THE GOOD My partner and I often come here for coffee as the surroundings are beautiful with such a good ambience. We made arrangements with friends to have lunch so we suggested we come here as it was a beautiful sunny day. THE BAD Food isn't cheap here but if the food is great then it's a real treat. I ordered a spicy cauliflower salad as a starter to be healthy. When it arrived it came in a tiny bowl which was half filled with oil. Looking at it there was no way I could eat it. I showed it to a member of staff who agreed it didn't look very nice. She said she would get me another one without all the oil. The second salad arrived with just as much if not more oil. I pointed it out to the waitress and told her that the description of the dish on the menu didn't mention an oily dressing. I was offered a refund which I took and my partner gave me half of his lunch. Please reexamine the wording of the dish when putting it on the menu because it would have saved me being embarrassed. I most certainly wouldn't eat there again.

I don't know why I keep returning to this restaurant - it certainly is NOT for the food. I came on March 3rd with a group of colleagues, ten of us in total. I wanted the evening to be a delightful celebration as we were saying goodbye to a friend who was retiring but it fell woefully short of expectations. I had rung to check that the booking for 10 was secure and to tell the venue that this was a meal that really mattered, that with ten of us there there would be ten enthusiastic recommendations leaving when we left, if it all went well. I explained that I had been before and had complained bitterly about the poor food - my partner that night had concealed his feelings of nausea at the time. So this time, it had to be better and I was assured that though there was no permanent Head Chef, someone was overseeing the food and it was much, indeed, much better. How wrong he was! Three of us ordered the fish pie. When it came, the plate that held the dish containing the pie was scalding hot but the contents of the dish were lukewarm at best. There was a nasty, greyish glutenous sauce over the top which put me right off. If I had not been with nine others I would have complained but I didn't want to spoil the evening. Instead, I waited until the end to do it. The two others who had ordered the fish pie agreed that it had been barely warm and the one who was retiring said that it might have been tolerable if she had found any fish. Most of her pie was lumps of grey, tepid potato. How can any chef get fish pie SO wrong?! My complaint - on behalf of all three of us resulted in having the cost of those three meals struck from the bill, which was a clear admission of guilt. Driving home, I was seriously worried about the negative impact of eating tepid fish. Someone had said: 'Don't they have to ensure that food is at the right temperature before it comes out of the kitchen?' Clearly not at Hall & Woodhouse, Taplow. No-one said that they had enjoyed their meals - I guess they just kept quiet. As host and organiser, I was embarrassed and annoyed. Annoyed because I had deliberately rung the restaurant and told the person to whom I spoke that this meal really mattered, embarrassed because it reflected badly on me. Why oh why can't a beautiful venue like this one, next to the Thames, get the first principle of dining out right? All we want is food as lovely as the place, home made, appealing and delicious. Clearly it's too much to ask. I do NOT recommend it. We will not be returning.

Been to this lovely location a few times for drinks. Great to sit by the river. But was a Sunday early evening and we wanted to eat. The food was terrible. I had a steak pie (ready meal) which was ok but the mash and red cabbage was like warm at best. My wife had roast beef. The beef was virtually inedible, had clearly been cooked all day. Veg were overcooked and nothing was hot. Very poor.

If you’re visiting this establishment, don’t come if you’re in a rush, we visited on a Tuesday evening early December, and after being seated it took more than 30 minutes to receive our drinks (a pint of beer & a pint of coke) our food followed literally moments after. We did enjoy the food, but felt our experience overall was disappointing.

We had a fantastic waiter named Jack who apparently only works on Saturdays - he was an absolute treat with a great sense of humour, recommended an excellent dish for my partner and provided superb service. Other staff members, TJ, who served our wine with a big smile and warm welcome and then we also met another Jack, a manager I assume, who just came over to ask how our meal was. I have to say that the staff were amazing and very professional - a well co-ordinated team - uninvasive, yet very engaging. The food was excellent and we didn’t realise it was a family restaurant. I will be bringing my kids next time for sure. Thank you. Ginni & Eddie. :-)

Visited for the first time today and was pleasantly surprised how warm and welcoming the whole vibe of the place was. Tastefully decorated for Christmas and nicely lit with with a wood burner to complete the look. Tables are nicely spaced so we could comfortably chat without disturbing others nearby. The food was hot, very tasty and portions were just right. We were served by a young lady called Fallon who was attentive, friendly and always maintained a smile. Will definitely be returning.

We were a large table to celebrate the birthday of a good friend. Food was great, service was pretty good although rather slow (waited for an hour), and the fun atmosphere was certainly a reason to return

Paid £9.45 for a Long Island Iced Tea which was a glass full of ice. There must have only been 100ml liquid in it. What a rip-off! Did I complain - no, because there was only one member of staff taking orders, clearing plates and serving food so it was utter chaos. We were going to have coffee but gave up as no-one was there to take the order and no-one was interested in attending to us. We waited 20mins for the bill and couldn’t get out of there quick enough. Rubbish experience.

Such a warm welcome from staff, place was very busy because the sun was shining. Food was good and plenty of it! One downside for me, far too many dogs inside the restaurant! Some whining and even some begging at tables. If they must bring their animals out with them to eat, surely an outside table would suffice. It was rediculous, it spoiled our experience.

We had a table booked and we were pleasantly surprised how nice it was to be greeted enthusiastically and made to feel welcome! The decor is interesting and very pleasant. The menu has lots of choices and when it arrived the food came out nice and hot, and was really well presented. Drink refills were offered in a timely manner and the waitress made sure we had all we needed. Our party consistsed of ages ranging from pensioner down to 12 years old and everyone had a fabulous time. Checkout the outside furnished areas and the wonderful riverside if you do visit. I would recommend your trying it for yourselves.

We went last Sunday at 6 pm for supper having been several times before as we are fairly local. We were informed that there were quite a few dishes not available which was disappointing but at least we were told straight away. The food that we chose was very tasty and arrived quickly- in fact before our drinks which was slightly annoying. When we ordered deserts the ones we wanted were no available however Jack asked us to chose alternative desets which he deducted the cost off our bill and was very apologetic. He explained that they were very short staffed. Despite the limited menu we enjoyed our visit and felt that the food and service - especially from Jack were good and we will go back

Lovely setting, table outside overlooking the river. You order and pay for food at the bar when you arrive, giving them the number of your chosen table. We had a club sandwich and a halloumi wrap, both were very tasty and arrived promptly. It was a busy Bank Holiday lunchtime too with lots of people sitting out enjoying the sunshine. This was our second visit. We had a disastrous experience at Christmas when our food was cold and inedible and service very slow. So pleased we decided to give it a second chance today! Will definitely go back.

Ordered a bitter shandy, took one sip to find the lemonade element was non existent. Returned drink to the bar to advise, young lady tested the lemonade from the dispenser and said oh yes the syrup has run out. We'll get the barrel (or whatever rhese syrups come in) changed, asked me to take a seat. After 15 minutes went to enquire about my drink, was told still sorting it. After another wait the drink appeared, personally couldn't taste much difference from the first drink. Took one mouthful and left the rest. This venue is really lovely and has potential to be something special, but as it stands I definitely won't be returning. Took my appetite and lunch money to the George on the Green at Holyport, amazing as usual. .

We were hesitant to come here after looking at some of the reviews. However, I have to say a massive thank you to Issy, our waitress, who was brilliant. The food was nice - nothing amazing but nice. There was an issue with my husband's starter, but Issy immediately apologised, dealt with it, and gave him a different starter. She also kindly took the starter off of the bill. Service was excellent - not too quick but also not too slow. The surroundings of the restaurant are lovely, looking out onto the river. The inside is also really nicely decorated and has a good vibe.

A gorgeous and perfectly situated restaurant, right alongside the Thames. A great range of beers and spirits, and an excellent atmosphere amongst staff and guests. The food is excellent, and the bar staff, waiters/waitresses are extremely pleasant. I was surprised at the very competitive prices considering the location, and will definitely re-visit. The car park certainly caters for the size of the place too, with ample space to cater visitors. Well worth a visit if you’ve never been.

I have visited H&W three times. The restaurant and location are lovely. Right by the river and busy atmosphere. However, on the first occasion we had consulted the online menu and had decided to have pancakes with fruit. We don't enjoy cooked breakfast so this seemed a good choice. However, when we arrived at 10:40 we were told that brunch was not served until 11:30. We decided to wait and have a coffee. At 11:30 we went to the bar and asked for pancakes only to be told that they don’t do them! I showed the manager the online menu and he apologised that it had not been updated. I have since checked the online menu 10 days later and the pancakes are still on the menu along with a photo of them! This week, I visited again twice and had a coffee with my daughter and again with a friend. There were no croissants baked and the only 'morning' food available was on a reduced breakfast menu. On both occasions, we were offered croissants which needed to be baked by the chef and had to wait 20 minutes. It would be really good if croissants and pancakes were readily available in the mornings and also, maybe granola, yogurt and fruit. Just a suggestion. I can tell that the restaurant is very popular but, for me, a healthy brunch would be a good choice. Not sure if I will go again unless it is just for coffee!

This is a stunning location right on the river, it's full of atmosphere and should be great experience , however appearance can be deceptive! We came earlier in the day from a drink post a long walk the person serving was more interested in getting her mates the friends and family discount as opposed to getting our drinks . On returning in the evening where we had booked we were shown to our table and as soon as we said we would like to sit out side our server just said help your self and order at the bar. Then proceeded to tell us that 3 items of the main were not available this was 7:30 pm on a Monday. The food arrived and I would say it was mediocre and over priced for what it was. Other observations included that tables were not cleared in a reasonable time scale . To allow other patrons to sit at a clear table one couple sat on a table that had not been cleared after two sets of couples had had drinks the glasses just piled up.

I was looking for some cosy space with good coffee to do remote work on Sunday evening, and Creams Cafe seemed to be the only one in the area open till late, which is a great advantage. I spent my Sunday afternoon there and had fantastic chocolate cake & coffee - both great, but more variety of some vegan food options would be even more amazing. I would suggest adding some electric points, as there were none available, otherwise I would have stayed there till later; although I must admit one of the staff members very kindly offered me cable extension for my laptop. Excellent customer service, I got help with internet and also they checked dietary requirements for me. Thank you!
