Castle Fish Bar in Dover

Went here because our usual chippy was closed. We had large cod, cod roe, chips and curry sauce. Everything was cooked really well and our plates were empty at the end. Friendly service and clean and tidy shop. Cannot recommend it enough - we’ll be back.

Ordered haddock and chips both very greasy batter soft and soggy on fish. Went to shop as it had good ratings hope it was a one off bad experience but would not use shop again

Really efficient service, friendly staff and a great selection on the menu. The chips were fab and the fish had lovely crispy batter that was fresh and tasty. Best fish and chips I've had in a long time.

My wife has the chicken burger and chips and i had battered sausage and chips. We went just as they opened at 12.The food was lovely and hot, chips were crisp but not frazzled. My wife said it's the best chickenburger she's had. The battered sausage was tasty.The staff here are friendly and they take card payments.10/10 from us. We always get a good meal here.

We don’t get fish and chips very often, I have to have chicken as not many places do gluten-free, and always dubious as I am a coeliac, but my half a chicken was fantastic, not dry at all and my chips yummy, my husband enjoyed his cod! Not to much batter, very friendly great service, after a disappointing trip to Folkestone for a COVID jab that never happened, queue far to long, couldn’t stand that long, but lovely food for the end of a disappointed evening, will definitely use again.

Very clean shop and very friendly guys served us all an amazing cod and chips ! The best we had for a while ! And they also made chips more crispier as we asked and also recommended us a nice location on the beach to eat it all! Guys thank you!

The shop is always spotlessly clean. Staff are friendly, Michelle serving and John frying.I have tried scampi, haddock, cod, cheese burgers, battered sausages, pies and of course chips. Food always great. I think that this is the best fish & chip shop in Deal with out a doubt. Very organised for phone orders during the coronavirus pandemic.

I always order Haddock and chips because it is always excellent. The fish is fresh, and the chips aren't greasy. I'll have to try some other items from the menu, but I think the fish will be hard to beat. Well recommended.

Visiting the area and had urgent need for fish and chips after a long day and found this place on tripadvisor.Seemed popular and busy on a friday night. The Fish in batter was good and the best part of the meal, chips were ok (slightly undercooked) but the battered sausages left a lot to be desired, the main point of which was that they weren't hot, in fact almost cold, slightly soggy and stale. Maybe they need to improve how/where they store them once cooked.

Great to see this fab chippy open and strictly adhering to social distancing. As always excellent fish & chips. I love the haddock and COD is skinless! :)

Without doubt the best fish and chips in Walmer and deal I’ve tried them all , the fish is always lovely and fresh the chips also the saveloys are cooked properly not sitting in water so they snap how a saveloy should .

Went in with friends. The food was delicious. It was freshly cooked tasty and piping hot. I can easily say the best fish and chips i have ever had. The portions were huge and reasonable prices.The service was excellent. Very kind, helpful and joyful staff. Premises and the kitchen area was very clean too. Highly recommend. Make time to go there, you definitely will not regret it.

After seeing a small portion of chips for £1.80, I felt there were too many. I ordered a childs portion of cod and chips which cost me £4.90. It seemed to me that there were lots more chips than fish and it was not a good deal. I wont go there again.

The temperature, condition and flavour of the suppers were superb and our many French guests were delighted by the experience.

Have tried a lot of fish and chips in my time and these are really good. Crisp, non-greasy batter and a sensible size piece of fish. Good, fresh chips, decent mushy peas and good curry sauce. And it was served up quickly on the two occasions that we went.Quick and friendly service.

Castle Fish and Chips is excellent, good quality food served from a spotless kitchen. They are happy to adapt and cook fresh and we have never had anything that was not superb from there.John and Michelle are great friendly and funny they will always help and happy to help however much they may pretend to moan. The only problem you have coming here is that everywhere you go afterwards will not seem as good.

Forget the Chicken Shop make a programme on this chippy! There's more entertainment at this counter than the Winter Gardens at Margate with Walmers own Morecambe and Wise. Great gags, great life advice and they can cook too! Cleanliness of the establishment is second to none and food of the highest standard. English and Turkish Cypriot owners with a passion to deliver a great service!

Please, if you have to wait - be patient. Everything comes up fresh. Yes a 'Takeaway' but, staff are pleasant and the quality of the food is excellent. Living fairly locally, they have been very handy when a quick meal is required and visitors arrive at very short notice too; the prices as well as quantity and quality would be very hard to match elsewhere.

This is a fantastic fish & chip shop, cod & chips every week for the last month everything has been spotted on, my wife recommends the cheese burgers & chicken , very friendly staff that remember me after my first visit, many thanks see you soon from Chris.

I usually wait for other customers to be there before I buy my fish and chips at Castle fish bar as just hoping the fish and chips are freshly cooked piping hot. But oh no. Chips hanging around warm. And greasy hanging around fish. They seem to discriminate who they are going to cook fresh for and who they are going give the hanging around fish and chips to. The time before I went on a Monday evening only to be give a fish unsold from the Saturday. Last time i go there, its their loss. Not like the fish and chip shop on the seafront in town renowned famous always full, because they cook the stuff fresh for each customer. Its call respect. Do not under estimate your customer. They have the choice and they will make it.

Pros: Friendly service, good sized portions, fairly short waiting time, reasonable price, chips were decent but not outstanding.Cons: batter wasn't that flavoursome and was quite soggy, cod was a bit overcooked.Would lean towards a 3.5, possibly would eat here again if I was craving it, but I wouldn't go out of my way.

We often use Castle Fish Bar. The food is always excellent. Really good portions, better than any others around. Prices good. Staff and owner are so friendly, always have a chat and a laugh. Wouldn't go anywhere else.

I was delighted when I found we had hippie opening in Upper Walmer village and used it quite a few times, but qui 'll noticed that the fish portions were getting smaller and the chips soggyer, so only went there at lunch times for a Spam Critters r in a roll, reminds my of my youth, but which is very good.

We were staying in a caravan in Walmer Deal, and decided we wanted to have some fish and chips as there was a chippy nearby, (no l don't always eat fish and chips even if my reviews have had a few in them lol) we went and bought two cad and chips and went back to the caravan to eat them and relax, well they were awful, they looked like they had been double cooked, and were too greasy to eat, l phone the chip shop and told him, he was most apologetic and could not say sorry enough, told us to bring them back and he would do some more for us, but we declined his offer, saying maybe another time, he said okay anytime, about 4 months later we were again in the caravan and my husband went to the chip shop and ordered two cod and chips, not mentioning that we were being given a replacement from last time, so he did not cook them up specially for us to impress, when he handed the fish and chips over my husband reminded him of the previous fish and chips and he said no problem have them on the house and hope you enjoy them, well l must say they were really lovely, fish was white and fresh and tasty, the chips were just right and real potatoes, always a plus with us, and the batter was light and golden and crispy, it all tasted a treat and went down really well, with a beer, so well done john in Castle Fish Bar, we will visit you again, thank you

This is our local fish and chip shop and it consistently delivers good quality fish and chips.There is a good variety of fish available (if you are happy to wait for it to be cooked or can pre-order), including skate which is sadly rare to find these days. Portions very large so consider ordering one bag of chips to go with a number of mains.Fresh clean and good value.

Fabulous fish and chips! Large portions at reasonable prices and swift service. Plenty of choice on the take away menu. We were not disappointed.

First visit for a takeaway for family lunch. Service was efficient and very friendly. Fish & chips were quite simply what fish & chips should be. Am considering moving to Walmer for the Castle Fish Bar alone. Our 4 year old even went quiet while eating! Thank you.James

I've been here several times over the past two months whilst staying in the area, it is consistently fantastic! As a regular trip advisor reviewer I'm hard to please as I expect great food and service and this place exceeds my expectations every time!

Nicely cooked cod and chips every time I visit. Occasionally, I'm given two small cod instead of one large if they've run out of large - the only problem is fitting it on my dinner plate and then trying to eat it all! Nice friendly banter with each other and customers which relieves waiting time for the cooking process. Clean. Would recommend.

I first visited a couple of weeks ago and had haddock and chips. The fish was skinless which I thought was great, and the batter was crispy and tasty. It wasn't the chunkier fish in the world but I'd rather have the great flavour of this chippy's finest than a chunky piece of haddock complete with skin and greasy batter. Chips were excellent and I'm so glad I came back. Looking forward to my third visit!

The Castle has a well deserved reputation, and is very handy if relaxing on Walmer Green. However, it is one of the best fish & chip shops in the area. and worth driving into the town, but street parking is difficult, filled with day visitors to the beach.

Freshly cooked Fish and Chips you may have to wait for them but they are fresh while your waiting why not go next door to the new pub in walmer the freed man and have a pint while waiting for your chips you wont be dissapointed

Went there last night with my daughter and her friend for a teatime treat...and what a treat it was!I asked for 2 small cod and chips, but as he'd just cooked 2medium cod these were served at no extra charge...and they were HUGE! Fish was cooked to perfection, with a thin coating of crispy batter..and the chips were chunky and delicious. Hearing my daughter say she wanted to sit on the beach to eat them...and my protests at the cold...we were made welcome to sit in the shop to eat...he even provided a third fork and platter so that I could help myself to the inevitable left overs This isn't the first time I've eaten from this chippy, and I've tried most of them locally, but this is consistently the best by far, both for quality,freshness and value.

We visited on Saturday 16th jan. We love fish & chips and really felt this was the best we have had in a long time! We ordered large cod and large haddock both were excellent and skinless! The batter was beautiful! Not the chunkiest fish but lovely! Also the girl serving was excellent, great service and engaging with the customers.

This place is simply wonderful, every time. Fish and chips like you imagine it to should be, fresh and beautifully cooked.

Was the only fish and chips we could find in Dover whilst on hol,, cost £4.80 for medium fish and chips. Bit dissapoined with the batter, was very heavy and greasy but we were hungry so ate it all, chips were ok, to be honest I have had beter but also had worse. They seemed busy anyway and could park outside.

Popped in for Cod and Chips on a flying visit to the area, I had been back in December 2012 and remember the fish and chips being pretty near perfect. I was slightly disappointed this visit, although the Cod was freshly and well cooked, not greasy at all, the chips were average with some hard and undercooked and it was a small portion even for a small portion. The chippy is busy, has a great choice of food on the menu and the staff are friendly. Maybe I was just unlucky?

Fish had a light golden batter, tasted perfect. Staff friendly and inviting, nothing was too much trouble for them. Shop sited on a main road with limited parking, don't be put off park round the corner its worth it. Tried for the first time the onion vinegar on the chips GREAT, loved it. Recommend if you're in the area give them a try, I certainly will.

I'm not one for reviews but I was so impressed by my visit I have to. Fast customer service, very friendly and happy staff. Food was cooked fresh, piping hot and extremely well cooked. Best experience of any fish and chip shop. Definitely give it a visit.

Very impressed. Every time I've visited, , the food has been perfect - I usually have cod and chips and it's the tastiest cod I've ever eaten. The chips are nice and crisp, as well as soft and fluffy inside. Would recommend. The staff are friendly and efficient.

Was on holiday in the area & always like to sample a local chippy whilst near the seaside. Quite a simple review. Food was good, fresh, plentiful & reasonably priced. Staff were pleasant without being over-friendly!Menu was everything you'd expect from a decent chippy. No issues with any food sticking to the packaging on my visit.Happy to recommend a visit.

We travel there especially when we fancy traditional fish and chips. The portions are filling and the batter is exceptional! Lovely staff, always friendly....you have to try it!

This is a fab fish and chip shop no availbility to sit in but sit in your car in the layby or take them up to the cliff top - not the cheapest we have had but a standard portion of chips enough for two of us and the fish was super fresh - piping hot and friendly service, not too much pre cooked either ours was one of four portions that came out of the fryer at the same time. Super crisp batter

We tried this fish + chip shop for take away supper and was so good went back a second time in the week we had in this area on holiday. Plaice was freshly cooked and was thick white fish, delicious. Batter was golden + crispy. My daughters cod + chips again , white fish + great portion size. Chicken nuggets I am told were lovely too ! Very clean shop and polite service. Wish it was our local fish + chip shop !!

SO I really wanted to praise the food..first visit ..busy ,busy lunch time..worth the wait ..heavenly chips..crispy outside ,hot and fluffy in..Perfection..Then..forgoing other chippies of decent quality..Arrived in the evening with Mum..'Great chips' says IBut to grave disappointment..Re fried mess..stale and bland..some half cookednot good ..Not good at all..Now this is why I titled this review Loss of Trust..How can I further trust this Fryer fo. selling a much below product?...and more of concern..Which other products are wanting/A shame..and I looked foolish in front of my Mum.Go to other chippies on the front for consistent quality.

I've lived in Deal/Walmer for almost 30 years and therefore use many fish and chip shops in the locality. I'm delighted to recommend the Walmer Fish Bar. Can't fault the food and it's handy as it's on the way home from work.

Without the Best Fish & Chip shop in Deal highly RECCOMEND !!!! All food is cooked to perfection and the staff are very friendly.

Excellent fish and crispy chips. Alway goes down a treat whilst visiting the bandstand for car rallies, Marine Bands and Fetes and Fairs. No need to pack a picnic. Really good hot food
