We had afternoon tea today - 5 of us. Sandwiches were nearly all egg, some chicken and cucumber. Some were barely buttered. One scone each which was dry. Extremely poor for £39 per person. Cakes were ok. Probably the worst afternoon tea I’ve ever had though. Shame, we were celebrating a birthday. Perhaps it was just a bad day in the kitchen.

The restaurant setting and the views of the Surrey Hills are wonderful, however I had what was probably one of the worse meals I’ve eaten in a long time. I ordered fish and chips and asked for an alternative to peas as I can’t eat them. The fish texture was mushy (not nice and flaky, which it should be if fresh) . The fish batter was a spongy texture and undercooked, which at one point just made me gag. My mushy peas were replaced with peas and 2 small pieces of broccoli! We complained to the waiter and we were not charged for our teas and coffees. But I resent paying £30 for main course that was inedible and a small glass of wine. This was at lunchtime and only the bar menu was available. Maybe the meals are better in the evening

Husband and myself just celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary at the Nutfield Priory. It totally exceeded our expectations from checking in all the way to checking out. The room was spacious and comforable The food in the restaurant was amazing and a special mention to the Tunisian restaurant manager so friendly and knowledgeable about food and wine. All other staff were super friendly from bar to serving staff to reception. We had the most special time and spent a few good hours chilling at the Spa. Thank you for making our time there special.

Spontaneous decision to go for afternoon tea with a friend. Brilliant decision on our part! From the moment we walked through the front door, all the staff were helpful and attentive.we were taken to no our table that was set up for us to have the maximum view of the beautiful rolling countryside - quite the setting. The afternoon tea was superb - and even that is not an adequate word! The sandwiches were delicious with plentiful amount of filling, the scones were warm and fresh from the oven and the cakes…….my goodness, don’t get me started on the blueberry delice 😋😋😋 The whole afternoon was a fabulous and indulgent treat, and the restaurant manager (who I am so sorry to because I have forgotten his name!) was so friendly and helpful and welcoming - he made us feel so comfortable and checked on us several times throughout, having a little chat with us each time. For a spontaneous decision on a sunny Friday afternoon (interspersed with rain, of course!) we ate, we drank, we viewed the scenery and we chatted up a storm - who needs more out of an afternoon tea????

The hotel is in a lovely setting. Loved the way the different rooms are decorated. We had a lovely room. There was a dvd player in the room, shame we didn't know before we went, no mention of it on the facilities at the hotel. We had Tea making facility as well as a coffee maker. Toiletries consisted of shower gel, body lotion shampoo & a separate conditioner. Would definately come back and would recommend.

Great 1 night break with my 9 year daughter between Xmas and New Year. Did exactly what we needed and I would highly recommend. We hadn’t booked afternoon tea but were accommodated in the restaurant for a cream team and some children’s sandwiches, washed down with champagne and hot chocolate. Family swim time started at 3.30pm and we spent a fun hour in the pool which was nicely busy with other families... couples would probably want to avoid 3.30pm - 5pm! The spa pool, sauna and steam were all enjoyed briefly, although children are obviously not allowed in those. We then had dinner in the restaurant... the children’s menu was varied, good quality and well priced (£15 for 3 courses) and an included set menu for me which I thoroughly enjoyed. Great quality and great value again. The highlight however was breakfast, excellent continental selection and a la Carte hot food which included eggs royale, kippers, Scotch pancakes, full English breakfast and other choices a plenty. Good coffee and hot chocolate and friendly service. Would highly recommend as a great value overnight DBB stay. The standard double was nicely furnished, with a comfy bed, and n ie bathroom with toiletries provided. Only criticism of the property was that only one fireplace was lit (the weather was however pretty old), and there are very little grounds apart from some outside seating overlooking the spectacular view. Other than those two minor points, we thoroughly enjoyed everything about our stay.

Our daughter and her husband got married at this lovely hotel on 2nd September. It was a small affair for 14 and we hired a private dinning room. The attention to detail was excellent, the service was excellent and always there when needed. The food was of excellent quality, one slight negative the portions where on the small side. We felt very relaxed and special. A truly lovely occasion, I have nothing but praise.

I bought a spa day for my friend’s birthday. It included lunch, a drink and a treatment. We went today and had a very lovely time! The staff were very nice, the treatment was pretty good as was the food and they had some lovely personal touches, like your names in frames on the table and in the lockers. Overall we had a very lovely day. Soooo....you are probably thinking why only 4 stars....this is because the spa itself is a little tired...the pool, which is a lovely size, is looking particularly shabby, which is a shame. The loos could also do with a lick of paint! Such a shame as otherwise I think it could be a really lovely spa.

My husband booked this as a night away treat as an early birthday present, what a beautiful hotel, but what a let down, if it hadn’t been for Marc behind the bar, I think my husband would of checked out, beds were comfortable but I felt for the money we could of had just as much fun in premier inn, and saved ourselves a couple of hundred pound in added extras

MORE AT TripAdvisor

I came to Nutfield Priory on Sunday 28 April for afternoon tea with two friends. I had been before and that time we were shown in to The Library, which was lovely. This time we were shown to a table in a fairly dark corner, so not a particularly good start and certainly lacking in any atmosphere. Fairly soon after our arrival we were presented with a selection of teas to choose from and shortly after that, a cake stand was brought to the table. On the bottom tier of the stand was a selection of fairly mediocre sandwiches, egg mayo, ham and cucumber, all served on white bread, three tiny fingers each. On top of the sandwiches were three half bagels with a salmon spread, actually quite nice but looked a bit odd. The top two tiers of the stand consisted of various chocolate cakes and white chocolate mousses, so OK if you liked chocolate, a nice Victoria sponge or something similar would have been good. Accompanying all this was a basket containing six scones, three plain and three fruit. These were stone cold. The clotted cream was nice but the strawberry jam was a little insipid. For a total of £120, which included three glasses of Champagne, I believe this tea represented fairly poor value for money. I was very disappointed today compared with my (excellent) experience last time. The staff were all very attentive and I have no criticism of them whatsoever. Special mention should be made of Keiran, who was as lovely as when I met him before.

I visited Nutfield Priory for a mother’s day afternoon tea with my mother and daughter. This was our third visit and the Priory never disappoints for the quality and amount of food. As ever, we had to ask for a box to take a few cakes home. Staff were polite and attentive and the views from the restaurant are lovely. The glass of prosecco and free gift of beauty products was a nice touch for mother’s day. We have been to other venues for afternoon tea which, whilst cheaper, do not compare well and the extra few pounds are worth it for the attention to detail.

We have had many wonderful dinners at the hotel over the last twenty years and took friends along tonight for a celebratory meal. We love the decor and homely ambience, space and friendly formality. However, the service was not up to usual standards and the meal was disappointing. I had monkfish which was a couple of breaded pieces - well presented but not very substantial. Other dishes were similar. Side dishes of vegetables cost extra and lacked choice and quality. The classic style dishes we used to have and beautifully elaborate deserts were sadly missing. Wine was not chilled enough and no nibbles were presented with our pre dinner drinks. We were not relieved of our coats until we asked and ha£ to request drinks after being there about fifteen minutes. Petit fours were also not up to previous standards although the pot of coffee was wonderful. I would be hesitant to return - such a shame as we are local and always loved the special occasion of dinner here.

A very disappointing day! Firstly we asked for a morning slot for our treatment and was given afternoon, so requested to speak to a manager who changed our slot to a morning! I then waited half an hour over my treatment time for the therapist to turn up! Only after waiting and then going to speak to a receptionist was I told she was running late! Our afternoon tea was not much better, tea bought our in mugs and not in a tea pot as it should be served!!! Staff were also not visible to ask for refills! What should have been a relaxing day turned out to be so disappointing!

My sister in law arranged an afternoon tea for us and our mothers at Nutfield Priory, as an alternative quiet hen do (for the mum’s not wanting to do the clubbing bit). I have to say the building itself is beautiful and very impressive when you walk in. The staff were all polite and attentive. Very friendly and chatty. The afternoon tea was £25 each. We were in the library, it was very quiet and private and we had the doors open looking out on to the stunning view. We got a champagne each to start with- then the tea, with sandwiches, cakes, sorbet and scones. Everything tasted fantastic and was amazing value for money. I would go back again, again and again.

Hotel restaurants can be iffy. This isn't. The food is very well presented, very good value and really should be better-known in the area. The hotel is in a Victorian country house, very atmospheric but well-maintained. I didn't have great expectations when booking but the bar area was pleasant, the staff very welcoming and friendly and the quality of the food well above the norm. Nothing too outrageous but nicely thought out and very well cooked. A starter of Ham, Eggs and Chips (that's ham terrine, minute potato crisps and a quail egg), the safe option of steak which turned out to be absolutely gorgeous and a superb take on Summer Pudding to finish. I can't speak for the wine list as I was on the wagon (driving). The price was, frankly, a bargain.

Lovely salad box and mug of tea. Freshly prepared and very tasty. Just one tiny fault was that they had their radio on in the kitchen area which was a bit loud and they couldn’t always hear what the customers ordered. Perhaps turn the volume down just a tad! Apart from that it was perfect!

Service was poor/ lacking and bordering rude. Despite being told to ‘sit there whilst we get you menus’ it turned out that was indeed our place next to the bar prep area with all its banging and crashing. So many staff but no captain (the lady I assume was in charge was not interested). It was organised chaos. Took orders for drinks but they never arrived. Requested jug of water, didn’t arrive. I don’t think the same member of staff came back once. Dinner was great quality etc - except I was rudely told I couldn’t get more potatoes only the cabbage, pretty odd considering they charge over £20 for a carvery. I honestly thought our table was invisible to them. Kept having to try and catch their attention and they’d do anything to look away. Really unfriendly. Desert was bizarre. I fancied a chocolate sundae, I got 2 ice cream scoops with a fat chocolate cookie forced in between. Ridiculous. And to top it all I asked for the bill and that person said yes then 10 minutes later was doing something else so I ask again. They charged me £18 service charge too! Such a shame as the building is lovely, food (carvery anyway) was nice but the service was astonishing - a masterclass in how not to run a restaurant.
