I have been for the first time to this enchanting pub, the service was outstanding, everybody was friendly, I have been served by a lovely young lady called Bell. This time I came with my 2 doggies, the staff were happy with my doggies, so I feel welcome. I'm happy to returned. The food was yummy, I ate fish and chips, food was fresh. This pub is absolutely great. If you have pets go there and have fun.

A must visit in Rye- amazing steak!

Went there about 7pm on Sunday 7th April, and requested a table for two. Was seven others people there already, so fairly quiet. Informed that as it has been busy a lot of what was on the menu wasn't actually available, fair enough. Wanted "The Hen Burger". Ordered a Freak Shake, bottle of water and two Hoof Burgers. Took a while to get the Freak Shake, during this time one of the other diners was allowing their dog to bark in a virtually empty restaurant....The staff there didn't request it stop... Burgers arrived, looked different from how I remember... My Wife bit into hers and thick dark red blood came out of the patty, a couple of bites into mine, I discovered it too... Didn't want to stay for a replacement, paid for Freak Shake, my water and left... Third time being at Hoof in Rye, we hadn't been for a while as previously there was a group where every other word was "F", "S" and some "C" and prior to that a couple were having a massive argument.... Paid £15.95 for the Freak Shake and water (which wasn't San Pellegrino as stated), this confirmed not to ever visit again... The £15.95 I have just seen on my receipt, included a discretionary 10% Gratuity...!! Poor experiences... Shame....

Delicious rump steak. Was not very tender but very flavourful. Some of the best chips I’ve had. Dessert was ok - banoffee pie was very sweet. Poached pears was refreshing. Waitress was very friendly.

Had lunch here - 2 amazing dishes: crispy squid, beef short-rib and then the lamb burger was ok. This chips were also really good. Recommend a stop here.

Food was delicious (had the Sunday roast and mushroom burger without a bun), staff were very accommodating with requests for the dishes and helped choosing a wine. Atmosphere was cosy and intimate. Happily recommend.

One of the worst burgers I’ve ever had. Dry, stale bread, burger patty so dry it crumbled up. I was so disappointed after reading all the good reviews. The staff were really pleasant - super friendly. But the food was truly awful.

Very nice place, the steak was delicious, salad looked very nice and was tasty also, the best peppercorn sauce I have ever eaten and the waitress was smiling. I recommended it. Thank you

In a typically English manner, I’m sorry about this.. but.. the food we had today was very average and a bit bland (we had mushroom pasta) I would have mentioned this at the time but no one even asked how the food or our experience was, they just seemed mainly concerned with taking the money. The point of coming out to eat, hopefully is that it’s better than you could make at home and an all round enjoyable experience, this was not the case . I want to make it absolutely clear that I don’t blame the young staff in the restaurant, they were doing their best, but the manager or owner of the restaurant.

Good value for money for in Rye with a menu that is likely to please a crowd. We ordered salt & pepper squid and cauliflower croquettes to start, followed by a couple of burgers (attracted by the prospect of locally sourced beef). The squid was nice, but the cauliflower croquettes lacked flavour and perhaps could have done with more seasoning or some cheese. Our burgers were fine but the meat was a bit dry. They came accompanied with some excellent chips, however, as well as some astonishingly tasty pickle relish. We enjoyed the atmosphere inside the restaurant - there was a great playlist of millennial tunes to accompany our meal! I found the spotlight style lights a tad bright personally and think dimming the light in the restaurant would make it even nicer. Service was a bit slow to get going. I like to order drinks quickly after sitting down.

Food was absolutely exceptional. One of the best burgers I've ever had and my daughter's pork chop was ridiculous. Brilliant find.

I didn’t realise that my torte was a posh brownie. It was tasty though with a generous amount of hazelnuts and a fair scoop of tasty chocolate ice cream. It was tasty and it was definitely needed otherwise the warm brownie was moist, but it would’ve been dry without. It was definitely very indulgent and creamy and they definitely had used dark chocolate. Dave’s cheesecake was in quite a small pot, with a jelly like strawberry sadly it wasn’t that flavoursome. I misread the warm muled wine. It was cider and it sadly didn’t taste very cinnamony or festive. But the staff were helpful and they didn’t come and bother you and left you in peace. It was the end of day and going into evening. So I was tired. But a nice place but both places in Rye were expensive.

I had hogget burger , (was lovely &moist came with blue cheese,bit to strong in flavour , for my taste , took over the flavour of Hogget (I personally ,would have loved it ,served with Feta cheese, as came with hibiscus jam ). More in keeping with Turkish / Persian food . Would definately be back such a lovely menu ,both in food & wine . Great lovely friendly staff .

I absolutely loved this restaurant! It was so cozy and warm, the food was absolutely amazing and the price was soo good for the amount of food you get and the customer service was brilliant, the food was also brought to us very quickly. This restaurant has made me fall in love with Rye more, I will definitely be going there again!!!!

Walked in without a reservation, and judging by how many people they unfortunately had to turn away, we timed it well! We were warned of a 30-40 min wait in food as we were seated which was fine, and I didn't time it but I don't think it took that long for our two burgers to come out. The menu is varied, with a few daily specials too. Drinks were reasonable and again, a good selection. Our two burgers (one beef and one lamb) were delightful, and the fries some of the crispiest I've had in a while. The service stood out though, with the team being personable and friendly - impressive after working all through December in my opinion!

Wow! Hoof truly exceeded my expectations. The Hoof burgers with excellent chips were absolutely fantastic, and the festive burger was a delightful surprise. The sirloin steak was cooked to perfection, and the meat was top-notch. The staff were excellent, and the cozy atmosphere made the experience even more enjoyable. A definite 5-star experience - I can't wait to come back!

We had the Hoof burger, and the Mussels and chips. The burger was incredibly mediocre, the beef patty dry and overall tasteless. The mussels were better, but the butter taste was overwhelming. The atmosphere and staff were great though.

Nice place, cosy, homely and a different menu. I had the mini taco starter and would happily have it again. My brother had the short rib of beef and thought it was excellent. Coffee was really nice.

The Hoof served the best fries ever! The fries were clearly made with excellence and fresh from the farm! I was incredibly impressed - I hope they consider opening a branch near/in London!

First visit. Impression is good. Walked in with no booking, seated immediately. Casual atmosphere and I liked the wooden furniture. Food came in a reasonable time. Menu isn’t large so you won’t get confused. Steak was ok, not the best I’ve had but was still ok to have, cooked properly. Fries were very good. I loved the Tacos, they tasted really good and had generous amount of meat. This place is good for a casual date for sure and I would visit again when we I go to Rye.

Since moving to Rye in 2018 we have always been fans of Hoof! Courgette fries, freakshakes... and takeaway Sunday Roasts. Always tasty, fresh, traceable food and friendly service.

We have had some excellent meals here. Would heartily recommend

Great service from the waitress! The lamb burger was lovely and absolutely loved the complimentary fudge cake mini bites at the end, and the waitress generously gave us a box to take away of more fudge cake mini bites, plus the soup of the day was also lovely!

Last minute choice for the night…and what s lucky one! Flat Iron superb and even more for the price…highly recommended. The tacos were also incredibly tasty, better than in many Mexican restaurants I’ve tried! The service is really nice and attentive and the place is cozy and warm…without a doubt the place to go for a great meal in Rye!

We went to The hoof as we heard good feedback about this place. Lovely friendly service from the staff, we didn’t book so we just walked in. Got served drinks straightaway. The starters was good and well presented, me and my husband both had steaks for mains that were cooked perfect. We didn’t have dessert. It was all good but I wish they did garlic bread🤣.

Lovely food,roast a bit pricey. There were a lot of staff for very few people and considering the number of staff we still had to get their attention to get service. Not very professional, the young girl who had a woollen winter scarf wrapped around her head,talking loudly about everyone. For such a lovely restaurant,if the staff had some customer service training and respect for their customers it would be a fantastic restaurant. Maybe this was the reason that the Hoof was so quiet on a lovely dry Sunday afternoon/evening. We have visited this restaurant many times and never experienced such an awkward atmosphere. Behind the counter 2 chefs,1 kp and 3 waitresses,we were the only table in there,felt like we were intruding!

One of the best Sunday roasts ever tried. The beef was tender and juicy with an amazing gravy. The beef burger was really big and all the ingredients were super tasty. Cozy atmosphere and friendly staff.

First time and last here. Start with the place was cold sat by the door. Very squashed place. Food came out cold overpriced wasn't value for money by any means. Staff young but friendly lacked experience. By far better places to eat. Didn't pay for the meal. And won't recommend this place...

The sirloin steaks were so tough they were difficult to cut with a steak knife and one was returned as was definitely rare and medium was requested. The onion ring arrived cold and overcooked but the replacements were greasy and tasteless . One £31 pound fillet meal was served with a slice of mushroom which tasted like rubber . The fillet was good as was the peppercorn sauce but way over priced for the quality of the overall meal

Lovely food and beautiful inside. Great gluten free options, daughter had the burger with the gluten free bun and gluten free chips and I enjoyed the autumn soft tacos. Also dog friendly which was a pleasant surprise (always a challenge on holiday with a coeliac and a dog!). Would definitely come back, very friendly staff as well.

Oct 23 Lovely setting and visit recommended when in Rye. Staff very welcoming and helpful and attentive. Food was very good quality and cooked well. Moules and frites thoroughly enjoyed.

Put profit over loyal customers. We have been going to Rye for many years and have found the Hoof a very nice place to eat. Today my wife and I tried to book a table for two on 22nd of December months in advance and they refused. They will only take bookings for parties over seven. Shame as will not be going back booked a table for two at a competing restaurant.

Staff were very happy to have me eating here alone. Main veg burger unavailable but good alt. Thanks

Had a house hoof burger, felt it needed more of a generous amount of tomato, pickle and cheese as it was quite dry and hard work to eat, nice fries nice people though

A beautiful little restaurant with the most friendly and attentive service from the waiting staff. Although a little on the expensive side, the food was lovely. The staff tonight were a real credit to the restaurant and the chef was superb. Will definitely visit again.

With one notable exception, the service from the waitresses was useless. The atmosphere ruined by Elephants thundering up and downstairs in lead shoes and furniture being dragged across the wooden floors piercing the am ience with screeching wood. And that's before the food arrived: tasteless linguine and their chef clearly doesn't know the difference between blue and medium when it comes to cooking steak. Never again. Go the The Vine in Tenterden instead where they know how hospitality should look and create delicacies as delightful as their ambience for far less money!

Fantastic tasty food, excellent service from the staff, given the problems they were having with water shortages in the town. I had one of their specials from a board on the wall, a lamb burger - which was actually a double patty, boyfriend had a chicken burger, but they do more food than just burgers! Lots to choose from their menu. both our meals were cooked perfectly ,didn’t have to wait long either. But weren’t rushed to finish them which was great. They don’t take bookings, it’s walk-in only - Great little restaurant, lovely ambience - highly recommend a visit here! 5* !!!!

Being Ceoliac I was very nervous about eating out - I have been glutened a couple of times by restaurants. This was amazing! A fabulous choice, knowledgeable staff and very reassuring. The meal was to die for. I will be back

We have been here before and been pleased. However, this visit was not so good. Chips were dry and only just warm but my wife’s fish on the specials board was good. Service was a bit lackadaisical and with no obvious supervision in place. With so many very good food places in Rye, sadly we’re not particularly inclined to make a return visit.

Really delicious burger, lovely fries and nice, welcoming waitresses. We both had burgers, so can’t comment on the steaks but def worth the money for burgers! Delicious ‘banoffee coupe’ for pudding. Nice, cheaper option in rye too, as some places are very fancy! This is still lovely though.

Mixed review unfortunately. Food and general service was very good. Prices are far too high. £29.50 for a ribeye that was slightly over cooked. It was a 28dc hot day and walking into the restaurant it was even hotter. My toddler who has sensory issues became very irritated very quickly and I kept popping outside with him to cool down. Staff explained why they couldn’t have air conditioning but much to my disappointment and disgust, half way through our dinner I spotted a fan behind the bar that the staff were huddled behind. Now I appreciate it’s also hot for the staff but they were not rushed off their feet and as far as our party were concerned the fan should have been on the bar circulating around the small hot restaurant. Especially as it was a young toddler with sensory and special needs who was suffering the most.

My ‘Hoof’ burger was a delicious, perfectly cooked (medium rare) and fresh-tasting burger. On it and in the side salad were the home-made pickles - thinly mandolined lengths of cucumber - in a very light vinegar. On the burger was also a big, fresh, ripe beefsteak tomato and some fresh salad leaves. On the side were chips of a beautiful fresh tasting potato and not too greasy. (Proper Heinz Ketchup in bottles rather than packets!) Pretty close to a perfect burger - and I’m American and have had quite a few! My only gripe was that the brioche bun (although delicious) wasn’t warm and toasted which would have perfected the meal.

We had excellent service from Katie! Not only did she accommodate our group of 8 as walk in customers, she got our orders through to the kitchen before it closed. We enjoyed the rib eye steak and Tyson Bull burger. Service with big smiles. Would recommend

The food was nice but EXTREMELY OVERPRICED. I paid 21£ for a bowl of pasta with a few bits of chicken. It is literally london prices and not suited for the locals. ( I did not realise the pasta was so expensive as the server asked me if i wanted chicken and it added an extra 5£ on to the meal)

I went for lunch with a few of my friends for a meal at around 2 ish and may I say is this place meant to be a second hooters? One of the staff was in a short black dress, which may I add you could see everything which wasn’t the most comforting whilst having our meal and then followed by another girl with a short crop top.I’m sorry but we spoke to another couple where we was staying and they said the exact same about the servers clothing choices, so not me just complaining. Other than the dress code! The food was to die for and made us all fully stuffed for the day and night ahead and was perfect portions for the prices. I fully recommend the hoof, but also recommend a readjustment of what is suitable to be wearing waitressing people.
