We have been here and eaten probably six times this year and I absolutely rate it. The staff are always happy and helpful (especially the younger ones which I thought might be a bit surley)! The atmosphere was lovely and sometimes there is a big queue but hey that’s not the end of the world, if you want quick service go to McDonald’s (debatable I know!!) We last had an afternoon tea, which was lovely, the only thing I would suggest to put you above everyone else, is to provide a selection of sandwiches you can choose when ordering, I would have an afternoon tea again if I could have tuna or cheese! But I won’t as you don’t. The actual garden centre is way better than Rosebournes which was just a glorified gift shop with restaurant. The selection of plants and outdoor furniture etc is superb. Keep going Hillyers the Weyhill store has really benefited, although some of the Rosebourne staff you still have are a bit on the miserable side the newer staff are far more helpful, you are doing great!

Awful. Just Awful. Staff are almost as inept as the food is awful. This was always so nice. How have the new owners managed to ruin it.

Online ordering not working. Only one member of staff taking orders from a very long queue. Gluten free scone not fresh, looked like it had been microwaved in its sealed bag. Unnecessary plastic pots used for cream and jam. Tasted awful. Pot of tea came long after food arrived. Staff friendly.

Sadly, this place seems to be on a downward spiral. We've been a few times this year and on each occasion it seems to have got worse. Waiting times have got longer on each visit and staff look frazzled - they are clearly understaffed and/or training is lacking. The food quality isn't a patch on Rosebourne's and in fact it's also getting worse. We ordered risotto and a chicken burger. The risotto was dry and the burger was bland and had just been slapped together with a great big iceberg lettuce leaf and so much mayo that I needed to scrape it out. The overall experience and value for money is pretty poor - come on Hilliers, pull your socks up!

We’ve eaten here three time since the ownership changed to Hilliers. First time I had a tuna mayo baguette. It was inedible. They did offer to replace it with something else by I was really put off by that point. We then had a cream tea on our next visit. They don’t do butter with the scone! We went in for afternoon tea today but it is now only available if booked 48 hours in advance.

We have had lots of good meals / coffee / cake at the restaurant when it was Rosebourne. Since the takeover things have steadily declined on the food front. Hilliers is an excellent garden centre, their plants are great but they haven't managed to get the food right. Yesterday's lunch was seriously awful. Jacket potatoes where very hot with stone cold fillings. The potatoes were mushy and yellow inside a leathery, thick skin (we think probably cooked hours before and reheated), a few leaves on the side and a spoonful of coleslaw. I had the coronation chicken sauce which was inedible, no taste of curry to it, in fact, no discernible flavour at all. Stone cold (as from a fridge) and I couldn't eat it. Priced at £9.99 it was very poor value for money. Meals offer quantity (lots of stodge) but the quality is not there. We won't be eating here again.

Sat eating lunch and the next minute there is a waitress with a trolly next to my table scaping food and slops into a tub and filling up other tubs with various crockery and glasses, the trolley remained next to my table whilst she cleared several other tables, she looked miserable too. Not a pleasant experience whilst trying to eat. The food isn't very good, budget produce and quite costly for what you get it's gone very downhill since becoming Hillier's.

My friend and I took a 3rd friend for a birthday lunch. We ordered a roast pork and roast beef dinner plus a baguette with salad and lemon pie to follow. We waited more than 45 mins for our food and when it finally arrived, the roast dinners were cold = not even slightly warm. I sent mine back and it finally arrived again - microwaved to very hot and this made the pork rubbery and the veg soggy. I couldn't eat mine and my friend struggled. Our lemon pie was no longer available so we had to choose an alternative - why didn't they put it by when we ordered?. No sign of a senior member of staff and although the youngsters do their best, there's not enough of them and they need further training. We shall not go again.

We arrive for breakfast at 11:05 this morning. We waited behind eight other people in the queue and eventually made it to 2nd place. This was roundabout 11.15 only to be told by a member of staff that they were no longer serving breakfast as they had had a fire in the kitchen and we could have teas and coffees, but strangely enough, they serve the four people in front of us and found them a table for breakfast And they were also serving breakfast to all the others that were in front of us I would suggest that they get their act together. If you wish to visit this place, it’s potluck you may get served you may not I would also suggest that you don’t go there for dinner today, as I’ve had a fire in the kitchen and you will not get served ????????? One very disgruntled customer welcome to their restaurant 😡😡😡

We used to come here once a week when it was Rosebourne, when the restaurant used to have standards and the food was high quality. Now ever since hillier have taken over it’s gone down hill. Cheap terrible quality flavourless produce. We came for lunch, both ordered fish and chips once it arrived my partner within eating a couple of mouthfuls had found 5-7 fish bones. we got refunded for that. But we didn’t appreciate in the slightest, the server, Sylvia I think her name was trying to pull the wool over our eyes by saying our fish and chips comes with bones!!! When I questioned her, “does she enjoy eating fish bones then?” She then went on to say when she orders fish and chips she expects to have to fish out the bones and that it’s normal for the fish fillet to not be boneless! Anyways this isn’t the first time since the change over from the Rosebourne to hillier that we’ve had problems with the food and the so called service. We definitely would not recommend this restaurant and we won’t be returning as nothing seems to change. And going by the reviews I’m not the only one who is not impressed at all.

We went for a Christmas treat for our little one to buy a decoration and have some cake. Decided to have a meal there. Mistake. Venison Pie “special” festive was a dry tiny shortcrust pie, half filled with maybe 2 or 3 tablespoons filling maximum. Stingey on mash. Other family member’s meals, average at best. Very pricey for what you get. Not going back at all. Staff nice.

The meagre staff really try their best to keep this cafe running. The cafe is average at best, and I've heard it was once a great place to eat before the new owners took over. But alas, no more. Food poor. Selection dire. The queues waiting to be seated ( they had closed off half the café due to staff shortages) were long and tbh, really not worth the wait.

My sister and I ate here when it was Rosebourne and had a fantastic lunch so happily took our other sister for a treat on Saturday 25th November 2023. We were advised that the wait for food would be 30 min, we ordered from the App at our table, I was charged twice and my sister had to use the counter as App wouldn't work. 45 min later one meal arrived, a bit later my burger arrived looking as can be seen in the photo, I am immune suppressed and have to follow guidance on eating undercooked minced meat, I explained this to whom I assume was the manager who told me that this is how they are supposed to look due to the density of the meat? I still requested that it be cooked thoroughly, she took the plate aggressively, repeating there is nothing wrong with it...hence I took the photo! 35 minutes later the burger made another appearance, minus the original sauces and thoroughly cremated. I did get a refund at this point and we left.

Arrived when just open. Just two people already seated. Lots of staff in restaurant, but all chatting. One did apologise to me and the ladies behind for the wait. Tried to order at the till, had to go through the order at least 3 times. Tea, toast and marmalade. Tea came quickly. Milk jug left in cup, waitress quickly went away. Tea spoon very dirty with a large lump of what looked like chocolate on it. Waitress came back with toast and 2 portions of butter very hard and impossible to spread. No marmalade, but asked me if I wanted jam or marmalade. Said I’d ordered marmalade and also asked for a clean spoon. Tea pot badly chipped, needed throwing away, bacteria issue. Staff were sometime going through cutlery tray trying to find and clean up a spoon to bring. Waitress returned put down spoon and a pot very quickly and went away. She had delivered jam. Also nothing to spread it with. I went to counter, swapped the jam for marmalade and got a knife. The waitress said that they were short staffed ( looked like there were plenty to me) and it was her first week. I remarked that it had really gone downhill sine Hilliers had taken over from Rosebourne. I used to be a very regular customer, but certainly no more. Very disappointing and quite sad it’s gone the way it has.

What a super restaurant. I’m now using this place to meet up with friends. Lovely friendly bunch of staff who welcomed us to the restaurant, fabulous breakfast, coffee and such a selection of cake. Staff didn’t rush us even though they were busy. Really good quality of food at a fair price. Didn’t feel as though you were getting ripped off. I don’t often post but have to give credit where credit is due. Well done Hilliers!

I went here to meet with friends. The service was good but some of the waitresses were a little inexperienced. They were very pleasant and welcoming though and this outweighed their inexperience. We all had the sweet afternoon tea. There was unlimited tea however when we asked about this at the point of paying we we’re told the afternoon teas were for two people and there was a drink each. It was only at the very end another lady explained we could have asked for more tea at any point. The sandwiches were very tasty but there were only egg mayo and ham and tomato. No cheese or salmon and the ham sandwiches had nothin apart from butter ham and raw tomato. They were enjoyable but I’ve had more exciting combinations elsewhere. The scone was lovely as was the jam but the cream felt like slightly loose whipped cream not clotted cream which was a shame. The cakes were for me disappointing. There was a coffee cake ( I hate coffee) a slice of what seemed like a tray bake with hundreds and thousands, an apple crumble slice ( I don’t like cooked apples) and an eclair. There was also a sickly cream thing in a shot glass that looked pretty but wasn’t nice to eat. I am sorry to say it was disappointing as the last time I had a cream tea here, when it was Rosebournes, it was delicious. I will eat here again as they have lots of other lovely food but I won’t have an afternoon tea here again after this. It’s a shame really as I was expecting much more from them. I still had a lovely time With my friends and it’s a nice setting. The shopping area and garden centre are also very lovely.

OH DEAR! My friend and I meet here regularily and theres always been good food at Rosebourne. Now its changed to Hiller, it was literally terrible. I saw some tasty quiches on the deli counter and thought oh good looks good. I sadly got a defrosted soggy quiche, with onion chutney in the base [ listed as cheese and onion] It was literally running in liquid when I lifted the cheese on top. Disgusting and because I had to try it as it didnt arrive with my friends lunch and I felt I had to hurry,I had an upset stomach friday night ! The staff were helpful and changed it, but what are the chefs and Hillier doing. You cant charge £8 plus for a heated frozen quiche with a few leaves and 1 tomato. Order them as on the deli. Looks like we have to meet elsewhere now sadly.

I ordered a focaccia sandwich. Focaccia dough has dimples in it usually with sea salt and olive oil perhaps some rosemary…..Hilliers clearly aren’t aware of how you actually make this ….but charge you £7.99 for the privilege of whatever that tasteless excuse was. It was simply like cardboard. The menu is much reduced since the days of Rosebourne which is shame because they clearly have a substantial well equipped kitchen they have chosen to not to utilise. I won’t be returning and will tell anyone that asks not to bother.

I was shopping at Newbury retail park. When I had finished I fancied a coffee so went into Starbucks. When I went to pay with cash I was told that they are cashless. I reluctantly paid with my card. I will not be returning. Costa on the same retail park is always busy and full of life. They are happy to take my cash.

I grew up in Chieveley and was back visiting my parents with my partner on 5th Nov. Hearing that the garden centre had had a new extension we thought we’d drop in. My partner said he fancied something savoury so we dropped in at the restaurant in the older part of the garden centre. We ordered and got sat down, I then went off to use the loo and found another lady in there wondering around and she said there was no loo roll in any of the cubicles. She had managed to get some from the disabled loo and shared it with me. I then told one of the members of staff with a trolley that there was no loo roll and she said she wasn’t sure if it was ‘their’ responsibility. And walked off to check. She then came back to our table to tell me that as she thought ‘they’ don’t have access which I assume she meant rosemary and thyme - at this point our hot roof had arrived - she then told me how they don’t have a key for the cupboard and can’t get to the loo rolls and that I would have to go and tell the staff in the new section as it’s their responsibility…. That would have meant me leaving my coffee and hot food - going out in the rain walking across the carpark through the new bit to find someone to tell….And I thought ok maybe you don’t have a key but how ridiculous to expect a paying customer who just sat down with hot food to go and tell another member it staff?!!! The lady should have just gone over and told the other section when I first told her. Also being a morning and for there to be no loo roll in what looked like 4+ cubicles and not checked before opening for business that day when you’re serving food and drink is just not on. Cost of living makes you really question where you spend on food and drink / treats. It’s just so disappointing.
