Cute cafe with great toasties and coffee. Staff really friendly and helpful with a good range of food choices including baked potatoes, toasties and sandwiches. Coffee was a good sized cup with a mellow flavour. Good prices and a great view over the Mermaid Beach.

The food here is lovely however here’s some constructive feedback for the management: - have two queues; one for ice cream and coffee and another for food orders. The queue takes so long and some people only want a quick ice lolly. We will return but only if the queue situation is managed.

Stopped briefly for hot drinks. Welcome refuge from the cold wind coming from the sea. Cosy little cafe and busy even though very cold outside. We enjoyed coffees in the snug with a toasted hot cross bun. It does look a little tired inside but I feel a first step would be to serve hot drinks inside the cafe in proper cups instead of cardboard cups.

What a beautiful spot - overlooking the sea and it had quite a relaxed, quirky feel. The ladies who were serving seemed nice. We ordered two hot drinks, a water, a sweet pastry and a sandwich - the cost came to just under £20 which I felt was excessive. The food was nice but not amazing and the same goes for the hot drinks, it certainly does not warrant such inflated prices.

This place never fails to disappoint. Its surely a goldmine on the beach but time after time they run out of food and drink. Today, the first sunny day for ages, they only had soy milk at 11am and couldn't do a toastie because they were waiting for a delivery at 1pm! Maybe send one of the many teenage staff to the supermarket to get bread and milk? It's a real shame, could be so good but it's a shambles whenever I go there.

We visited Mermaids today for drinks & ice creams, there were 7 of us. Unfortunately, the young girl with dark hair who was serving needs some lessons in customer service! As we approached the counter to read the menu boards she abruptly said 'does anyone know what they actually want?' we replied that we were looking and she responded by slumping herself on the counter and put her head in her hands. I'd like to point out that at this time we were the only customers waiting to be served. She took our order with no please or thank yous and was nothing short of rude. As we gathered our drinks to walk away there was another family approaching the counter to which her response was 'oh my god why is there so many people' and was seemingly annoyed by the customers. As for the establishment itself, I'm sure it would be a lovely place to visit especially in the summer with the views of the beach but unfortunately the attitude from this particular member of staff let's Mermaids down.

Every time I come here I have a vegan cheese, tomato and onion toastie and it is delicious! (I once tried Falafel and hummus when I was told after paying that there was no cheese and this was awful. Too dry). Service with a smile and I really appreciate how the food packaging is compostable and they provide different bins to separate everything. More vegan ice cream flavours would be great, not just vanilla. Place needs a repaint and some TLC but you can't fault the location and I love cycling here from Hythe for a coffee.

The scooped or machine ice creams sold here are low quality or heavily watered down and refrozen. They are full of ice crystals and melt almost instantly. You won’t get a thick creamy ice cream here, it’s literally icy mush and it will be half way down your arm before you gone 10 paces.

Visited the Leas on the last Saturday in August with my daughter and family. Decided not to take a picnic and we were all pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food at this cafe. The service was also quite prompt considering the number of people using it. The children all enjoyed their meals too. Friendly staff. My only negative experience: I wanted to leave a tip but didn't have any change so I queued up to ask for some behind a family giving their order. When it came to my turn, the staff member went off somewhere, coming back a couple of times to do something else and completely ignoring me and the queue which had now formed. I know they were busy but a quick "I'll be with you in a moment", wouldn't have gone amiss. In the end I gave up. The other negative is the toilets: in the ladies one was unpleasantly blocked and the other cistern took for ever to refill and there was no toilet paper. Later on we went back for ice creams which were delicious.

We ordered two Brie and bacon panini's and a children's meal... this consisted of half a jacket potato with beans, with one bottle of coke, the total bill came to £17.70, when I queried it the lady explained that the half a potato was £4, I couldn't believe it, had my daughter not been hungry I would not have purchased it, complete day light robbery!! When she finally got it, the waitress put it straight in front of her before my husband could check it and it was so very hot it scalded her mouth and she understandably refused to eat it. (I should point out that if she had said no to my request I would have chosen something else without question, it was busy so I wasn't expecting a yes)Within 5-10 minutes my plate arrived and it looked lovely (see pic) and it tasted as good as it looked, its tricky to get eggs done well but with the added tomato it was a delight, simple food cooked well and served quickly. Was not expecting such a great brunch at a great place with such lovely people.Just a quick point on prices, I felt this was excellent value, but lets not forget that in these locations trade must die off in the winter, so if you have to pay a little more then please keep this in mind, I am sure they don't own a million pound yacht in the harbor :)Next time I am down this way I will go out of my way to visit.

Haven't been in here for years, decided to pop in and get a ice cream with my son, Over priced, Long ques, out of most stock, rude staff on the verge of arrogance, but that isn't the worst part at all. I witnessed a member of staff wipe all work surfaces with the grimmist piece of stained cloth and then wipe the attachment that heats milk on the coffee machine. The attachment was caked in old milk and needed properly cleaning off so a quick wipe with a manky cloth would only of left the germs to actually stick to this! Having worked in such places this attachment should be cleaned after every jug of milk heated!!!

A wonderful setting. Today was a great sunny winter day and we sat with a pot of tea and a cake enjoying the view and sunshine. An average cafe but worth a visit if you are walking in the area.

We visited on hottest day of the year with 2 small children who unfortunately have a milk allergy. They only stock a fruit pastille lolly and this was out of stock! Who doesn't sell more choice of fruit lolly! My poor babies were so upset we got them to leave the park with the lure of a lolly and get here to be told nothing suitable! It's a lovely spot and only place near please stock more fruit lollies with no milk!

Yes it's too busy. And yes it's quite dear. But what do we expect. It's busy because we all think it's amazing and of ourse we would like it if no one else was there but then how would they make a living. The food and goods are dear, but usually v nice and I do think its worth the wait. Kent has very few cafes by thesea, god knows why and this is one of the best. If you haven't been go and be patient you will be rewarded.

The position is a gift. It is the only Cafe on that stretch of shingle beach. The Bar in the title is a misnomer, it is non alcoholic.A very busy Venue, I had baked Potato Marie Rose, very generous portion of prawns but unfortunately cold in the centre, on a lovely day the Cafe was overstretched. It is charming, with nicely quirky serving ideas and some imagination in the salads.I would like to go there again when it is not so busy.

We ordered baked potatoes which was a mistake. The filling was very generous but the potatoes were stone cold in the middle. The restaurant has a lovely position but I wouldn't go back.

I visited today with my one year old and my pug as we have done on numerous occasions. We ordered our food sat down and enjoyed our lunch expensive for what we had but I knew this and have always enjoyed our visits. However after we had eaten I saw something that made me feel physically sick, the lady sweeping the floor took the broom from the floor and then swept the work surfaces where she had just prepared mine and my sons food!! Then returned the brush to the floor, it was such a natural thing to do looked like it was common practice!! I was horrified!! I left and phone environmental health. Such a shame it WAS a nice place to pop in after a dig walk.

This is a sweet little place that you suddenly come across on the coastal path. You are so grateful you don't have to haul yourself back up to The Leas again without a drink! You go in and it's a tiny cafe with a surprisingly sophisticated menu and also the expected ice creams and fizzy drinks. But it's one of only a couple of places where you can take your dog in a cafe. For a supposedly animal loving nation this is very remiss of Folkestone I think. So this is a welcome surprise. Food is very good and looking out to the beach on a sunny day with your dog in tow - well what could be better?

This cafe is nothing fancy but does offer lovely fresh made sandwiches at a great beach location. We've been a few times over the years when we visit this part of Kent and always had a nice lunch blessed with nice weather.Seems to have recently changed hands but similar menu as to before.

Just when you're thinking of making your way back to town, because you might think the path is going nowhere, you are relieved to find The Mermaid Cafe, where you can stop and rest, while enjoying morning coffee, light snacks, ice cream or afternoon tea, before walking back to town.

Had a lovely lunch here today. Small Grandaughter had the children's meal deal, which cost £4.00. This included a bag of crisps, a small chocolate bar, a carton of either orange or apple juice and a cheese sandwich. There was so much cheese in the sandwich that my other half had to finish it! Amazing. We had a coffee, a piece of shortbread and a feta cheese and olive baguette with salad. There must have been about half a pound of mixed olives on the top of the baguette, they tasted fresh, as did the feta cheese. It was big enough for the two of us to share. Would definitely return here in the future. Beautiful views of the sea too. Forgot to mention the cute little chairs available for the little ones.

Pass by many times but this time I have decided to give it a try and do my usual coffee break here. The space is alright, the service was okay and the coffee was good. The atmosphere was not the best but the location compensate. I will come back for another coffee breaks.
