Jorvik Spice in York

Great little restaurant near York centre, food was amazing, very reasonable. Staff were very attentive especially rana. Not a lot of atmosphere but everything eles was spot on.

Poor sevice, stochy packors, poor curry lack of customer service, wide beth reccomended 😒😒😒😒

Really very nice staff, absolutely delicious food and a nice stay. In my opinion, it's definitely an "insider tip" because the restaurant is a bit out of the way. We would definitely come back next time we visit York! Only the tip was, in our opinion, too high at around 20%...

One of the better Indian offerings in York. The menu has a lot to offer and the dishes are reliably high quality. Prices are fair and the staff are friendly and welcoming. The mixed starter plate was especially good as were the sagg options.

Visiting York and was recommended this restaurant by a local pub landlord. So glad we took his advice, amazing food, really delicious. Staff were very friendly and helpful and can't fault anything about this excellent restaurant, would highly recommend to anyone for a great, well priced meal in pleasant surroundings.

Ordered a lovely meal delivered within thirty minutes, piping hot and so tasty. Onion Baji, kebabs, lamb jal ferezi, chicken korma and best parathas I've tasted. Great value for money too!

First time eating here and can honestly say i will definitely be back. My friend and I were staying at The Ibis Hotel directly opposite and as a last minute decision decided to try Jorvik Spices and I'm so pleased we did. The place was nipping clean, the atmosphere was good, the waiter was lovely and could not have been more helpful or attentive. The food was absolutely delicious. We had onion bhaji for starters, I had chicken jalfrezi with pilau rice. The Jalfrezi was full of chicken and the rice was cooked perfectly. My friend had the same starter then had Chicken Dopiaza with chips, she said her meal was beautiful too. We had a garlic and a keema nann which were light, fluffy and very tasty. Apart from everything ive said the prices are very reasonable. Cannot recommend this restaurant enough.

Traveling for work I have been to several restaurants around York, as my profile shall show. I can say hands down this restaurant is the best I’ve been to. I’m of Bengali ethnicity and the waiters are so keen to talk Bengali with me. Usually the problem with curry houses like these is there’s always too much oil in the dish. The first night I ordered Nawabi Khanna, which was sublime. The reason I rate the restaurant a 4/5 is the oil content prevented me from having a good quality sleep. I returned there a few days later and the waiter recognized me. I’ve been following the waiter’s recommendations for what to eat as I always order the same dish. I had the chicken and mince dish, the staff curry and then the Naga lamb curry. All fantastic choices, I highly recommend them. Do not be afraid to request less oil in your dish as this makes the taste even better. The waiters will be fine with this! If you go to York, please go to this restaurant.

We went here recently on holiday, we were able to get a table without booking. The food was great, it arrived quickly and tasted fantastic. The biggest thing that let it down for us was the serice, although pleasant they took plates away while the other person was still eating. Which may be a personal thing but we find this a rude gesture, we understand wanting speed and efficiency but atleast wait for everyone to finish enjoying their food. The resturant looks a little rough around the edges, no table clothes holes in the ceilings from old light fittings. Dispite the couple of issues, we would still reccomend going there due to the quality of food alone.

Back again 10/09/23 and again a very good Jalfrazi and another solid 5. A solid 5. The Jalfrazi was tasty and on the warm side ! I had Chicken Jalfrazi, lots of chicken and chilli. The gravy was thick and had a rich tomato taste. I had the Jorvik House rice which is egg and peas, lots of egg unlike other restaurants. I had a Keema nan and instead of a lump of meat, the meat was evenly spread out across the whole nan which was light and fresh. COBRA beer on draft and £4.50 a pint, the Jalfrazi was £9.95, the rice was £3.50 and the nan was £3.20. I'm an out of town visitor and this place was opposite my Hotel Ibis Centre. All in all i couldn't find anything to fault them. When I'm in York next I'll visit again. I dined on a Monday night. 👍

When I arrived I explained I was extremely allergic to dairy. I asked if the balti had dairy. I spelt out to him no milk, no cream, no yoghurt, no cheese. When I got it I was suspicious and asked the other waiter. He refused to tell me if it had dairy but took it back to the kitchen. I waited 15 minutes and got brought their second attempt. After questioning several times they admitted the first one had dairy. They have a poster above their counter explaining the importance of allergies. These people are going to either kill somebody one day or at least make them very sick. If I’d been less suspicious and eaten what they gave me I would have ended up in hospital for several days. This drab little eating establishment needs to be closed down.

Really good quality and choice of food. Service quick. Reasonably priced. Booked a table in advance and happy to accommodate us.

A quiet night . The food was exceptional well presented and very tasty. Staff friendly and helpful. Restaurant was small but very clean and tidy. Menu varied with some popular classics as well. Definitely worth a visit. You won't be disappointed .

A good little restaurant. All the classic dishes on the menu. The Chef's specials were an interesting combination of things and very nice. Service was friendly and efficient. Overall costs were decent.

A top drawer experience in a neat little local place. Food ad service much better than initial appearances might suggest. It was so good we came back again the following night. A good range of Indian staples as well as wide selection of House and Chef Specials. Fabulously thin poppadoms on first night.

Poor. Pilau rice missing from order, chicken was of poor quality and overcooked, had to discard one of the sides due to it being drenched in oil, main dish sauces were watery. Called to try and rectify missing rice - unfortunately communication issues with the chap on the phone. Ordered via Just Eat but never again. Wholly underwhelming experience.

The food was really tasty, staff friendly and attentive and the restaurant was clean. It was super busy with takeaway orders which shows the mark of quality. Highly recommend.

This place have the worst tikka masal I have ever had. I ordered with the king prawns and was only given four prawn’s. Could not finish the meal and was disappointed.

Being a big Indian food lover, and not far from my hotel, probably the best Indian I have had in the Last year, I'm back in York in two weeks time, and guess where I'm going. Thank you for a fabulous meal.

Opposite the Ibis where I stayed this was just right for eating on my own. Great choice of dishes, good service and excellent value. What I appreciated was not being rushed, decent portion sizes and finishing the meal comfortably without feeling over-full. The flavour of my chicken rezella dish was spot on.

We have used this restaurant many times and the food is exceptional, the front of house staff are brilliant especially the head waiter who’s called Jakir, nothing was a problem for him !

Loved this restaurant. Gorgeous food, attentive staff made us feel at home. Food not over spicy like some can be - medium curries we had were quite gentle, allowing us to appreciate more of the complex flavours. Would happily come again, and definitely recommend.

Amazing food, friendly service and affordable!

I went with a group of colleagues after a day at the races on the recomendation of someone we bumped into in a pub. So glad we listened to him as the food was delicious and the staff were extremely fiendly and helpful. I would definietely visit again and highly recomend.

Herd that this place was good,very much the opposite, ordered lamb shashlick ended up with lamb tikka,absolutely tiny pieces along with burnt onions on a sizzling dish.,disgusting. Partner ordered lamb balls, Could of been a korma. Stay away if you're looking forward to tasty spicy food.

A great venue for an excellent curry. Try the pasanda chicken curry. It's delicious. Well worth a visit.

Don't recommend it at all first he didn't put white tablecloth and then he put cutlery on the table without any tissues there is a lot of bacterias! That tell me everything about that local . They want to be restaurant but it's just normal take a way with some extra chairs and tables inside! On the end they cheated us for £10 and we gave them tip ! Have no words for that kind of act!

Very tasty food, quite a small restaurant, maybe 14 or so tables. A little disappointed as the waiter did not allow me a Cobra glass ( I collect ) Offered to pay and not steal, but a flat refusal. As I said though great food which is the priority.

Had a weekend break in york and after reading reviews we opted for Jorvic. Wow it did not disappoint. Amazing food, amazing service and amazing atmosphere. Give it a go.. shami starter is a must, nicest I've ever had.

Food confirmed to be delivered between 20:30 - 20:50 Kept waiting then received a phone call from restaurant owner at 22:00, He asked if I could come pick up my order as it has been sat on the side for an hour and half waiting for a driver to turn up. I told him that's not acceptable and if he remade it I would come pick it up. He said it's fine and doesn't need to be remade... Personally I'd prefer it fresh but I settled with asking for fresh chips and naan bread, as let's be honest they're normally soggy normally. He said "NO that will cost me £10 to make you fresh chips and a naan". Couldn't believe he wouldn't meet me half way on anything... Owner was extremely rude and said he didn't care as he's already been paid for the order. Needless to say after waiting over 2 hours I requested a full refund and will NEVER order from here again.

Four of us dropped in here by accident - it was over the road from the hotel and it was raining and no Taxis. So glad we did. The food was absolutely fantastic - with some different menu items than the norm. The service was excellent and friendly folks with great prices. We all thoroughly enjoyed it. What a great find!!!

Was a few weeks back since I last ordered but still aggrevied by the order. I'm sure restaurant is great but takeaway with 30% off was shocking n clearly hurting them. Food really poor, sauce literally like water with 3 tiny pieces of meat. No taste or flavour at all. Both dishes were extremely poor so I've changed restaurant.

Not the greatest atmosphere, no music at first then music was too loud. Kept on badgering about food order while we were enjoying our beer and poppadoms, asked about 3 times in 10minutes. Service wasn't great, no smile and very abrupt. Ordered a butter chicken (as shown in photograph), worst one I've ever had and I've been to plenty Indian restaurants, not how a butter chicken should be served! Food was mediocre Highlight of the visit was the peshwari naan, garlic naan and the beers!

This meal blew mine and my husbands minds. As frequent Indian food consumers and big travelers, we are always on the hunt for the best in town. This one, I must say, has taken the prize for best in all of our travels thus far. My husband enjoyed the sizzle mix for one as an appetizer and I enjoyed the mushroom pakoras — they were lovely and a perfect teaser for what was to come. For mains, we went with the Chef Specials: fish masala (ordered hot) and the lamb shanks — we were both mesmerized by the flavors and presentation. Cooked and spiced to perfection — leaving no room for criticism. If I could have dreamt up the most perfectly made to order Indian food, this one would still have been better. I have invited many people to join me in a trip to York just to have this deliciousness again. Very thankful.

Gritty nan bread food cold Trying to get in touch with the restaurant or food hub is like trying to get an audience with the pope, impossible. Only option is bad reviews and take business elsewhere.

Excellent food and perfectly priced making it good value for money. 👍 Really recommended to go here if staying in the nearby hotels. All size groups accepted, including solo diners. Food came out in a good time, and perfectly cooked. If I'm in York again I will be going back!

Ordered a take out from here as it is just down the road from my hotel. I thought I would take a chance on the mutton staff curry. OMG! what a flavour sensation! I have had many curries through my 47 years and this was by far the best. The only downside to this is that I live in South Wales and I might struggle to get Uber eats to deliver. Next time I am in York I will be eating here! Sadly I can't attach a photo of the food as I ate the lot, but I have shown the empty pots and remaining bones.

We rented a flat for a week and this was our first meal on arrival in York. Hot freshly cooked food. Delicious curries, rice and peshwari naan. Really taste the different spices. We enjoyed it so much, we had our last meal of the week here. Our only problem is we don’t have a restaurant in Scotland like this.

Ordered a take out from here as it was just down the road from my hotel, I took a chance on the mutton staff curry and OMG what a flavour sensation! Sadly I live in South Wales so won't be able to get delivery very easily ☹️. Sorry I couldn't add photos of the food but I ate it all but I did photo the empty pots and left over bones. 😎

Would like to show pictures of food but unfortunately I ate all of it as you can see empty pots, never finish a curry normally but all I can say is Omg what a fantastic curry had egg pilau, sabzi Bazar and mutton staff curry amazing flavours. Wished I'd known it was a restaurant ordered takeaway and sat in hotel room to eat, still enjoyed every moment anyway would definitely order again unfortunately don't think they deliver to s/wales 5 stars from me and the the other half

If you enter a restaurant that is quiet and are then generally ignored i/e not asked what drink you would like or heaven forbid given a menu to peruse then you are quite entitled to get up and walk out, which is exactly what i did.

We looked up all the local Indian restaurants, this one was the closest to our hotel and looked nice, well you will not be disappointed the food is very nice the staff are very friendly, good service, the menu has a lot of options, highly recommended

Ordered chicken tikka dupiaza, chicken tikka rogan, keema naan, peshwari naan and a mushroom pilau. Meal arrived piping hot and 5 minutes earlier than quoted which was a bonus. Excellent tasting food at a very reasonable price,will definitely be ordering from here again!

We have had 2 takeaways using the JustEat app from Jorvik Spice recently. We have also sat in a few times. Seriously, very good food. Staff curry is a favourite of ours. The 2 takeaways were delivered very quickly and nice and hot. Absolutely delicious. Definitely one of our favourite Indian takeaways that we have found and we have tried a LOT! Nom nom! 😋😋😋

ordered from here through uber eats, order came with missing naan breads and they sent chicken tikka instead of chicken tikka masala. we called the place to enquire about the missing order however we were met with a very hostile response.they then tried to charge us for the food that was missing even though it had already been paid for. from the food that was delivered, the chicken was pink. do not order from here.

Horrendous service, the naan breads were not delivered and the service on the phone was very rude when we enquired and they were not helpful at all. Do not order from this restaurant as you will not receive what you ordered.

ABSOLUTELY VILE. Numerous unacceptable problems, starting with I am a sufferer of Ulcerative Colitis so to be served and eating RAW chicken is outrageous as this could put me in hospital, the owner didn’t seem to care either claiming its not raw when it is clearly pink and actually laughed in my face when describing how this can effect me. Moreover, they delivered dry tikka chicken when we ordered tikka masala curry. Service was actually disgusting, needs to be checked by food standards agency.

I ordered from Jorvik Spice via Uber Eats, and just WOW. One of the best curries of my life. I had Bindaya chicken and the chicken was absolutely delicious, so tender and flavourful. The sauce was really good and it was a great portion and truly high quality food. The pilau rice was perfect, I love my rice so very happy. I ordered 2 papadums and they gave me an extra one - Well it was a clean plate from me 😋 I love poppadoms. The peshawari naan was also superb and tasted really fresh and authentic. Overall, Jorvik Spice come highly recommended from me and I cannot wait to enjoy another takeaway from them, and will be going in when covid-19 restrictions ease. So lucky to have the talented team at Jorvik Spice to be in York. Wonderful.
