The King and Castle in Windsor and Maidenhead

Christmas menu started yesterday, went for the turkey panini 5* A couple of pints, service great. Went downstairs in the pub , really relaxed. Lovely meal/helpful at the bar/ lovely chips !- recommended.

Came here for supper between a duck tour and comedy night. The food was excellent as were the staff in providing it, but the WiFi reception in the area with the majority of power sockets is absolutely appalling. I had to waste over an hour there waiting for my devices to charge up before I had to relocate to an area without sockets but decent Internet before I could order.

Let’s be real you get what you pay for if you’re with friends or family and you want a quick bite and a drink on a budget this is the place the food is fair to middling and the drinks are good value. If you’re with friends want fine dining look somewhere else

A really good Spoons! Very big pub and in a great position opposite the castle in Windsor. Only pub open when we were there for an early lunch before midday. Good value...

After visiting the castle for a day, of course I have to take a good rest and enjoy my favorite "fish and chips"! Delicious meals and a comfortable space, this is the perfect place to enjoy a good meal after a day's travels!

Service was good and it's a nice place to bring the family. I expected the selection of beer and cider to better, as the Wetherspoon pubs usually have a huge selection. But it was OK. The menu was excellent. I ordered the steak and kidney pie. The pie was ok, but it was served with BBQ sauce, which I don't suppose it should be served with? I actually hate BBQ sauce anyway. Rest of the family enjoyed their meals. Would I come back? Not the top of my list, but I guess I would. Wetherspoon usually do nice pizza and curries, so I would go for that next time, if I return to Windsor.

Ordered a burger and chips!!! Really nice chips were really hot and tasty!!!

Staff very pleasant beer even better

I live locally and use this spoons regularly. We came recently for lunch which was very nice. The issue I had on this occasion is that I ordered a glass of draught wine with ice. The new barman, a tall oriental man wearing glasses put 3 large chunks of ice in my glass first and then poured the wine up to the line. I pointed out to him that he had short measured the wine and that the ice should go in after. He argued with me and said it was on the line. The bar manager agreed with the barman,so, effectively I paid wine price for the ice! I also drink at the Slough spoons and the Maidenhead branch and this never happens, nor should it. I now order my wine and request the ice after it is poured. The King and Castle is definitely geared around the tourist trade and this is reflected in their inflated pricing. But come on, treat your local trade with respect and stop ripping us off!.

Lady bartender was rude. Not coming back.

Breakfast was served cold. Which means that you have to eat it quickly. So therefore missing the enjoyment. After a word with a member of staff I was given a full refund. Thank you.

The best steak we had across other JD wetherspoons. Order medium Rare gave us Juicy medium rare pink hot steak.

It's a Whetherspoons, so you get what you would expect from the food, drinks and atmosphere - however this is the nicest Whetherspoons that I have visited. Close to Windsor castle and a good option for a bite to eat if you are visiting Windsor.

Environment and view from windows were great. Food… not so much. Bbq sauce and coleslaw given with meal clearly were sat out for a long time. Had a hard layer on the top. Overall not a great meal, compared to other spoons.

Three of us had a great lunch, including beers and cider, for a very reasonable price. Wide selection of menu items, pleasant staff, quick service, and beautiful ornate decor, with Windsor Castle right across the street. Lots of seating on 3 floors. Order at the bar and your food is brought to your numbered table. Unfortunately, I had to return to the restaurant to retrieve my forgotten backpack. Thankfully, it was safe and sound behind the bar. Much appreciated!

Wetherspoons pub ideal position opposite the castle and close to river. Can be very busy but is very spacious. On several levels so plenty of room including lots outdoors when the weather is good. However a fair few stairs.

Lively and popular pub. Cousins from Australia enjoyed it immensely, too.

Good food at a reasonable price!!!

Considering how busy it was, the service was fast, the food very good and the pint of Windsor and Eton couldn't be improved on.

Standard 'spoons offering the usual standard. Busy in the evening when we visit, cheap, cheerful. Lovely location.

Disappointing service. A large pub over 4 floors but the order on the app service seemed to take forever (20-30 minutes) for drinks to arrive. Also drinks clearly on sale at the bar weren't offered on the app. Could do with better signage for facilities (toilets on the ground floor). Always enjoy a 'spoons' but this was a less than perfect experience.

Lovely pub, very hardworking staff, great food and beer.

Don't be put off by the ground floor being rammed with people at all hours - always tables to be had on the lower floors or in the vast outside space at the rear. Order via the app or at the bar using your table number and your drinks should arrive instantaneously followed by your food within half an hour irrespective of how busy the pub is. Simple honest fayre. Best of British.

Appalling establishment for a landmark like Windsor. Avoid at all costs. Take a short trip to all bar one round the corner where they know the meaning of hospitality. Apon a truly awful visit, feedback was provided to customer services and their response on the matter was that the management teams are licensed to do pretty much what ever they want.

A very friendly and well located pub at a convenient location right opposite Windsor Castke. The barman was helpful and efficient. The Leffe beer was great!

Two words - unprofessional- rude

We only had a quick drink, but as soon as I ordered our drinks they arrived at our table before I had put my phone down.

What you would expect from a 'Spoons. Food basic but cooked and served well. Waiting time was ok. Lovely seating area outside. Airconditioning meant it was a bit too cool sitting inside. Toilets clean but twice over a couple of days they had run out of toilet roll. Pulled a good pint of Doombar.

This pub is over 3 floors and is big. We had wanted to sit on the terrace but had to move as there were no no smoking tables. Despite a large garden, there were only 5 no smoking tables which were placed right next to those who could smoke. As the vast majority of customers were non smokers, why give priority to the minority? Tables were clean, food was typical Spoons and the atmosphere was good despite the smoke/vapes.

App didn’t work properly so meal missed of order and subsequently had to eat separately to family. Staff not very accommodating for this even though young babies in party. Baby change absolutely foul. Bin over flowing and faeces smeared on changing table. Clearly not been cleaned in a long time. As for woman’s toilet. Sanitary bin overflowing. Purely disgusting. Food satisfactory.

This place is such a favorite! The food is great, the flowers and decorations are beautiful. The staff is friendly and the prices are low for all of this. And most importantly they open early and close late. I love this place

I recently had an incredibly disappointing experience at the King and Castle restaurant. The food was simply awful. It was clear that most of the dishes were re-heated, which made them taste stale and completely unappetizing. Everything was tasteless and lacked any semblance of freshness or quality. To make matters worse, the so-called "cod fish" they advertised was definitely not cod fish—it tasted off and was nothing like what you'd expect. This place is a huge letdown, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Save your time and money and go elsewhere.

Food really nice. Most of the staff really nice. But the managers (so she says) appalling behaviour behind the bar treated my 14 year old son horribly. Saying “what don’t you understand” . When I asked her not to be rude to him, shockingly she asked us to leave her pub. Disgraceful behaviour. I have also looked at other reviews and there are similar complaints about this rude, incompetent woman.

Sat 3rd Aug ‘2024: My experience this time, 2years later, was a joke! Due to this security guard suffering from ‘weak man’ syndrome had me ask him; “Why did he refuse me entry when he allowed my friends, who were white, in?” He responded; “You should know.” I said; “I should know what, that they're white and I'm black.” He responded; “Because they are older.” I said; “Ok! So why not say that in the first place, instead of telling me (I should know), you joker! Which is when 1 of my friends came over to me and said, the security just radioed for you (black girl with red leggings not to be let in). What was the reason for me not being let in!!! A weak man whose ego had been knocked. So for him to feel in control, he stopped me from entering! Kmt! At least my first experience here back in ‘2022 was a good 1. 🤗 * * Sun 7th Aug ‘2022: The wings are delicious and the pub is so big and spacious. 👌

The food is horrible. The staffs are extremely rude. They can't afford to give straws with drinks. They said they are out of straws. Worst weatherspoons in all of UK.

Busy place, enough tables for meals. I ordered a medium rare steak and it arrived well done - not ideal. My partner ordered a chargrilled chicken burger and it arrived looking pale and dried out. Not an experience to be repeated! I know all hospitality venues are having a hard time at the moment and allowances need to be made, but this was pushing the boundaries of acceptability. If I eat there again I will make different choices!

It was a dead place, i didn't like the food as it was very bland, the atmosphere was horrible 😫 I will definitely will not going here again. Nothing nice about this place. Food came out chared and tasteless and lack of staff did not help they had 2 staff that were running around like headless chickens

You cannot compare a restaurant as such and a Weatherspoon although they both serve food. And this is what Weatherspoon understood and concentrated on. When you go to a Weatherspoon, for lunch or dinner, you know what you gonna get. Decent pub food, served the pub way, and when you're done, your appetite will be satisfied while you would have spent significantly less than in any other pubs, restaurants, and most takeaways. This is why they are so successful on the "restaurant" side. The drinks are also a lot more attractive than any other pubs. Therefore, Weatherspoon's pubs are always busy. They is a good ambience due to a pleasant and helpful staff, and of course, affordable drinks and food.

After a memorable tour of the Castle it was time for a break, and food. Here was grand. It was quite busy but we managed to get a table. After giving orders, in short time the tasty mains arrived. With self-service coffee and cappuccino, it was all very satisfying.

Very very rude staff and management. Wouldn’t provide names shouting at me and my friends to get out of the pub after asking to speak to management as our issue hadn’t been dealt with. Even accused us of being racist for asking to speak to management. Really unprofessional, would not go there if I was you. If I could give 0* I would!!

My self and a colleague had ordered a Katsu curry and a noodle dish Which were Tasteless & we were unable to eat them. We informed the waiter who asked us to take our food to the counter, we were confronted by a short overweight woman, think she called herself Cat, who clearly had no etiquette or manners of how to speak to people. She first refused to change the food saying we won’t change it because you don’t like the taste but when we explained it was NOT what we had asked for and told her to try eating it. She then asked for £1.50 !! To change the food. By the way when we ordered the food she said they only except cash! Wonder what’s going on here ?? I did ask to speak to the manager and she told us she was the manager. I explain I will be putting up a review and she said she didn’t care. Wow !!! If this is what management is like I wonder what kind of example they are setting for the staff there. Absolutely disgusting attitude, behaviour and food. Clearly someone who should not be in hospitality dealing with customers. Wish I had taken photos of the food.

Went in for a pub lunch after swimming with the kids and got denied access as I didint have an adult with me. I’m 26.. with my two kids. This was at 3pm.. I thought it was a family friendly pub obviously not.

Mrs Moose and I had arranged to meet friends in Windsor and decided to head to the King & Castle for breakfast. This was our first experience of a Spoons breakfast. The pub was nicely laid out - we went upstairs where there was plenty of room and a pleasant environment. We decided to order via the App while our friends preferred the old fashioned method of ordering at the bar! Ordering was very straightforward and all the food arrived at the same time. I had the traditional breakfast while Mrs Moose went for the eggs benedict. The food was basic, no frills, but did the job at a reasonable price. If that type of food suits you, you will be ok at this pub. Would we go back if in Windsor again? yes, we probably would.

We visited twice , usual Witherspoon's fair, we had steak night deal two meals and drinks 26 quid , no complaints. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Good view of the footy, lots of outdoor space and seating

Went to have breakfast for 4. Before tour of castle, abruptly told could not take well behaved dog inside, or even sit outside to have a coffee. So went to the Castle Hotel, was made very welcome, sat outside with dog at the tables. Staff very accommodating, even bought dish of water for dog. Had great view of guards walking past. Very disappointed with the attitude of Wetherspoons staff.

Ipa beer and burgers are great. Strongly adviced. I had two beers just before visiting the Windsor castle. It has a castle view.

Lots of space to sit down. Obviously very popular lots of people there. Food was good and reasonably priced. Easy to order your food.

Your usual wetherspoons, but with 3 floors and a good view of the castle, if you can get the right table. Starters come at the same time as the rest of the food so don't bother asking, if you actually wanted it first. Good and very quick service. Water is far if you go to the top floor.

Everything was ok most of the times until we had pints of Corona this week. This was in downstairs bar (outside) it was watered down did not taste anything like corona! Otherwise you get what you pay for

RUDE. I ordered a vodka and coke. I was given a vodka and tonic. I said “I’m sorry but I asked for coke “and the reply “no you didn’t ….”. Having then spoken to another customer, he said yes the same girl pushed past me and said you’re in my way! It wasn’t as busy as usual but the prices have risen so I’m presuming people are going to there chosen pubs as there is not much different in price now.

Wonderful location right opposite the castle, super close to the train station. Lots of seating- indoor as well as outdoor. Beautiful place. Very well maintained. However, our order was not taken correctly- they missed out on one item. All our food arrived except for one. On enquiry, we learnt that the missing item wasn't noted down in the first place. So we had to order again and wait. Lost a bit of time because of this error. The food was very good- mixed grill platter, chicken fry, and cod and chips. Especially recommend the cod and chips- the fish was excellent. But I wouldn't recommend the ramen noodle bowl- lacks flavour.

Don’t bother coming here if you don’t have a UK ID. Imagine being the only spoons in the country to not train your security to check ID’s from other countries. Absolutely pathetic

NO LONGER DOG FRIENDLY!! I have visited the King and Castle for years normally on a Saturday afternoon with my dog using their garden. However, no more…apparently dogs are no longer welcome and no explanation was forthcoming….despite most dogs being better behaved than some of the pubs customers
