Delicious Sri Lankan cuisine served in a sleek, modern setting. The food is well-flavored, with standout dishes including the Kothu Roti, Lamb Lamprais, and Black Short Rib Curry. The hoppers are also fantastic. While the staff were generally friendly and helpful with recommendations, they did feel a bit pushy with the ordering process.

So delighted that an authentic Sri Lankan restaurant has opened near me!! Food was delicious and Chef Vasant came personally to the table to ask what I thought of it. Definitely give it a try - the mix of sweet and savory is really terrific!

The staff is very nice. However the Sri Lankan fare here is not very Sri Lankan and doesn’t taste anything close to it. Their South Indian food is good. But if you want to taste Sri Lankan fare I would recommend Sigiri or Staten island Sri Lankan food. Mutton rolls here are prob the only thing that taste good close to Sri Lankan. Being Sri Lankan , I will def not recommend this as authentic Sri Lankan it’s more of a South Indian influenced Sri Lankan ( hopper/egg hopper is extra large, their strong hopper is not the thin string hopper ). The parata is very good. 2 stars because of the food else it’s a nice ambiance and nice staff

A new hidden gem that I think will become more popular particularly because we don’t have as much South Indian and Sri Lankan spots in Manhattan. Loved the hoppers, duck chettinad, Kerala beef chukka, and prawn curry. The service was not super fast and a little chaotic lol but our server was friendly and the food made it worth it!

We booked a table for dinner via OpenTable and trekked up here excited to try the place. We had been contacted to confirm that we were still coming. I had a relative visiting who wanted to try Sri Lankan food. We showed up and it was closed. No explanation or anyone to contact. Do not trust these charlatans

Manager Satish and his team were such a joy and breath of fresh air to Upper East Side! The experience was sublime, the food was deliciously appetizing, the service was exceptional. Will be returning to become a regular!

I’ve tried it twice and thought both times were excellent. Beef fry, and the mutton biriyani were my favorites and very authentic, but everything was very good (neighboring table loved their kotthuroti with lamb). Very excited to have Lungi in the neighborhood!

The incompetence of this place angers me. We came in, excited to have hopper dosas, and then we asked and they said “no, only banana leaf meal.” We contemplated leaving but stayed to give it a chance. It took 30 minutes to get our original meals and it was good, just a massive amount of food. We couldn’t finish it. Anyway, it took an hour until we finally cracked. We ordered a idli and vegetable biryani, but it had not shown up! Like how long does a simple dish take to make! We left an hour after we came and the person who ordered the biryani and idli was left hungry. Crazy. The waiter was not listening to us even after we reminded them 3+ times to get the food. Don’t come here for your own sake. 0 stars.

Got the weekend banana leaf non-veg meal. It included beef mutton, mutton rolls (my only favorite), baby shark, chicken, and veg curries. Also had white rice, chicken biryani, and ras malai. It was different from what I usually eat. I grew up eating mainly North Indian food. And when I eat Indian food, I usually eat veg because I feel Indian veg tastes better than Indian non-veg. I think I will try this place’s veg food in the future. But for the price, it’s kinda too expensive and I may go elsewhere for my comfort Indian food needs. Especially since I used to really like coming here for the old restaurant (Imli) and the dishes they had. Note: I see a lot of people with glowing reviews and say it tastes pretty authentic. So this also may just be my own preference.

The Southern Indian and Sri Lankan dishes were a delicious discovery. We loved the richness of the flavor as well as the spiciness. The hopper were an excellent way to pick up the food and were tasty in their own right.

Lungi has the kind of food that makes you want to come back, but the service is so painfully inept that it turns the whole experience sour.

Food was amazing however they were severely short staffed which lead to severe delay with service. However the staff tried their best and was courteous. food was worth the wait.

We just ordered for pickup to try the new pivot to Sri Lankan food, and received the best service we have had all year. Béla provided us with INCREDIBLE drinks and absolutely made the experience memorable. We will be back because of his amazing service and welcoming attitude. He is one of a kind and makes an incredible negroni. The food was delicious as well (Kori Ghassi was the standout.) Would appreciate larger portions in the future, maybe double up on the Parathi and add slightly more Kari to each dish. Wishing you the best of luck in the future. We will be back often and tell our friends to come as too.

Finally!!! A coastal Indian food (and yes, Sri Lankan) restaurant in Manhattan! We have an endless amount of North Indian, Tamilian, and fusion (e.g. Indian Accent, Baar Baar, etc) restaurants in the city. I’ve been dreaming of having good Kerala food here for years. So happy to have randomly discovered this wonderful place yesterday. Great service and everything we had (Pepper Yera Varuval, Eggplant Moju, and Kori Ghassi with both rice and hoppers) was delicious! Will definitely be back.

Can't say enough amazing things about Lungi! As a Sri Lankan, I can 100% vouch for the authenticity and taste of the food!!! Honestly feels like I'm back at my parents home for a home-cooked meal. The Kothu roti is delicious and not soggy or doused in curry, the lunch special leaves you completely content! I went with my non-Sri Lankan friends and the described the flavors as bold but are not overwhelmingly spicy, just the perfect balance! Will definitely be a regular moving forward!!! Thanks for doing Sri Lankan cuisine justice and sharing it with the rest of NYC!

Superb taste with menu choices to suit any palate served by an attentive staff in a relaxing environment make Imli a triple threat for a great night out. The drink pour is also incredibly generous and reasonably priced. My recommendation is the vegetable samosa to start and the chicken murgh korma entrée. The Naan choices are also can't miss.

We had a great meal at Imli in their enclosed patio area, which they happily opened up for us when we asked. The service was friendly and very competent, and the food was excellent. They also had some dishes that we love that we don't generally see at restaurants (eg the lachha paratha and the dal tadka, both of which i heartily recommend). This was great and I will definitely be back when I can.

Today (10-Aug-2024) we went to Imli for dinner for 15 people and they did an absolute amazing job from food to service! They greeted us, they gave us the seating we wanted, they made sure our food came out on time, they made sure everyone had everything they needed, they took pictures for us, and were extremely attentive! The food was delicious such as the cauliflower Manchurian, ragda pattice, tandoori shrimp, kollam beef curry, goat biriyani! We thoroughly enjoyed their food and service! Thank you very much Imli!

The best Indian food I have ever eaten and fantastic service. We arrived at the restaurant soaking wet due to a sudden downpour. The manager Sathish Raj personally welcomed us in a very friendly manner and handed us towels and even a dry T-shirt. The overall service during the meal was also uniquely good. We had three different types of curry. Everything was delicious and freshly prepared. Raj was always very helpful. My son's milk intolerance was also no problem at all. The kitchen had a good solution for this. The IMLI is definitely recommended! The prices are very reasonable! The whole stuff-team was very polite. We will definitely come back!

Today I visited Imli, expecting a delightful Indian dining experience, but unfortunately, the chicken curry I ordered was a major letdown. The dish lacked the rich, bold flavors I anticipated; instead, it tasted bland and uninspired. The chicken was overcooked and dry, making it hard to enjoy. Moreover, the curry sauce was watery and lacked the depth of spices that is characteristic of a good chicken curry. I could hardly detect any of the traditional aromas that typically tantalize the senses. Overall, I left the restaurant feeling disappointed and unlikely to return for another meal. I hope they can improve their recipe as it has great potential!

Excellent service, taste, atmosphere

I can't say enough on how amazing the food is! It took me back to my childhood. An Indian family lived below us and our families shared meals with each other. I was so happy to have that experience again when I took a bite into memory lane. I highly recommend your taste buds to enjoy themselves to a wonderful evening of flavor. 😋😋 Don't forget to ask for Anna; as her sweet personality and great recommendations of tasty dishes add to the experience. The best Indian food I have ever had. We have gone to several highly rated places but this one beats all of them. After having a rough day at work I was like let’s eat something that makes us happy and truly this did the job. It 100% made me happy and I can’t wait to even eat the left over it was so good. I will definitely be coming back and telling my friends. The service was also so wonderful everyone was so polite and nice. Amazing amazing amazing. Top notch.

We had dinner here. Had the paneer pakodas which were very good. Then bagara baingan and vegetable biryani. Neither of these dishes were great. Lacking in flavor. We ordered medium for spice level. Not many choices for vegetarians just the usual Indian fare not very exciting

I came for dinner with my family and we were greeted with our smiling server Anna here at Imli. We ordered chicken tandoori and lamb seekh kebab for appetizers, both of which were grilled to perfection. For the main course were ordered Lamb Rogan Josh and Dal Tadka (main dishes are served with complimentary rice). The lamb dish had only boneless pieces, but cooked pretty well and was delicious. We ordered butter and garlic naan along with Lachcha paratha to go with the main dishes. The highlight of the dinner were the 2 desserts; crème brûlée with Gulab jam and gulab jam. Gulab jam was delightful, so was the crème brûlée. Would definitely try to have more dishes here when we visit next.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Imli Restaurant in NYC, and it was an outstanding experience. The Kerala Beef and Bagara Baingan were both really good (I’d recommend to choose the “spicy” spice level). Their garlic naan was also amazing Waitstaff super friendly and the restaurant has a nice intimate ambiance. 10/10 would recommend

Go to Imli. Sit in the greenhouse on a hot summer evening. Set the table light to the amber setting. Get the Kollam Beef Curry. It’s a family recipe. Get it at 6/10 spiciness, not 5/10, not 7/10. Get it with the garlic naan for the light aromatic crisp. Don’t forget the Rasmalai for dessert. Ask for Anna — she’ll take great care of you. Life’s too short to skip out on Indian restaurants with open-concept kitchens that offer fresh and light dishes. It’s about Imli. Life’s about going to Imli.

I was looking for a good indian restaurant around the neighborhood and had plenty of choices here in the upper east side. We decided to come here and now it is our go to for indian food! Very tasty and clean restaurant with an amazing atmosphere. If you have not tried indian food and would like to be introduced to it, this is the place. Service was good but can be better.

Tried Dal Makhani and House Chicken curry with Laccha paratha and naan! The paratha was amazing, good food, service and amazing ambience. Ahmed and Anu were very attentive and gave good service. The imli sparkler mocktail was delicious, definitely recommend.

TLDR; overall good food in a nice casual atmosphere We came in for a very late dinner on a weekday and got a table straight away. I was worried that the kitchen would be closed by the time we got there but it stays open till 10.45pm. Food: we ordered ragda pattice, paneer makhani, tandoori roti, rasmalai Drinks: mango lassi The food was overall pretty good. They do have a spice level choice for their entrees and I would highly recommend sticking with medium. Spicy is honestly too spicy to the point where your tongue is on fire. The rasmalai was much better than what I was expecting and would recommend it (it was a necessary order after the spicy paneer). Service was great, the waiter and attentive and there’s a call button on each table to get their attention if they haven’t already come to you.

Highly disappointed and not sure why the restaurant has 4.7 rating! Decided not to eat here just after having the appetizer- paneer tikka. It clearly lacked flavor and proper marination, resulting in a bland and under-seasoned dish. For $20 for appetizer, I expected much more in terms of taste and quality.

I really loved the food here. I ordered the butter chicken at the recommendation of my waitress, and I’m so glad I listened. The dish has such depth of flavor, was just spicy enough, thick enough, and the chicken was perfectly juicy. I paired it with both rice and garlic naan, and oh my goodness they were matches made in heaven. And the garlic naan was, well, very garlicky which I love. It was also very soft but the bottom had a great crunch to it. Special mention to my waitress who heard any concerns I had for my food and made sure to communicate them to the chef to make sure the food was prepared exactly how I’d enjoy it. My experience at this establishment far exceeded my expectations.

Delicious food and lovely seasoning on everything however, my very white boyfriend who actually can handle a lot of spice in his food ordered the bindi do pyaza to be made spicy and it was sooo mild that even I could handle it lol. We were provided with hot sauce on the side after commenting on this but it tasted like generic red hot sauce which was unfortunate. It was obvious that the flavor profile would've been so much stronger and truly perfect if the spice level hadn't been (seemingly) adjusted from what was requested. Kerala beef and kollam beef curry were also amazing- just missing the heat we were expecting from Indian dishes.

The food is really good. It is an underrated restaurant amidst the hustle New York city. The service from Bebo is excellent and the Chef Bilal's Culinary skills and the quality, taste and presentations are quite relishing. Kudos to the team to have such people in the restaurant.
