Kokoro Sushi and Bento in Guildford

Kokoro offers really tasty food - speedy service and all the staff here are genuinely so lovely. I’ve never had a bad experience here!

Tasty, not had this before and it was delicious. We always end up eating at other food chains when we have visited shopping malls but decided to have a change and was happy we did. We had sweet and sour chicken and noodles, lovely and left me feeling full for quite some time.

Our first shopping trip to Guildford and we were struck with hunger and opted for the nearest place which happened to be Kokoro (in the shopping precinct Food Court). The place was clean and the portions given generous. The spring rolls were very nice - light and crisp and not at all oily. My partner has Chicken Katsu with noodles and I opted for Sweet Chilli Chicken with rice. The portions were generous but they are very cheap cuts of meat - fatty and chewy, despite the sauce trying to do a good job to disguise this. It was not bad for £25 with a couple of drinks, but very average and, if you're picky about your meat I would not recommend.

Great food, fantastic portions. The only negative I would give is the lack of seating but it's a very small area to begin with. You can easily grab a takeaway and go to the nearby gardens to eat it there.

Fast food that’s healthy & delivered with a smile. Very efficient service & friendly staff. The turnover is huge and the place is super busy as the food is a good standard. A great spot for a quick refuel.

The food here just isn’t good and that’s mostly due to them not making the rice correctly. It was like unseasoned mush. We ate in the Chichester bench and wouldn’t eat hear again.

The food is brilliant - the sushi, miso soup and vegetable sprong rolls I had were all delicious. The staff are wonderful, answering any query qith a smile.

I normally visit kokoro in Guildford high street one or twice in a month and it was always good size portion and never needed to eat anything else after having kokoro. However this time the portion got very small specially the rice, I was still hungry after finishing my food. And I am not even a big eater..a small portion I could eat only half n pass it to my partner to finish but not today. Really disappointed and doesn’t worth the money .

We love this chain and this branch especially. Always friendly and a large portion of fresh chicken cats goes a long way...

Came here with some friends for a quick meal and the staff here are considerable rude. When you ask for something or have a question and ask politely. They get angry and I feel have some sort of chip on their shoulder. I will never be coming back

We went to Kokoro in the Friary Centre in Guilford and the service was dreadful. After we waited to pay patiently in the queue for about 30 minutes, we arrived at the till to pay for drinks only and because we were not buying food we were made to wait to serve other people behind us and were asked to go back to the back of the queue with very rude manners so we left without the drinks and no apologies as to why we were asked to queue again. Staff is beyond rude and I will not go back there again.

Oh gosh this food is GOOD! I’m actually in the Chichester branch but they’re new so don’t have TripAdvisor entry….? It’s a fairly uninnspiring looking cafe, but I needed a quick eat. And the food is totally delicious. I had shrimp gyoza and some spring rolls. Really fresh and beautiful flavours.

Best Japanese takeaway in Guildford The portions are really good and the price as well! Highly recommend

I go to Kokoro at least once a week and never had any issues with the staff. I visited last weekend and an older gentleman (could potentially be the manager) was so rude to myself and the two girls behind me. I then visited a couple of time’s in the week, and was shocked when a female member of staff rolled her eyes at me for asking for more sauce. And then today, my partner visited for me because I refused to be treated in this way, and they were rude to him!!!! Guys sort it out, manners are free.

Received a Deliveroo takeaway today with a number of Sushi selections which all contained a lot of avocado. It is not difficult to identify an unripe avocado when it is cut, because the knife does not glide through it. In fact in this case, someone would have had to have worked hard to cut it up as it was as hard a nails. Surely they would want to ensure that the quality of the food they produce would have people coming back for more - well apparently not - and I certainly wont be.

This is my favourite place to go if I ever get sushi. The employees are the nicest I have ever met. This should be 5 out of 5 on its rating. Kokoro is the best place for sushi and Bento. If you do too, you should definitely go here.

You can sit on a few seats inside & small tables on the pavement . Have been a few times.Food is tasty but very salty so end up drinking loads of water for rest of day. Convenient spot in Guildford.There seems to be ano branch in the Friary food court nearby but I found the tables there were not kept clean enough as shared with multiple restaurants. Would prefer this site in Guildford

I was told by a colleague that kokoro did the best katsu curry, passing this one in Guildford I decided to give it a go. I went for a medium portion for around £7, this was good value for money. The curry was very tasty and got carried away eating it and forgot to take a photo until a lot of it had gone. Tasty fast food.

Having ordered from this restaurant on Deliveroo and a meal being missing I was absolutely disgusted with the response when I contacted the branch in North Street. The man who answered the phone was extremely rude and insisted he had packed my order correctly, well let me tell you this there was no way all the food ordered would’ve fitted in the bag provided! He then hung up the phone on me when I responded that he had made a mistake. I will never order from here again , if you do then I hope it is correct because you will get nothing but abuse from the apparent manager. This was not just to myself, we had a visitor too and when she contacted them again she also said he has NO customer service skills and would not let her speak. EXTREMELY RUDE WILL NOT USE AGAIN , INSUNUATES CUSTOMERS ARE LYING WHEN FOOD IS MISSING FROM ORDER!,

Love Kokoro, I as my Friday treat when working in Guildford. Love the katsu curry very generous portions. Service is very quick. It's mostly takeaway and eating space is limited to a few window seats and a couple of tables outside

This morning I visited the Kokoro branch at the Friary Centre for lunch with my sister. There was a huge queue at the till but we thought of giving Kokoro a go as the food looked delicious. I ordered a large teriyaki chicken portion and was horrified. The pot was coated to the brim with teriyaki sauce which was terribly sweet. There wasn’t much rice at all and there were very few pieces of chicken - most of the toppings consisted of white onions. The steamed rice was swimming in the sauce and I genuinely had to tip the pot over to pour out the gravy-like sauce.I was very hungry but I couldn’t finish this as it was disgusting. For nearly £10 I expected much more. A waste of time and money. Yikes!

I buy lunch from here almost weekly and they never disappoint. All food is freshly prepared each day and the service is fast and friendly. Highly recommend the chicken katsu and the salmon sushi selection! All sushi comes with soy sauce, a little blob of wasabi and some pickled ginger which is a nice touch.

I am living in Guildford for around 5 years and having chicken katsu with rice like a once per week. And it was so tasty and chicken so good and price also amazing but it was on North Street. 5 months ago I moved to different city and visit Guildofrd yesterday I was so happy when I noticed that kokoro is in Friary center, didn't think a lot and go for katsu. The worst katsu I ever had, saouce was bland, totally tasteless, chicken was chawy and not eatable at all. I was so disappointed it is not a kokoro what I loved. Not going to visit again.

Kokoro in Guildford in fact has two outlets, one along North Street and another in the Friaries Shopping centre. Both serve identical menus, based on their narrow takeaway menu and winning formula that is predictable.

The food here is amazing - the spicy tofu and sweet chill are the best! Friendly servers and the sushi is also great on the go!

Food is really tasty, salmon terryaki is a particular favourite, great for grabbing a bite on your lunch hour.

Just a simple 'street food' place to eat or grab a take away and their Katsu is the best. The service is quick, portions good and prices very reasonable. If you've not eaten here yet (and they have a few branches) why ever not?

I come often to this place for lunch. I recommend it because the service is fast, the food very good, the staff is friendly and is convenient. I've tried almost everything there... Amazing!

Quite disgusting. You can tell that the sushi has been made for days. They also made a mistake in the order and send Ebi Shumai set instead of what I’ve ordered. The filo pasta was liquid, so you can tell that is not fresh at all. The rice of the sushi was green due to being for a long time beside the seaweed salad. The avocado quite brown as well. Totally disgusting and not worth the money at all.

We came across this Kokoro Sushi and Bento at 47A High Street,very close to M&S; at Maiden Head. I was told by the staff of that this Kokoro Sushi&Bento; has just opened for 2 weeks. I find that there are many Kokoro in quite a few places in UK.

A couple of years ago I would have given 5 stars but with the inconsistency of the quality if food and staff I have to drop 2. As an ex chef trained in sushi and bento it personally falls below my standards. I last ordered a chicken teriyaki. 2 bites in and I threw it away and got food from somewhere else. It's not all bad though. I think the katsu curry is ok but that isn't enough to stop me from going to meat the Greek. Thanks for the food kokoro.

Great quick food for not much. Money. Very authentic and just in time service. Nothing posh but worth a trip. Kids love it.

I absolutely love Kokoro, wish there were more around! Really tasty food, good portions for a reasonable price. The shop itself is TINY, they should definitely expand as everyone I know who has tried it, loves it. Will be visiting again!

Absolutely excellent Chicken Katsu Curry ! Not tasted anything like it, I really enjoy this dish especially when I order the battered fried prawns to go along with it. I’m not a fan of spice, however I found it to be just the right kick that wasn’t too much for me so I am still able to enjoy. I would highly recommend Kokoro to anyone

The shop is the size of a large walk-in closet. You walk in, order, and your food is ready about 6.3 seconds later. You pay, and walk out. There are tables outside, though with English weather, I wouldn’t rely on it.

Fantastic food served at Kokoro in Guildford. This is perfect for a lunch time take away meal - can't fault it.

Normally, I would go to Kokoro when I want a quick and simple meal. However, most of the time, I did not enjoy eating their food at Windsor. This time, I went to Kokoro in Guildford but, surprisingly, the Sushi was quite fresh and the fish was still soft. I also informed the staff to give me a cup of really hot miso soup and he did serve me one which was really hot! It was quite a delicious meal and I would recommend this Sushi bento at Kokoro in Guildford.

I've eaten here 20+ times in the past year or two and it's always been great. The sushi, chicken katsu curry, sweet & chilli chicken, spicy tofu, spicy chicken curry and spicy pork are all amazing, and the staff are friendly.

There are two branches of Kokoru in Guildford (one in the Friary, one on the corner of Swan Lane and North St). I find the portions generous, the flavours authentic and not in any way harsh. I go regularly to both branches. I have two criticisms: The Friary branch advertises a seafood soup, but requires one to wait 10 minutes in order to get it, beyond whatever time one spends in the queue (I suppose cooked to order), so not one to have when in a rush. The Swan Lane branch may have some issues with their chicken prep or storage: I have had a runny tummy on two occasions and the last meal on both occasions being from there. It may be coincidence and I hope it is. You would never think it as the hygiene one sees on entering seems very good.

This Japanese cafe is very popular, which can bring its own problems because it gets quite busy. There is limited...

Nunca he probado la comida caliente (que parece que es bueno como mi amigo alabanzas sobre el teriyaki de salmón), pero es un hecho que los rollos de sushi frío son realmente buenas, y mucho más conveniente y razonable que Yo Sushi.

En general estoy bastante fácil ir pero realmente no alimentan la comida a mi perro. Salmón fue enfermizo, dulce teriaki gloopy, salido de un (barato) tarro. Kastu curry de pollo con curry estaba preparado KFC (hizo más dulce salsa y más de lo usual) preparaban gloopy. Realmente la comida horrible. . . Evitar.

Hemos estado yendo a Kokoros continuamente a lo largo de los años y nunca estoy decepcionado con el sabor de la comida! También el tamaño de las porciones son extremadamente generosos. A veces es escaso, pero no soy muy exigente con que en un sitio de comida para llevar.

No sé cómo me ha tomado tanto tiempo descubrir Kokoro. He pasado que muchas veces pero nunca pagó alguna atención pero en verdad nos entra en la cocina los olores durante la hora del almuerzo y pensé que me gustaría probarlo. A pesar del servicio malhumorado (que me dijeron es bastante común para Kokoro! Katsu) probé el curry de pollo y dulce de chili (ambos con arroz) y me quedé sorprendido por el tamaño de las porciones que eran generosos para decir lo menos. Ambos platos estaban absolutamente delicioso. Mi queja habitual de comida japonesa para llevar es que ponen un poco fuerte (ni dulce ni salado, picante pero ambos platos suficiente) eran absolutamente perfecto para mí. Ya estoy planeando mi próxima visita!

I am certainly a regular of kokoro- I love chicken katsu curry and this is the best I have found in Guildford (I recently went to Japan and the first thing I did when i got back was go here!)Speedy service, big portion sizes- a regular is certainly enough normally, but saying that, a large is a nice treat to pig out on. Nice sauce, well cooked chicken (I've only had it once where the chicken was a little overdone, that's out of around 25-30 visits in the last 6 months!) Probably not the best for the waistline, but great for a happiness boost!

Visited on Monday 24th and had salmon sushi rolls. Felt increasingly ill with cramps, vomiting and headaches and 24 hours later still ill. Hygiene needs fixing - avoid.

Recommend this as a takeaway place rather than a eat in place although, it is nice to eat outside if the weather is good and I can definitely recommend the Katsu curry. It is similar to wagamamas but much larger portions and cheaper however can sometimes be a bit heavy. The sushi served here is quite good quality from my experience but popular sushi often sells out quickly. The service is quite good but at busier times, the servers pressurise you to choose your meal as quickly as possible. Beware! - I have or other people I know have been unknowingly overcharged (4+ times) by a decent amount, so watch out for this.

My two favourites are the katsu curry and the sweet chilli chicken, both with rice. Now they've opened up another restaurant in Guildford Friary the queues are no longer half way down the high street, a welcome relief!Super quality food at excellent prices, Kokoro has everything going for it. If you're cheeky you can say to the person serving you "ahhh go on add a little more!" and they'll oblige with a grin. Customer service and top quality food go hand in hand there.

A truly stunning Katsu curry. Share a large between two people. It's so nice man. Ask for Extra sauce if you like it saucy

I do have a soft spot for a good old kokoro. Love the chicken curry and the portion sizes are always worth the price. The fresh sushi is very good as well. Deffo will be back there again.

This was the very first restaurant I tried when I just moved into Guildford. It has been three years and it is still my favourite whenever I miss Japanese food. During my last visit, the service was fairly quick. The hot food they serve was absolutely delicious, especially the sweet chili chicken and chicken katsu with curry sauce.

I used to live in Guildford a while ago and always used to come here as a treat.Today's experience unfortunately was a bit disappointing especially since I've been looking forward coming here. I got the Sweet Chilly Chicken and it was over done and dry.I'll still come here next time as this place actually means a lot to me but please take care of your dishes guys. You can do it!

Kokoro has now become an established chain in Surrey. I have been at both their Guildford and Camberley branches. Nice Chinese food to have while on the move. I am usually having the Chicken katsu with rice. Good portion for reasonable price with plenty of chicken not just rice. Overall a good option for a quick bite.

The people who usually served the food demanded customers to have a prompt choice, if you are not a regular and doesn't know what you want or can't answer on time, they will give you a hard time - and forced you to be a quick decision maker of your next meal - what to have. I disliked the way how they served customers. Anyhow I went for sweet and sour chicken, the woman who served me immediately assumed that I would go for a large choice, then I said can I have a small or medium option then she gave me a look, then changed the tub. When I opened it at home, I realised it was only a half portion in a small tub which was not enough to serve for a meal. But if she did not gave me half a portion and just a normal full small portion then it will be good for me. So does it mean next time I have to order a large portion just to have a medium size? Anyway, I decided not to go back again due to the poor service that I had and the quality of the food is dropping. It must contain msg, gluten and all the unwanted typical fast food stuff in it so it is not a healthy option anyway. I think people should not go for such option for health reason.

My daughter brought me home a takeaway one day and I could not believe the size of the portion, it was chicken katzu and it has so much tasty sauce on it and it was truly scrumptious.She usually buys the All salmon sushi love set. I have since bought the Chicken Katsu again and have not sat in to eat but only had it as a take out option. Every time I have been there or even just walked past there seems to be a queue outside to buy food. This is a very positive sign and they must be doing something correct.I would highly recommend giving it a try and I am sure you will be happy too.

I return to Kokoro time and time again- the smell is often what lures me in as it wafts up North street. It is not uncommon either, for me to see someone else with a Kokoro takeaway bag and develop a sudden crippling craving for my favourite dish (chicken katsu &rice of course)! I have also tried other dishes and they are consistently good- the sushi is always fresh and delicious and the spicy chicken curry (i think its called that?!) is also very nice. Sometimes you do have to wait a bit to be served as it is always so popular (especially around lunch and early dinner time), though its definitely worth the wait and service is always with a smile. I recommend Kokoro emphatically to every foodie, peckish commuter and hungry Guildford shopper- give it a try- i'm sure you won't regret it!

Usually when restaurants get busy and popular among people, their customer service and price would get worse and irresponsible. Kokoro is definitely a special case doesn't work in this way! I have been here many times since i live in centre of Guildford. As usual i walked into store and ask for my meal. There was couple of people waiting and one of the male staff wearing glasses was ready to serve me then another staff came from kitchen and asked him to get ready another delivery meal. He kept apologising to me serval times. After that he started to serve me and said again-sorry about the wait. You look tired? ( yes i was coz a long day for me) after that I surprisingly saw him put three special kinds of katsu in my food( I didn't order and no extra pay). Definitely a really warm-hearted day for me!!

I always go for the Chicken Katsu, never disappoints! Queues literally out the door, but quick service. However the many times I've gone there, the portion size does differ.

Food is delicious but the last 3 times I've been they've sold out of the only dish I get - spicy pork. Not even near the time they close either so a bit frustrating

I'm a regular here and go at least 3 times a week. However, I realised that the portion size has gone down. The rice portion isn't much and they used to put a lot of katsu chicken.The staff aren't so friendly anymore either.I would say they lost the magic touch.

I've just visited kokoro as I fancied something hot and warming.dissapointed to say the least. The food was thrown into the carton very quickly with no thought of amounts going in, they used to serve with passion, honesty and care. No fork or paper serviette put into bag. This maybe just an off day for them as it was busy at around 1pm lunchtime. When I got to eat the food of which there wasn't much after paying nearly seven pounds it was fair to say the chicken, and noodles were both cold. Come on kokoro breath some passion back into your service. Just because you're busy it shouldn't let your standards slip.dissapointing.

Needed to grab something quick to takeaway so had a mixed sushi platter. Sushi quality was really good and the portion size, for £7, was great. The hot food smelt amazing so would definitely try that next time.

The food is of a consistently high standard. The venue is what you would expect of a take away, but it is a pleasant experience with friendly staff and adequate facilities if you're inclined to eat there.

Lovely food and really quick service, lots to chose from and regular starts at around a fiver which is the same as MacDonalds only a lot healthier I had the katsu curry chicken with rice (noodles are available instead if you want) and it was delicious. If you like Japanese food but don't want to sit down like wagamamas then this is the place to go, seating is very limited inside but they have opened another branch in the friary Centre too

Tasty food, never a long wait and pretty fresh, even at busy lunch times. Great sushi, miso and gyoza on the run! Just a few seats outside the small shop in the town, but plenty at the newly opened version in the shopping centre. Keep it up, guys! What would my daughter do at lunch times without you! Great prices - value for money.

I've been addicted to its sweet and spicy/chilly chicken with rice. Glad to also found they open new branch in the foodcourt at Friary Shopping Center which is great so I dont need a takeaway. Price is affordable as well!

There always seems to be a queue here but even so the queue disappeared very quickly = the service is so fast.Make your mind up in advance as the staff are so busy they have no time to advise you.Reasonable quality and good quantities of food. It is good to know that so many Asians enjoy the food - so it must be pretty authentic.

Bit of a queue at times but this reflects the popularity of the restaurant. Moreover the food is always delicious, warm and filing. Also there is a great selection of drinks and other lovely sushi boxes amongst other things

A fast pace, almost always busy environment. Be sure to try and your lunch early as the line can go beyond the entrance. The chilled selection of sushi, sashimi, salads and drinks are fresh, delicious and reasonably priced. Catering more in salmon sushi boxes, but with vegetarian options also. Alternatively there is the hot section. Complete with the infamous katsu and teriyaki. Kokoro is a fabulous fusion of Korean and Japanese, tasty and you're able to mix and match between dishes.

I really love Kokoro's cuisine and always come back to it. The portions are filling and food is really delicious. There are also many dishes to choose from and all being delicious makes choosing what to eat really difficult.

Good food great portion size but would suggest that the rice is placed on a layer of food then another layer no top as have to dig through all the meat to get to the rice

This is a small takeaway place offering delicious Asian food at acceptable prices. It is always absolutely rammed at lunches and provides a fast service. The food is always cooked to perfection and is priced similarly to other lunch options in Guildford.

The teriyaki salmon and the sushi is delicious here! Fave place to pick up lunch in town on my lunch break.

Before going in, check out the back kitchen door and doorstep. They were filthy today. Perhaps the inspectors in Guildford should visit Specsavers.

Given the wide choice of different fast food options available in Guildford , this place takes some beating.I have eaten here often. For £5, chilli chicken in rice, in large amounts. More than most people would normally eat.There is always a queue but you get served in minutes tops, the popularity tells you it's good.Outside seating as well. Give it a try.

Always a queue out the door.Not a huge menu, but good for a hot takeaway. Japanese takeaway - they also have sushi in the fridges. You get a bowl of noodles or rice and a choice of dishes including vegetarian. Different sizes. Teryaki Chicken and beef stew usually nice. Chicken Katsu overdone this time unfortunately. Husband likes chilli chicken.Seating is some outside and bench/bar stools inside but can get very crowded as it is popular. Not the biggest place either.

This place provides the best lunch you can buy in town . It's always busy and it's worth the wait .. highly recommend the katsu ... it's banging .

The queues for Kokoro have always been well outside the door whenever I've been in town so I decided to find out why when it was quiet late one Saturday afternoon.I guess its popular because they offer tasty food and healthy portions at reasonable prices. Simple! And delicious. Highly recommended.

Go here frequently and there is a reason there is always a queue out the door! The sushi is delicious and the chicken katsu curry is true to the Japanese taste. The other hot dishes are more Korean style but are also very tasty. I wouldn't recommend eating in as it gets incredibly busy at lunchtime and feels very cramped, although they also have a few outside seats which are better. Staff are quick and efficient and the queue moves quickly.

I have been buying takeaway meals from Kokoro for a few years now, and so far they've all been great. The salmon teriyaki is off-the-scale wonderful, as are all the other choices. Definitely worth checking out for sushi, bento and other hot food choices - highly recommended.

Kokoro is our favourite Japanese place. Always busy in Guildford but that doesn't put as off. Their sushi and Katsu are the best.

Central Guildford has plenty of options for food. But Kokoro is one of the best. I don't like queues, but the food at Kokoros makes it worth it. My partner and I had chicken teriyaki. It was excellent. Very good portions and very good value for money. Definitely worth a try.
