Never have I walked out of a cafe in my 62 years, most disgusting breakfast I've ever tasted, took one fork of the baked beans and that was it. My daughter had a baked potato that was hard, reheated and powdery white round the edges. The cafe itself had seen better days and one of the regulars was ranting to himself, swearing. He turned down my offer of a free breakfast. I didn't even have the energy to ask for my money back. Once bitten, twice shy. They must of paid for for their 5 star reviews because 5 star it is not🤷

Comfy feel good food at a low price. Warming on a rainy day. Ken is a great welcoming host, always brings a great smile to our family.

Great place to eat, reasonably priced for good home cooked food. Really large portions. So great value for money. Had a lovely roast lamb dinner. The service is brilliant, the owner is really hard working and has had the cafe since 1975, he is such a happy, helpful caring person. All staff are great and hardworking and always helpful. The atmosphere is great friendly and cosy atmosphere. Situated in the heart of Folkestone near the shops and near the old high street.

We had the Hillside bubble and squeak, unusual recipe and very satisfying. Would recommend.

A hidden gem, it is very easy to miss as it is down a side alley but it is definitely worth a visit. The atmosphere is good, it has quite a nice homely vibe as it feels comfortable and familiar even if you haven't been there before. The food is cheap, cheerful and good for filling an empty stomach. £1 for a cup of tea. Ken is a delightful gentleman to be around. I accidentally knocked over my coffee and he brought me a new one with an interesting anecdote about it not being too bad in the grand scheme of things so I shouldn't worry about it. I will likely come again on my next visit to Folkestone.

Had the worst cup of tea ever. Also chips were soggy and the ketchup was sweet.

Great choice of food. Reasonable prices. Ken is lovely and your doggie gets a dish of treats as well - bacon, sausage. Highly recommended

An amazing place! The atmosphere is unique. Ken is such a gentleman and the members of staff are so sweet. This is the best cafe in Folkestone. You should definitely visit it!

Ken is an old, retro guy, affable in his red-striped apron. Anyway, bad point first: the eggs were solid. So hard it must be deliberate by the tall blonde cook. Some people do prefer hard-fried eggs, I guess; but I prefer them runny. Hard eggs are eaten too quickly, and they remove the pleasures of mixing flavours by dipping. Other than that, it was a satisfying breakfast. Huge portions for £9, including a tea. Unusually, they do fried potatoes, so that was a rare treat. Grilled tomatoes, mushrooms, baked beans, toast.

Popped in for a drink and quick snack...was served by a very polite gentleman..food was nice..we went in afternoon so a bit more quieter but will go back again.

Ken the owner is terrific , a great Guy, Rachel just keeps going, really lovely woman, always got a positive attitude, the food is out of this world, cooked to perfection, it cannot be faulted in any way. Best place in Folkestone 👍👍👍👍👍

A cafe run by an elderly gentleman that has a big heart for under privileged people so he keeps prices low and helps out wherever he can. He's not running it any more for profit.

Couldn't fault what I had omelette and chips, freshly made, no oil or grease, very nice, well priced in todays climate.

Lovely and pleasant cafe that is frequented by the local community... Was there for an early meeting and thought I'd give this place a try... Located quite centrally in Folkestone this place is what you expect from a cafe with a nostalgic decor and atmosphere... The staff were lovely and friendly, with equally pleasant service... I had ordered the scrambled eggs on toast with a glass of orange juice and it was what I needed to start the day off... Very reasonably priced food with lovely staff who has a close connection to the local community and make everyone feel welcome...

Simple place but quite central. Will do anything to please, any meal any drink. Not too expensive too. Has toilet facilities. Open 8.30 am till around 5.30 pm most days including weekends. No parking nearby. But very close for the beach, the harbour and Folkestone Central shopping.

Food great and charged at fantastic prices I last saw in the 1980s. Ken such a Gentleman and his able Cook and assistant was working her socks off. Our 4 y.o. Grandson spilt his chocolate milkshake all over the table and floor. Ken sorted the table in no time and his aide likewise appeared like magic with the mop. Ken told our Grandson it must have been a slippery glass and was not his fault. We apologised as they are busy people, and were charmed by this smiling man when he returned a few minutes later with a free replacement. Such charm and customer service rarely seen these days.

So pleased to have found this place. An 'old school' café with a great breakfast offering. Sensationally good value. It's cash only, but on my first visit I only had Euro's in my wallet from an old holiday. But friendly proprietor Ken cheerfully accepted them and I've been a regular customer since. Highly recommended.

I come here a couple times a week for a milky coffee and egg a Sarnie good old fashioned grub the milky coffee is not the rubbish you get from a machine but real milk 👌 Also dog friendly and staff are friendly and Ken is always out wiping the tables n chairs. If you want expensive ponsie food go else lol

I used to take my children in here approx 25years ago and was pleased to see it was exactly the same when I took my granddaughter yesterday. Same lovely friendly gentleman that runs it 😀

A proper throw back cafe more unattributed to a past gone era. First time visiting this place , Ken was great, food inexpensive. Lived here for over ten years now and never knew this little Folkestone gem existed, well worth a visit

Visited on bank holiday Monday ..wow worst food ever mash potatoes so many lumps our food didn't come together my lamb chop not edable egg disgusting carrots burnt somehow I no the place has lot of history but ..how is it still allowed to serve food

Inexpensive, Ken is always friendly. Good location, but felt you couldn't take your time in there. Food was tasty, although felt the place could have been a tiny bit cleaner.

It is a good place to sit and have tea, coffee, and something to eat.

I visited here with 5 children. The portion sizes and prices for what you received was fantastic. The food was lovely and hot and full of flavour. Above all the staff were amazing and so friendly. I assume he’s the owner- an older gentleman- was brilliant with the children. Making them laugh, and then he gave them a bowl of ice cream each, for free! What a kind thing to do. I will definitely be back when I visit folkestone again. Thank you so much for your kind service!

Had a fantastic roast dinner and my friends had battered cod & chips. Beautifully fresh and huge portion sizes. This is a basic-looking Café, but don't be fooled by appearances .... the food is excellent 👌

Whatever I say it won't be enough to describe how friendly,polite and nice the staff is! If you forgot what it is to have this atmosphere and have a proper,healthy,prepared with love food-PLEASE VISIT! After wondering and searching for a different and healthier dish,we ended up here!I visited every day until my vacation in Folkestone. Unfortunately, nowadays people look and search for places which look more fancy and doesen't care what the food is. Also,PRICES are great! This cafè had an old fashioned theme. The food was tasty and value for money. The staff was friendly but we didn’t feel safe during this pandemic times as no one was wearing a mask! The toilet was not the tidiest and cleanest.

The food is classic British greasy spoon - exactly what we wanted. We were hungry and needed a proper breakfast - eggs, toast, beans, sausage, tomatoes etc, you name it, they give you exactly what you want. Very friendly towards the children, good prices too. This cafe does exactly what it says on the tin.

Awful cheap bap,sausage had no flavour.Toilet facilities were disgusting and we didn't feel safe in this current climate.

I should have tried out this cafe sooner, a friend recommended it to me last week and we popped in for a coffee and tea cake, great prices, Ken and his staff friendly and a very nice atmosphere all round. Will visit again.
