I get that they pride themselves on chilli-spiciness... but if you don't like spice, the rest of the food just didn't taste of much. I wanted to like it, but it just wasn't there, for me. Sorry

Firstly, the food was absolutely fabulous. It was one of the best massaman currys we've ever had. The chicken satay was perfect. My wife suffers with coeliac disease and not only were gluten free dishes clearly highlighted on the menu the waiting staff were so helpful with helping to choose food that was gluten free. The staff without exception were all so friendly and helpful, the restaurant had a lovely ambience and was clearly incredibly popular. The minor criticism was that the table was booked for 7pm, we had our starters by 7:20pm but the main course did not arrive until about 08:10pm. However, overall a wonderful meal.

Food is acceptable, but truly not worth the price. Dishes are pretty small compared for the price. Tapas size dishes, but not tapas prices! Staff were OK, nothing more. Wouldn't go back.

Had such a lovely dinner. The food was authentic and beautifully spiced to our request. Brooke our waitress was attentive and able to help with choosing the spice level that would suit us. Great ambience. Would definitely recommend.

The spicy chicken rice and Thainamite prawns are my favorite dishes. The place has an upscale dining atmosphere, and the food is outstanding! I've been here several times and will definitely keep coming back.

I had a really fun and tasty meal at Koh Thai this weekend. Cocktails were delicious, service was friendly although a teeny bit chaotic (the wrong dish was brought out and empty glasses not taken from the table when other items were cleared away) and I really wish they had Thai desserts like mango sticky rice (rather than a sticky toffee pudding which felt a bit incongruous on the Thai menu). The food I did eat was all very good though. Generous portions - lots of veggie options. Great aubergine bao buns and nasi goreng - I asked for extra spice and they delivered! A relaxed and tasty meal.

The service here was amazing! We felt comfortable enough to ask loads of questions about the food & cocktails, as well as ask for recommendations. The lady who served us was so meticulous about allergies as one person in our group has a nut allergy - so it was great to feel safe when tucking in to the food and drink. The portions were great, the food was fresh and tasty. Definitely will be back to try other things on the menu. We had quite a few cocktails so the bill was quite high, but without those, the menu is super affordable.

This spot has a wide variety of delicious food. The service team are incredible - they are so attentive and speedy. I would highly recommend for any couples on a romantic night out, or a group of friends who wish to catch up with good food and a warm environment. Georgina made our trip especially lovely, and the care for allergies is clear to see.

One of highly recommended Thai restaurants in Portsmouth. Our favorite dishes are Thainamite prawns, Tamarind duck, Crispy Seabass and Steak Thai styles

I’ve been to Koh Thai in both the Port Solent & Portsmouth branch on multiple occasions and have to say, I’ve never had a disappointing time. Cocktails are very good and so is the food! Traditional Thai flavours and executed very well. Over the years I’ve now tried the majority of their menu and not a single dish has let me down. Also, the service and staff are great and have previously let us know there’s been a wait in the past in case of a busy restaurant which has also been met with grace. Truly great service and food. This is certainly our regular place to go for Thai. Highly recommend!

Travelled over from the Isle of Wight for a "Date Night" with my Fiancee. I wish we had stayed local and not spent the money on the Hovercraft to Portsmouth! Probably one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had. I need to say that the waiting staff were fine but the kitchen was clearly in disarray! 40mins after arriving on time for our booking we still hadn't eaten! We had to leave to get back to the Isle of Wight so didn't eat. What a shambles. In a nutshell this was unacceptable and I would advise anyone considering eating here to reconsider. If our experience is anything to go by, they don't deserve anyones custom. The story is much longer than this but won't bother as they probably couldn't care less!

Second visit in a week first for tapas today for curry both amazing food lovely ambience

Went for some light late food and some more drinks. Just had a range of starters, which were all decent enough, but nothing particularly flavourful. Some nice crunchy texture on the crispy beef, which had more of a shell of batter than a coating. Service was a little chaotic and not exactly attentive but we got drinks and food well enough so no complaints. The old high-ceiling bank vibe makes for a little sparse and cold atmosphere, but also still fine once you’re talking with companions and stop noticing, Overall, it’s fine.

My Deliveroo order arrived promptly but missing my ribs order. I called the restaurant and they were genuinely apologetic & admitted my ribs were still sitting in the kitchen! Their solution was to deliver the missing dish by hand. 5 minutes later It was delivered to my door - fantastic service. The food was delicious - especially the hand-delivered ribs!

Great restaurant. The atmosphere is relaxed and has an exotic feelong. The food is scrumptious and the coctails delicious. Highly recomend for fulk. Meals or smaller dishes to share over a drink.

Can’t fault this place. A relatively quiet Monday evening for dinner but great service, great food and great atmosphere. None of us could decide on a single starter so we each ordered two each. As well as a main. Really authentic food. Delicious. Would definitely recommend!

Couldn't fault the food in fact it was lovely. Staff OK. The whole evening spoilt by completely inappropriate Ibiza style dance music. The staff tried their best to change it but apparently its directed from head office. What a shame. I feel sorry for the kitchen staff who produced excellent food. Ruined by management dictat on inappropriate music. What a shame. We won't be back

Take away on a Friday night, gone very very wrong, dragon ribs, burnt dosent cover it they were black, I am a chef and never seen anything that black. Belly pork dry and crusty but fat still wobbly, I'm guessing been left in a merrychef (industrial microwave) way to long. I really am in shock that some chef sent this out....to be honest you can't call them a chef. If one of my team sent this out I'd send them home.

Food was ok. Service from the waiters was standard. They add a service charge that isn't mandatory, so beware of the final bill, if you don't want to pay it. Unfortunately the manager asked us to leave as they had people waiting for tables, not a problem if there wasn't any tables free...but we walked past several that were prepared and only one couple waiting. If we had chance, we wouldn't have paid the service charge for such a rude thing to ask. We weren't even in there for more than an hour and a half.

When here with my girlfriend on Friday evening, the food was very good and the menu had lots to choose from. The service was good aswell with friendly helpful staff. Overall I would recommend this place and I would return.

Great curry, served in 5 minutes!

The service today was brilliant, the food was delicious and the mocktails👌🏿👌🏿. All 4 of us ordered a different starter and meal and ALL was very nice, the portions were very good. The staff were warm and welcoming😊😊

Short review: Service was poor, drinks were late, waiters are rushed/don't communicate, food was mediocre at best. Poor. Had a table booked for Saturday evening at 7, however it was past 7.15 before we sat down. We weren't able to order drinks at the bar whilst we were waiting and the lack of communication was poor when we arrived. We had a wrong meal served , drinks took forever to come and a waiter (accidentally) dropped half a curry on my lap. Thank goodness it was luke warm and not scolding! Nothing against the waiter, as they were really apologetic. However, the manager then questioned why we didn't pay the service charge for the 8 of us. I think some communication between the staff members should be better, as the manager did not have any idea how bad our experience was.

Not a good experience. Arrived on Saturday for a reserved table. Was a good five minutes before anyone acknowledged us stood at the door. By the time they did, they said they'd be with us soon. Another few mins later they told us the table that arrived before us was still finishing up, so we went and stood at the bar. Standing at the bar it was another 5 minutes to even be acknowledged by anyone before taking our orders for our drinks. Once we eventually got sat down, a good fifteen minutes after our pre-booked time, which the restaurant had previously made point about us being on time for, we ordered more drinks. My wife's wine was left at the bar next to other customers for ten minutes while the rest of us got served. It's not the safest practice knowing how easy it is for drinks left at the bar like that to get spiked. It was in easy reach of Just-Eat/Uber Eats drivers as well as customers sat at the bar. Starter was nice, but lukewarm. Enjoyed my main meal, but someone on our table got served the wrong meal. Overall I probably wouldn't bother returning. The experience was pretty poor with everything considered.

Disappointing first experience of Thai food delivered to home Tempura veg starter was sloppy and tasteless and mostly void of batter, Aubergine Buns were tasty though, very nice. Prawn Pad Thai was ok but glutenous, little fresh veg, couldnt eat it all. Very unappealing visually. Beef and cashew nut stir fry inedible due to far too much salt in the dish. Both of us tried it, it was ridiculously salty. Poor eating experience. It arrived on time though. We thought it was far too expensive £50.00 for traditionally inexpensive Thai street food.

Wow what can I say, food is amazing very tasty and reasonable priced, with very friendly staff. I worked in Thailand in 2018 and from tasting the food and flavours it took me straight back to there. So thank you for reignited the memories and flavours of Thailand. Would highly recommend a must visit.

Lovely food and drinks. Very impressed with the cocktails, made with love and care and everyone I tried ( which was way more than I should have) was delicious. Service was also great, very attentive staff but not over the top. Very enjoyable evening.

Came here few weeks ago for a friend's birthday and it was extremely underwhelming. Food was average at best, especially for the price. The restaurant was half full and the service was really poor. Felt like majority of the staff were not trained properly and didn't really care.

My mum and I went out for a nice family dinner and our waiter, Oli, was an absolute star. He really made us feel welcome and looked after. We appreciated the hospitality and its people like this that really help a night go smoothly. We will be coming back again.

Visited at 7.30pm on a Sunday. One now to avoid, used to be a great place to eat and now fallen off massively. Waited too long for drinks, when they finally came 2 drinks were missing. Reordered them and they took even longer than the originals to come. 1 of those 2 was also missing again. Food was OK but have had better food at Koh Thai previous. We were hurried out as bar was closing and chased in too, we had a phone call at 7.15pm to ask where we were even though our booking was at 7.30pm. The waitress couldn’t believe I asked for the service charge to be removed off of the bill due to the level of service. I always tip for service but it was so below par it did not warrant anything. She rolled her eyes and asked why I didn’t want to pay it. I thought it would’ve been pretty evident given the level of service. One now to avoid, other great Thai Restaurants just around the corner in Southsea too.

Visited this restaurant Sunday 3rd at 8pm. Only 2 other tables in there at the time, Ordered food and drinks, Food arrived after 35 mins but still no drinks, Asked the waitress who said she would chase up. 10 mins later still no drinks she said because i ordered a cocktail there is only 1 person to make them, she could only do beers and soft drinks. I said when we ordered out food and drink there was virtually no one in here , now its busier and everyone had their drinks other then myself and my partner. Waited another 10 mins (so 50 mins later) still no drinks and food was nearly finished. Spoke to the lady pouring drinks behind the bar on this occasion. Extremely disappointed in the service especially when receiving an eye roll from the staff because i told them service wasnt good enough. Not even a free drink in the end. Very disappointed, maybe you need to appoint new kind and caring staff as food was amazing, they have let this place down.

Poor… Tasteless, not as good as last time I went Couldn’t eat it Tempura veg .. no batter Noodles tough pork, two pieces of tofu, two prawns had to leave it Katsu curry was pretty disappointing Service was not so good new staff I think.

One the best Thai ever (and definitely in Portsmouth!) . My aubergine curry was just amazing and cocktails are great too. Service was friendly, maybe a bit disorganised but did not mind it. Great setting as well. Reasonable prices !

We went to Portsmouth for shopping today. We are fan of Thai food, we haven’t had it for sometime. Today we were very hungry after lots of time spent in shopping, didn’t even had lunch. We decided to go for early dinner and found good reviews for this place. We reserved seats though when we reached we found enough empty spaces were there. Staffs were friendly and didn’t take much time for serving us. Seeing Google reviews, we had high hope for food. chicken red thai curry was good, but chicken satay and pad thai were only okay. Chicken satay sauce having large size peanuts and little sweeter. Pad Thai was bland, more sweeter side. Road side free parking after 6 pm helpful to park nearby the restaurant.

Lovely lighting but very noisy ( we sat upstairs). Nice curries despite the beef being really tough and chewy. The Tom yum soup seemed to be from a packet and tasted a bit soapy. Overall, the staff were lovely and very helpful.

Great food and service. Had a great meal here - top notch. Our server Olli was very friendly and gave us great service. The starters and the Thai Red curry was fantastic. Will definitely go back!

Service was not good. Food was thrown in front of us. The staff really didn't look like they wanted to be there. Found a black hair in my main course and when we got the bill the device charge was included. Didn't get a choice whether to pay a tip. Will not be going back again. Plenty of other good Thai food places in Southsea.

Defiantly not up to it's usual fine standards ,waited a while to be seated as there was only one person front of house who was also making drinks, taking orders and serving food. We ordered prawn crackers to nibble on whist we were looking at the menu, these turned up with our mains. I ordered a King pawn curry what arrived was a chicken curry but worst off all some of the dishes arrived warm/cold The waitress was pleasant enough but she was rushed off her feet trying to do everything I hope this disappointing visit was just a blip as we have enjoyed many a good meal at Kho Thai

Having never visited Portsmouth before we didn't know where to get dinner whilst visiting for my wife's work. Good ol' Trip Advisor drew this place to our attention, and boy are we glad it did! Service was friendly but attentive. Good knowledge of what was gluten free for my coeliac wife. All 4 dishes we had were outstanding. I particularly recommend the satay (perfectly cooked chicken) and the penang (such depth of flavour).. I doubt anything would disappoint to be honest. A casual but smart interior in a quirky building added to the ambience, and the prices were reasonable. Oh, and if you've got a bit of space at the end of your meal, try the triple chocolate martini - you'll thank me! I'm just hoping we need to go back to Portsmouth again soon....

We were visiting Portsmouth for our wedding anniversary and looked for somewhere to eat close to our hotel. This restaurant had good reviews and we weren’t disappointed. Staff were friendly and food was really good. Food was fresh, tasty and piping hot. Loved the spicy crackers so much we had two lots 😊 Would definitely return if we were back in Southsea

Recently I have been to Koh Thai in Port Solent and this one. What has happened to the food !! We won’t be going again in a hurry. There are too many lovely restaurants to have to accept adequate

Not pleased with the quality of the food, both prawn crackers and my girlfriends rice had someone's black hair in it, we are both fair haired, and my chicken was pink inside. Would have made a complaint inside but the staff who I told didn't seem interested. Would recommend investing in hair nets for those in the kitchen.

Really good food, good service, recommended!

The food was very good and was the service. But what let it down for is how long it took for the kitchen to actually produce the food. From when the server took our orders and when we actually received our starters was over 45 minutes. It shouldn't take that long to deep fry some veggie spring rolls. The poor server spaced out our drinks so we wouldn't drink everything before the food arrived. When the food actually arrived it was very good. As well, for a while she was the only staff member visible - she performed the Hostess role, bartender role and waitress role. Don't know if there was new kitchen staff or there was a staff shortage, but we finished eating 2hrs after arriving. It shouldn't take so long.

Fast efficient and delicious food. Arrived with half an hour to spare before a gig at the guildhall. The staff understood the situation and fitted us in. The food was hot, delicious and we were out in time. Thanks everyone.

Went on Saturday the food is very salty. Specially the fish and had diarrhoea the next day. The waitress don’t bother when we mention the food was salty. Not going there again.

Amazing food everytime we go , great atmosphere too

We came in at 6pm for food and it was brilliant from start to finish. We were greeted with a friendly welcome and shown to a nice table. We were served by Elodie and Gina who were both amazing; great chat, friendly service, attentive service, nothing too much of a problem. The food was delicious (I am unsure who the chef is but thank you) and the plates, cutlery and glasses were clean (I am unsure who washed up)! It was a lovely meal and experience and a breath of fresh air when eating out can be quite unpredictable. Thank you.

An old favourite of ours, set in an old bank building. Always heaving and always noisy, and the atmosphere is as much a part of the experience as the meal. Upstairs on the balcony is quieter. This Thai restaurant is perhaps more spicy than others - comparing like for like, but for us this is an attraction. They are happy to dial down the spice on request. This restaurant is lightning fast with the service and with easy street parking nearby would be a good option for eating before getting on a ferry.
