Have been here for the Sunday lunch and bottomless wine with friends and family on several occasions. It remains a firm favourite! Fantastic value for money, great setting and staff and the food is always of a really high standard, especially the roast beef. The house wines are excellent most notable the red but the white is also good and the staff are brilliant for providing alternatives for non-wine drinkers. I often finish with the cheese board as it is always superb!

Stayed at stole place hotel for dinner bed and breakfast. Had a little wait in reception has no staff around but made their apologies when they did turn up. Not a big deal. Had table booked for 615 in the evening and member of staff was genuinely very pleasing and a nice, polite and welcoming person. Me and my wife had amazing, starters, mains and pudding. Nothing was rushed over cooked microwaved. Everything was absolutely perfect. Not one complaint really really good. Best lamb shank I’ve ever had and my wife said that her steak was the best she’d ever had really impressed. Puddings are amazing, too, and absolutely stuffed full Yet to have breakfast, but so far 10 out of 10 and will definitely come back

We have visited this restaurant before, but not for a while. It was a family Sunday lunch event, and I am pleased to say that the food was as good as I remember, if not better. The staff were very friendly, attentive and professional - thank you. Combined with the attractive grounds including the lake which provided an ideal option to walk off the lunch, it was the perfect family Sunday lunch experience. We will be back!

We arrived early for our table so we sat outside in the beautiful gardens and enjoyed a bottle of Rose! Dinner was a bit disappointing. The food itself was lovely however they had one member of staff serving all the tables so we had to wait a bit for drinks and the food took a while to be served. Overall we were at our table for over 2 hours and had to rush at the end as we had to get back home. I'd hope that it was a one-off so will visit again.

It has been a while since we visited the King and Lamb and we wondered how they would deal with the social distancing situation. Not only were they very professional in this regard but they also maintained the very high standards of food quality and customer service. Went on a Eat out Help out offer, received a phone call to check if we were coming, which was fine but on arrival the table wasn’t ready at 6pm so was taken to the bar where there wasn’t any seats and didn’t want to stand there as no social distances, we had passed rooms where seats were free so took us back there, then said table was ready! The table was cleaned while we sat but I asked for the arms on the chairs to be cleaned, they only cleaned my chair! Food was okay not a wide menu, not the menu that is shown on website! On the menu fish and chips £13.50 we paid £15.00 Caesar salad £12.00 we paid £12.50 We had the cheeses board which joke not value for money. On entering Stoke Place we were impressed but unfortunately the impression didn’t last, on being taken to our table I noticed a large puddle by the table which I mentioned to the waiter, he shrugged and said it’s a leaky radiator and walked away and left the puddle, which was still there when we left, Health and safety didn’t come into it!

Had dinner and afternoon tea here whilst staying a the hotel. The cod with creamed potato at dinner was delicious - so much so we had it again at dinner the next night. Afternoon tea was really nice and filling. The scones were a generous size and are baked on the premises. The staff are welcoming, friendly and eager to help. Mark is a complete natural and really enjoyed talking to him. Jack was most pleasant and helpful along with Tunde and Ozzie. Rene was entertaining and engaging. They all added to a really wonderful ambience.

Our family booked to partake of the Bottomless Wine Sunday lunch to celebrate Granddad's birthday. Ages in our party ranged from 3 years to 93 years and I am delighted to say that all participants had a very good time. The service was effortless, friendly and courteous-everyone went out of their way to ensure we had a good time. The meal choices were extensive and very imaginative and we all really enjoyed the food-even the kids' meals were lavishly presented.I have been to other "bottomless" meals where the hosts are very stingy with the drink element of the deal. This certainly could not be said of The King and Lamb. They even provided Granddad with a birthday plate with a cake and truffles on it and also allowed us to take our own cake. All in all a fabulous afternoon in delightful and historic surroundings.

The service provided by Paul was exemplary without being stuffy:humorous, friendly, informative and professional at the same time. The bar downstairs is another little gem with a fabulous range of drinks on offer in most interesting surroundings. Highly recommended.

We were served by Mark personally today (Restaurant Manager). We dined for Afternoon Tea and I had advised in advance on the booking of vegetarian requirements (no meat, fish or eggs). The afternoon tea spread was surprisingly good and it was great to see care and attention paid to the vegetarian guest and the range of vegetarian sandwiches that the kitchen were able to offer. For this I thanked Mark as it was a superb effort, beyond my expectations. I highly recommend the afternoon tea here at Stoke Place for meat eaters and vegetarians, no complaints on any of it. As it was a scorching hot day outside, they also provided us with a jug of iced water for us which was a really nice touch. We took a walk around the lake after the afternoon tea and it was a really pleasant visit. Mark thank you so much for taking care of us. I wish I had booked afternoon tea at Stoke Place much sooner! I will be sure to return.

My wife and I visited here today for the "bottomless" sunday lunch. For £30 you get three courses plus unlimited wine!Table water is provided on your table and after being seated, we ordered the Goat's Cheese and Smoked Salmon starters. Both were small, but very tasty. A member of staff provided us with a couple of freshly baked bread rolls to enjoy with our starters.Main course next, with my wife choosing the roast chicken while I went for the Roast Beef, which was cooked rare. Horseradish and mustard accompanied my beef, which also had a delicious mushroom puree hidden away under some of the other veg! My wife enjoyed her chicken and we both enthused over the superb Cauliflower Cheese which was served separately. For our puds, I chose the Sticky Toffee pud which was not overly sweet, but needed a larger portion of ice cream to accompany it. My wife chose the Chocolate & Raspberry concoction, which looked amazing.Throughout the meal, the wine continued to flow! Overall, a very pleasant sunday lunch and pretty good value given the abundance of wine at £67.50 inclusive of service charge!

Lovely venue, stylish quirky decor and good ambiance. 2 of our group have food intolerances and we emailed the week before to inform them. Unfortunately egg intolerant people were served mayonnaise based remoulade and the coeliac was served the world's smallest plaice that judging by her reaction was dusted with flour. On the upside the steaks were great, the spicy fish soup was delicious, gluten free bread was very good. Some very good stuff here, but kitchen/servers need to sharpen their knowledge of food allergies/intolerances to make sure they can provide the level of service they clearly want to achieve for all of their guests

We booked dinner at Stoke Place to celebrate a wedding anniversary, booking via Red Letter Days, and the process was quite straightforward. On arrival, we were a little early, and the hotel advised us that although we could go to the bar, there was a large group already there from a business meeting booking. The bar was indeed very crowded and LOUD, so we accepted the suggestion to go straight to the restaurant. Well - we were there for probably 1.5h, and we were the only people in the restaurant. So - the atmosphere was definitely lacking. The poor waiter must have felt like he was stalking us, as he had nothing else to do.The food was acceptable - nice breads to start with. Starters nicely presented, and tasty. I had vegetarian gnocchi in cheese sauce for mains, which was very tasty. OH had a steak which wasn't great. Desserts also OK - nothing memorable. Would we return? Probably not - food wasn't special enough, although perhaps we just chose a bad night, with no other guests dining it pretty much put a damper on the experience.

The restaurant setting is wonderful and the food is fantastic, but the bar prices are astronomical, so beware. eg. a large glass of wine and two single gin and tonics £29, two coffees and two single measure Disaronno Amaretto Liqueurs another £18. We have heard great reviews about the bottomless Sunday Lunch, £28 for three courses with unlimited house wine, at these bar prices you can see why that is so popular and needs to be booked weeks in advance. We ate delicious food from the A La Carte menu. We both had a Starter, Main Course and Dessert that cost only £84 and we had what were probably the most expensive choices offered, great value for what was outstanding quality food. The Crispy Belly Pork, the 28 day Salt Aged Beef and Tarte Tatin were particularly good!Service was excellent, with the staff very polite and attentive without being intrusive.Restaurant Manager is quite a character, with many stories to tell.

We almost cancelled lunch today as our 4&5yr olds have had rotten cold and little sleep. However, Nanny has to have a birthday treat! The welcome and ambience were very good. The food and the service were wonderful. We had the first 2 courses, still unfortunately had to leave as our youngest was becoming a bit weary and upset - which I find is never pleasant for other diners. Having said that she gave a mini rendition of "twinkle twinkle" prior to her deflation and had a lovely response from the diners when I attempted to turn her volume down! I have to say it really was amazing that as we didn't stay for dessert the Maitre 'D/Head waiter Mark was so thoughtful, giving me a beautiful takeaway birthday gift for Nanny (photo attached). I apologised for my little ones noise and he was very gracious and understanding. Mark said we are always very welcome. It's hard as a parent when your trying to please all the family and want to go out, yet got tired or tail-end poorly tot. I would recommend the bottomless roast without a doubt. Most certainly outstanding value @ £22/£28 pp (2/3 course option), plus wine refills thought the 2hr dinning slot (sadly I was not drinking today), when you take into consideration the price of some local pub roasts that offer far less. We will most definitely return... Perhaps childless and undoubtedly thirstier! Thank you to the entire staff for our visit.

My husband I visited Humphrey’s for our anniversary. The menu for vegetarian was so disappointing. The items on the menu were a mismatch , there was no specific cuisine type. I ordered the pea and mint soup as a starter. I had to ask for Salt and pepper as there was no seasoning . I couldn’t taste the mint and the soup was gritty. It was not smooth. Perhaps it was not meant to be, but seasoning should of been there. When the waitress asked how it was, I was honest and said it was not great . Her response “ ok” ! My main was chosen from their main menu, rather than the vegetarian menu ( as it was not enticing) I chose the mushroom risotto. The waiter told me that they can make the risotto vegetarian friendly (without Parmesan) . The dish arrived and Again no seasoning. I thought it was me being pickey, so I asked my husband to try abs he agreed , it was flavourless. I asked the waiter if they can add seasoning. He told me that due to no Parmesan the taste will be pretty much the same. You think being a fine dining restaurant they would have vegetarian alternatives to parmigiana cheese ( even I have in my fridge ). I then asked not to bother to remake with seasoning and thought maybe something from the vegetarian/ vegan menu will be better. I chose the spaghetti in tomato sauce. I was better of not ordering it and eating the bread. It was something a child would eat. If an Italian came To eat this , they would be appalled. I ate 1/4, out of politeness. I didn’t say anything, as at this point I just wanted to hurry up and leave. Final course chocolate fondant ... finally something that was great. I wish I had just gone straight to the dessert . When the bill came, I couldn’t believe that my tasteless meal cost £68. How can spaghetti in some tomato sauce cost £22. I have had some amazing simple pasta in fine dining Michelin star restaurant and willing to pay high price. But this, as I said is something a child would get at school. Also my husbands food was great , crab, prawns to start and halibut for main. That I understand to £68, but for vegetarian it was ridiculous. Even in Michelin star restaurant, the set menus or tasting veg menu is a little cheaper , so this place is just taking advantage. Vegetarian/ vegan food has come a long way and many chefs have learnt the art to take a vegetable and turn it into a incredible meal. This place has clearly not adopted this and think serving some spaghetti in tomato sauce with no seasoning is fine dining! Even other items on the veg menu didn’t look great. If you are vegetarian/vegan, do not eat here. Plus side, deserts were great and main menu was good ( according to my husband)
