Coriander Indian Restaurant in Portsmouth

It doesn’t exist anymore. Take this off please

The real Coriander in Albert Rd did not make it through the pandemic, it has been closed for years but was a great Indian restaurant. The online CorianderSouthsea is not the same place.

I believe this restaurant is closed.

Pre-ordered an hour ahead for delivery via foodhub. 70 minutes later, 10 minutes after delivery was due, I get a notification, text and email stating they had too many orders and had to cancel mine. I can understand this maybe 10 or 15 minutes after order, especially through a 3rd party app, but 70 minutes after ordering?! And 10 minutes after the delivery was actually due?! I Completely unacceptable. Now we have to wait yet another hour for a reputable restaurant to actually do their job.

It's unclear from the website whether this restaurant is open tonight or not: and the voicemail greeting - which I think has something to say about opening - is completely muffled and inaudible. Please clarify online and re-record the phone greeting message so (potential) customers understand what is happening !

Not authentic taste. Not a great service and taste. Family wise not very friendly. Not many vegetarian options. I will not go again.

Delicious food. We’ve had lots of great evenings here. Very friendly service and tasty curries. We can’t wait to come back.

Food was OK, but for the second time in a row the food took nearly two hours to arrive. Phoned twice and each time was told that it was on its way. If you are even remotely hungry, don't bother ordering from here. I know I won't bother again!

A contender for the worst Indian food I’ve ever had, biryani smothered in the vegetable curry sauce still lacking any sort of flavour. Chicken ‘pakoras’ were just pieces of chicken in soggy bread. Mango chutney simply missing from the delivery.

I love the food here but I was so disappointed in the covid precautions, which were non existent. The waiter refused to wear his mask as he "can't breathe" and he "didn't like the visors". We pointed out it was not about him and he laughed. He said he does not have covid so it's ok. It's not ok. No one took our details so we can't be traced if someone gets covid. They took an age to take our payment as the waiter kept doing other tasks even though someone was waiting for Our table. Standards are slipping and this is so lazy in a pandemic.

El cilantro se ha convertido rápidamente en nuestra casa de curry favorita en Albert Road. Hemos estado allí muchas veces este año y nunca he tenido un curry malo. La comida siempre es deliciosa. ¡Hemos disfrutado Jeera Kata Garlic Chicken, Jalfrezi, Lamb Handi Gosht y Makhani Chicken, así como otros que no recuerdo! El servicio es amigable y BYOB es una ventaja con una cooperativa al otro lado de la calle. ¡Perfecto para una pareja o con amigos!

La comida era muy buena, fresca, sabrosa y con una buena relación calidad-precio. Poder traer su propio alcohol abarata la factura. Gracias a Dios por coop enfrente. No es el más lujoso de los restaurantes y casi nos fuimos caminando, pero me alegro de no haberlo hecho ya que la comida era realmente buena.

Booked a table for 7 but restaurant was shut so very disappointed. Phone not answered when I tried to contact them.

First time here.... but definitely coming back. The service is very friendly and welcoming. The food was fresh, tasty and looked lovely. My veggie dansak was one of the best I've had, and my mums salmon was delicious. Can't wait to come back and try more dishes.

I love this place, the food is delicious we always get a friendly hello when we arrive and ask how we've been. The staff are amazing and are a big part of why we come back again and again.

I’ve always loved Coriander for a great night out. The food is always delicious (especially the salmon), the staff make you feel welcome, the prices are really good and you can take your own wine. More recently due to lockdown restrictions, I’ve ordered takeaway from them. The service continues to be something special with prompt delivery and a friendly face arriving at the door. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant which does Southsea proud.

We got a very warm (socially-distanced) welcome from waiter Sol. The tables were well-spaced and the restaurant super-clean with hand gel available. We had Onion Bhaji which was cooked to perfection and drizzled with tomato and chilli sauces and also salmon starter I cant remember the name of but was delicious. They do a huge range of great starters including seafood ones which I haven't seen in other restaurants. For mains, we had Lamb tikka Masala, Tarka Daal with Aloo Gobi sides and basmati rice. All was cooked fresh and was delicious - not floating in oil! I am very fussy about Indian food and don't think there are that many good ones tbh. But Coriander is fantastic - don't be put off by the unassuming exterior! Just to mention again that Sol is an excellent waiter! Oh and not to forget - its BYOB!

Best Indian food in Pompey. Great customer service and really tasty food that is not greasy at all. We’ve tried them all but this is the one we keep coming back to.

Excellent quality curry, lamb so tender, lovely authentic flavours and textures. Recommend this for a take away and restaurant when it can again open as such.

Not my usual restaurant choice for Bangladeshi and Indian food but has done a great service during lock down. The meals are very good and great value. Once this Covid malarky is all over I will definitely be visiting for a sit down meal here. The ability to bring your own alcohol and with a co-op directly opposite to buy it from this makes it even more cost effective.

Just had an excellent takeaway, delivered on time. Great curry and interesting vegetarian dishes - keeps my wife happy! Will definitely use again and good value for money.

We were attending a talk at Andark just down the road from here, we wanted an Indian open early enough to not be late for the talk and convenient. All that worked, but the standard of food was an unexpected bonus, would certainly return here!

Placed an order in the afternoon for 7:40pm delivery but the food didn’t arrive until after 9. That’s understandable as things are tough right now, but a friend ordered later and got their food earlier. Also part of the order was wrong.

I am happy that I found this restaurant while browsing for authentic Indian and Mughlai dishes online. They rightly fit in to fulfill my appetite. Must recommended to everyone who will love to have a taste of Indian food.

It does not look very impressive from the outside or inside, but the food was very good and tasted great, staff were friendly and you get to take your own drink, people in the restraunt were drinking anything they brought in ( great idea ).Would recomend this place for sure.

I was amazed by the tasty butter chicken. The sensation that it left on my tongue reminded me of my homeland in the middle of the UK. Will come back here again.

Restaurant ambiance gives you a feel good experience. Food taste is awesome. Service is really very gentle and warm welcoming. Though the items are slightly pricey, the food taste and quality makes worth it.

Dined here yesterday. The service was fantastic with friendly staff who wanted us to enjoy our food. The food was fantastic and they even adapted food for a dairy intolerant friend. Fantastic all round and the best curry we have had in a long time!

My Indian restaurant of choice in Albert Road, Southsea. Great food, love the Lamb speciality dishes. Tonight took family, table for 7, great food, great value. Even bumped into some old friends so not just my restaurant of choice. Will be back soon. Mr L

First time there last Monday and had a good time. The food was very tasty and well presented. There is a Co-op just across the road to buy any alcohol, but they sold Beck's Blue, which I had. I asked for a doggy bag and promptly forgot it, so rang them up later and they put it aside and said they would cook up something nice to go with it when I collected it. l went on Wednesday evening and, true to their word, I got my doggy bag and a freshly cooked vegetable bhuna thrown in for free!

The staff here are always kind and attentive, the lamb and seafood dishes here are always fresh and super tasty! Bring your own booze as well!

We are loyal Coriander customers and have ordered there for some years. But this meal was a real disappointment, firstly the restaurant did not include the free Bombay Aloo, but worse the food although delivered on time was stone cold and not to the standard we had come to expect. When I phoned the restaurant the guy on the end of the phone was very rude and even shouted at me. Not happy

Went for the sunday buffet as a group of 4. Plenty of choice of dishes on the buffet which were regularly being topped up, and all delicious. Tried some dishes I wouldn't necessarily have ordered and found I enjoyed them. Great way to try something different. And what can I say about the Naan bread, perfect! Well done Coriander! We will be back.

The food was brilliant and the staff was very friendly. We ordered the handi ghost. It was one of the best curry I’ve had in a while. It was recommended by Mij.

Had a lamb bhuna with garlic rice and peshawar naan, was delicious. Naan was super light and flavoursome, the best. Polite staff also, would definitely recommend!

Booked for a party of 18. The meal was lovely and the manager and staff were all very attentive. Agreed a set price menu in advance which, along with BYOB, worked out extremely well for a large group. Highly recommended.

We go here quite often as Coriander have very quickly become a favourite. The food is fantastic, with some really interesting specialties on offer, but more importantly the staff are incredibly lovely - it's always nice to see them :)

Had our anniversary meal here 16/01 and the meal was lovely. Naan bread is simply the best. My partner wanted chunky onions with his chicken tikka and this was readily done. Service is great and the staff are really friendly

We had a fantastic meal at Coriander. The staff were friendly and welcoming and offered us to BYOB which was appreciated. The food was delicious- we started with poppdoms and then had three different curries. I enjoyed my lamb and spinach curry, it had great flavours and went well with the naans which were perfect- a garlic and a peshwari. We will definitely be back.

Quality cuisine. Delicious and authentic every time. Truly a cut above the rest. Perfectly balanced spices without excess, salt, fat or sugar. The restaurant is also excellent.

We went for a meal on a Saturday evening, two couples and a two year old. We were a little worried that as it was Saturday night we would be frowned upon for having a two year old with us. We were wrong, made to feel very welcome, nothing was to much. We were celebrating a birthday and the food and service was lovely. Thanks you.

I asked The Coriander if they could deliver a Take Away for 9 people on a Sunday at lunchtime . It was quite last minute after Christmas. The owner and Chef was so kind and very patient with my order. My family love Indian food and some are quite particular. It all arrived hot and was totally delicious. My other half endeavours to find the perfect chicken vindaloo and unusually for him said this was the best so far and we’d be going back. All the sides, chutneys and mains were so juicy and fresh. What made it even better was how lovely the staff and owner were. You could taste their kindness! I don’t usually write a review for anything. I have relied on them for so many of my choices. I thought The Coriander has it all, good price, loverly service and the food was wonderful. Grumpy attitudes have often put me off going back to a place. I went to the restaurant the following day to say thank you and noticed that the place was busy with regulars as it had been when I placed my order. That’s a good sign. Loyalty! Thank you so much. Simply the best in Portsmouth . Great diverse menu choices. Bring your own booze. Friendliest staff too. Highly recommended

Wonderful visit meeting up with some friends when we were all home for Christmas. Service was great, all the dishes we tried were spot on. Very reasonable prices, and BYO wine.
