Merry House Takeaway in Guildford

Lovely food and friendly service only spoiled by the fact the phone isn’t answered during busy times so you have to drive down, order, go home and return to collect. Could he solved by more staff to answer phone or website/app ordering. Puts me off using what’s otherwise a great takeaway.

Excellent food and friendly service is dished up here all the time. The best FIsh and chips (Cod) in the UK at an excellent price. The Singapore Chow Mein is also excllent. Am a regular here now as you dont get better than Merry House.

I can’t begin to express just how much we absolutely love Merry House. It’s the only takeaway I eat from. The food is excellent and they know that I’m vegetarian and take extra care when preparing my food. It doesn’t smell fresh and rank as the food usually does from other Chinese places. It’s a bit far from where I live but we’re always happy to travel and get great food!

Not many places can do more than one cuisine to such high standards. Merry House Chinese menu is excellent from the duck pancakes to the chow mein. However their cod and scampi is also incredible and the chips taste triple cooked! Highly recommend!

I am not sure what the merry House is doing differently but the fish and chips we had tonight was probably the best we have ever had anywhere. The fish was a generous portion of cod and very fresh and the chips were crisp on the outside and so soft on the inside. Absolutely great quality and by far the best in the area and beyond. Well done Merry House.

Food is always piping hot, excellent quality, great tasting and nothing is too much trouble...even "just 4 chips please". We regularly place an order by phone and it's always available on time and handed over with a smile. Ty, Merry House.

Reliable but average - food always seems a bit over cooked but friendly staff and good value for money

Only tried the Malaysian dishes but they were delicious. Will definitely use again This takeaway has apparently won awards and if these dishes were anything to go by then we can see why 5*

From the exterior you would be forgiven for thinking that this is just a local chippy but try the Malay dishes and you will realise that we have a real gem in the village. The staff are so friendly and always happy to give you expert advice.

Just had very tasty Chinese food - not sloppy - and a wonderful Malaysian lamb curry. Meat was so tender. Well spiced. Portions just right. Had their Malaysian Rendang beef previously - also very tasty and with tender beef.

Great quality and very friendly service. Full menu of all the normal 'fish & chip' shop fare plus a comprehensive selection of Asian (Thai & Chinese)alternatives.It's our local, and there are other good alternatives within a short driving distance, but it's our local 'first choice' due to its extensive menu choices.

This is our local and we have takeout most weeks. Both the fish and chips were damn near perfect this week. Beautiful flaky fish and crisp but thin batter, chips chunky and crispy. Keep up the good work! Service is friendly and efficient.

I love Singapore rice noodles and I have to say that this establishment, has consistently provided me with the best ever Singapore rice noodles that I have tasted anywhere. Delicious!

Patatas fritas el peor que hemos tenido. Mi marido no es exigente en cuanto a las patatas fritas, pero estos eran tan seco incluso tuvo que sofocar ellos en ketchup para hacer comestible. Yo no pudo comer. El pescado estaba mal. Una pequeña pieza rectangular (me recordó a un cocinero supermercado usted mismo marca) - y para £5 parecía muy caro. Por desgracia, no lo recomiendo y no volvería.

Has the best chips I have ever eaten from a chip shop. And they are always the same. Good cod, smaller than they used to be, and tasty sausages.

The food was mediocre and rather oily and not particularly appetising. We have ordered food in the past and the quality was netter than our last experience.

We use this place all the time brilliant all round.Phone them up and 20 mins it's ready to collect. The staff are all nice and happy.The portions are generous and the price us right. Chinese or English it's all great.

Once again a great take away meal from Merry House.Kids loved their fish and chips and parents loved their Chinese! Good and service great.

Best chips, they are like mimi roast potatoes, a large portion does 4 people, I pass 5 shops to get to this one

Great takeaway fish and chips freshly cooked with not too much batter. Chips light and crisp. What a breath of fresh air for a chippy

Good enough takeaway for Chinese / Malasyan food. I ordered prawns / rice with duck plus noodles with duck on the next day. Extremely fresh, good taste, - value for money.

I seem to remember that recently the Merry House was voted among the top 50 fish and chip shops in the country. I was not surprised as I have always rated them highly but not only for their fish and chips. They also produce some very edible Asiatiic dishes particularly their Malay dishes. I can also practice my Malay on the proprietress.

Both Chinese and fish and chips are the best for miles around. Would highly recommend, delicious food, very clean, friendly staff. The only down side is they don't deliver. Believe me it's worth the trip!

I'm very very picky about my fish and chips, but this was very very good! Chips were typical Chinese style, so very chunky and a bit under cooked, but very tasty. Good mushy peas too.

A favourite for passing tradesmen and locals is the fish and chips from Merry House. No idea where they get their potatoes from, but they make the best chips

Best fish and chips ever. The fish was well cooked and fresh and the chips were excellent. Quantities made it very good value.

Staying at a local hotel i took advice from reviews on this site and decided on a visit to this takeaway. The quality of the food was ok but was very disappointed that the main dish and fried rice came in the same dish. Choosing a set meal for one, i expected the two to come in separate dishes same as any other chinese. In hindsight i should have bought from the chinese in Leatherhead that has always delivered excellent food. At the end though no longer hungry i wasnt full. Would i use them again or promote them, well the food was good but the fact that the portions were halved then no.

5mins away from our hotel de vere was very nice and tasty large portions and ce in a nice eco friendly recyclable bag.

This is our local fish and chip shop. It is owned by a Malaysian Lady and she also will cook Malaysian dishes if they are pre-ordered. Chinese food is also on the menu.If we want fish and chips we always go to the Merry House. They are very friendly,the kitchen is clean and the food is always fresh.

Good fish and chips but also wide range of other take away foods, more recently Thai meals. Service is freindly and efficient

The standard of this takeaway blew me away- the Chinese and Malaysian cuisines being highlights. The food had been cooked beautifully, and the menu boasts an impressive array of flavours to choose from. The fish and chips were also very good indeed. As a bonus, we recieved a nice carry bag we can use again, and a pretty calendar! 10/10.

I grew up with this Chinese as a kid, it was the stuff of legend, then it came under new management and I cannot help but feel the place has taken a turn for the worse, while the fish and chips are still ok, the Chinese has taken a real beating in terms of quality. give it a go but don't be surprised if you are left feeling disappointed

Just wanted to phone to ask about delivery service. Lady who answered very abrupt and curt. Lost some good business with me as I was willing to put in a massive order. Their loss.

I have been using the Merry House for some time now and the food is unfailingly good and the service efficient and polite. Particular favourites are the crispy chilli beef and the king prawn chow mein. The soups are also excellent. We are lucky to have this in the village.

We've returned to using Merry House after a change of ownership a while ago. The Fish and Chips are excellent and are all freshly cooked to order. What more could you ask. Lovely batter and quality fish. Chips just as they should be hot, crispy, chunky and not greasy. The chinese takeaway is good too. Especially the Salt and Chilli Chicken - delicious. Prices are on the higher side for a takeaway but I wouldn't expect anything less in Horsley! Word is getting round as it's getting busier and busier on a Friday night!

Average at best. Pleasant staff and extremely clean shop with no greasy smell, but pretty tasteless chips, and average fish.

Now and then, there is simply nothing that can beat good old Fish and Chips! But a bad one is so dissapointing isn't it? Soggy chips or batter! Eaugh! But at the Merry House the batter is spot on, crisp, light and tasty too! Fish is delicious and the chips are light and fluffy on the inside, crisp and dry on the outside. You WONT be dissapointed. My son loves a sausage in batter and we have tried many dishes and never been dissapointed. Hardly surprised to learn they are in the top 50 UK chippies. Well done Merry House, rightly deserved. (I must now try the Chinese food you offer!)

Lillian runs a superb operation with great customer service. A great variety on the menu from excellent fish and chips to her fabulous Malaysian dishes. Don't miss her delicious lamb curry, or king prawn Sambal!

Best takeaway in East Horsley. Great staff and great food. Food is served very quickly and great choice of food on the menu.
