Lal Quila in York

Where do I start, we booked in advance for my dad's 80th for 11 people including 3 children, from the moment we walked in they could not do enough for us, the restaurant was full, lovely atmosphere, the service was fantastic, the food was excellent and all meals came out together piping hot, my dad got his main and desert complimentary for his birthday, which was a lovely gesture. I would highly recommend to everyone, thank you La Quila you made dad's birthday extra special xx

First visit but certainly not the last! Lovely restaurant, food and lively staff. Really Naseby ti feel welcome and very reasonably priced.

We had a delivery to Rowntree CAMC site, the order online was easy and the delivery driver called when arrived at site, the food was hot and very tasty - would recommend also given a discount which we didn’t expect at all,

always beautiful food, never been disappointed by you. 10/10

After a very traumatic weekend, we decided to order a takeaway. We have used this restaurant several times before, and it has always been reliable. However, yesterday was very different. An hour and a half after placing our order, my wife rang to ask where the food was? we were assured that it was on its way. 30 minutes later, still no food. My wife rang again. Again, she was assured it would be with us imminently. Shortly after that, still no delivery. My wife rang again. This time she was put through to someone in the kitchen, who told her that the food was there and had been on the side for Over an hour. I heard my wife make the call and it was completely specific that we were ordering for delivery. In fact, she was told that it would take longer than if we were to collect it as a result. The person to whom she spoke in the kitchen was incredibly rude and basically told her that they were very busy and she should come and collect. What would undoubtedly have beencold food herself. This place has always been quite reliable but appears to become complacent. Appalling service and the rudeness and lack of apology was particularly outrageous. There are plenty of other places in York to order Indian takeaways. Avoid this one.

Only had takeaway as we were living locally whilst on holiday. It did what it said on the tin, nice enough food, sadly overpowered by the taste of ghee but otherwise a pleasant curry from a local restaurant without any bells and whistles. Would most certainly call on again whilst in the area.

Ordered food from Lal Quila. Once received, we noticed that the prawn curry only had two prawns total. However, we weren't too bothered by this, until we found a dead dried up spider in the middle of the naan bread. We had to leave the rest of the food after this. I emailed to ask for a refund or discount, and they have completely ignored my email. Would not recommend - definitely not too clean

Really tasty, one of the most delicious take aways we've had in York. Bang on time, still hot. Will definitely order again.

Very disappointed with the delivery drivers attitude. I was told I should have ordered 20 minutes earlier as he has to drive back home which is miles from York. The knock on my door was loud and aggressive. If they don’t want to take delivery orders at that time then turn off delivery. I work with just eat too so it’s an easy fix if they want to stop taking orders!!!!

Food is not Pakistani but Indian or Bengali where you have that sweet taste in curry. Staff is the one selling the place. Nice, polite and proffessional Bengali boys Food is 2/10 but service is 7/10 Naan is £2.75 that is SHOCKING.

Unfortunately you forgot the rice and have us a naan instead

I was picking up this order and they text me 10 minutes before the time they told me to pick it up, so naturally the food was cold! I don’t like this restaurant as I’ve had bad dealings before but I had made my own curry and just wanted some chips, nann, rice and sundries all which tasted disgusting! Couldn’t even get the simplest things right or maybe that was because I didn’t have a big o see? Will stick to saffron spice whos food always comes piping hot and amazing! Sort yourselves out!

This was the first time we've tried Lal Quila and it was excellent. Delivered on time and really good food. Both tasty and good quality. Will definitely order from them again. Far superior to other Indian takeaways we've had from this side of the city.

Food was STRIKEY!! Lamb jalfrezi… more like lamb Jalcrazy! Couple of Cobras to wash it down and I was in my mind palace 🐍 Staff were top geezers. Couple next to us were a bit miserable but in the words of Frank Sinatra “That’s Life” . Probs jelouse of the class night we were having. HA! Top place, would recommend for a Bhuna with the boys (or gals)

We did a ‘walk-in’ at 6pm on a Saturday evening & the restaurant was already 1/2 full. A lovely ambience with nice decoration & helpful staff. I had the Afghani curry, never having seen it in any curry house before, and it was fantastic! A beautiful chicken dish with an outstanding creamy and minty sauce. My wife had a Keralan chicken dish which was also very tasty, but on tasting mine she had to agree that mine was so tasty. Staff were very friendly & efficient. By the time we left the restaurant was full - always a good sign of a restaurant!

This was our first visit to the restaurant , went on a Wednesday evening at 5:00 so it was quiet, hadn’t booked but were seated straight away. Once ordered it was quite a short time before our starters arrived and they were excellent as was the main courses. All the dishes were well presented and tasted fantastic. We had two courses each and two drinks. The final bill was less than I expected . If you like Indian food and are in the Bishy Road area give them a try.

We were staying for a few days around the corner from this restaurant. We decided to have a takeaway and fancied a curry. Lal quila did not disappoint. Ali took our order and suggested excellent dishes when we told him what we liked. We had a chicken and lamb jalipur which was beautiful. He said the lamb was soft and it certainly was. As a curry lover this was super! Excellent service, friendly and made us feel very welcome. Definitely recommend.

Ordered take out. Nice food, decent portions. No cutlery though, was fun trying to eat in a hotel room. Ps.. The chillies with the salad aren't pickled if you get what I mean... Hot hot

As we stay at the caravan club site a couple of hundred yards from this indian ,we always eat here at least once a trip. Every time the experience has been excellent. This time was no different. Food excellent, staff very professional and attentive. Portions are very generous even during happy hour. We boxed what was left to eat the next day. A very enjoyable evening again.

Their name is deceiving, don’t go there looking for Indian food. The food is not even close to what we know of Indian food, their food and chef is Bangladeshi. No disrespect to Bangladeshi food, however, they should not call that Indian. They did not have much vegetarian options, lentil was water down, and quantity was so little. Lal Quila is symbol of Delhi pride and history. Just by keeping the name of the restaurant Indian, you should not deceive people who go to relish true Indian food.

Decent food and attentive service without being overbearing. They did get our starters wrong however rectified this without skipping a beat. We ordered a variety of dishes; 6 different meat dishes and 1 vegetable and were all good.

Really enjoyed two lovely meals here (la Quila special, and shashlic chicken) only problem was the day after me and my partner, erm... couldn't stop pumping, and it was baaaad! Swollen tummies and non stop pumps - I'm not sure what's going into it but it actually would stop me returning! Haven't had it THIS bad before with Indian food, this was a whole different level sadly, eek 😂 might be TMI but I gotta be honest! Tasty but deadly 😉

Really didn’t like the sweet sugar balti at all. Very bland and mild. Chicken a bit chewy and onions weren’t fresh

Friendly staff. I asked for paneer to be added to my curry instead of the meat option and they done this for me. The food was nice.

Tasty! We had 1 rice, 1 naan, 1 main and 1 samosa and that was enough for 2. Quick service and pleasant staff.

Must of got them on a bad night. I had a Chicken madras takeaway. Dry, powdery, Not a good dish at all. Very unpleasant and couldn't eat more that a couple of mouthfuls. Ended up in the bin which was not great. Literally inedible. Plain Naan , dry tasteless. Powdery. Not much good to report. Hope it was just an off night maybe for them but I wont be going back. I had Takeout, maybe a sit in is better.

Very good Indian restaurant - extensive menu from which I chose crusty monkfish which came with lemon rice.. the sauce was lovely with the right amount of spice which wasn't too much for me, absolutely delicious 😋 the service was quick, attentive and friendly.. we arrived during the happy hour (5pm-7pm) and received a 15% discount. Highly recommended. 👍

Never been here before, visiting York staying at the CMH site (you get 10% of the bill )the restaurant is 5min walk from site . Clean comfortable and attentive staff . Bottle of wine, poppadoms and pickles, mixed platter starter shared between 2, Tandoori King prawn sizzler , chicken Kuchi speciality of the restaurant, pilau rice and garlic naan £60 with discount. Food not overloaded with sauce packed with meat and flavours really enjoyed the whole experience. Thank you.

Nice place with a huge selection, although so far I've struggled to find dishes that weren't sweet.

Vi er et par som er veldig glad i indisk mat. Siden vi hadde leid en leilighet i nærheten ville vi gjerne prøve denne indiske restauranten som lå i fem minutters gangavstand. Vi delte en kebab til forrett og bestilte ett tandoori lammespyd og en vegetable curry. Forretten var en skuffelse fordi den var dårleg krydret og en ram smak av sau var dominerende. Curryen var sterk, men smakte ikke annet en sterkt og grønnsakene var altfor mye kokt. Lammekjøttet var så seigt at det var vanskelig å skjære over med kniv, og jeg så at kelneren la merke til at jeg hadde problemer. Da han spurte om maten var god, svarte jeg ganske enkelt nei, og han sa at kjøttet var seigt fordi det måtte varmes opp to ganger i forbindelse med krydringen. Alle vet jo at dette er tull, men han tilbød meg å velge en annen rett i stedet. Siden alle tre rettene var av absolutt dårligste kvalitet, så jeg ingen grunn til å prøve enda en, men han slo av ti prosent på det uspiselige kjøttet. Lokale venner var ikke overrasket over vår erfaring og sa at dette var et sted alle hadde hatt dårlige erfaringer med. Kort sagt: Alle tre rettene var virkelig usmakelige. Go somewhere else.

It’s a shame there was no taste to any of the curries. I just wish they would use some salt. The most important ingredient. Very disappointed

Ordered Chicken Rezala,butter chicken 2 garlic naan and pilau and mushroom rice two seperate dishes a chicken Rezala (dark red sauce with onions) and a butter chicken (creamy yellow similar to a korma) as well as well even tho I was promised the dishes can be made , brought them back to the hotel room opened up, only thing different was the rice, we were given two plain naans and two main dishes both the same what a waste of £36

Came here by chance and was served by Ali and his colleague.. We had the chicken chaat and chicken tikka which was delicious and made to our taste requirements..a highchair was available for our little man too and they have a child friendly menu too.. The food was reasonably priced, staff were hospitable and the food was authentic.. We look forward to coming again even though we came all the way from Birmingham, the home of the curry! Also parking nearby (opposite the supermarket..)

Perfect. One of the best in York.

On entering its a nice clean restaurant and you get a good friendly welcome, great service from the start with attentive waiter, good choice on the menu and short waits for drinks and starters, we slightly tweaked out choice of food as the widmfe wanted something different but not too spicy and they were happy to help, all the food we had was hot, tasty and cooked really well, can't fault anything. Just to add if you're visiting the camc site you get a 10% discount so great bonus

Love this place, their Afghanistan curry is minty and spicy and absolutely a gem; veg pilau is great. Always delicious and fresh, even when we order it as takeaway! Service is friendly. What a great neighborhood place.

Very pleasant eating experience

Starters were OK but taisted like they were reheated. Bobby Chicken was fresh and delicious. Poppadoms were a little soft.

We love La Quila restaurant and takeaway, but we were so disappointed last night. I’m hoping it was a one off. Both curry’s a Bhuna and Butter Chicken were absolutely tasteless. It was as if no spice had been included and we had to pile on the salt and pepper the meal was £37.00 and just such a waste! We will go back there as the food is normally fantastic!

Really lovely Indian restaurant with a great selection of very tasty food. Great staff and we were made to feel very welcome by some extremely busy but caring staff.

Four of us went at 7pm on a Sunday night when it was beginning to wind down after happy hour, but they still forgot the mint sauce to go with our onion bhajis, and then with the chicken tika we ordered, and no sauce came with the samosas we had either, but we asked and it came - they have a sauce problem, ha ha. Apart from that the food was well cooked and plentiful, and the naans we ordered were very fresh, light and fluffy as they should be. Going back to the bhajis, I like to think they were freshly cooked, but they were a little compressed and heavy, but edible. The drinks were fairly priced, and the Cobra was excellently kept and served and the house red was good. Friendly staff and 10% student discount is also available after happy hour when they give 15% discount to everyone. Good varied menu so we'll be back.

Have been here a couple of times with my partner - haven't had to book and have had a really nice time. The food isn't life changing, but is well executed and there's a decent variety.

Oh my god. I'm Indian and they cooked their chicken masal exactly the way we make it at home. Best Indian food I've ever had in the UK. The staff understood what I wanted and they delivered. I had tears in my eyes because they reminded me of my home. Thank you so much guys!

Its not even one star. Customer service is so bad. I was sitting for 15 min with no one came to ask me about my order. The food is not indian at all. The food was grabbed from other customers and served to me. The bread was not cooker. They get me a dough. I dont recommend this restaurant at all 👎

Our 2nd visit to this place, wasn't that impressed with the service on the 1st visit, but the food was not too bad, so decided to give them a 2nd chance. Big Mistake! It was the day of the Ebor, so it was packed out, it seemed like the head waiter was serving outside, so we asked for a table for 2, he pointed to a 3 foot square table outside and said that was all he could do for us as it was so busy, but it was blowing a gale so I turned it down, but he talked my son into it. We had Bhaji starters, which were okay. But when they came with the main meal, they just shoved it all on the table & left, the plate that had my chapati on was on my dinner plate, the table was clearly inadequate, but then we realised we had nothing to eat the meal with, I had to go inside & ask for a knife & fork for us, by the time I wanted a piece of the chapati it was clap cold, the chips looked reheated & also soon went cold, I couldn't place the napkin on my lap because of the wind keep blowing it off, and the table was at angle & I was expecting food to fall off all the time, eventually, I was that flustered that I ended up dropping my knife onto my pants & got curry on my pants & shirt cuff, the bill was just plonked on the table by the head waiter with the words "That's yours" as he rushed past. This will be our last time, they've had their chances with me. My advice to you all, if you can't eat inside, don't bother, and if it's busy, expect Ignorance & bad service, after all, they just want your money!

Food was 10 minutes late and still didn’t include 1 of the mains, 1 starter and a naan bread, very disappointed. Restaurant delivered the missing items around 30-45 minutes later, but we had gone passed the hunger point so just binned it. Food quality put as 3 as normally it is really nice.

Used to live in the area and come here all of the time, now i live away but visit friends on an annual basis and can't not come here. Again it did not disappoint- setting great, food great, service great, not too pricey. Thanks again

Me and my boyfriend visited this place for our anniversary, as soon as we sat down they asked us what would we like to drink, we hadn't had chance to look at the menu! We just felt very rushed! Despite this, the food was lovely.

An excellent menu card offering a wide range of dishes to most tastes. Drinks are also available both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. A very welcoming staff ensures a great experience.

Chicken like rubber and dry, so disappointed, usually use an Indian restaurant in town where the quality of meat and taste is always great, fancied a change and regretted massively. Can’t even say cheap and cheerful as it wasn’t! When I order chicken I don’t expect square chunks.
