Humphry's Restaurant in South Bucks

My husband I visited Humphrey’s for our anniversary. The menu for vegetarian was so disappointing. The items on the menu were a mismatch , there was no specific cuisine type. I ordered the pea and mint soup as a starter. I had to ask for Salt and pepper as there was no seasoning . I couldn’t taste the mint and the soup was gritty. It was not smooth. Perhaps it was not meant to be, but seasoning should of been there. When the waitress asked how it was, I was honest and said it was not great . Her response “ ok” ! My main was chosen from their main menu, rather than the vegetarian menu ( as it was not enticing) I chose the mushroom risotto. The waiter told me that they can make the risotto vegetarian friendly (without Parmesan) . The dish arrived and Again no seasoning. I thought it was me being pickey, so I asked my husband to try abs he agreed , it was flavourless. I asked the waiter if they can add seasoning. He told me that due to no Parmesan the taste will be pretty much the same. You think being a fine dining restaurant they would have vegetarian alternatives to parmigiana cheese ( even I have in my fridge ). I then asked not to bother to remake with seasoning and thought maybe something from the vegetarian/ vegan menu will be better. I chose the spaghetti in tomato sauce. I was better of not ordering it and eating the bread. It was something a child would eat. If an Italian came To eat this , they would be appalled. I ate 1/4, out of politeness. I didn’t say anything, as at this point I just wanted to hurry up and leave. Final course chocolate fondant ... finally something that was great. I wish I had just gone straight to the dessert . When the bill came, I couldn’t believe that my tasteless meal cost £68. How can spaghetti in some tomato sauce cost £22. I have had some amazing simple pasta in fine dining Michelin star restaurant and willing to pay high price. But this, as I said is something a child would get at school. Also my husbands food was great , crab, prawns to start and halibut for main. That I understand to £68, but for vegetarian it was ridiculous. Even in Michelin star restaurant, the set menus or tasting veg menu is a little cheaper , so this place is just taking advantage. Vegetarian/ vegan food has come a long way and many chefs have learnt the art to take a vegetable and turn it into a incredible meal. This place has clearly not adopted this and think serving some spaghetti in tomato sauce with no seasoning is fine dining! Even other items on the veg menu didn’t look great. If you are vegetarian/vegan, do not eat here. Plus side, deserts were great and main menu was good ( according to my husband)

Me and my wife had some thoughts on whether to eat in the Stoke park hotel or eat in the near by village, eventually we decided to give in to our laziness and lack of desire to leave the room and keep it close, so we ate at the Humphry's. The restaurant was not full, the service and overall experience is good, dishes are not very big yet look good, the food was good but not amazing as one would expect from a high end restaurant which is how it is presented (and the prices reflect it). I will note that the dish my wife took was not to her taste and they replaced it with no problem. All in all we had a good time (and enjoyed later the fireplace in the lobby and the vicinity of the room) but expected something more when it comes to the food.

Would like to say a very big thank you to all the staff at Stoke Park who made my 40th dinner on Thur 20th Feb very special indeed. My guest and I were given a beautiful table where we enjoyed stunning views of the beautiful grounds and grande rooms.The meal itself was absolutely delicious. With so many extra tasty courses it certainly felt like the meal that kept giving. Each course was exceptional in taste and quality. I had the Gnocchi to start, Beef main and Apple crumble souffle to finish.We finished off with complimentary chocolates and an adorable sparkler birthday cupcake. The staff couldn't have made the dinner any more special and I highly recommend for special occasions or for a lovely treat. Thanks again Stoke Park for an exceptionally personalised experience.

We were fortunate to be staying at Stoke park Country Club as an escape from the bustle of London, and we decided to enjoy dinner at Humphrey's, and we were impressed with both the quality of the food and the service. The menu uses the finest ingrediuents, sourced largely from independent sources, and the quality is clearly evident in both the taste and presentation of the dishes. The service was both engaging and personable, with special thanks to Nicola for ensuring each dish was clearly explained and we were impressed with his endearing charm and presence. We savoured every mouthful of our three-course dinner before retiring to our Suite, delighted with our evening and we will surely return. Thank you to all of the team at Humphrey's, and compliments to Executive Chef Chris Wheeler for a beautifully executed evening of fine dining.

The food quality here is extrememly high, the building wonderful and service really good. I've eaten in a lot of good restaurants around the world and this was the best overal experience for a very long time.

When reserving Humphry's I specifically asked whether vegetarians were catered for and was assured this was the case. In the event, the tasting menu was not accessible (mix of meat, fish and veggie) and the a la carte menu only had one veggie option as a starter and one as a main course. What went well... My wife ordered trout as a starter and then halibut as a main course. Both were declared excellent! We had ordered a bottle of St Veran, which was excellent (Joseph Drouhin 2017). She then ordered the plum souffle, which was also lovely (she allowed me a taste), washed down with some dessert wine which was equally good (but whose name eludes me). The service from our Portuguese waiter was the perfect balance of friendliness, humour, authenticity, efficiency and knowledge - although I neglected to ask for his name, he is a credit to the restaurant. Now, some 'even better ifs'... it would have been even better if there was a wider selection of vegetarian options. That said, I was happy to order the Gnocchi as it sounded interesting, coming with parmesan waifers and pecan meringue. In the event it rather lacked flavour and I missed the pecan meringue in the dish: when I mentioned this to the maitre d' he pondered the question then claimed that it was included in the gnocchi themselves rather than separate. I found this surprising as there was no evidence to suggest this. In any event, it was somewhat underwhelming. I then ordered treacle tart - a particular favourite - but was informed a few minutes' later that it was no longer available. The waiter suggested the apple dish as an alternative. The apple itself was well-cooked and not too sweet, but the crumble seemed under-cooked. I had ordered the mushroom buckwheat as a main and that was deeply flavoured, with some lovely complexity and a richness that was not overpowering. It was gobbled up with great relish. Overall, we very much enjoyed the experience, given all the plus points called out above, but it does disappoint me that vegetarians get a raw deal in terms of choice. I was also not overly wowed by my starter and dessert, which was a shame: to be clear, they were not 'bad' just not up to the same standard of excellence which my wife enjoyed. All the wines we ordered were top notch and the service from our waiter equally good. Would we return? Yes, absolutely - the style of cooking and the ambience was very much to our liking.

Absolutely delicious! They took great care with my allergy which is always a bit awkward but they had no problems with it whatsoever. Lovely staff. Especially Harry and Miguel! Such fine gentlemen who simply can't do enough for you!

Amazing experience with my wife last night at Humphrey’s. We had red mullet as the starter perfect balance and testing. Hake with lobster bisque absolutely sublime. We have been serviced for Miguel and Harry both of them very professionals and friendly

What a perfect end to two weeks off work; wonderful food & wine, accompanied by service from Harry & his team, which was provided with just the right degree of attentiveness. Special thanks, too, for taking the trouble to cater for my wife’s dietary preferences, making sure her canapés, amuse bouche and each course she chose had appropriately substituted ingredients, where needed. Deservedly the number one dining experience in the area.

Return visit for our Wedding Anniversary. First dined here in April & were very pleased so... thought we would try again. So glad we did yesterday evening was superb, from arrival drinks to the last bite excellent. It exceeded our expectations & the staff were lovely. Our thanks to the chef Lavender ice cream was a dream.!!

We are returning guests and have specific dietary requirements. Chris and his brigade go out of their way to exceed our expectations and make every visit utterly memorable. We eat out regularly in some fabulous restaurants but can honestly say Humphry's is the standout. We would like to especially thank Chris and his brigade, Terry, Christian, Marta and Harry - you ace it!!

My partner chose to take me to Humphreys, to celebrate my birthday. On arrival, bearing in mind that Stoke Park is considered to be a prestigious place to stay, we felt we rather had a cold reception from the person at the front desk. We had arrived early, with a view to having pre dinner drinks in the grounds but were taken straight to the restaurant by a member of staff who had the appearance of a maintenance person. Quite disappointed so far. However, when we arrived at Humphreys the quality and warmth of the staff was perfect. We were escorted out to the gardens and enjoyed pre dinner drinks. The food was delicious, with a good choice and variety of flavour, the service and attention of the staff was exemplary. However, the dining room itself was very shabby, in particular the carpets which smelt and were heavily stained throughout. All In all, we had a lovely evening but feel that Stoke Park is tired, tatty, smelly and is in need of refurbishment.

We visited this restaurant recently for supper. all our courses were of an excellent standard, and the service was prompt courteous, friendly, efficient and discreet - of a high professional standard in every way. The setting is in a splendid high-ceilinged country house in a large estate with golf courses, and splendid views. The reception staff were immediately welcoming, and there was no hint of off-putting snobbishness at this posh club. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of the dining and setting. An excellent place for celebratory treats. We already plan another visit.

stunning venue , what a place to come and relax. We had the tasting menu with wines to match and all the food was supereb , wines to match where very nice as well . One slight comment is that the wines to match did not always turn up at the same time as the matching course. But the staff where great and the food was stunning. The whole experience was great and we look forward to going back.

We went to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was our first time at Humphry's and we were not disappointed: the food & the service were excellent. We chose the Tasting Menu and enjoyed all the dishes, my husband was very pleased with the matching selection of wines. The staff was efficient, attentive & friendly. We also enjoyed the beautiful dining room and the view. We will most definitely go back.

My husband and I booked Humphrys restaurant for our wedding anniversary, and from the moment we arrived we were welcomed by Vincenzo and nothing was too much trouble, he showed us into the orangery where we has a glass of champagne before being shown to a beautiful table by the window, it was just stunning. I didn’t know what to choose it is all soooo lovely, but in the end we opted for the taster menu, which was fantastic! They have an extensive wine list and Vincenzo offered up a good matches if you ever struggle...oh....you are never rushed off your table either!! In my opinion they deserve a Michelin star! Will definitely go back soon. Highly recommended! Thank you to Vincenzo and his team for making our visit so enjoyable, it just made it!

We had the pleasure of attending this fine restaurant for afternoon tea, which was a thoughtful Christmas Gift. We were welcomed on arrival by a very pleasant receptionist who took us to the restaurant where we were given a lovely window seat.

Great selection on wines and food was great and also reasonably priced. The staff are very friendly and I think this adds to the warm atmosphere, a mixture of families and couples meant there was a nice buzz and you could relax and enjoy the night

This restaurant is stunning in itself and even more so when looking at its gorgeous surroundings. Breakfast, lunch and dinner there is superb and the service from the staff is outstanding.

We had an exquisite dinner today Sunday with sublime flavours and textures .The front of house staff where all very friendly and attentive. The food is amazing and attention to detail in the presentation is 5 star ( the duck was absolutely delicious) Looking forward to a return visit.

Wonderful evening. Had the seven course tasting menu. Food was superb each course surpassing the previous. And the staff were so friendly as well as extremely professional. We have already made plans to return.

5 stars for venue, - beautiful place

We have been to Humphry's before but not for a little while and the food has stepped up a gear. Table d'hote 3 course menu also included two bouche amuse and a pre-desert. All of the courses demonstrated high class skills, blending flavours and textures. A mousse of foie gras with bone marrow, intensely flavoured consomme with a venison croquette, roast duck as you order cooked to perfection with rhubarb and a jus lightly spiked with ginger, plumb crumble souffle with creme anglais and blackcurrant ice cream.

Really enjoyed this taster menu, some amazing flavours and a couple of surprises :-) Unbelievably friendly staff

I’ve actually posted my strong recommendation for both Stoke Park and Humphry’s restaurant in the past, but I felt compelled to mention again how truly wonderful this establishment is, as it just gets better. From the warm welcome we received at the main door of Stoke Park through to our departure, every single aspect of our stay was impeccable. During the evening, in the luxurious Humphry’s, Chris Wheeler’s cuisine was simply divine. The first class servers, Sebastian, Marta and Matteo, have the perfect balance going on and do not miss a beat! We were so well looked after and, if that wasn’t enough, Mr Wheeler actually took the time to come into the dining area and introduce himself to each of the diners individually. So kind of him and so special for all of us. Needless to say we did not want to leave our wonderful retreat yesterday and will be booking our next visit asap. Thank you.

As a first comment and referring to a previous posting, I very much enjoyed a glass of English Sparkling Wine, Nyetimber, as my first drink. It is nice to see English sparkling wine on a list as it is so very good now.

This restaurant offers world-class service and food. As a vegetarian, I often find it challenging to get a good meal. They had an entire menu of options. The food was beautifully prepared and delicious. I enjoyed my evening in this lovely charming restaurant.

Food is divine, atmosphere nice and service good as well.

Wonderful 5 star experience we will talk about for years

We recently visited this place on date night and had a terrific experience.

We were looked after from start to finish. The food was amazing and the service impeccable. A lovely touch at the end as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary.

This restaurant is definitely overrated and extravagant for the low-quality they offer to their guests. This was an awful experience and I would totally not going back there nor recommending this overhyped place to anyone because it is a total waste of time and you are not getting what you are expecting to get. The restaurant looked really cosy, however, it was a bit too dark in there. The music genre was absolutely terrible which made me feel sleepy.

Good welcome with polite staff throughout. We waited over 25 minutes in the bar after ordering drinks before they arrived. The complementary canapés that were promised with them failed to materialise. The bar area is sterile - rather like a conference breakout room or waiting area. There were so many staff around that the uncomfortable delay for our drinks could never thereby be explained.

As soon as we got in we were looked after and given some little starters to have. The food was amazing and the service was great.

My friend and I had THE most amazing meal at Humphry’s. I only discovered Stoke Park recently and I’m moving to Berks but it’s worth making repeated trips back for! We had the sublime taster menu with wine pairing, preceded by a wonderful champagne cocktail (me) and beer for my colleague. Canapés to start, 7 courses and a sweet surprise to finish with coffee. A rare but very appreciated treat. Fine dining is meant to be savoured and this is fine dining at its best Wonderful setting, ambience, friendly attentive staff, creative and talented kitchen team and of course Chef Chris Wheeler at the helm. All I can say is don’t waste time, book in, this is a jewel in the culinary crown locally

I felt like the view was beautiful restaurant and the food was great I felt like the staff was really nice including the lady called Monique very professional and made me feel really welcome and everything that I instructed for our anniversary was well presented.

I took my wife here for a Birthday treat and pushed the boat out: we opted for the taster menu with associated wine flight. The food and wine pairings worked very well and the dishes were put together with care. In addition we had exceptional service from Luca and Matteo.

Myself and 7 of my family members ate here after our second day at Royal Ascot this year. After an excellent previous evening at the Waterside Inn I really didn't think that Stoke Park would be as good but I was wrong! I absolutely loved it.

We had a great family Sunday lunch here and the staff were very accommodating even for the vegans in our party. Humphry's is within Stoke Place which is set in some 22 acres with its own lake for a before or after stroll. Well worth a visit.

This is a fantastic place to visit. The location is stunning and the food is incredible. The tasting menu is amazing. Every single member of staff that spoke to us were very polite, friendly and welcoming. This was one of the best places I have even been to. I really recommend it for a special occasion.

This restaurant is top quality and service very good too. It is quite small and intimate, but at the same time you don't feel like you are being overheard. Can't fault it.

Amazing venue First class service Very fine dining and expensive but this is Stoke Park and the expected for this level of ambience and experience. We had an great time!

La Chaine des Rotisseurs Lunch. Everything was perfect. The set menu - the balance of flavours, the cooking and presentation. An example was the subtle dumping of the powerful flavours of banana and caramel so that they did not overshadow the soufflé.

Booked as a surprise treat.... It was lovely.....was a bit shocked by the £98 price tag....the cocktails took a while to arrive.....but the waiter did apologise...and ...we did not get all the canapés despite the waiter stated they were coming....so not a great start, however the meal was very good and the service in the main dining room was faultless....the waitress Martha was engaging and cheerful which made the meal experience that much nicer....

It was our wedding anniversary and coincidentally also the executive chefs 15 year anniversary and the hotel were doing a two for one offer. We had a fantastic table in the bay window, the food was some of the best we have tasted and all the staff were wonderful all finished off with a cake on a plate with piped chocolate wishing us happy anniversary. Lovely evening will be returning, well done everyone at Stoke Park and thank you for making it special.

The venue and service here are generally good with attentive staff. The food is above average but hit-and-miss. Our waiter misinformed us that we could choose dishes from both the a la carte and set menus; the head waiter later came to tell us that wasn't the case.

We enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Humphry's on Sunday. The service is excellent - they do their utmost to ensure that their guests have a delightful experience. The food is delicious with flavours and textures carefully balanced. I cannot commend Humphry's highly enough.

Recomiendo reserva pero también llegue temprano y disfrute de un aperitivo en el bar de los presidentes. El personal (todos los cuales fueron impecable en todo) lo llevará a su mesa. El restaurante está en una habitación de techos altos y tiene un maravilloso ambiente. Cenamos relativamente temprano, pero pronto el restaurante estaba lleno hasta el momento que nos fuimos bien después de las 11:00 pm.

Muy buenas cenas en un lugar hermoso. Todos los ingredientes son muy frescos, perfectamente cocinada, una alegría para los sentidos.

Great venue / location, service and value for money. Couldn't fault it at all.

Great service with fabulous creative food. Everything was perfect from the Prosecco on the terrace to the coffee at the end of the meal. It was pricey but well worth it, particularly for a special occasion.

Lovely sunny evening pre dinner drinks outside at tables on lawn, amazing views, but very slow table service, and classically overpriced drinks. Table alignment and seating arrangement no sense of intamacy, more like a railway station waiting room. Service Station and Technology right behind table which could surely be housed more discreetly elsewhere in the room. Ambience improved as tables were occupied. Good Service in restaurant, excellent food, from pre starters to desert. All very well presented. Outside service, seating arrangements and early ambiance let down the food.

This restaurant has a delightful setting in the main house at Stoke Park but does not deliver to the requisite standard. The staff are friendly but we were kept waiting for pre-dinner drinks and wine service on a night when the restaurant was not full. The menu is expensive at £68 per head: amuse bouche and starters were pleasant and light, but main dishes of beef and fish were over-cooked with unappealing vegetables and dessert was average.

El restaurante fantástico. El servicio es del más alto calibre. Muy profesional. El menú tenía opciones estupendas. Comimos platos a la carta la noche primera vez y cada plato era tan bueno. La noche siguiente cogimos el menú de San Valentín, y una vez comida fantástica. Muy bien preparado, se sirve y probado sublime. Dos noches.

We dined here during our stay. The staffs were kind and delightful. Food was decent and overall we enjoyed the dinner.

We always visit Humphry's for lunch when in England and Xmas 2016 was no exception, but this trip we also decided to return for afternoon tea as well.The setting in the lounge was lovely and absolutley packed, booking is essential I would imagine. The tea menu is extensive and great fun to explore a wonderful world of tea. Also, tea is always available for top ups and I lost count of how many pots we worked through.Cakes and sandwiches arrived and were, as expected, delicious. Tea has become such an institution in UK in recent years, especially in this kind of grand setting, but I find it often is over priced and disappointing. Not so at Humphry's. I would say that afternoon tea here is excellent value for money and a great relaxed experience. We visited as a family and the hours whiled away as we chatted.The only downside for me is that since we returned to South Africa we have discovered that afternoon tea at Humphry's has now become so successful that they nowadays only serve lunch two days a week. One of our favourite lunch venues off the agenda; sad, but I gues we will have to swap to tea.

My family wanted to take me out for a birthday treat and booked Sunday Lunch at Humphry's. It was a really special experience with excellent service from beginning to end.The Sunday lunch menu offered a good choice and we all enjoyed the meal.I feel that by booking outside the 12-2pm slot we had a more relaxing experience.

Dined here for my wife birthday and nothing but excellent service and food.Exceptional service and food was a delight. They gave my wife a nice little surprise too which was a very nice touch and finished a wonderful night

We had Sunday lunch. The service was excellent. We entered the hotel, and we were shown to the restaurant. The food was lovely. We really enjoyed.

Had the set lunch and it was one of the best meals we have had in a long time. Can't wait to go back!

Traditional menu with some pleasant surprises. The roast is possibly the best ever had out. Their gravy is exceptional. Even the bread brought round at the beginning is stunning. I can't fault anything. We started with scallops followed by roast beef (one thing that would be good - one more slice!!) and stunning vegetables roast pots and Yorkshire pudding followed by apple and rhubarb crumble delicately served with clotted and double cream with fudge in the crunchy topping. Lovely Rose Very nice. Great for special occasion.

We were a group of 8 and we chose this venue to celebrate a special occasion with afternoon tea because of its lovely setting. The venue itself is beautiful and the staff at the front desk were very attentive. We were sat a lovely table in the restaurant. The sandwiches and scones were out of this world, but sadly the staff at the restaurant seemed a bit out of focus; we had to wait for over 30 mins for preserves and clotted cream even after 2 reminders! One of the guests was refilled the wrong tea and she wasn't very pleased about it. Sadly an average experience for us.

My wife and I decided to have our company Christmas lunch at Humphry's as being members at Stoke we had always wanted to eat there. The food, service and ambience were first class and with the other tables joining in with the Christmas spirit it made for an excellent day out.

The experience was absolutely amazing! The staff was outstanding and timed everything perfectly. I was proactively asked if there were any dietary requirements, which worked perfectly since I am Vegetarian. Only small detail...was when acknowledged for the first time, the name was wrong. But then with Golembiewski in my name, I am not making things easy! Thank you everyone!

Every trip to the UK we visit Humphry's, every time the food and service are perfection, and so every time i feel compelled to write a TA review to confirm that the top notch standards are being maintained. My cellphone is full of photos of the food we have eaten here. Every single visit is different and special and the food never ceases to delight. Fish, game, meat........so far we have never been disappointed and puddings are delightfully indulgent but not so overpowering that they obliterate whatever you have eaten before.Christmas visit is in process of booking so looking forward to see what is on the xmas menu.

Beautiful restaurant Fine dining wonderful service Food was amazing Loved everything about this restaurant. As good as I expected

This is our favourite fine-dining, go-to restaurant when we want a top class meal at an affordable price. This visit was on a warm, sunny afternoon at the end of September with the restaurant door to the patio open to allow the cool breeze in. The views and food from this venue are simply stunning and at a price point that is hard to beat. Although al la carte dining is available, our party of three opted for the seasonal lunch menu at £24.50 ea. The starter of smoked salmon with squid ink cracker was a great pairing, very tasty and well presented. The mains of pan-fried cod with clams came with a very generous portion of cod and I felt the clams were slightly over-cooked on this occasion. The sweets are always the highlight for me and the chocolate marquis with ice cream was divine. The venue was half-full, but the car park was packed to the brim, which meant a healthy walk after lunch to fetch the car!

Very welcoming on arrival, courteous staff who provide first class service. Excellent food, plenty of choice and with delicious added extras, all for an incredible price. Fantastic value for money. Sumptuous surroundings but never pretentious, just a relaxing but special lunch. DC

Very smart restaurant with attentive but discreet service. Ornate platings of interesting combinations resulted in a refined and delicious meal. Historic surroundings and the sense of exclusivity make this a special occasion destination.

We had a fantastic birthday lunch at Humphrey's, a great table next to the window which was lovely. The service and the food were amazing, tea in the lounge and a stroll in the grounds topped off a beautiful afternoon.Would recommend this lovely setting whatever the occasion.

An accidental find that turned out to be a wonderful evening of good food, good wine and great service.

After watching Great British Menu, our expectations were high. The location and interiors are very impressive, as is the service from start to finish. At Under £25 for the seasonal lunch menu, it was great to have a choice of four dishes for each course and the amuse bouche and pre dessert were a lovely surprise. Some super dishes and we shall definitely be back for more!

We had a nice table for 4 & expectations were high. The food was very good but not so good you'd want to rush back. Portions are on the small side as expected, everything was fresh but not exceptional given the Chef & high prices. We just felt we'd all had better elsewhere so, overall not great value for money.

Wow wow n wow, went humphry's for my misses 30th bday with my 2 year old, i was blown away by the decor of the Mansion, very plush, the food was amazing too, the customer service of the staff was 5 star, expensive but well worth it, thanks humphry's
