Panahar Indian Restaurant in Tandridge

This restaurant has produced some good quality food in the past but the last 2 visits have been awful. It must be a different chef as all the dishes were different and of a poor quality and fairly tasteless. This was made even worse by tough chicken. There really is no excuse for tough stringy chicken given the prices they are charging. If they can't produce consistent quality it just results in a disappointing expensive meal. They've just hiked up all the prices not least the wine to silly levels. It just smacks of greed and will certainly deter us from going again.

First visit to this restaurant. Excellent meal, food was fantastic , extremely well presented, great service lovely staff. Very large round table which seated the 9 of us perfectly including a large power wheelchair. Will definitely be back.

Ordered a delivery, arrived promptly and it was really tasty and hot. Tried a few local curry restaurants and I’d rate this one 5 out of 5!

We visited Panahar last night and were glad we did, this is an old school proper establishment. The welcome and service we're exemplary. We had samosas and onion bhaji to start and they were a delight. Our mains were lamb bhuna and lamb jalfrezi with the king prawn rezalla on the side, these were all of a very high standard. If you like a curry please take my advice and visit Panahar you won't be sorry.

This us the most amazing Indian restaurant I have been to ever!!! The staff were so friendly, the restaurant so clean and amazing atmosphere ever. Food is out of this world, can't recommend it enough; if you haven' t tried it yet, you need to you won't be disappointed I can tell you. Thank you to all the staff you were so welcoming!!

This is the best food experience I’ve had in six months. Every week I go out for a sit down meal and it’s always mediocre at best. However last night at the Panahar the food was absolutely delicious. The Grandma’s curry had a little bit of extra spice and was perfect. The chana masala was the best I’ve had, all washed down with ice cold draught Cobra. That’s my curry house sorted for the foreseeable future. Keep it up chaps.

My first visit to the Panahar in 2 years and it won't be my last. Grandma's Curry was perfectly mild and crammed with flavour. My companion ordered the same but 'Madras' chilli heat. And again, he loved the dish. Perfect pulau rice, lovely chick pea Masala and light dry Paratha bread. Keep up the good work.

Great curry, friendly staff and attentive service, reasonably priced and an enjoyably old school dining experience. Well placed on the main road with free parking nearby.

This is not the first time my family and I have visited and, as always, the service here has been superb. Staff are quick to help and the food is never slow to come out. The servers have a habit of making us feel welcome. I would definitely recommend the Panahar and can’t stress their generous service enough! Thank you.

We returned for a second visit hoping it was as good as the first visit...... It was. We had gorgeous food, so much to choose from. We had a house white which was delicious and excellent value at £16 for a bottle and 5 dishes plus a great pershawi naan which was fresh, homemade and perfect. Also had poppadoms and dips . It came to a reasonable £51.00 with the wine and we had lots of food x I recommend this wonderful restaurant. The staff are very professional and welcoming. Thankyou to all the staff for looking after us so well.

We visited here as a family and as always, were so impressed with the food and the service. The choice of dishes is so extensive and the food is just fabulous. This is easily our favourite Indian and we don’t even live close by! The service is spot on - every effort is made to ensure you have a great dining experience. Thank you to the team - we will be back again soon!

Went here after not been for a while Won’t be back till I can remortgage the house ! £70 for two ! For a curry ! Wow ! And we didn’t go overboard with expensive drinks The whole place is overpriced and when people start feeling the pinch with excessive energy bills they won’t be spending this sort of money on a curry No denying it’s a good curry And we like to treat ourselves to a nice takeaway But not at these prices Hope you last the recession !

We've been eating at the Panahar since they opened and is our asian restaurant of choice both for eating in and takeaway. Very pleasant, friendly staff. Large choice on the menu. Prices have gone up by about £1 per main course since the pandemic and having been forced to close for a while, then reduce tables for more space, I don't mind paying a pound or two extra to help them get back on their feet. They also host regular charity events and deserve better than 4 stars as far as I'm concerned. The only minor criticism if you want to be critical, is that the place is very popular and on a friday or saturday at peak times, be prepared for a bit of a wait as the kitchen is small for the seating area and with the addition of a very popular take-away service, your evening there could be longer than usual, but with a pint and some good company, what's the rush?

I used to come here regularly but for some reason not been for 9 years. Suggested it for a friend's birthday so 8 of us went. Reservation had been lost but they still had room for us. Service was efficient and friendly. Food is great quality and good portions. There are other places nearby of similar quality that are cheaper but I can still recommend overall

I'm annoyed, it's taken my order and my money, ..it says online your open for collection, and yet. You are not open.. Now I have the hassell of getting a refund. If your not open then say and don't take the payment.

I have been to the Panahar many times with friends. Enjoyed the food and service. However for the first time since lockdown we had a takeaway. I ordered a king prawn masala and a king prawn delight. I drove back home (6 miles away) opened up the cartons which had the proper dishes written in felt tip on the lids. Dished out the food on plates and then started eating, only to find that my king prawn masala was chicken masala and my wifes king prawn delight was lamb! Now I can understand one error but not two. I phoned the restaurant and spoke to Khan. I told him of the error but that I didn’t want to drive all the way there and back and that we had started eating the food and would continue to eat it as we were hungry. I heard him speaking Bangladeshi to what he said was the chef, who insisted it was king prawn. Khan said he would give us a discount next time we ordered food there. However King Prawns are much more costly that chicken or lamb and so I feel much more than a discount is due. Any way I feel they didn’t have any king prawns and so decided to cut the meats in prawn shapes to get more profit and sales. Or maybe it was a mistake. Either way I wanted to write this review so that you check your food is what it says it is on the lid and that if this is a common practice for this restaurant and others report the same experience then their dishonesty will be exposed.

We ordered a takeaway a couple of weeks ago to be delivered ,at around 7pm were told it would be 1 hour 30 mins wait,it got to 2 hours called them,said it was coming,eventually arrived at 940pm ,and order was part missing and wrong dishes,called to complain and was told they are busy,come on isn't it good to be busy now.got to improve if I'm going to use again.

I have been eating here for around 2/3 years, normally it’s OK I haven’t had a curry since the lock down and thought I would order a takeaway and got my usual chicken curry and chicken tikka masala with Bombay aloo! The food had 0 flavour, the potato’s where slimy with no sauce. I even called to see if they had changed the chef!! Unfortunately will not be going here again. I really do not recommend

I have been to the Panahar a few times over the last 3 years and despite the fact its decor could do with a little refresh, you can't argue with the quality of service or food. Consistently lovely curry, attentive staff and very clean. I must add social distancing measures are in place and staff were all wearing PPE.

Our food was very good, service was great (not being rushed or kept waiting between courses), tables were distanced and all the staff were wearing masks etc couldn’t fault the evening- fist meal out for 6 months.

Visited as part of the eat out to help out, Food was lovely as usual, despite feeling undervalued and extremely hot within the dining area, Air con not on, when challenged was advised they’re not allowed to.....why? When other restaurants attended do .......no air movement made us all feeling uncomfortable and couldn’t wait to eat up and get out despite food tasting great. Regular diners here throughout the year and after tonight’s experience this may change.Bare this in mind if weather temps remain hot hot hot.....

My wife and I have been coming to the panahar for the last 7-8 years, it has never let us down to the point we will not touch another Indian food restaurant for the fear of it not living up to the panahar, great food, great service, great crowd, what more could you ask for?

Came here for the first time in a big group on a busy Saturday night.The food did take a while but that is what is expected on a busy Saturday night.The food however was brilliant! Popadoms with dips as usual. I opted for the garlic mushrooms to start with which was nice.The main of ‘Garlic Chicken’ along with mushroom rice was a good portion size and tasted great.Not too bad for price either considering the quality.

Great Sunday buffet, lovely service and relaxing atmosphere. No rushing for you to leave. Will be coming back again!

Always good to see a busy restaurant unfortunately this one could not cope with it. We waited over half an hour just for a drink and then an hour to order and another hour before we were served our food. Usually curries are served and the portions are generous but my chicken tikka looked like I didn’t even get a whole chicken breast! It was tasty though. As we were with friends we had plenty to chat about and this made the waiting bearable. I wouldn’t go there again.

Great value and a good selection of food. Would definitely recommend for a cheap Sunday lunch time. Service is good and they managed to fit us in without a booking.

Visited here Sunday just gone for the Sunday buffet which I had never tried, eaten here many times but not the buffet. Was very impressed - a good selection of dishes including lamb ones which a lot of buffets don't offer, there was also a good vegetarian selection which my girlfriend appreciated. All the food was hot, fresh and topped up regularly. For the price charged was a very good meal out, one I wouldn't hesitate to recommend

We enjoyed our meal at the Panahar Indian Restaurant. The curries we had were very tasty and the service was excellent.

Great food, acceptable waiting time between courses (even asked between starter and main if they could serve main) but spoiled by over zealous waiter trying to clear our table whilst one of our friends was still eating then when we asked for the bill couldn’t seem to wait to get us out the door. Good food, acceptable price but let down by the last 15 mins of the meal, we will go back but ask for a different waiter.

Great service. Restaurant amazing decor fantastic toilets. But the food was quite bland not a lot of taste. We waited a long time for the bill.

We have been coming here for many years but never again! The starters were average and the wait for mains was far to long. We asked the waiter when the main was coming and he was rude. We paid the bill in full for food we never had and left. Will not return. They do not care about their customers!!

Food inconsistent sad as we have had some good meals here but not on this night it appeared that the lamb shank had been defrosted and barely edible. The restaurant was also very cold . The staff new we were disappointed but continued regardless we have not been back, but will give it another visit.

3rd time in 2019 - 1st time we were 7 persons and although the food was good the table and the service was not, however, the next 2 visits the food and the service was good, so will visit again - I would have ordered again but they do not do a delivery service and we like to have deliveries.

I had a booking there for the evening. I left my phone there after making the booking and called within 10 mins to get it back. Turns out that one of the waiters decided to see this as an opportunity to keep it to sell. I ended up getting him arrested. On previous visits the food was average so even if this didn't happen I wouldn't have gone back there.

Came here today for lunch with my family and we had the buffet. The food and service were faultless we will definitely be back. The Sunday buffet is very good with a wide range of dishes on offer. Would highly recommend this.

Just turned up on a busy Saturday night but managed to find us a table for 2. Plenty of staff who were friendly and helpful. Food was great. Looking forward to going back.

I have visited this restaurant many times so most of the staff know me and always make me welcome. It’s a great place to bring family and friends. Weekends and some evenings it can be very busy but on the occasional lunch time i have visited it was pretty empty (sometimes too busy weekend evenings). I really enjoy the lamb Xacuti dish (rich spicy lamb served on a whole red pepper) and often have a Sylet Saag (hot dish with spinach, peas and chillies )They have great value house wine and serve both draft and bottled beer. We usually have a take away at least once a fortnight and the food is consistently good.

My son chose this restaurant for dinner, I prefer Bollywood in Caterham and I still do!!! It’s old fashioned here, the staff try to be attentive but are slow, and on 3 occasions had to remind them for a fresh glass, drinks etc. The food was ok, I was boring and had a korma, so at £8.99 I thought it was going to be impressive - it wasnt, it was small and was a 5/10. The other curry’s were only alright. And my son ordered a lamb tikka masala, but they brought him just a tikka, no sauce, when asked about it, they did apologise but we all food by then, so after 5 minutes brought him a pot of sauce! Not the same as your lamb marinating in it, so big disappoint. When asked at paying the bill for the lamb tikka which wasn’t eaten, they argued with me!!! £150 for 5 curry and rices, 2 starters, and soft drinks is completely overpriced and I’m gutted I went there. Stick with Bollywood in Caterham valley, wed nite £12.95 3 courses and all fresh, colourful and tasty!!!

Excellent choice and excellent food. Never too busy even on a Saturday. Seems to cater to a more mature diner. The waiters are attentive, but not in your face. I choose to try something different and had the Lamb Lallia - gosh was that hot!! - there was a warning on the menu so it is my fault. My wife had her favourite which is tame Lamb Dansak and that was wonderful.

Wonderful food, super service and a lovely, clean environment. I must say thank you to the chef who made us a special dish that was not on the menu; it exceeded our expectations! The service was great too and we will definitely return plus have a takeaway or 10 :-) Thank you. Highly recommended!!

My wife and I have been here many times. The food is consistently reliable. The owner is nearly there every evening and makes sure his staff are up to scratch! They also offer a number of set menus which are great value-for-money. This is one of the last if not the last Indian restaurant in the London Borough of Croydon (as you drive south along the B269) which is why they invite the current Mayor of Croydon to visit each year, hence the photos in the entrance lobby (including one of my father)!! A popular place which has been in business for years.

Went to the restaurant for sunday buffet. We go often as we enjoy the food. It was excellent as usual. Unfortunately one of my sons was not feeling well and had barely touched any of the food (over indulged the night before). The restaurant very kindly didn't charge for him and we just paid for 2 buffets and drinks. Excellent customer service.

The food here is really good quality and a very varied menu for main courses, desserts and wine and beer. Attentive service which makes one keen to come back another time.

I know everyone says their local is the best, but this place really is fantastic. My family have been eating in and getting takeaways from here for 15 years and we’ve never had a bad meal. The staff are friendly and the service is always excellent. The menu is huge and varied, and the food has always been great. Highly recommended!

Sunday Buffet usually £9.95, whilst most places 'Dads' eat free or theres a nice special on. Here they put the price up to £13.95 for the Buffett as it was fathers day, and they didnt even bother to advertise or tell customers that because its fathers day the price is more - you are just presented with a bill with no explanation.

My daughter booked a table for 7 of us over a week a week ago but on arrival it took almost 10 mins an 3 members of staff to find us on their books.

I am sorry to say that I held this Indian restaurant in high regards. But since Christmas the quality of the food and service has been well below par. I would order over the telephone and each time it would be incorrect. So I though I would order in person. Well that has been wrong on several occasions. So over this weekend I could not keep quite anymore. The food list I said was incorrect and fairly cold considering I picked it up. I will not use it again until I hear that it has changed.

We visited the panahar with my family for a big get together. We needed a good restaurant that has good food and good atmosphere. A lot of people have recommended the panahar to us and we only heard good reviews about them, so we decided to go with the panahar as this was a big event for us and we wanted this to be perfect for the family. The food was absolutely delicious and the staff were very friendly and very helpful. I recommend the panahar for any event as they can accommodate for your needs. I personally got the chicken tikka masala curry, and I can honestly say that was the best curry Ive ever had. I definitely will be coming here more often!!

Just visited my daughter wanted a takeaway ordered 1hour later got the food when we complained about the length of time it was taking got very rudely it takes 30--40minutes everybody knows that as it was first time how we know will never ever go again

Been going here for years for sit down meals, Sunday buffets and take aways. We get on well with the staff and I hate to do this but over the last few months something has gone very, very wrong. There seem to be a lot of new staff and I haven't seen the owner and manager for a while, maybe that's the problem?

Valentines day, the restaurant was not very busy, but we had to wait a very long time for our food.

Panahar was highly recommended to us, so we had no hesitation making a booking. We were told that we could only have the table for an hour and a half maximum, which wasn't a problem. If we'd wanted to take our time, we would have gone elsewhere.

I attended this restaurant with my girlfriends family for her sisters birthday. It was probably the worst service I have ever had hands down. We dine out usually once a week and I run the biggest wedding and private events company in the south east. Whilst we were told they were short 2 staff in the kitchen after an hour of waiting to order, this does not excuse the poor drinks and condiments service. If we hadn’t been served popadums and eventually our first round of drinks, we would of left. At one point I waited another 45mins for a beer even though I chased 3 different waiters. When we finally received our food after 2 hours, 3 of the mains were simply not what we ordered, which we proved on the menu after the waiter disagreed with us. One couple next to us complained before us even though arriving after us and got their food before us. Once most of us had finished they cleared our table barley before I was finished. Finally when we did get the bill they did offer us a drink. Too little too late. We asked for the few drinks we had to be removed from the bill (raw costs £9) of over £130 to which they argued. Whilst I agree, we had the drinks, but the service was terrible that night, personally I would if offered free drinks to my clients whilst they were waiting. Simple customer service. We weren’t the only people upset in the restaurant either that night

Hadn’t been to the Panahar for a while and went back with a business group for a small meeting before dining. The waiters allowed us plenty of time to discuss matters before we finally dined and kept us supplied with drinks and starters/nibbles.

I have been to this restaurant many many times in the past eating in and ordering and collecting for a takeaway, but for the last year or more it is not quite how it used to be, the worst being the takeaway. The food portions...

Best curry in area. Always great but always busy. Must book most nights and be prepared to wait a little longer for take aways as food is always cooked well and fresh.

Had an enjoyable evening with friends. Great choice of food. My choice was the lamb shank marinade with keema rice and nan bread. My husband had a spicy chicken dish. The lamb was beautifully cooked and literally fell off the bone. My only request would be that the food served, was hotter. The good food made for a good evening. Parking was a little tight but was able to park at the end of the next road. Would recommend it.

An excellent Indian restaurant - They many of the typical Indian dishes, but the quality is fantastic.

Today I visited my local Indian takeaway which myself and my family regularly use to collect our curry. This time it was awful. I ordered my usual and went to collect.

Went with a friend - but it was part leisure and part business. Friend is a regular but I arrived early and was treated in a friendly manner even before they knew who I was with.

Had a lovely dinner at the Panahar last night with three of my friends. Food was lovely and all the staff were great. However at the end, a waiter became a bit nasty and rude towards us after my friend forgot her pin number and asked to change cards. It really left us upset and shocked since he had been nice to us the whole evening. The main waiter apologised to us but it kind of ruined the night, such a shameThe rest of the staff were lovely, as was the food but will not be coming here again

Have been many times but not for a while. Still good atmosphere but made wrong menu choice - went for the chef recommended chicken dish - was very dry and lacked flavour. Did mention it at the time. Otherwise it was ok - not the best experience we have had there and has put us off a little when there are other options available in walking distance.Not sure - maybe just unlucky on the night.

My wife and I have dined here several times and we have not .been disappointed. Large restaurant with capacity for circa 200 dining at any one time.

The restaurant is well set out and has a few round tables that are good for larger parties. The service can be a little slow occasionally but o9n the whole is good. The food is first rate with a number of different dishes available. The two versions of Lamb Shank are both excellent. The prices are a little on the high side but the meals are worth it.

We are regular visitors to the Panahar and the restaurant never disappoints. The quality of the food is always excellent and the service very good. The restaurant is large and air conditioned. I strongly recommend you try it out, you won't be disappointed.

Always have a lovely sunday buffet here. They do the best Chicken Korma, Chicken Tikka Masala, onion bahjees and sag aloo. Excellent value for money, spotlessly clean and the staff and very friendly and helpful.

The food was good but did take over an hour and half to arrive, even tho we had pre booked a table. However we did get a free round of drinks for good will.

The food at the Panahar is a step away from anything else - better than the average curry house by far, yet offering far greater value for money and choice than local 'fine dining' Indian restaurants. The prices have hardly changed in ten years and the staff are always courteous and friendly.

Always a very nice meal with authentic Indian food and a comprehensive menu. The staff are attentive but occasionally slow service which is great if you are not in a rush

After driving past this place 100's of times I have just eaten there for the first time. Don't be put off by the location because once inside its a lively, big, classy indian restaurant. We went on a Saturday night with friends and it was pretty busy but the service was good, food excellant and prices pretty reasonable. My new favourite Indian restaurant.

Staff were very friendly and chatty and made us feel very welcome. The bill was reasonable, less than expected. Will definitely return and will be recommending it.

We haven't been to the Panahar for years, but went back there last night with friends and had a great evening, The food was excellent and we thought it was reasonably priced. We didn't have starters or desserts so this obviously kept the price down. The restaurant was full and although it took a while for our food to arrive it didnt matter at all as we were happy chatting. The staff were very friendly and accommodating without being over attentive.Will defiantly be going back again soon and wouldnt hesitate to recommend the restaurant.

This was our first time at this restaurant and we have to admit as caterers ourselves that this is Indian food at its best,great food and service without being overpowering .Would recommend this place to anyone

We went as a group of men for a farewell dinner. A little noisy but the staff were very patient. Service was very good as was the food.

we often go here to have variouse typres of meals and the buffet too always welcoming and always acomedating us be it with the family or friends and wven just the two of us the place has lots of space which helps also nice and quite a place to enjoy loverly indian cusine cooked how ever you like and will be visiting them this weekend with my parents . were from Burma and my mums and excellant cook and if she says this good they it says it all as mums know best .

best curry house around, take away is very generous portions, always get the order right and very friendly. Eating in great relaxed experience, attention to detail with the food and a good night out. Always packed so you need to book.

My husband and I met friends at this restaurant last night . We were greeted by the restaurant owner who was very attentive all night . However the food was average and as we found out when the bill arrived extremely over priced . The decor was pleasant although tired and dated with the carpets looking stained and worn . I am afraid to say the toilets were also extremely tired and needing replacing and also smelled unpleasant . Service although the restaurant was busy was slow. Staff however were lovely and attentive . Lovely lady waitress also .

We like trying new Indian Restaurants, even though I've found a brilliant one last week. We noticed the waiters greeted and treated regular customers really well, but because it was our first time we were basically ignored. the food itself was nothing special. I wouldn't bother going back.

Average , basic and functional. But reasonable food and variety...as a local,provider of curries, sunfpday buffett is good value .

I know everyone thinks their local is the best, but Panahar really is! Great service and friendly staff when you eat in, and the food is still excellent quality as a take away. I'd suggest booking for a Saturday night as it gets pretty busy. Couldn't recommend more!

Visited on a Sunday evening and a few people in, we were sat at the back of the restaurant which is quite dark. Service very fast, food very nice.

Came here on a busy Saturday night. The food was delicious (standard Indian fare done well) and the waiters attentive and friendly. Only thing I can fault them on is that their card machine wasn't working properly so I had to go out across the road to get cash to pay my bill. They were very apologetic and even offered us a drink on the house for the inconvenience but was a tad annoying.

20 minutes wait in restaurant after the wait time. Food very good!
