The food is tasty, the price is a little high but it is worth it, it is not suitable for eating in but suitable for takeaway

Not a great experience of De garden delivery. Delivery turned up later than planned. It turned out to be the wrong order, but I had opened some of the packages. Driver later turned up after speaking with the restaurant to collect the delivery. I asked when my order would be ready, to which the restaurant said “soon”. Unfortunately the restaurant closed without completing my order. Wasted a few hours waiting for their food which never arrived. Quite unprofessional, and I can’t imagine they can re deliver an order that has already been opened, but seemingly they do. Disappointing as I have eaten in the restaurant before a while back and it was very good.

Very tight on the meat. Ordered beef curry and found about 2 bits in it! Might aswell of Ordered curry sauce and fried rice

So I have always had the curtsy of ordering Chinese food from the Da Garden for just about six months for which I become a valid and known customer when I call in to make my order until one day things changed. One Saturday I call the business line to make my regular order to the owners which I had a little twist rather than me coming to pick up or they delivering to my address I told them I’ll send an Uber to pick up for which I they then said that they will need more time to prepare as they were very busy that Saturday evening. I said ok, and I’ll asked how long it will take to prepare my order, I was told say about 30 minutes there about. I call back about 40 mins later I was told it’s almost done and in 15 mins more…. I said ok kool. After an extra 15 mins I called and I was told it’s ready for pick up, I then spoke to the Asian lady and told her an Uber driver will come and collect she said ok. It was picked up and delivered to my address of work as I requested, on arrival of my order i realized it was the same as to what I normally gets I then dive in and realize even more that the tastes was a bit off as i order spare ribs on Barbara sauce and chicken chow-min…. I immediately rang them back an expressed my dissatisfaction and was told sorry but it was due to a change of the type of Barbara sauce as they tried a new one also i informed them that the chow-min was under cooked and I can’t eat hay was sent. The guy who perhaps cooked the meal then agreed to refund me and apologized. About a few days later I requested I rang them and tried to place my order again then only to be told that they aren’t doing anymore business with me as i called in and told them how I was dissatisfied with the food they sent so they aren’t doing anymore business with me. Now people tell me is this right? Anyways I found a better Chinese takeaway that offer better food and better customer service not to far from theres in Northend.

Ordered a selection of meals (11 or 12) for a family gathering. Food was absolutely outstanding especially the king prawn in black pepper sauce although to be fair there wasn't a bad item amongst the lot (chicken balls, various chow meins and rices to name a few). Ordered over the phone and was ready for collection in 20 minutes including a couple of freebies. Lady who served me over the phone and when I arrived was very pleasant and friendly. Will definitely use this takeaway again. Just a couple of points of note: doesn't open until 15:00 (not 13:00 as stated on website) and don't do deliveries until after 16:30.

Orded from here 3 times. 1st time was great, 2nd time took two hours to deliver food was ok, ordered a 3rd time took just over 2 and half hours later terrible won't do it again. I'll go elsewhere.

Decent food and decent prices but spent over 20 pound and never got the free veg spring rolls as says on the menu so star off for that otherwise was decent

I had a takeaway through Deliveroo, oh...my...goodness, it's the best chicken fried rice with curry sauce I've had in the over 30 years I've been in Pompey!! The vegetable spring rolls and banana fritters were also 5 stars, I must admit Apple fritters are my favourite, but they're difficult to get, I wish I knew why! This is now my go to takeaway.

Used to be good until it changed ownership and now the orders are wrong or the quality not up to oar.

New ownership.... we used to go here alot but it went down hill... New owners have made the world of difference. Food is absolutely amazing.

Went in and were greeted and handed a menu straight away, the lady was so lovely, smile on her face, we sat and decided on what to have, so many options! The food was flavourful, fresh, succulent and all round delicious. We got our food super quickly and couldn’t wait to get home and eat, and it did not disappoint! We live just around the corner and have just discovered this little gem! Made sure to keep the menu, Will be coming here more often! We already cannot wait for our next one!

Delivery on time & meal was beautiful I had the spare ribs really tasty all meat that fell off the bone & a house special chow mein that was lush thank you de garden I’ll keep coming back xxx

Still doesn’t know how to cook chicken balls. The batter is supposed to be crispy guys. The house chow mein was ok. At least it wasn’t over salty like the last time.

First time, the Aromatic Duck was sublime.

Still waiting for the wrong delivery to be collected. Very abusive on the phone when contacted to say we hadn't received what we ordered. Charged £45.40 for what we hadn't ordered and was told they didn't give refunds!!! and was told we were now banned??? Don't worry De Garden we won't want to order again. Please can I have my money refunded?

Great food, abit light on the Pork in the Chow Mein though, pretty stingy for £5.80.....

Ordered yesterday for myself and my 22 yr old son who can eat just about anything.... but we couldn't eat any of it as it was so salty that after a couple of mouthfuls it actually burnt the back of your throat. We had 5 dishes of sides and mains and all were completely inedible..... I will never order from here again!

Singapore chow mein was mixed meat and haf a terrible taste/flavour almost as if it had been re heated several times and as for mixed meat there was one tiny prawn. Spring rolls came with nothing and they were tiny. If i do not get food poisoning i will be surprised. Never again

Waited 2 hours and 20mins then started to chase it up when I got through got told another 45 mins what a joke over 3hours for a dilivery will never us them again what a joke . Its not the 1st time it's happen either. There's plenty of good Chineses out there avoid these if possible

Amazing food so mouth watering.... The best Malaysian chinese food in the whole of the UK. Value for money and a huge portion. It is a must visit restaurant when in Portsmouth.

We and a few friends went here a few days ago. And the food was amazing! I would really Recommend this place!

Been a while since we dined out in the restaurant and yet again, we enjoyed the most delicious Chinese ever. All the food was piping hot, freshly cooked and full of flavour and service was fabulous as usual.

We have been ordering from this restaurant since we moved to Portsmouth a few years ago..beautiful, tasty and authentic food!

Think this is one of the few reviews I've left on trip advisor but where we were flat out refused a refund so thought I'd better. Ordered a beef and pork curry, with chips, egg fried rice, prawn crackers and two cans of coke. Everything was fine except the sauce for the curry - it was probably the saltiest curry I've ever had - was literally inedible. (Threw it all away) Called them back as was a delivery and said we're happy to pay for everything else which in reality went in the bin anyway as I'm not just going to eat rice and chips, and asked if we could be refunded for the curry. (Which also Is nothing like a Chinese curry we'd had here or in China!!) Had a very salty smoked/sweet flavour to it which was not nice at all. When my partner called they were rude and has zero interest in making us happy. Not that I won't eat here again, I can't, the salt in the curry was just ridiculous.

Nice deep fried garlic chilli chicken, but beef chow mein was mediocre and had like no beef, and the chicken curry made me really really ill for 2 days. I believe it is because they put way way too much salt in and my head killed, couldn't look at any lights, felt really sick and I've never been so dehydrated. Don't buy there currys, be warned

Everything was awesome. Loved the noodles and the curries. Parking behind the restaurant is pretty convenient as well.

Came here with my hubby on Friday. Have had takeaway and eaten in several times previously as the food is very good, however, we didn’t enjoy our visit here. Restaurant was very cold, no atmosphere and deathly quiet, resulting in an uncomfortable experience. There used to be candles on the tables and background music but on our last two visits this have not been the case. Some easy listening music and more heating would help, especially as the restaurant can be very quiet. Our waitress was efficient and as always the restaurant was very clean. Prawns are delicious. We would have no hesitation ordering takeaway but would not return to eat in.

Had a great meal here, there are so many choices on the menu that differ from other Chinese restaurants. The only thing was it was so cold!

We have eaten in the restaurant many times but ordered a delivery tonight. Food arrived hot and was delicous. The ribs and prawn dishes are particularly nice. The lady that runs the restaurant is lovely.

Ordered Chinese takeaway for the wife and me. Our first time here from recommendations from friends. It's a shame really because the food was really nice apart from the quantity of salt in everything. Will I return? Maybe.

Highly recommended. Doesn't look like much but serves the best Chinese food i've had in ages. Ask for the Chinese version of the menu, it has some extra dishes on it that aren't on the English version...

Fuimos por recomendación de un amigo. El servicio era excelente, el menú era buena sin ser congestionado (buena opción vegetariana, así que le lleve a los niños! La comida fue muy buena y en general la relación calidad-precio excelente. Sólo había dos de nosotros en el restaurante, que era una lástima.

Usamos este restaurante para nuestra comida para llevar y la comida es deliciosa. No tenía un plato mal! . Servicio de entrega es bueno y el personal amable. sí, un poco más caro que otros para llevar local, pero vale la pena.

A restaurant runs by Malaysian (Ipoh Mari). If you crave for Malaysian cuisine, this is the place for you. People are friendly and we feel we are home in Malaysia :-)Foods are definitely authentic Malaysian flavours. No place in UK is better the De Garden so far, thumb up!

Nice to have another restaurant to enjoy Malaysian/Chinese cuisine. It is a cosy restaurant with an alternative choice of meals to usual Chinese cuisine. Good for small groups but need to call in advance for larger groups. Also need to enquire about certain meals in advance as some may need more preparation time. There isn't restaurant parking so would need to park nearby down residential roads or there is a car park nearby down Stubbington Avenue but have to pay. Overall though, lovely cosy atmosphere and enjoyed the meal.

Found a hair in the prawn crackers, before even ordering any drinks. Bit of a joke really, but didn't complain or say anything as sometimes mistakes happen. Food that followed was great and no more curly hairs were found!There is always Chinese people eating inside so you know the food must be proper!It looks like a takeaway from the outside but they do cater for Eat in swell as Takeaway and Delivery.They serve Alcohol and Beers and have a wide choice of food on the menu. Try the Chicken with Capital Sauce. Food can be delicious, if served bald.Sorry De Garden.From my one experience of eating at De Garden its a 6/10May go back if i forget about the mishap.

Just a 10 minute walk from the international ferry port (see map) you can find world class Malaysian/Chinese food. The restaurant is very small, it could be mistaken for a takeaway but don't be put off by that. Your taste buds will thank you for the visit. The food is outstanding....

Great food, not salty (a real issue for me in most Asian restaurants), friendly service and even nice house wine (also often lacking). Excellent lunch, I will be returning.

Enjoyed an excellent Char Keoh Teow and Sambal Prawn. Best outside Malaysia. Restaurant is very clean and the service friendly and impeccable.

Don't overlook this restaurant. Tucked away in North End the food at this place is great. I have tried many Chinese restaurants in Portsmouth and many are good but this one is excellent. The food is fresh and not greasy at all. The family that run it are really friendly. We were recommended this place by some friends down the street where we live and have ordered several times since. We are unlikely to go anywhere else as long as they keep doing what they are doing.

Popped in here Sunday about 1.30pm. Has the special offer of starters, mains and ice cream or coffee for excellent value. Loved the Hot and Sour soup. Would definitely return.

This was just for a takeaway. We thought we would give it a go as there are so many to choose from in Portsmouth and the reviews of this place were good. We would also rate them as very good, there were five of us and we had a meal for 4 and one extra noodles and and extra ribs. it was all lovely and we will use this place again.

So pleased my friend recommended this lovey restaurant. Food is delicious, owners very friendly and attentive. Have to work my way through the menu now!

The restaurant frontage and decor is very unassuming, but do not judge a book by it's cover. The staff are extremely friendly and the food is of the highest quality at prices more comparable to Wetherspoons than a restaurant providing equivalent quality and choice of food. You will not leave here hungry or dissatisfied.

De Garden specializes in Malaysian food which can only be described as 'supurb'! It is all cooked fresh and arrives hot, whether you eat in or have a take away.This restaurant is great and I can't recommend it highly enough 10/10!

Oh my god! I can eat Chinese Malaysian meals in Portsmouth and don't need to all the way to London for good Chinese Malaysian food. Sadly though, they don't do any Malay dishes.

Enjoyed the shrimp curry that was very mild and came with vegetables. The rice was boiled and the way its meant to be.

My hubby and I love this restaurant. We have eaten here several times and always get a really friendly welcome by the lovely lady that runs it. The restaurant is often quiet in the evening and we think this is such a shame as it deserves to be much busier. The food is excellent at reasonable prices. We recommend this restaurant whole heartedly to anyone that lives in the North End area as it is a brilliant little Chinese.

The standard of food here is excellent I was most surprised. There's a mix of Chinese Malaysian and Thai on the menu. Everything is really fresh. We caught some bass in southsea and they cooked it for us, one of the best meals I've ever had. Can't wait to go back.

Visited this restaurant tonight, 2 meals and 2 drinks (mineral water & Chinese tea) for under £30. The food was beautifully cooked and served freshly prepared, couldn't fault it. Chef and waitress very friendly and helpful. Only other customers in were a 10 person group of Chinese family. Not in an area of town often visited by tourists, but there is a public car park (pay) at rear of premises. Up side road 50yds from restaurant and turn in behind building, you have to walk back round.

For those of you who have visited malaysia, you'll find the food here pretty close to the high standards expected in Penang or indeed Kuala Lumpur. I loved the local style 'char hor fan' and the famous 'char kuay teow' . I have not tried out the 'chicken rice' yet but I'm guessing its going to be good. Also other lunchtime specials are available and evening too.Set in a convenient location with car parks nearby its worth dropping in. The owners and their staff are friendly in a comforable setting. I know I'll be using it again
