Food was OK, nothing hugely special and coffee was awful. They did accommodate gluten free but did not ask at booking so couldn't do dairy free on the day. It's not a bad atmosphere and the venue is dated (not unkempt just oldy woldy). I got married here 20 years ago and it looks the same... Timi, who served us, was fantastic and made the afternoon with her attentiveness and smile.

Without the friendly staff I would of given 3 stars. The afternoon tea itself was average. The bread from the sandwiches wasn’t very fresh. The homemade scotch eggs were lush though! The homemade scones also dry and v crumbly. A nice selection of mini cakes. Tea and coffee refilled throughout and could add champagne at £10 a glass. We went on a Friday winter afternoon and it was pretty much empty. Despite being an old building it didn’t feel drafty. A large free carpark available.

I love cream teas and this was the best I have had. The bookings were staggered so the dining room was not too crowded. We visited on a day when it was extraordinarily hot (33 degrees) and took the opportunity to relax in the garden in the shade on hotel deck chairs while we waited for our table to be ready. I had bought the voucher via RedLetterDays, and was entitled to the Delux Cream tea comprising as much tea/coffee as we wanted, a three tier cake stand with a selection of cakes, pastries, scones (with jam and clotted cream) and finger sandwiches (crusts cut off). We were able to choose two types of sandwich filling from a list of 6 available - and chose 4 different varieties on brown bread (prawn, gammon and pineapple, cheese and tomatoes, cream cheese and chive. Cakes were not too sweet - strawberry tarts, proper cheese cake, gooseberry trifle, Victoria jam/cream sponge. Service attentive but not overbearing. Made us feel special. Asked if we wanted more tea or hot water. Nice crisp white table cloths and proper white linen starched napkins! Worth the two hour journey to get there. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Would go again.

They really do afternoon tea well at the Grovefield. We were using a Christmas gift voucher and had booked ahead. The venue is excellent, bright and sunny and the view over the gardens is very pleasant. You have a choice of sandwiches, which does mean that you get what you want. Our waitress was charming and friendly. Excellent choices of tea or coffee. The sandwiches and cakes are well presented and the scones were still warm! We must have stayed about 2 hours but we didn't feel rushed at any time. Highly recommended.

Had booked afternoon tea for a group of us. Very good service. Choice of 2 different sandwiches, thinking I would just get 2 finger sandwiches, but surprised as got 3 of each of my 2 choices. Lovely warm scones. A nice selection of small cakes and pastries. I would have liked an explanation of what these cakes were as one of our party had a nut allergy. We had our tea in the lodge which allows dogs. One of the staff even offered us a bowl of water for the dog.

We held my fathers birthday celebration on a Sunday afternoon in the Huntswood Two room that had a bar and accommodated around 40 people. Were pleased with the service, the room layout, facilities and the flexibility/helpfulness of the staff which all contributed to a successful event for friends and family. However, some of the food on the menu was disappointing and not up to standard with disparity over the size of the meals. It didn't spoil our celebration but I couldn't recommend it as a place to eat. We also had issues with a blocked men's toilet that was never resolved whilst we were there.

The Grovefield is so peaceful and relaxing, with its quintessentially English dining room and view over the gardens where spring bulbs are blooming. Loved the beef and red onion chutney sandwich! I like the system of choosing two types of sandwich - when you’re with a friend, this gives four flavours to savour, if you can bear to share! Plenty of tea offered. If you like to ‘people watch’ this one is not for you, but if you want a calm, quiet, delightful experience then it most certainly is.

One of few venues to allow us to book 22 people on a Sunday afternoon and no extra charge for a private room (we used the dining room) and happy to include a 1 year old. Excellent food (Sandwiches, scones, cakes and birthday cake) with constant flow of tea and coffee. Really good service and very good value (under £20 per person).

The food we were given today must have cost them less that £5. The sandwiches were okay but as for the cakes appalling. There were two of the smallest scones you have ever seen with jam and cream and four each of the smallest cakes you have ever seen. You couldn't even call two of them cakes. One was just a plan piece of meringue and one a very small profiter roll and a very small piece of carrot cake less than 2 inches in size and another cake similar size .How can they justify the £17:50 per head and why did it not represent the photos on here? After eating the sandwiches I had to ask for clean plates to put the cakes on!

I came with my mother for champagne afternoon tea and first impressions were positive. We were greeted warmly on arrival and shown to the bar where we were asked to wait to be seated( we were 5 minutes early.) we had a nice table with a view of the garden. I was pleased to find out that we had a choice of two sandwiches each from a menu and when they arrived they were lovely and fresh. Unfortunately the scones had not risen, they were hard on the outside, a bit like a biscuit. I looked around the room at other diners' scones and most looked more appetising than ours. I'd have been happy if they had just changed them but instead I got a long explanation about how it was "not efficient use of the oven to make 2 scones".Scones for me are the main event in an afternoon tea, ours weren't good and they decided not to do anything about it. Enough said...The little choux buns were very tasty, the carrot cake and mini meringue were pleasant but neither of us enjoyed the little lemon custard sponge but didn't bother complaining about it. I was happy with the twinings tea bags served but I did note that in the menu they mentioned that they serve "leaf tea". If it matters to you, you might want to ask for the leaf tea. Service was good apart from the scone issue.

My wife and I have just returned home after enjoying a super afternoon tea at Grovefield House, booked at the very last minute. Although we arrived 15 minutes late (satnav misdirection!) an immaculate window table was ready for us and we were made cheerfully welcome. There was a good choice of fiilings, and the finger sandwiches were freshly made to our specifications. They were delicious, as were the accompanying scones (with jam and cream) and selection of little cakes. There was a good range of teas and coffee to choose from as well, topped up or a fresh pot if you wanted more. The waiting staff were really excellent, efficient without being intrusive, courteous and attentive with ready smiles. We had been given a voucher for this treat. I believe the cost is £35 for afternoon tea for two and, given the pleasant location, relaxed atmosphere, faultless service and tasty food, that struck me as good value.

I went with a friend using a 2 for 1 voucher for afternoon tea. At first I was a little put off, as the receptionist did not give us a warm welcome and just ignored us. In fact I had to approach her. There were no smiles at all. However, once past reception service was first class. Our waitress was attentive, warm and smiley and nothing was too much trouble. The dining room was attractive, clean and inviting, with a well-decorated Christmas tree. We had a choice of teas, but more unusual, a choice of sandwiches and bread too. I usually bypass the sandwiches, but not this time, they were delicious and interesting and well-filled. The scones were light and melted in the mouth and the cream was good, clotted cream. Cakes were also interesting and varied, but by this time I was getting full, so only tasted a small mince pie and a piece of stollen and both were light and delicious. I believe it was the manager, but a man came to make sure all was well with our tea, he was warm and friendly and also gave us a smile. We were both very impressed and will definitely return for tea, if not for a meal.

My husband and I went to Grovefield House for afternoon tea. It was an early Christmas present from a friend. The positioning of the reception desk is odd, tucked behind a wall and difficult to see from the door. We waited in line to tell of our arrival for our booked slot. I cannot fault the waiting staff who were courteous and friendly. We were given an option of where to sit and chose the window table which was pleasant. We were only offered breakfast tea, disappointment number one. Surely a choice of tea for a specific afternoon tea experience is paramount. Nor were we offered a range of milk Again in this day when many people are vegan or vegetarian this is a possibility. In fact we had made the staff aware I was vegetarian when we booked but that had not been noted down and no mention of it was made on arrival or at any time. This is disappointment number two. Unfortunately my husband's coffee was undrinkable and he asked for tea instead. He was not offered a new cup and had to ask for one. Oh dear...number three and four disappointment. The second milk jug he sent back as there was a large chip on the pouring spout and two at the rear of the rim . The choice of sandwiches was ok but not inspiring and I had egg and watercress. Why not cress? Watercress is stringy and difficult to eat in small finger sandwiches. I have to say the scones were yummy ,warm and crumbly. They saved the tea. The cakes were also disappointing, two small profiteroles,a small square of what seemed to be dry, flavouress bread pudding with a blob of some sort of cream and a small chocolate mousse on soggy pastry. We did not even venture to taste this as mousse often contains gelatin. On the table were sugar cubes which looked as if they had been out and exposed for several days. They were disintegrating in the air! The jam for the scones was in Tiptree catering jars with no choice apart from strawberry jelly . Surely proper jam in a pot and a choice of flavour does not cost much more. When we asked each other if we had enjoyed the experience both of us said it was ok but so many small mistakes that needed attending to made what should have been a treat into an ok experience!!! Come on Grovefield...you are missing out on repeat business if only you had made small adjustments!!! Too many disappointments.

My Husband and I visited last year and had afternoon tea and were so disappointed that we complained and received another afternoon tea which we chose to book for today. Nearly one year on we were greeted by a member of staff who asked us to wait until exactly 2pm before showing us through to the dining area, his colleague then showed us in 2 minutes later, we were then subjected to him being reprimanded as we should not have been seated until 2pm. When the tea arrived we were surprised to see that the cakes had not changed one year on and the hotel still believe that serving a profiterole as a cake is acceptable! The service had improved slightly but when a waiter calls you "mate" instead of "sir" which I would expect in this establishment does not bode well with me. The sandwiches were 'ok', nothing exciting, the meat was so hard that you either placed the whole sandwich in your mouth or had to cut it with a knife first. We are experienced afternoon goers and we are surprised you have to choose your sandwiches rather than having a lovely selection to share. As we had a champagne afternoon tea the additional item was 8 strawberries and a pot of chocolate (unpleasant) .... it was the same chocolate on the profiterole so it appeared to be just left over chocolate. The waiter did not ask if we would like some more tea so we had to ask, the staff should be attentive, it should be an experience going for an afternoon tea, unfortunately it is lacking at Grovefield House, I am afraid we will not return.

I have had numerous afternoon teas over the years and the service here was pathetic. We arrived at 2pm to be informed that they had failed to take the voucher down correctly over the phone and now wanted be to email to them. They offered us a table in the meanwhile but did not offer us any drinks whatsoever not even a glass of water. I had emailed it to them within 5 minutes and noone came up to us until we gestured to the manager after we had enough of waiting 20 minutes with everyone ignoring us. It then materialised that they could not access the voucher from the email but they had failed to bother to come over to tell us this and just left us waiting. The manager then insisted that i needed to email it again and still did not offer us any drinks. I made it very clear that this was not acceptable as we had been waiting 27 minutes by this time and the restaurant had about 3 tables of a couple of people and one party of 12 who were not even on the afternoon tea option. I dread to think how they would have got by if it was even half full! I told the manager that i could just read him the code and he could write it down but he insisted that they needed the email. Clearly, this is not necessary given that all they needed was a code number. He still did not offer us any drinks. He then went off again and eventually came back having written the voucher number down off their own computer screen and took our order. The tea arrived about 35 minutes after we had arrived at the restaurant and some young waitress brought the afternoon tea itself over and failed to even tell us what the cakes were and scurried away as quickly as possible. None of the waitresses even came over to check we were okay or ask if we wanted anything else. I would have expected an offer of a free drink or something given the pathetic service that we received but clearly this was too much to expect.Unless you have very low expectations then do not bother going! We will not be returning to this hotel that is for sure.

There was not much of a selection of small cakes and a scone each. When we had gone previously more cakes were served. Good service by a very attentive and polite waitress. Our teenage children had bought us afternoon tea from an online company. We looked at the venues available and it seemed that London or Slough were closest. Upon checking out the Slough option, I discovered that it was in fact the Grovefield in Burnham which I knew had a good reputation in the past. We booked there and duly arrived on a sunny day. The hotel is pleasantly situated in a country setting, the staff serving us were very friendly and helpful. The menu suggested that bagged and loose tea was available, I ordered Darjeeling which was supposed to be loose but was in a tea bag, nevertheless it was still refreshing. I ordered coronation chicken and roast beef with horseradish and red onion marmalade sandwiches, they were very tasty and well filled. I then enjoyed a scone, possibly a little too well baked but pleasant, with clotted cream and raspberry jam. Finally we had some small cakes which by then I was unable to do justice to. I've no idea how much our children paid for this treat but it was a lovely experience that I can certainly recommend.

The scones were also good, if a little more baked than is usual, but still very tasty. A good selection of tea, although neither of the advertised leaf teas were available. The let down was a poor selection of "cakes" - this should be the high point of any tea but we were given a small square of carrot cake, a single profiterole and finally a small pastry case filled with a swirl of whipped cream and a raspberry. All three were perfectly nice and pleasant - but you would expect at least a little more effort to be made for an afternoon tea.

Lovely setting for afternoon tea. Visited on a nice sunny day and looking out on the gardens was nice. We hadn't booked and that seemed to flummox the staff a little as most people seem to go in with vouchers. However they managed to fit us in and it was a good value meal. Only reason for one mark removed was that we overheard staff 'banter' or argument which seemed out of place for this type of establishment in front of customers and the cloakroom facilities weren't great.

There was 5 of us who visited on a sunny Friday afternoon and when we arrived there was a few other people there seated having afternoon tea with one waitress serving. We were seated on a lovely well laid out table in the window. Due to the sun shining in the waitress opened the patio doors and we were presented with tea menus and advised we would receive a selection of sandwiches with our afternoon tea. The afternoon tea arrived fairly quickly and was an assortment of sandwiches and cakes. The sandwiches were all very fancy and had some sort of dressing on each with white and brown bread. The selection was ham, beef, egg, tuna and salmon but no coronation chicken. The cakes were cream scones, profiteroles, strawberry Eton mess, carrot cake and a lemon mousse. The scones were very fresh and tasted really nice as was the Eton mess and carrot cake, although due to the sun the cream had started to melt so we had to hurry to eat the cakes before the cream melted.By this point the dining area had filled up with more people but there was still only one waitress serving around 6 or 7 tables which meant that when she filled the pots of tea & coffee she did not fill up the sugar and milk which was problematic between 5 people with 2 small jugs of milk. Afterwards we ordered a bottle of pink champagne to take outside and enjoy in the gorgeous gardens. To add champagne to your afternoon tea was £8 per person so it works out better if you buy a bottle. All in all we had a lovely experience, although due to the location the afternoon tea here is a bit more expensive but worth it for a treat.

One small point that we had to wait a little while to be served but that didn't affect our enjoyment. Will definitely be going back

This was a birthday gift Virgin Experience voucher treat. The food was a very good balance: choice of sandwiches, the best scones I have had for a long time , with loads of cream and jam, and a variety of little cakes: couldn't have eaten any more! Only slight complaint: wobbly table! The pleasant grounds offer the chance for a waddle round afterwards, to shift a few calories .

I have been to Grovefield House hotel for afternoon tea a few times and we thoroughly enjoyed it each time. The staff are friendly and helpful most of the time and the standard of food was always good. In fact its sandwiches and sweet treats selection was much better than some 4 stars establishment in central London. The restaurant itself was airy and tranquil and it offered a lovely garden view which is a bonus.

We went for our afternoon tea today at 16.30pm and was home by 17.15pm. The reason being was that our great disappointment of what we were served. The white and brown bread were doughy. The choice of only two types of filling for one person is laughable. The fillings in the sandwiches were of poor quality and standard. The cakes were stale. Merigue were not crips, carrot cakes were soggy. Tea selection was poor. Tea teapot had a chip. The plain scone was doughy.Overall a very disappointing experience one we were looking forward to for a long time.We have had many many afternoon teas from the Ritz to the Savoy and local areas. This by far is possibly the worst.

I'd booked afternoon tea at Grovefield House Hotel for three families to mark a friend's birthday. We were given a separate room and our request for a projector to play a short video was acceded with no extra charge. The sandwiches and cakes were plentiful and sumptuous. And they kept coming! We were very well looked after by the staff. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel if you're looking for something classy.

I was bought a 'Virgin Experience' for my birthday, which was Afternoon Tea for two. We chose The Grovefield because it was the only one near to where we live. It was excellent. Food was plentiful with a good choice of sandwiches, cakes and speciality teas if you wanted them. We did not manage to eat all the cakes, so we took them home with us. Rebecca our waitress was excellent. I would highly recommend this hotel for Afternoon Tea.

We recently had afternoon tea at Grovefield House after we had visited the gardens at nearby Cliveden. The restaurant is a beautifully appointed room overlooking the garden - unfortunately we were the only people at that time so it was a little lacking in atmosphere. The staff were all friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome, the sandwiches were freshly made and of our choice (from a selection of about 8 fillings on the menu), and the accompanying cakes and pastries were superb. There was a good choice of tea and coffee available. Despite our very best efforts my husband and I couldn't eat everything we were offered! A very relaxing end to a wonderful day out.

My lovely friend Jo bought me a red letter champagne afternoon tea as my birthday present. She had originally planned for the event to take place at a very grand hotel near Bodmin, but for various reasons we couldn't make the trip; so changed to Grovefield House which was closer and had received very good reviews. There were quite a few other couples having tea, which was nice and gave a quiet country house atmosphere. The room overlooking the garden was lovely and the service excellent. You are asked to choose your sandwich fillings from quite an extensive menu, although they differed a tad from the ingredients given, they were still good. The scones (still warm) and meringue (crisp outside, soft inside) were the best I have ever eaten - scrummy. The cake was a bit dry, but to be honest I would defy anyone to eat all that is given. We squirreled away the biscuits for laters (also good) to make room for the strawberries and dipping chocolate.I would advise coming earlier than our 3.30 and skipping lunch!A really lovely experience that I would recomend

As a wedding gift we were bought a red letter day voucher for Afternoon Tea, and we selected Grovefield as our choice, I'm so pleased that we chose here! I have to say we had a bad experience at another place when using a voucher, Some times some places treat you differently, but at Grovefield that is not the case, they were so friendly and lovely, and actually, quite a few others had vouchers too. So when we arrived we were greeted at reception by a lovely gentleman, so polite, dressed in a sharp suit and he seated us. Then the waitress came back and went through the menu with us, She was very pleasant and thorough, going through all of our options. Its really tailored as you can choose the type of bread you like along with the filling (at Luton Hoo you just get what you are given). The scones were freshly baked, so fresh they were still warm, and absolutely delicious! We really had a lovely time, beautiful scenery, upbeat relaxing music, comfortable seats and it just wasn't pretentious, it was relaxing, not too posh, which I think has more of a charm! The Hotel appeared to be preened to a high standard, the toilets were pristine and overall it was just a very lovely time! We left full to the brim, with smiles on our faces. We will most certainly be visiting again!

I phoned to book a table for afternoon tea the lady on the phone seemed unfriendly, not very good at giving information and seemed in a rush to get me off the phobe. I managed to speak to the hotel events person who was extremely helpful and lovely. On the actual day of the afternoon tea we arrived the lady at reception was very pleasent and showed us to the dining area. Once there the waitress seated us. No smile, unpleasant just said look in the menu and pick what we want. No explanation of how it all works since we had never been for afternoon tea before. The tea, cakes and sandwiches tasted lovely. When asking for refill of the tea the waitress looked at us like we shouldn't be asking for this and seemed like it was an inconvenience for her to do this. We were then asked to move into the bar area as dinner service starts at 6pm no one informed us that there is a set time to eat and get out before we booked otherwise we would have booked an early time. I think its the manager a man with hair tied back was very apologetic and helful, very lovely and excellent customer service. It it weren't for this chap I would have given all 1 stars. The hotel itself was very clean and tidy.

I went here with a friend who had been given a voucher for afternoon tea and asked me to join her. it is in a lovely location just outside of Burnahm (taxi ride £5 from the station or village). Staff were very polite. The tea was lovely - we both enjoyed it. Felt it would have been nicer to have china cups instead of the white ones that you get in hospitals etc and would have preferred butter rather than margerine on sandwiches but all in all was very good

We have been celebrating our ruby wedding for several weeks (!) and tea at the Grovefield with friends was the last item on our list. We had already had tea at the Ritz a few weeks ago so the Grovefield had competition! The staff were attentive, although the young lady who served us was a little difficult to understand - some of us thught she was not English, although I think she probably was and just needed to be a little more confident. The sandwiches were excellent, fresh and varied - tuna, beef, egg, ham, smoked salmon, cheese; the scones were freshly-made and tasty: I would have liked a little more cream, and home-made jam rather than the little pots would have been good, but it wasn't a major problem. The selection of cakes was varied and delicious as were the fruit tarts and as much tea as you could wish for. They also didn't seem in any hurry to get rid of us and we sat there for the best bit of two hours (different to the Ritz where you have a set time to be out by!) All in all an enjoyable experience at a reasonable price and one I would recommend to others.

My Mum, Mum-in-law and I visited the hotel yesterday for afternoon tea, courtesy of vouchers given to me for a birthday gift. As it was a sunny day, we asked if we could sit outside and the restaurant team swiftly arranged a table for us in a shady spot of the hotel's beautiful gardens. The food, setting and staff were all excellent. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff were attentive and very polite. Highly recommended and very rare to find a venue these days where the presentation of the staff and the customer service given by them, the food and the location all tick every box I'm hoping they will! Our sandwiches and tea/coffee order arrived, exactly as per our wishes and we left with the remaining box of cakes that we couldn't manage to find room for.We had a really enjoyable afternoon at the Grovefield House Hotel, thank you very much.

As a birthday treat for a friend i purchased an Asda gift coupon which entitled us to a visit to either The Grovefield or the Pinewood Hotel for afternoon tea. We chose The Grovefield and enjoyed a selection of sandwiches from a varied choice along with some lovely and light cakes before finishing with scone, jam and clotted cream. The service was excellent but not intrusive. The pot of tea replenished as we needed it. We finished our visit by sitting outside to chat and then had a slow walk around the grounds. The garden was pretty and the seating comfortable. My friend really enjoyed the treat and we plan to return fairly soon to repeat the experience as it proved to be very good value.

We visited Grovefield House because a friend had kindly bought us an 'Afternoon Tea' experience as a gift and this was one of the available locations, we booked about 10 days in advance (plan with options as sometimes due to weddings the tea's are not available every day).We like our teas and and thought we had some very good experiences under our belts, now we have a new leader! The variety & quantity of sandwiches was good, the selection of small cakes and pastries excellent and the quality/freshness perfect.Presentation was also excellent with a three tier cake stand, white linen and good service, the view from the restaurant out across the lawns and gardens makes a lovely backdrop (don't be afraid to ask for a table to be relaid for a better view if busy). Additional tea and hot water is available also modifications to menu to suit diets etc.

A wonderful experience. I received an' Afternoon Tea for Two' voucher as a Christmas present.I have only just got round to use it but it was worth waiting for! Sandwiches were divine, as were the scones and cakes- so much variety! Lots of cream and jam to go round, and the waitresses were very attentive and made sure we had enough tea. Couldn't ask for better food, better service, or a better setting. Beautiful grounds. Couldn't recommend enough, and I hope to be coming back again soon!

Used a Red Letter Days voucher for this afternoon tea. This is served in the restaurant overlooking the gardens. On arrival we were offered a glass of complimentary sparkling wine which was very nice. Lovely sandwiches of smoked salmon, ham (the best), egg and also cucumber. Huge array of bite size cakes - meringue, carrot cake, flapjack, chocolate fondant, profiterole, sable biscuit, lemon tart as well as scones with jam and cream. Other tables were also served with jellies but we missed out. We also had to go and ask for a second pot of tea. There is a choice of different types of tea and coffee. The wasps were a bit annoying (windows were open as it was a lovely day). If you have any leftovers they will package these up for you to take home. Lots of chairs to sit in in the gardens or the lounge/bar before/after tea. Would definitely recommend.

We received a present from a close friend and found it to be a Deluxe Afternoon Tea at the Grovefield Hotel in Taplow.....We followed the comprehensive instructions and booked it for 28/06/2013 and were allocated 3pm as the time to arrive. When the day arrived we drove from Reading and thanks to our AA Routefinder, arrived a bit ahead of time. We were shown to comfortable seats in the lounge area and were given a glass of champagne each until our eating time arrived. We were then taken into the room and were able to chose a table in the window. I ordered Latte and Carole ordered tea. Soon a large plate of sandwiches arrived consisting of 3 salmon, three ham, three cucumber and three egg. They were quite substantial and once we had consumed them we started on a well presented cake stand of cakes and scones. The scones came with cream and jam and there were profiteroles, lemon custard tarts, chocolate cake, meringues and shortbread. Also flapjacks and a ginger-style cake.Well, we were very satisfied with our afternoon tea and can say without any doubt that it was a very special present from our friend.

We were bought an experience voucher by a friend for our engagement and we selected to go to Grovefield as it was the nearest to us. We had the deluxe afternoon tea package. We weren't expecting something too great as it was a voucher and often feel that you get the scrag ends or bare minimum service. Well it was gorgeous. We had so much food and it was delicious. We were very lucky as we went on a Monday at 2pm, and it was empty. We had the whole room to ourself and were seated by the window looking out onto the courtyard with the sun beaming in. The intial reaction is "I can't eat all that!!!"...but of course we did :) Lovely gift!!

My husband I visited Humphrey’s for our anniversary. The menu for vegetarian was so disappointing. The items on the menu were a mismatch , there was no specific cuisine type. I ordered the pea and mint soup as a starter. I had to ask for Salt and pepper as there was no seasoning . I couldn’t taste the mint and the soup was gritty. It was not smooth. Perhaps it was not meant to be, but seasoning should of been there. When the waitress asked how it was, I was honest and said it was not great . Her response “ ok” ! My main was chosen from their main menu, rather than the vegetarian menu ( as it was not enticing) I chose the mushroom risotto. The waiter told me that they can make the risotto vegetarian friendly (without Parmesan) . The dish arrived and Again no seasoning. I thought it was me being pickey, so I asked my husband to try abs he agreed , it was flavourless. I asked the waiter if they can add seasoning. He told me that due to no Parmesan the taste will be pretty much the same. You think being a fine dining restaurant they would have vegetarian alternatives to parmigiana cheese ( even I have in my fridge ). I then asked not to bother to remake with seasoning and thought maybe something from the vegetarian/ vegan menu will be better. I chose the spaghetti in tomato sauce. I was better of not ordering it and eating the bread. It was something a child would eat. If an Italian came To eat this , they would be appalled. I ate 1/4, out of politeness. I didn’t say anything, as at this point I just wanted to hurry up and leave. Final course chocolate fondant ... finally something that was great. I wish I had just gone straight to the dessert . When the bill came, I couldn’t believe that my tasteless meal cost £68. How can spaghetti in some tomato sauce cost £22. I have had some amazing simple pasta in fine dining Michelin star restaurant and willing to pay high price. But this, as I said is something a child would get at school. Also my husbands food was great , crab, prawns to start and halibut for main. That I understand to £68, but for vegetarian it was ridiculous. Even in Michelin star restaurant, the set menus or tasting veg menu is a little cheaper , so this place is just taking advantage. Vegetarian/ vegan food has come a long way and many chefs have learnt the art to take a vegetable and turn it into a incredible meal. This place has clearly not adopted this and think serving some spaghetti in tomato sauce with no seasoning is fine dining! Even other items on the veg menu didn’t look great. If you are vegetarian/vegan, do not eat here. Plus side, deserts were great and main menu was good ( according to my husband)
