Lakeside Cafe and Bar in Gosport

We held my husband's 50th birthday party at the Lakeside Cafe and the staff were amazing and very accommodating. The buffet food was very good. We had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed our evening!! We definitely recommend hiring this venue

Had the Christmas meal, a lovely filled plate of great food which was hot and delicious, would recommend everybody try this at least once. Can't wait to go again, we're never disappointed, great thanx to the friendly staff x

Today five friends went for Xmas dinner, it was hot, large and very very tasty. That is not surprising though as 2 of us go every Friday for lunch. Never had a bad meal at all. Staff brilliant and friendly. Go you won’t regret it.

This is a nice located cafe over the Gosport Boating Lake with views beyond. Walking in was okay, however the 'DJ music set up' just within was not in keeping with the place. Staff were really friendly and accommodated us (3) on the balcony which was pleasant. Nice little cafe style menu. We all ordered a baguette (approx 7" long) with Sausage Bacon and Egg. This arrived timely. The baguette itself was soft, but the bacon had been pre-cooked and heated in a microwave, and the sausage was 'cheap'. The baguette was cut into 2, we only had 1 slice of bacon 1 sausage and 1 egg. The bacon was only on 1 half and the sausage was cut in half length ways and the egg cut in half, meaning for a measly baguette for the price charged!! This was so disappointing. In addition to this, we asked for tomato sauce and it was bought out in small paper ramekins.....I prefer a bottle (although this is trivial), and for it to be Heinz. Overall, what could be a good, nicely located cafe, has been let down by scrimping and poor produce. Go above and beyond, get local sausages, cook bacon fresh and crispy and improve the quality and portion then you will have repeat custom. Unfortunately, I will not be returning.

This is good spot for a café with the view of the pond and the HMS Alliance in background. Good food, great service and a bright and clean space where you felt relaxed to eat and drink at ease.

Really lovely place for lunch. The staff were very efficient, friendly and welcoming. The menu was very comprehensive and the jacket potatoes with fillings that we had were very good portions, very well cooked and nicely presented. Very nice location.

Ordered an Ice Cream Milkshake, received a standard milkshake, so I went into ask if they made a standard milkshake by mistake as there was clearly no ice cream in it, just cold milk. They told me with an attitude they they saw it get made with ice cream… and that was the end of the conversation. Poor customer service overall as well, a shame really.

Had a vegetarian breakfast with my friend excellent meal and service extremely clean Would definitely recommend can’t wait to go back

Went to this cafe with my husbands parents, who are local, and couldn’t believe what a little gem this turned out to be. Lovely location, very friendly and polite staff, relaxing atmosphere with a great menu. We enjoyed the breakfast so much we returned the following day. The quality was excellent and it was very good value for money. We will definitely visit again.

So my wife & I use this place regularly and it’s always been brilliant. Until today. Coffee was cold. But that’s not what made us angry. We didn’t mention it until we were leaving & then only in case there was an issue with the machine. The response was bizarre. Basically the guy running the place accused us of lying even going as far as barging past us to ask another customer if his drink was hot. All we wanted was an acknowledgment

We regularly use this cafe to go for breakfast and lunch. The food is always great, the staff are very friendly and it’s always very clean in here! It can get busy so I’d recommend phoning ahead or pre booking a table especially for bigger groups. Lovely views over the pond too!

Great cafe the breakfast is the best we’ve had for a long time, lovely and hot and plenty of food. My husband is quite a critic of English breakfast and he was very impressed so we’re definitely being going back. Myself and my mum do pop in for coffee and always pleasant staff. Breakfast was piping hot which was superb and my coffee was fantastic and customer service was first class first time me and my partner used the restaurant and will be happy to say we will be using it again.

What a great place the Lakeside Cafe and Bar is. Stuck with nowhere to go for lunch we searched Trip advisor and this place came up so off we set from Paulsgrove to Gosport on a Sunday midday and it was worth the journey. The place was very clean and welcoming, as where the staff. She had Tomato soup and an egg and crescent baguette and I had Stilton and celery soup with a Welsh Rarebit chaser and can say that they were hot and extremely tasty and is to be recommended. I've set a reminder to visit again soon to try another dish as it was that good. It was all accompanied with a great view of the boating lakes and the model sailing club having a race..........Brilliant. Ps. The heating was on and the place was lovely and warm which was a blessing from the 4deg C outside :-)

Very disappointed. Phone the day before to reserve a table for breakfast. Requested a table by the window which was confirmed. Arrived and was told they could not seat us by the window as the table by the windows were not for 2 people only for 4 or 6.Five minutes later 2 people arrived and promptly sat by a table at the window. The waitress made no attempt deal with the situation. There was no thought given to the table we were seated at, we were just "plonked " in the middle of the walkway. it was the most unrelaxing breakfast I have had in a cafe/restaurant not the way to start my only day off. On reflection we should have left at this stage but I can say that we will not be returning to this cafe.We have lived in Gosport for 46 years and would not recommend any family or friends to this cafe.

Such a warm and welcoming place. Great people and food as always. My uncle lives in Gosport and is a regular visitor and I was there recently after many months due to Covid. Every precaution was taken to keep customers safe. The special that day was cottage pie which was delicious. Huge thanks to Dawn and Karen and all the team.

Father-in-laws birthday and decided to take him there for lunch as he and his late wife used to go there. Covid restrictions well managed. Food was really nice - shepherds pie, steak ciabatta and an omelette all very tasty and reasonably priced. Have loved in Gosport for 17 years and only been once before this visit but will definitely go again.

As a regular customer of Lakeside for some years now, frequently visiting more than once a week, I feel I am fully justified in commenting on Laura1973's recent negative comments. No matter how busy the Lakeside has been the staff have always been incredibly friendly and helpful and for someone who regularly orders a full English breakfast I do so with the knowledge that it will not be greasy. I have probably visited Lakeside on more than 200 occasions and have never left disappointed. Take it from someone who really knows Lakeside is the place to eat in Gosport.

Serves the most healthy cooked breakfast in town. Head and shoulders above all the other cafes in town. Good value for money, too.

Another excellent meal at this friendly cafe. The onion and steak ciabatta is really tasty and has a large helping of beef steak and an appetising side salad. Finish off the meal with a hot pudding; choice of spotted dick, syrup sponge or ginger with the option of custard, cream or ice cream. Can't wait for my next visit!

It is a long time since we visited Lakeside so it was good to see it back up and running and busy on a sunny Sunday morning. Friendly and efficient staff, whilst we only had hot drinks on this occasion, we will return for lunch at a later date. All the Lockdown requirements were being observed.

Having read the reviews I was expecting more....I arrived for lunch, and to be honest wasn’t greeted with a smile. I didn’t find the staff very friendly and the food was nothing special. Maybe I caught them on a bad day!!

My hubby and I visited the cafe this morning for breakfast. We were greeted warmly by the lovely lady serving us,and a full explanation of precautionary measures was given, reassuring us that it's a very safe & healthy place to visit. Spotlessly clean tables, beautiful decor and a great view over the lake from our table. Breakfast was a delight, beautifully cooked with good portions. All accompanied by fab background music. Dawn and her team really did us proud. We were celebrating our twin boys 18th birthday with family and friends and it was perfect. Nothing was too much trouble. The atmosphere was fantastic and everyone had a great time. We had a choice of 3 hot meals and everyone complimented how nice the food was. Venue was decorated lovely for the party. I was told of the cafe and it was a very welcome visit on a rainy day after a walk along the beach earlier I had been shown and walked to the far end .the cafe was pleasant and welcoming fir digs u was pleased that dogs were welcome at the front of the cafe so we had a good view of thesea.friendly staff .laté still not hot enough .scone nice .would recommend a very popular cafe

We have had breakfast here a number of times and always found it to be good quality and great value for money. It would be better if a drink was included in the price, or offered at 50% off the marked price. Saying that, it’s still a cracking breakfast and we enjoy watching the model boat enthusiasts on the lake!

First time, we had a lovely breakfast not a lot of tables, thought we weren’t going to get one, reserved are put on tables with a time but we weren’t shown to them even though we would have been finished way before the time on the notice. Wished there were a choice of toast and better quality bread other than that we will return as it has interesting views of the model boats being played with on the water.

By a boating lake. Nice and cosy, very clean, good value, basic menu but well presented and cooked. Dont take cards though so come with cash or cheque.

Was recommended to the Lakeside Cafe' by a friend. We only had afternoon tea and bread pudding, but it was very tasty. The staff were friendly and when the bread pudding was served they had warmed it up. They have a varied menu to suit all tastes at reasonable prices. There is a large car park close to the Cafe' with Disabled Badge Holder's parking. The premises has 5 star hygiene rating and when you walk in it looks clean and tidy with nice views over the lakes. The toilets were also very clean. We will definitely return on our next trip to Gosport. One word of warning - they only accept CASH payment - card are NOT accepted.

My wife and I are regular visitors to the Lakeside and have only ever had praise for the food, staff friendliness and lovely views across the boating pools in Walpole Park. We took our visits one stage further this time and booked the Lakeside as our chosen venue to celebrate our golden wedding anniversary with family and friends. Dawn, Heather and Wai pulled out all the stops to help make our evening forever memorable. Arriving for our party we found Lakeside beautifully decorated in gold and white, appropriate background music and glasses of white and pink prosecco ready to greet our guests. We chose a hot buffet which was both delicious and plentiful, followed by gourmet cheesecake and coffee. Wine flowed freely throughout the evening and at all times Dawn, Heather and Wai were always on hand to attend to our every need. Cannot recommend Lakeside highly enough for an evening function - you will not be disappointed.

This is one of the best cafes i have ever visited in my life , thats how impressed i was with this cafe. On arrival parking was so easy as adjacent is a large car park with easy access, the building itself has a nice look and veyr inviting especially as it overlooks water/lakes from its many windows. On entering cafe we were immediately given a friendly welcome and shown to tables. The menu was quite comprehensive and prices were very reasonable , i chose the homemade chicken jalfrezi which was very tasty and not too hot but had a nice ammount of spice, with this i had a cappucino and my total bill was £7-95 which i considered a bargain. I noted that the sticker on entrance sported a five star hygiene rating which did not surprise me as the whole establishment was spotlessly clean . Only drawback for me is that i dont live locally as we were visiting the nearby Naval Submarine Museum , but if i did live near i would certainly be paying multiple visits here for a full english breakfast or lunch.I understand this is a family run cafe and i cant praise them enough for their all round perfect eatery , well done and keep up the hard work.

Went with family for brunch time. Really nice place and somewhat different. Worth a visit. Didn't appreciate at 10ish having a reserved sign put on our table for the twelve o-clock bookings. Nothing like a huge hint to leave when you haven't even eaten!!
