Always a friendly welcome and serving a good range of beers & cider along with your usual wines & spirits. Can be very busy on a Friday but plenty of staff ensure service is still quick.

We had a great night helped by the fact that we won our pool match good food and good hospitality

A simple traditional pub - two ok real ales, pickled eggs and crisps. Landlord was friendly, and a lively and friendly atmosphere

Visited for a quiet pint and it was a quiet pint. It really looks a little dated when you compare it to some of the local competition. Saying that the staff were polite

Looks like a throwback as you pass and to some extent when you walk in and look around. Landlady was busy serving but looked up and said "I'll be with you in just a minute." Simple thing but rarely practised - my dad would've called it "the mark of a good pub." Landlord and barmaid both came in then and we were served. When the barmaid put my pint of Tribute on the bar she said "I'll just let it settle"; I knew then I wasn't going to get served a short pint and have to ask for it to be topped up. In fact, she poured a measure into a shorts glass for me to save faffing with the pint! These are two tiny things but if you treat your customers right they'll come back. The landlord was prompt to tidy the tables and clean up as soon as people left. Oh - and it was an excellent pint of Tribute, followed deservedly by another. Cheers!

The pub has a lovely beer garden and inside is good too. Made to feel very welcome by the landlord and staff. Table service was quick and efficient. A very enjoyable evening. Only drinks served at the moment but we were informed starting to serve food sometime in August.

It's the first time I've been there in years... Pleasant place to go Covid19 aware which is good. Couple of Real Ales that's enjoyable.

Great atmosphere proper community pub

So happy to see the old house open again and inspiringly rejuvenated, no Juke Box, No TVs, No sport just a busy pub with people engaged and talking, strangers, yes strangers discussing rubbish on great depth, just like a british pub should be. I hope it stays this way.

Awful service from a rude, obnoxious barmaid who I'm guessing is the landlady. Short changed us and no apology, then short changed us again. Rude, judgemental comments and lack of basic manners from her. We are new to the area and wanted to try out a local pub but had the feeling from the moment we opened the door we weren't welcome. Only positive about this pub is that they let dogs in. Wouldn't choose to go here again even if all the other pubs in gosport closed.

Support your local! After being closed for a year or more the old house is open again and needs your support. Lovely atmosphere and great ale. Large screen tv and dog friendly 🐶🐕😀😃😄

What a great pub. Friendly bar staff , cheap drinks , good selection of bar snacks. It's well worth popping in for a pint if your passing.

I am new to the area so thought I would check out some of the local pubs with my partner. On arrival we found the pub to be quite empty but looked like a nice pub. Barmaid was friendly and the pool table is always a bonus. So we thought we would stay. The beer looked flat and the coke came out of a 2ltr bottle (the glass of coke ended up costing more than the price of a whole bottle). BUT my main reason for this review is the ladies toilet. Never before have I seen a toilet so disgusting. The worst part is it's not from misuse, it's from the pub not caring or cleaning it properly. I can't even believe it is allowed to happen. It's such a shame. The pub has such potential if they just do the simple things right.

Cool pub. Open evenings and all day weekends. Quite bar with a pool table. Garden in summer. Good service.

Very friendly, helpful staff coupled with great food served in a lovely old building. We had a warm welcome as we walked in and chose a table near the fire. The fairy lights against the dark oak panelling are a nice effect and brightens the place up (as to the flowers on the tables and windowsills). The food is obviously home-made, so took a little whilecoming but was well worth the wait. We can highly recommend the chicken, ham and leek pie and the chocolate brownie sundae to finish the meal was amazing! Would highly recommend anyone to visit, and we will certainly be coming back next time we’re down in Portsmouth. Thanks

Just like our local at home. Friendly people at the pub where the beer is cold and refreshing. For the short while we were in Gosport, we were adopted by the patrons of this establishment offering suggestions and recommendations of what to do and see. Didn't eat here but the food serving looked and sounded good.

Four of us went here on Thursday 26th October and initially we were unsure as the place was empty at 8.15. However, the Tribute beer and the steak and ale pie is terrific! 😀 The portions are substantial and well cooked with the suet pastry being delicious. Two of us had the pie and we were both pleased with our choice. The other two had lasagne and egg and chips, both generous portions, tasty and good value. Will definitely be returning.

Six of us went here for a meal and although we have always had really good meals here I have to say we all said it wasn't great this time. The chips were soggy and tasted of grease like they had been reheated. You could barely hear yourself talk in there due to load mouth locals at the bar. We won't be going back there in a hurry.

Called in for Saturday evening meal and a drink. Bar staff extremely friendly, food was absolutely excellent, and the beer good. Had a good chat with the friendly locals. Was made to feel very at home. Will definitely be calling in here for another meal without a doubt. Highly recommend this pub for a visit. You must try it.

Friendly helpful staff with great food, good size portions and good prices. Great place to go for a drink and a chat. No juke box/TV/darts etc. Family friendly.

Este parece ser cada vez un lugar frecuentado nuestro almuerzo de domingo. Nos han bajado un par de veces girando para un almuerzo tarde unos 2 30 y han acabado de los asados. Llegar allí un poco antes. Llegamos allí unos 12. 30 ayer. Había un flujo constante de clientes. Opción de ternera, cordero, cerdo o pavo. Inicio verduras cocinadas y encantador esponjosas roasties. Espacio para dos de nosotros y yo siempre tome un perrito bolsa. Todos caliente y sabrosa. Sin duda lo recomiendo. Su entorno no, pero el personal es amable, los baños están limpios y el servicio bueno.

I love going here and am a recent convert. The rear garden is small but perfectly formed and is great if you like the sun. The burgers are very good at £9 odd, though cheaper are available and they also do two dishes for £14 though I have not had these. Lovely clean loos for a pub, nice staff, great food. What more could we want. Keep it up !

I have reviewed before, I didn't complain about the quality of the food as it's always good. My point was that a lot of dishes mainly the roasts had always sold out. Went in this week for a roast and saw that they now have a Sunday menu with only selected meals on it. What a result! Everything available, delicious roast dinner for me and a scrummy burger for my hubby. £7.95 for each meal, absolute bargain.

We have been to this pub on numerous occasions now and the food has been good and of generous portions at good valued prices.

A friend and I work close to the old house and I have to say we are addicted to our lunches. Every week we say that we are only eating out once a week but the food is so good and the staff are so friendly at the old house we just can't help ourselves and end up eating out most days.Food is reasonably priced and portions are huge! Definately makes our working day feel shorter.

The food was excellent, big portions small price, the burgers were amazing. The staff were brilliant with the children, we will back very soon

Recently visited here with friends for a bite to eat late one Saturday afternoon. Was greeted with a very warm welcome by the staff. Choices on menu was great and we all finally opted for a burger each. Got told might be a slight delay due to amount of customers in. Honest from start which was good. Food was lovely, everyone enjoyed their burgers and they looked good! Not thrown together like some places. Will defo go back!!

After reading about this place we tried the food and it was lovely. As always my partner had steak and ale pie (creature of habit) i had the salad both meals were lovely the steak and ale pie was the best he had eaten in a pub. The salad was nice and fresh. Would highly recommend this pub.

not been here for a while and surprised to see one or two low reviews.... this time there was 6 of us all friends..2 of which hadn't been here before. we ordered a lovely Sunday lunch, choice of lamb, beef, pork or turkey at £7.95!... we had amazing big yorkies and an abundance of vegetables, followed by homemade sticky toffee, crumble puds and sundaes. i have to say not one of us was unhappy with anything! great food, friendly chatty staff who make you feel extremely welcome, no matter how busy it is someone will always take the time to see if everything is ok .. if you need any sauces, extra gravy etc. personally i couldn't recommend a better Sunday Roast anywhere!

I had the suet crust pie and to be quite honest I can see why it's empty. I have never had a more disgusting meal offered and charged 8 pounds fifty to eat that pile of crap in fact I left it. They served chips that were soft and greasy the suet crust pie was in fact covered with a bisto type gravy/sauce that was salty and resembled play dough and way to salty.The chips were placed on the plate with the care of an orangutan in fact I ate the cold peas well you can't mess them up well can you???????I believe the place needs a good clean like clean off the weeks of grime from the table we was sitting at, and may I say less chatting more work for your wage would help and a little attention to detail.By the way I do know about catering as ex royal navy and more maybe call in someone who knowsThankyou derek

Me and my wife and family have eaten here on a number of occasions and always had a great experience the food is second to none and always had very prompt service and the staff are always very pleasent and nothing is to much trouble and have recomended to friends on a number of ocassions 5 stars

Went with a party of 12 including 3 children under 4. Food was exceptional 4 adults had roast dinner and excellent value for the money vegetables were pipping hot, if there was one criticism the gravy could be a touch thicker. 3 other adults had the French burger and these were superb, one other had a mixed grill to die for one of the best I have seen and cooked to perfection. One other had haddock, new potatoes and salad and the piece of fish was large overal I oulet recommend this for a sundaylunch, staff very pleasant we booked to ensure they new how many were coming. I believe the other reviews are slightly unfair as food is excellent, good value for money and will go back again

Came here after looking on TripAdvisor for good pub food in Gosport. Totally lived up to its 5star, amazing size portion, we choose the messy burger £8 and ham egg and chips £8 both meals fully enjoyed, staff cheerful and helpful, will be using again for a good pub lunch.

Love the food here but the last 3 Sunday's we have gone in for a roast and they have none left. They lost a table of 4 3 times because of this. Why? Cook extra and do bubble and squeak the next day, but not to have the basics is madness. They do lovely good if you can get it.

I have only started eating here again in the last 12 months or so as there was a time where the menu and quality of the food really dropped but I am really pleased to say that owners/management listened to feedback and completely turned it around. The food is delicious,home cooked and amazing value for money. There were 10 of us tonight and every single one of us enjoyed our meals. 10 out of 10! It was my son's birthday and he has recently joined the Navy and said he will be bringing the rest of his class down for one of the epic burgers they serve! Thanks for a lovely evening.

Popped in for Sunday lunch, table was booked in advance. Delicious with tasty veg, tender beef & plenty of it. Nice gravy, potatoes & Yorkshires. 2 things were a bit disappointing .1. Only beef selection left even though table was booked in advanced & it was only 2.30 pm.2. Price of bottle of white wine £19......ouch !

Really delighted that we decided to give the food in this pub a try.The staff were very friendly and helpful and smiles aplenty. Felt very welcome and relaxing. The portion sizes were enormous and I have to admit that I was beaten by the chips! I wholly recommend you try this pub out for food, it's tasty, wholesome and extremely good value. We will certainly be going again, but if I am intending to have the mixed grill, there'll be no need for a starter! Lesson learnt...

We have visited this pub several times for food and have always been very impressed. The new barmaid (Claire) and the chef (another Claire) are always bubbly and friendly which helps us to relax after a long day at work. The menu is full and varied and the food is of a good quality, is very well presented and there is plenty of it. I would definitely recommend this pub for food but would advise booking if you plan to go on a Sunday. We were disappointed to be turned away one Sunday as they were so busy, but it certainly hasn't stopped us going since.
