Mirchiz Restaurant in York

We came to break our iftaar here after we were recommended by a regular, the restaurant was cosy with nice decor and the staff were very friendly and provided amazing customer service. The food was amazing and had authentic south Asian food, which was adapted to our spice tolerance. As a south Asian myself, I normally find food to be bland in York but this was far from bland. Overall I really enjoyed my time here and will be coming again

It was Comfortable and had a nice atmosphere , the restaurant was nicely decorated and the customer service was amazing with friendly staff. In terms of the food, it was authentic and tasty and they adapted our food accordingly to our taste. Overall I really recommend this and we would either come again or order.

Fabulous friendly place with a great vibe. We wanted a couple of dishes not on the menu and the waiter confirmed they could make the dishes for us. Food was tasty and came out very quickly. Coffee afterwards was great and the added bonus is you can take your own drinks which made the whole evening very affordable. Will be our go to the next time we're in York!

Great Indian food good service good atmosphere

We went there with our family and not a busy time also. The waiter or might be owner with little long and grey beard was very nasty and rude to us. We placed our order then order more naan. He was furious and staring at us and said we are very busy and don't do ROLLING ORDER. You can order once and can't order again as we are not doing rolling order so we were taken back by his behaviour and did not order more. I have been to restaurants around the world and have never come across such behaviour. He has very arrogant attitude and no respect for guests. He might be good to some English people as saw that attitude there and racist to some.......

Fast and friendly service, delicious food and good value for money. We happened to be in on a Thursday when they had a deal for popadoms, starter and main course which is what we ordered

Outstanding food - our group had the Garlic Chilli Chicken, Prawn Vindaloo and a Kashmiri dish and all were totally delicious. Great poppadoms with fresh dips to start (including a spicy one that I’d not had before) too. Fab service from the waiting staff too. An all round great experience on a very busy night.

Certainly not the worst meal we've had, but a long way from being anywhere near the best. Called in for a takeaway the food was prepared quickly despite the restaurant being busy with Christmas parties, the front of house staff obviously didn't want to be there, but were polite enough, the price was about right, the mains and sundries were hot and tasted OK. Would I go back, no probably not.

The food was good with very large portion sizes. However, the delivery time was ridiculous. I ordered food at 5.50 pm, but the food did not arrive until 9.45 pm. This is complicated by the fact that they are on Deliveroo but use their own driver, who in this case tried to deliver to the wrong address and then prioritised other orders instead of dealing with mine. I would advise the resturant to not advertise on Deliveroo as it makes it very hard for the driver to be contacted. It also makes it hard to chase up your order or deal with it as Deliveroo are not responsible for the delivery. This is also not the first time we have waited over 2 h for food from this restaurant. I would only recommend this place to customers who are willing to collect.

The food is average/ ok, not great. It is further ruined by the rapeseed (vegetable) oil that they use in all food, and which they cannot swap with anything else even if you are allergic. They should know that vegetable oil is an inflammatory seed oil, which is harmful to everyone and not just people who are allergic to it, as similarly to sunflower oil it is high in omega 6 and linoleic acid, which damages cell membranes in the body when consumed. I would love to see them cooking with coconut oil, olive oil or goose fat. The toilets only have cold water, which really shows how much they care about their customers. Cheap but low quality.

Plus is that you take your own drinks, that’s where it ends! Grumpy service, chewy, grisly meat, watery sauce. Probably worst curry we have ever had. Won’t be back. Oh, and a constant stream of delivery drivers pushing past our table, very annoying.

Good food service was very good by one waiter the other I think wanted to be somewhere else the only downside was no desserts otherwise I would given them the give stars

I reduced 1 point simply because of the miserable young bearded waiter. He never cracked a smile. We ordered 2 cokes and he never gave us a glass just a bottle and straw. REALLY. Crack a smile and learn to say please and thank you. Costs nothing.

The food was exceptional. They made us feel so welcome and the service was great. When we visit York again, this restaurant will be on the list as a go to. Remember if you want alcohol, take your own.

This place has been doing great food with excellent service for years. I’ve never been disappointed with a meal there.

Absolutely tremendous. Great service, food came remarkably swiftly and it was outstanding. I had the Balti Kashmiri Karahi and it might just be one of the best curries I’ve ever had. Even the nan breads were great, nowhere near as greasy as conventional Indian restaurant naan breads. It might be slightly out of the city centre, but if you’re in York and you fancy an Indian, it’s well worth the extra travel.

Great little restaurant tucked away on Fishergate. Food and service is always good and the mango lassi is fab.

Firstly, after I ordered for collection by mistake, I called the restaurant and they happily arranged to deliver it for me. There are definitely other restaurants in York who I believe would have just referred me back to just eat to resolve, so I really appreciated that. The food was delivered piping hot, and was all absolutely delicious. We have had a selection of different curry dishes over 2 separate orders, and each dish is actually unique (previous Indian restaurants we have ordered from seem to all be from the same sauce base with only subtle differences). 10/10 service and food. Top notch

The best Indian restaurant that I've ever been to and I've been to many. The food is authentic, plentiful and sublime. The staff are so attentive and the prices are very reasonable. You definitely need to book so that you won't be disappointed as it gets very busy even mid week. One of York's best kept secrets.

Absolutely loved the food. Made the food according my preference (lot of spices) and they were great. Chicken and other meats are halal except for Venison. Recommended.

Two hour wait. Missing items from order. Very poor service.

We ate at this restaurant on a Friday evening and the food was delicious. The staff were friendly and could not do enough for you and everything was reasonably priced .we would definitely recommend this restaurant and come back again .

Great Indian restaurant within walking distance from Roomzzz York where we were staying. Very friendly staff fitted us in even though we hadn’t booked for a Sunday night, and they were very busy. Great meal deal available on a Sunday and Thursday very good value. Food very tasty great selection on the menu and take your own drinks was a bonus. A great little find great atmosphere modern decor would definitely visit again.

First time ordering from here after recommendation from friends. All very nicely packaged, fairly hot and decent variety of dishes to choose from. We had chicken tikka bhuna, chicken balti, Bombay potatoes, fried rice, pilau rice and peschwari naan. My only comment on quality would be that the sauces for both the curries and the Bombay potatoes was very “samey”, same flavours, consistency and colour. Still tasty tho. Rice was great, breads were fresh and soft and the poppadum were fantastic.

Such a lovely restaurant. Food was amazing. Chicken Jalfrezi was amazing. Paratha beautiful & the naan bread was huge. Was visiting York for a few days from Merseyside.One of the nice Indian meals I have ever had. Thank you.

York has a few Indian restaurants who claim to be the vest Mirchiz in my opinion IS the best! early evening as they were opening myself and 13 work colleagues descended on Mirchiz for what was a fantastic meal, my starter of the Onion bargees (x4) were perfect just the right amount for a starter and was soon polished off, followed by the Mango madoo malai which was like a Korma on steroids Highly recommended if you have a sweet tooth but want to try a bit of spice! no complaints from any of my friends and on or two doggy bags were provided there isn't a alcohol licence so you bring your own! it worked out at about £16 per person which is a great price! We will be back again very soon

Went here for their buffet night. The food was delicious, and bring your own booze is an absolute winner! Staff were lovely and friendly. Will absolutely eat here again, amazing value for money.

Service was prompt, staff friendly and the main food items very good. Marked down slightly because we felt that the rice and Peshawar nan were a bit bland compared to our usual at home in Glasgow; but that could just be a regional difference. Would definitely use again when we come back .

A fantastic Indian restaurant serving quality food. No drinks licence but you canntake your own, they also serve soft drinks. Friendly and helpful staff so just ask. Definitely worth a visit or a takeaway.

Really one of the best places I've eaten at in York. Everything tasted so fresh, we took our own wine, they supplied the glasses, I would recommend trying here for food.

We were in York for a couple of nights and found this wonderful restaurant on our last night it is without doubt worth a visit the food is magnificent and the staff are friendly and polite

Went lastnight on a night away in York. Food and service were brilliant. Highly reccomend this restaurant! BEST naan we've ever had and loved the Paneer choices. You can take your own drink too. 5☆

Only 4 stars this time round. I ordered my usual Mhugal Emperor tonight, but when it turned up it was served on a bed of salad leaves. Never seen a salad leaf anywhere near any of my previous Mhugals. The taste was excellent! But salad leaves??? Otherwise, the usual friendly service in a spotless restaurant.

Its worth saying up front, they dont sell alcohol you bring your own and there is no corkage charge! Well done!! The food we ordered was fantastic, very generous portions and delicious, in fact after the pickles, poppadoms and a starter we were quite full and ended up taking the rest home. The staff were attentive and efficient. The atmosphere was lovely, very warm and comfortable. I would highly recommend it.

A cracking restaurant 5 minutes from the city walls down Fishergate. Very good and reasonably priced food with (imo) the best nan in York! They do a 3 course deal on Sundays and Thursdays, papodom, starter, main. rice or nan for £12.95! Great staff and it's BYO alcohol with no corkage.

By far the best Indian I have ever had, each order (3 in one week, its that good) Was consistent in taste and quality. I highly recommend the Balti dishes! The order arrived quickly and was piping hot!

Been a few times for the 3 courses deal and the food is always excellent! Really nice place too. I want to book again ASAP 🤭

Lovely takeaway. We had lamb chops and chicken pakora to start and lamb bhuna and chicken passanda for mains - if we weren't so full halfway through we would have gladly finished the lot in one sitting! Would definitely recommend and will be ordering again. As a side note my partner has a bad reaction to onions so having the salad come without any was a really nice touch for a change. Keep doing this!

Worst Asian food I have had in 30 years it's not for Asians tasteless starters super dry most likely mass boiled and cooked frozen reheated. Chicken masala 8 pieces of chicken nuggets no flavour and tarka daal boiled lentils and boiled ghee with two pieces of garlic thrown top .I wish I had eaten there but I had it takeaway .I live In Wakefield very disappointed in all the food.0 stars to be honest. If you're Asian stay away.

11 of us visited to celebrate my husbands special birthday. The food is always good and didn't disappoint. They let us decorate the tables and area. The staff were very unassuming and efficient. They provided plates etc for the birthday cake and dimmed the lights....
