Ossies Fish & Chips in Dover

Have used Ossies since we moved to Sandwich 6 months ago occassionaly for the odd bag of chops sometimes for fish or sausage and every time is perfect portion size is huge and chips always perfect. The friendliest bunch of people you could wish for Left a paintbrush I'd bought on the counter by mistake and they made sure I got it back a week later. You won't find a better place

Had to wait awhile for the chips to cook no rushing like I've seen at other places well worth the wait though excellent

I visited on Saturday and asked for a small and large cod and chips,was blown away with the size of the cod,small was about8 inches,then they said how's this for a large one,I went to the car to eat it I unwrapped it and it was bigger than the diameter of my steering wheel,I measured steering wheel when I got home,the fish must have been 16inches by 4 inches,with a crispy batter,and plenty of chips.it was one of the best fish and chips in kent I have tasted

We went in by chance got Cod & chips WOW! I haven’t had a bit of Cod that good for a very long time Brilliantly cooked I couldn’t eat it all had to save half for later Yes we will make the trip again 50+miles round trip but was worth it and a good price and Sandwich is a interesting place to visit

Now if there is one sure way of battling the rising sea level crisis, it’s getting yourself down Ossies Fish and chips for one of these absolute WHOPPERS! When this megladon cod was caught they say that sea level worldwide dropped by 3cm!   I can assure you that there is no camera trickery here and the man stood before you wielding Jaws the 2nd is fully grown and is at least 4ft 6” sources say. When whispers of legendary cod of such size made their way to the town of Sandwich there was only one man the townsfolk knew they could count upon to brave the sea’s alone and make the monstrous catch! ..After several phone calls to Jason Statham proved to be unsuccessful, we popped in to Ossies to see Boyd and pitched the monumental task.   “yes mate, no worries”, was his response to the dangerous voyage, like it was nothing more than tying a shoelace! When offered state of the art equipment and the finest of trawlers, he declined rolling up his sleeves and clenching his fists. “Be alright, I’ll just bosh it on the head mate” and away he went.  Three long days and nights passed and tensions in the guild hall square were high as crowds gathered. Fearing the worst people began lighting candles which were quickly banned by the council for showing up the Christmas light switch on. It was in that precise moment when morale was low that one light shone through causing people to gasp in disbelief! One by one the people turned around to see Boyd and the Christmas elves firing up the fryers through Ossies window!  And there he was – safe, sound, and slapping batter on the biggest bit of cod you ever did see!   It turns out nights one and two Boyd was at home catching up on Emmerdale farm and he only popped out to sea for 20 minutes on the third night. What a man!  Dec 2023 – Boyd & the Ossies team made the Sandwich book of records with this absolute beast of cod weighing in at more than 30 Oz’s. True dedication to the cause and hats off to the bunch of legends who bend over backwards to feed the local community at all costs! 

I love Ossie's fish and chips, they are the best I have tasted in a long time. Last night I went and although I didn't order it myself, I saw a man ordering what looked like a whale and chips, it was absolutely massive. (21inches long), fantastic looking meal, but I think it would be to share.......

Came here last night and had an amazing experience the lads there were very friendly and the food was fantastic, I got a large cod with chips, I think I should have gone with the small though the portion was amazing it’s nice to go somewhere and get a true large the fish was cooked beautifully, my son went for a burger and he said it was the best burger he’s ever had!!, so that’s FISH amazing , CHIPS amazing and BURGER amazing but the lads there were what really made the experience it’s nice to see good customer service, I heard one of the young men talking about football with another customer and the older gent who was cooking interacting with myself it’s nice to go somewhere and have a little chat and the staff not be gormless would recommend to anyone passing through sandwich

Not impressed. Went on a dull Thursday afternoon in December. It was raining. The ghost-like figures of Sandwich's somewhat older population huddled in shops for solace and warmth. A crow cawed ominously. I asked for 'two small chips'. I was offered two, small, chips. I commented they were medium sized. The rain somehow intensified. The market sq fell silent. I was handed two huge portions of 'freshly cooked' chips. Yay! Except only the top chips were fresh, succulent, yummy. The bottom 2/3 of the packet were vile & stale. I had such high hopes. Sigh.

My mum always insists of travelling 20 miles to Sandwich to get Ossies fish and chips! Friendly staff, really good food and decent portions. Never had any complaints from here, always come and will always go to this place. Highly recommended!!!

Every time I’ve come here I’ve enjoyed my meal and never had any complaints. Cheesy chips GORGEOUS, standard chips GORGEOUS, curry sauce PERFECT, cod, saveloy, battered sausage, pie all absolutely DELICIOUS. Have never thought of reviewing a fish and chip shop but this one is certainly worth it! Proper British cuisine served with pride in a proper British way. I’ve never sounded so patriotic 😂 but this is worth travelling towns for.

Had an impromptu afternoon in Sandwich and shared a portion of fish and chips. They were delicious and freshly cooked whilst we waited. The cod was huge and not at all greasy. The chips were perfectly cooked and tasty, no little sharp pointy chips in sight. Highly recommended and great value.

Used to go to another fish and chip shop in town but then tried Ossies. The best ever food and always a smile to go with it. Highly recommended.

I just wanted some cod and chips for lunch when visiting Sandwich and came across this chippie and what a find it was. The fish and chips were cooked to order so there was a short wait but well worth it to have freshly cooked fish. The staff were very polite and efficient and all looked smart in their 'ossie' brand polo shirts. At £9.40 for a medium cod and chips this represented excellent value. I will definitely visit again if I'm in the area.

Popped in for takeaway cod and chips. The fish was cooked to order so there was a short wait but we'll worth it as you can't beat freshly cooked fish. All the team behind the counter were friendly and all wearing smart Ossie brand polo shirts. There is nothing to dislike about this fish and chip shop. Will definitely visit again if I'm in the area. As a sideline they also serve ice cream so catering for two different markets.

Can see why Ossies has a good rating. Guys behind counter got good banter, fish & chips are great, and Sandwich is a really nice place. Bear in mind, the large cod & chips is huge, my wife and I were definitely full after finishing it!

We came in for cod and chips and it was absolutely delicious, the chef recommended us a 12 inch sausage which did not disappoint. Very clean and staff were very friendly and welcoming!!! I will defiantly be recommending my friends to come here!

I purchased a battered sausage from here. It was so thick with batter it looked like an American corn dog. Honestly the worst thing I’ve seen, doesn’t even look like a battered sausage. I actually dropped it by mistake but I think that’s the best thing that could have happened to it…. Definitely belongs in the bin 🤮

Went for fish and chip take out for myself and my sister.I asked for 2 small haddock and chips got served lge portions.INEDIBLE batter was drenched in fat fish was awful didn't taste of haddock, threw it all away.

Very slow service. Chips were one big lump , the sausage had no colour or flavour. scampi was full of water. It went straight in the bin. Very disappointing .

Small place in the center of Sandwich where you can eat excellent Fish & Chips. Possibility to sit outside too. You can choose from some varieties of fish, in addition to the usual cod. The fried onion rings are decent, the chips are really excellent. Very generous portions: we took the small one and two of us ate it!

Great little chippy. We were camping nearby and have stopped in here past couple of years when in Sandwich. Fish was lovely and not greasy and everything was fresh and hot. Decent size portions too and didn't feel over priced, will be back again next year! Staff were excellent too, stopping and chatting with my son about Dragon Ball Z and Pokémon while we were waiting as he had a character t-shirt in. Cheers guys, great dinner.

This was a great little place we found whilst on our travels out to sandwich. Friendly staff with cheap prices and a quick service. They accept both cash and card payments. And have inside and outside tables. The food was presented quickly and was nice and warm. I Would use again.

Great little Fish and Chip shop and restaurant in the centre of Sandwich. Really enjoyed the freshly cooked fish and chips and cups of tea. A very friendly greeting and attentive service given by all the staff was really nice. A good price and good choice of other food and drinks. Very clean and tidy with a good view with lots of natural light coming through the window with a nice nautical decor. Lots of shops nearby by to visit and a short walk from the restaurant will have you down by the quayside for a pleasant stroll by the river. The main car park is also very close by with toilet facilities, all easy to get to and around.

The food is very good and plentiful. We liked it very much.

Ossies is a good chippy. Cod,chips & mushy peas served piping hot, excellent quality; light batter, clean taste. Happy atmosphere and bright efficient staff. Basic but bright clean dining room. Price is very competitive, and a complimentary cuppa thrown in. A little gem of a place.

Great place to eat Fish & Chips. There are a few tables to sit at. The fish was good. Don't hesitate to ask about the portions, because they are generous whether for adults or children, and the advice was sound. I also recommend the extra curie sauce for the fries.

A must for sandwiches and delicious fish and chips. The service is fast but not very cheerful 🙂 Impossible not to try traditional English fish and chips For small appetites take a large portion for two if it is to take away. There is a room behind but you will probably be a little fragrant from the frying. Haddock or plaice or cod you have the choice of fish. The fries are good and that's pretty rare. It's very clean, very well made and really good with vinegar of course! I highly recommend.

27/12/2022. 1st time we've used this fish shop. They were delicious. Fish nice and white and fresh. On a par with Papas on the Quayside.

We sat in they have a small restaurant. Sadly very poor service lots behind the fish counter but no one could come to the table to take an order. The food was good very fresh and well cooked OAP portion rather large would go for a child's portion if I were to return
