Good coffee, friendly staff and very clean. Upstairs closed today apart from the toilet which was also exceptionally clean. Didn’t try any food but will be back to try it again.

Atmosphere is Warm and Welcoming . Coffee aroma wow. Staff friendly, warm and made us feel welcome, Service was spot on (great). We tried sausage rolls and they are delicious. Will be back very soon.

Independent coffee shop serving good coffee and a variety of cakes, muffins etc. Comfortable and quiet, perfect for Sunday mornings. Have always managed to get a seat but imagine can be difficult when busy. There is an upstairs area too.

Needed a coffee shop which was quiet and chill so I could catch up on a bit of work and chose to go independent. Staff were so lovely & polite and made me feel so welcome and brought me water when I asked even though it was a help yourself satiation (I didn’t realise)! The latte has a distinctive taste and the vegetable pasty I had was incredible & beautifully presented. Shame the up stairs space wasn’t open but will definitely be returning.

It is so nice to see an independent coffee shop doing so well. Great, friendly service from staff and tasty coffee. Cakes looked delicious but will keep for another visit! Would recommend.

Visited today for the first and LAST time.Ordered scones with butter and tea. One small pat of butter came with them. Asked for another butter and was told it would be 50p extra!!!Tried the scone.....Dry almost stale and totally inedible.Staff not interested.Very average cup of tea. Avoid......

We have now been in here several times, we like the coffee a lot, the cakes and snacks are good, the music is generally good and at the right volume...the service is good, too.

This is the perfect place to start your visit to Deal. Independent. Reliable coffee, with all possible options. Delicious savouries and sweets for all the family. Good place to meet friends. Best location on the high street and very welcoming to visitors and their locals. Dog friendly.

Was drawn into place by classy kerb appeal.What a mistake.Total chaos,staff did not know pricing, and jam and butter were "extra" after paying for scone with jam! Now anyone ,and I mean anyone, ( I know because have food hygiene cerificates.) should NEVER wipe there nose on there finger,then serve food and prepare drinks.Was so shocked I changed my mind from having food.Would have mentioned it but did not want to have an awkward moment in the queue.

Only ever been in here for a coffee and cake (and once a very tasty sausage roll), but it is definitely a good place for an afternoon pit stop. Very good quality coffee and cake, can't comment about the other food on offer (apart from the sausage rolls which I think are fab). Really nice staff too. The more studious of you may recognise this cafe from the ITV series Liar; some scenes were filmed here!

Very nice coffee. Seating/ stools very uncomfortable. I like to to have a coffee and snack, and read the newspaper in the morning. Unfortunately each time that I have been in here, the door has been wedged wide open, even though the temperature was 0 degrees outside. It is too cold to stay more than a few minutes. I have spoken to other Deal residents that do not go here for the same reason. Good business acumen would dictate that guests are made to feel welcome. Not a place to go in the winter. Perhaps the idea was for a quick turnaround of customers. Instead I think it will lead to a loss of customers.

Visited twice here now once in November 2018 and more recently in December 2018 and have not been disappointed. Both times we were able to get a table for 4 of us - one time downstairs and once upstairs. Always aware that it can take time to make coffee/hot chocolate and it says it in the name but always always good to get a HOT Hot Chocolate! So very good to see independents that are fully staffed!! Yay!! Good for the Deal High Street Zone.

Fab coffee shop which has now been made even more delicious with new selection of yumminess for friends who can’t have wheat or are vegan.. offering a real difference on the high st here... I love all the independents in Deal and this is a great one, opening hours help too for us early Sunday morning dog walkers! Oh they’re welcome too and get to pose for their picture ☕️

Nice little coffee shop with friendly service and some nice seating areas by the window, where you can watch the world go by. Have a few food options, such as pasties, croques and cakes. I tried the chorizo pasty which was very tasty!

Having received a croque Monsieur placed on tissue paper causing the paper to stick to it and as a consequence my teeth and a cup of hot water with a tea bag and a thimble sized portion of milk and a banana that I did not ask for I mentally decided to just not come back. I told this to my friend. The staff member heard and with arms folded she challenged me loudly in front of a full cafe with "you got a problem?" I politely explained. Her reply was that the croque Monsieur is soggy so they have to put it on tissue paper!! And if I wanted more milk I should ask. But why should I queue up and ask when they should give you enough in the first place. She persisted to row with me so I had no choice but to leave . I asked her why she had bothered to ask about "my problem " if she had no intention of listening or understanding. So if you want a soggy toastie a tea bag in a bit of water and abuse from the staff go to Hope and Lane. I am never going back.

As a frequent visitor to Deal we had not been in this location before. It was Bank Holiday Monday and not many places open. Popped in for tea and cake. Tea was delicious and cake very good. Friendly staff. Well done

Good cafe that ticks most of the usual boxes. Curiously the flat white is far superior when made to take away than to drink in - the latter being more of a latte... Good ambience and a place to watch the world go by

Every time I’ve been in here, I’ve ordered something new; and I’ve never been disappointed. They have a nice range of drinks and a reasonable selection of cakes too. The staff are amazing and the shop itself is adorable.

Everyone appears to have it in for this little coffee shop which in my opinion does the job. I had a lovely cup of coffee with hot milk. The added bonus was the newspaper available to read. Don't like the pretentious nature of the main coffee houses

The coffee here is not great and judging by the reviews, I'm not the only one who thinks the coffee here is weak.

A group of 5 of us visited here today for hot drinks and cake (not me for once!)

From the outside it looks inviting so we thought give it a try forced to sit on a wooden bench very uncomfortable with a screaming child next to us thats no fault of the cafe a nice quiet coffee was spoilt by piped music the coffee was standard and the staff could do with a lesson in customer service

We popped into Deal and wanted a coffee and stumbled across this little gem. Lovely homely feel with lots of nice home cooked food. We had some great coffee and a fabulous cooked breakfast. Would thoroughly recommend and will return when next passing through.

4 of us had lunch at hope & lane at the weekend. the bill came to over £20. i gave my loyalty card in & the cashier said that i only get 1 point added (as it was only 1 transaction). i said it was however for 4 drinks & sandwiches but she refused to give me more. after lunch 1 of us had a cake, 1 transaction extra, but they refused to give us a loyalty point as it was only a cake (not a drink). i am confused. if they go to the effort of having a loyalty card, then i would think it needs to be fairer than my experience?

Nice place to be. Happy to see local family run independent business but I'm always saddened by the taste of the coffee. Not the best coffee in Deal by far. Please get the staff trained or passionate about coffee. It would be 5*

Me reuní con un viejo amigo para tomar un té y decidimos ir a la esperanza y Lane. Cuando mi amigo preguntó por dos tés, no le ofrecieron una elección. Me llegaron con una jarra de leche separada. El té era fuerte y no muy caliente, en cata, no era aceptable. Mencioné esto a un hombre joven que sirve y pedí más leche que el té no sabor agradable. Me pongo en la leche, pero aún así era desagradable (ambos vasos). Me preguntó cómo habían hecho el té y me dijeron que venían de una máquina. Entonces me explicó que era imbebible y desagradable. Pensé que quizás tenía algo equivocado con esta particular mezcla de té. Yo no disculpa de cualquiera de los dos miembros del personal, sólo un encogerse de hombros diciendo que salió de una máquina! Nos levantamos, pagamos por los tés totalmente horrible (intacta) y a la izquierda. No me decepcionó en la reacción del personal, ni disculpa, ni ofrecen un solución alternativa, él simplemente tomó el dinero!

Great coffee house,staff always happy. Super clean everywhere. Amazing selection of savouries etc deliciously served.also sweet .choice of hot and cold Also as nice if not nicer upstairs ,very spacious .Interesting seating although I feel some could be comfiest,Product of its own success ,sometimes too too busy ,increasingly popular .

Best 'Dirty Martini' If you've never had it, try it! It does get really busy in the evenings at the weekend.

Ask for the builders tea - hits the spot! We also had an assortment of breakfast items ( vegetarian) - all very good and value for money.

My husband and I visit this coffee shop most Saturdays .The staff are always cheerful and helpful.There is a good range of drinks on offer with a lovely selection of pastries to choose from.

Great coffee and we particularly like the ham and cheese whirls. Really lovely friendly atmosphere. Loyalty card gives you a free every 7th visit.

Eaten breakfast here loads of times - super value "Builders Breakfast" during the week and just a little more expensive at the weekend.Friendly staff and very laid-back all round - I wouldn't agree with other reviews saying it isn't clean or that it is scruffy - it is what it is and fantastic value with good quality ingredients!

Looked great from the outside but inside was let down by dirty chairs and tables. The view downstairs was not good either. No matter how good the coffee, at these prices you have to have the environment to match. My loose leaf tea was very good but my Croque Monsieur was let down by cheap ingredients and a sweet béchamel sauce. Could be so good.

Awesome coffee. All you need to know! More detail? The ambience of the place is great, feels kinda like it's straight out of a 40's subway, metallic pipes overhead, classic styles fans and bare light bulbs give a classy, yet modern atmosphere. They also have trained barrista's, who know the difference between a latte and a cappuccino, a macchiato and a cortado. They have personally selected the coffee that they serve, and will even grind some up for you to take away if you just can't get enough. Filter coffee, (remember that?) is actually served here too! And not stuff that has been sat on a hot plate for a week or two either, but one that has been individually made for ya. The food is real nice too. OK, so that's the coffee covered, then there is tea: wow. Best Earl Grey I have ever had. Beautiful, delicate flavour, with absolutely no astringency or bitterness at all. Really, really great, and I have tried it on a lot of different places. (They have a machine that brews it to a scientifically tested perfection apparently, I won't argue with that). OK, so if you have read this far . . . honestly, I don't work there, :D I just appreciate a great coffee, and this is now my standard that I compare all my take outs with. I don't mean to wax lyrical, or ramble on and on, (though I have obv.) but seriously, try it out, you may find yourself boring someone endlessly like I just have, cos ya like great coffee! Plus, the staff are all cool and serve a mean breakfast in their sister shop on the Strand.

I visited for a coffee and snack with my daughter, Hope and Lane is a fantastic experience and well worth a visit.Fantastic food and drink, service, and offers excellent value for money - a real surprise was that fruit or a bowl of crisps come with a tossed sandwich.Well done to the owners and team.

We had coffees here on Saturday. Positives: Great coffee and appealing contemporary decor. Negatives: Very poor service. A bit grubby. Asked for a latte with half a shot. Never been a problem elsewhere. After being told it wasn't possible, then told it was but would be charged the same as the other half would be wasted. Of course I expected it to cost the same and not to be told this. Girl behind the counter would have been better off cleaning the grubby tables and chairs rather than playing with her mobile. Didn't look good. There are better alternatives in the town.

Very nice decor but over priced. Our pastry was dry and slightly stale. Disappointing. Sadly their attention to detail is also lacking. We sat upstairs which had wonderful views of the old church and trees but we were unable to see them due to large over grown window boxes with dried up and dead plants in them. What a waste of such a lovely outlook. The loo seat hinges were broken and the seat therefore slipped. Nasty. There are so many great coffee and tea shops in Deal to choose from so I won't be going there again.

Very pleased with the soya coffee. They even left the shop to buy more soya that has never happened before so that was very nice. Little array of cakes. Dog allowed on the main floor which is a bonus for Bob .

This cafe looked good from the outside and did not disappoint once inside. The coffee is good and the pastries all look enticing. The muffins beat the ones you find in chain cafes by a country mile. Service was welcoming and friendly. There's limited space downstairs - the seats by the window are good for people-watching and enjoying a bit of breeze on hot summer days. There's also an upstairs area, which is a nice space to relax and chat.There is a fair bit of choice when it comes to cafes in the main street... Worth checking this one out (you'll be supporting independent business rather than the corporate coffee giants like Starbucks).

Have eaten English Breakfast now in the Walmer Strand Branch of Hope and Lane several times and it is fantastic. Great quality of food and cooked to perfection, with great coffee to go with it !

Lunch or brunch it's great for catching up with friends and having a choice of seating to view passers by or get cosy or be with family upstairs in the quieter space.

I have to say this place serves the most amazing coffee I have ever had!!! The staff are friendly too which is a bonus. Avoid the pastries and they were really stale, but the macaroons are lovely! Wish I'd tried the cake! Lovely decor! The coffee alone is enough to make me desperate to return!

I came upon this little cafe on the sea front after an early morning walk. Great choice of breakfasts, healthy ones too! Good priced menu with a quick and cheerful service. Quirky style menu, smart wooden tables with school type chairs. Only one point to make, it would be great if you could provide Sunday papers! A great plus are the sea views.

Had a lovely meal in Lanes several times now. Its trendy, great value and the food is great. Only exception is the Greek Salad which has hardly any Feta? Other portions generous.

Usually go in Hope and Lane on the Strand in Walmer for breakfast with friends. The food is unbeatable and great value, but more than that, the service is excellent, prompt and unfussy, staff always friendly and you always leave feeling that your day just got a bit better!! Thank you all.

I am a relatively infrequent visitor to Deal, but when in town I always stop in here for elevenses. Youthful pleasant staff, good coffee and nice snacks, cakes etc. A nice place to stop and spend twenty minutes, and read the paper.

Nice little shop on the main road. Fantastic selection of pastries. Nice coffee ....but no decaf. Staff were friendly and helpful. The toilets are upstairs...clean and tidy.The place is a mixture of 60 kitch and steampunk....scalfolding poles as bannisters. Brilliant place thoroughly enjoyed my visit.

Great coffee and nice mix of informal, vintage furniture to sit on. (More seating upstairs), A selection of muffins, cakes, biscuits and savoury items if you want a light lunch. Ask for a loyalty card and get a free cuppa when your card is full (it will not take long!)

A lovely warm atmosphere greeted with polite smiling staff very helpful and superior service with plenty of seating down stairs upstairs and outside. The coffee range is good with a good selection of tea and cold drinks.Freshly baked snacks and cakes. Easy access to car parks 5 mins,Stanhope road, Middle street and Union road and west street.

This small but quirky coffee house is a lovely place to stop and chill out over a nice coffee and a superb selection of snacks. Staff are friendly and welcoming.

Have been here a few times now and can recommend the coffee highly and the hot chocolate. The pastries and cakes all look delicious and enjoyed the chocolate brownies. The upstairs room was empty when we visited but in future will use it as it looked really welcoming. Loo clean and nicely appointed!

Went to The Lane on the Strand today for breakfast. Both breakfasts came with the sausages uncooked in the middle. We returned them and were told by the waitress that they would cook some more but they only looked pink due to the high meat content. The 2nd batch arrived and again they were pink in the middle. We told the waitress, who told the chef, who told her to tell us they were gammon and pork and were meant to look this pink. I said that didn't explain the raw texture or that they cold in the middle. We were advised that she only delivered the plates and that's what the chef told her. We left the sausages on the side and finished the rest of the breakfast. At no point did the chef pop out to see us even though he was only feet away. Neither did the owner talk to us despite hovering around the front of house. We were ignored for the rest of the meal after being made to feel, uneducated about the food we were eating and a pain in their butt. P.s. My partner is a qualified chef.....

On a cool morning walking through Deal, there was a choice of places to stop but Hope and Lane really called us! Their wares are fresh and exciting and their coffee of a high standard. Best of all they offer cortado! Of all the coffee styles on offer these days, a bona fide cortado is hard to find without spelling out what it is. There is seating of varying kinds at 2 levels and water in a jug. Toilets are spotless! Pleasant staff.

Deal is not exactly short of coffee shops so you would expect a new venture to offer something different or excel at service. This place is chaotic. Service is soooo slow. Now known amongst locals as Dope and Pain!

Resting in the "Upper- Reaches" of the south coast,is the sleepy town of Deal.I like Deal for this reason! Everything is laid back.However, go to Deal on a Monday, wanting a bevvy..No go. They are all closed....!This place was open. It looked quirkey? A bit hit & miss? In we went, so," Scores once in the doors"? Here goes;* On walking in, its fresh & different.* Seating seems " different". All seems to be miss & match. In a nice way.* We had cream teas..... A Dream.* Staff, very friendly. I like that.* Rest-rooms clean. My Wife like's that!You know that feeling, when you walk in that, all is well

As a regular in Hope and Lane I have always enjoyed the coffee and cakes they have to offer. Today however was very disappointing. The coffee as usual was good but the chocolate brownie provided was stale. Expecting at least a refund on the brownie I was told they would "Look into it", whatever that meant? As a minimum a fefund would have been acceptable. Sorry guys I expected more from you.

They do great coffee here and do it with a smile.There are a few more great places to drink coffee in Deal such as pop up, Issauras and Black Douglas but I love the look they have created at Hope & Lane and their brand is pretty cool too so I often end up in there for meetings and the like.Keep up the good work guys.
