Went to watch the FA cup final. Bar staff done a sweepstake. We pulled out 30>40 min united scoring. They refused to payout. Would not go. Beer was flat and not great.

Finally got round to writing this review following my dads wake at the pub. Tracey, from the moment I walked in, you were welcoming, supportive, helpful and professional. I didn't have a date or a time at that point but it didn't matter, you could not have been more obliging. You took the pain out of me thinking about what was needed. Nothing was too much trouble. On the actual day of the funeral you were true to your word and everything was ready for the wake. The buffet was perfect for the occasion and I cant thank you enough for all of your help (and hugs). I will be forever grateful. 💖 You truly are one of a kind. Thank you so very much. Keep being you. Lots of Love xx

Not very clean, glasses always dirty and tables always sticky. The Manager is not welcoming and can be extremely rude and very unprofessional. The Manager is usually sitting at the bar drinking - gets a kick out of talking about employees, employees that have left and customers. (Making up stuff that isn’t true and not being very nice at all) The manager bars people on the simple fact that she doesn’t like them anymore. They don’t serve food but do it for parties, if you saw the kitchen it came out of you definitely wouldn’t risk eating it. Also they don’t clean the ice machine, so if you are thinking about going there be very careful what you order.

To the thing below you didnt moan about the kitchen when you were stuffing ya face xmas day narcascist that is all oh and new years eve drinking out of so called dirty glasses 🥱

Top quality community pub, thanks to the manager, Tracey, outstanding quality, live music, charity work, looks after everyone. Choice of zero beers and cider too 👍

My partner and friend organised a surprise party for my birthday and said how fantastic and helpful Tracey was in helping them (and taking along of the stress out of it) they organised the decorations and food, which was a lovely buffet. Perfect party food! They had another event on but this didn't interfere with the party or vice versa. Drinks were reasonably priced and we were checked on throughout the night to ensure we were having a good time. They also allowed us to pick up our decorations and cake the next day which was helpful and were also accommodating for our 2 year old and another young child as well. A great surprise and a wonderful night, thank you so much (ps the cocktails on tap are yummy!!)

We stopped here when our car wiper motor packed up 100 miles from home to wait for 4+ hours for the RAC recovery The lady behind the bar was very kind and helpful despite the kitchen being closed. At time of writing it's 2:30am and we're now "almost home"😉 and in much better spirits than if we'd had to spend those first 4 hours at the side of the road.

Traci was absolutely fantastic putting together our christening party! Nothing was too much trouble and she did a wonderful buffet. Would definitely recommend for an event! Beautiful weather so we were able to use the outside seating area too! Thank you 😊

Had not been to the golden lion for a while so went here for a few drinks with friends, the landlady actually huffed and puffed because she had to serve me, more interested in the locals that are there and pleasing them, wasnt impressed there was a dog running around the pub!!! Decor and atmosphere appalling ladies toilet was more welcoming then the bar, customer service is not the landladys strongest point, very rude and serving people is not her forte. It used to be a lovely pub, good service, good food and you actually felt welcomed in the pub. Will not be visiting any time soon, these new landlords need to contact Martin the old landlord and get some hints and tips how to run a pub!!!!!!!

Recomended by our Hotel. Golden Lion web site described award winning Pub food. Walked 15 minuits to Golden Lion only to discover that 1.) They did not sell British beer, only beer from other countries and 2.) the "award winning food" on their web site was actually a "mistake", they had not offered food for more than 6 months. The place has a huge Union Jack on the side of the bulding, Despite the fact that they did not sell British beer or food. We left the 2 Australian beers we had bought, and walked back to our Hote for chicken wings and Belgian beer.

Went on for a quiet drink, random choice of pub locally, staff were very helpful, and efficient, log fire burning, friendly atmosphere and had a lovely evening. Will be returning

Great pint of Guinness, friendly staff and locals. Pleasure to find a proper pub, they are few and far between these days.

Went out with my flat mate for a few beers and the football. Great atmosphere and banter with the staff and other customers. Fish and chips was perfect

Really disappointed with the delivery service, ordered through just eat and had a text to say the food was on the way. An hour later we call the restaurant to be told it actually left 15 mins ago and to call back if not there in 5 mins. We called back and they are no longer answering the phone. Tried for 20 mins and gave up.

Local pub with upmarket prices. £5 a pint!!! Poor food. Had the roast dinner, dry beef, stale veg. Cheap greasy burgers at resturant price. Only go there if you have no where else to go

My friends arranged to meet up here, being the most central place. Was a bit apprehensive but pleasantly surprised. A great mix of people from all walks of life! Office men, builders, ladies meeting up for a catch up, locals having a bite to eat. Felt very welcome. Seemed everyone was mingling with everyone. Didn't eat but food looked okay. Friend said mens toilets could do with a makeover but females was adequate

I went to the pub on Tuesday where my daughter was electrocuted by a lamp that had no bulb in. She was just being an inquisitive 2 year old and when I complained about it the staff admitted they knew it was ‘live’ but didn’t know how to switch it off.

Service was shocking. Not enough staff behind the bar and South Africans got served last. My Stepdad was eating his breakfast slowly and bar lady asked if was still busy, he said that he was and that he doesn't mind cold food as he is snacking as the game goes. 5 minutes later the same bar lady came and removed his food that he was still busy with. Food and money wasted. Staff were extremely rude. We definitely will not be back and won't recommend to friends and family.

They would not let us play pool at 5 pm because some guy got triggered bc we were better than him and got very butt hurt about it and we got kicked out even tho we were playing pool the day before with someone who didn’t have a fit about it and we feel violated off are age and we deserve better treatment we deserve to be payed are pound back

Just had a nice chicken curry and chips with onion rings. The were very friendly and the locals seemed friendly. I would eat here again it was a very good price.

Staying at a local hotel fancied a pub meal was directed here by hotel star was clearly a locals drinking boozer was full of builders who all gawped at my wife who was only female other than staff. Atmosphere was very down market with most people using the F word in every sentence

Food is fabulous and nice friendly atmosphere. Food was hot tasty and plentiful and worth a visit for the sunday lunches alone. Warm and welcoming without being intrusive. Pleasure to visit.

Met up with some mates to watch the footie and thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon/evening drinking session! I hadn't been in this pub for years and apparently the new Landlords have turned this place around. Very friendly, decent TV's and tasty beer!

I haven’t been in this place for about 20 years and it was a sh**hole then! I was on the lookout for a quiz night and saw a sign outside so thought we’d give it a go. I rang to book a table and was a bit surprised they wanted us to pre book our food. The landlord couldn’t find a version to email, so we were ok to order on the night. I feel this could put people off. I feared the worst but when we arrived, there was a lovely fire to welcome us. The food was traditional pub food but really reasonably priced, hearty and tasty. The quiz was excellent too! We’ll definitely be back! Maybe I’ll check out the toilets next time in the hope they have been cleaned and spruced up a bit... I really hope so as this is now a proper traditional pub. Watch this space ;)

Pub is in a terrible state, toilets are horrendous, we were going to order food but was put off by the state of the building, god knows what the kitchen is like, bar maid who seemed to be the owner was miserable and rude and that was the whole vibe of the pub, we quickly left

Popped in to try out lunchtime food.Fairly poor access - steep ramp and difficult step into pub.Barmaid - sort of friendly but seemed to not really care less.Food - probably the best bit - hot and cheap. Pub doesn't look too clean - fortunately we didn't need to use the toilets.Landlord - made no effort whatsoever to speak or do anything much.Now the really bad bit ....... the men at the bar were disgusting. Even though there were children eating in the room, their language was absolutely vile, and they were very loud. I am sure that no other pub landlord would tolerate this kind of behavior. Absolutely offensive and not acceptable. There is a lot of potential in this area for a decent pub, but I'd be surprised if this landlord is still there in a few months time.Chuck out this lowlife, clean the place up, be friendly to decent people, and you might get a few more customers!

Popped in for a drink and left very soon after. Staff and locals very unfriendly and unwelcoming plus needs a very good clean. Shame as it could be a lovely pub

In all my year I do not think that I have ever seen a wc so disgusting, from the cobwebs around the window to the state of the pan and floor. Looked like a third world country, but that would do a disservice to the third world.

A great roast dinner with excellent portion size for the cost, warm atmosphere with a lovely inviting staff. I will be back!

I visited the Golden Lion, Basingstoke, in early 2018 on a casual after work basis with friends, and I am so glad I did. Our welcome there, by both the regulars and the staff, was warm and embracing and made us feel very relaxed and part if the community. The immediate impression was that this pet friendly place welcomes all customers, no matter what your background, profession, age or interests. Marvellous. Our main reason for calling in as a group was to enjoy a fine beer, accompanied by hearty traditional food at a good price, and enjoy the latest sport on screen together with the regulars. We were not disappointed. The food was simply outstanding traditional pub grub. Prepared and cooked by Julie, just like home, and there was loads of it. It was hot, fresh, tasty, high quality and great value too. I loved it. Martin and his team couldn't do enough to ensure we received prompt, professional and friendly customer service. Multiple wide screen TV's on each wall ensured our appetite for coverage of the latest sporting occasions was more than adequately satisfied, and all this, together with a comprehensive drinks menu ensured our visit was enjoyable, memorable and of the highest quality. I'm making this place my home from home from now on. Highly recommended.

The pub was just an average pub there was nothing wrong with it but it does state in the food menu "food all day everyday" but the kitchen was closed when we were there at 16:00 which was a disappointment, also the customer service wasn't great, could of been a lot better.

I checked reviews before I visited but was surprised how few there were. We visited as a family. Friday night. Food was good. prices were very good- two meals for £10. Is a fab deal. Typical pub food. Only comment is could have more desserts...

I went there in my lunch hour and ended up only having 5 minutes to actually eat my food , considering i work a short 3 minute walk away the fact we had to wait 45-50 mins for food is appalling, the land lady or manager who ever lady muck thinks she is , is really rude and the polish lady behind the bar looks clueless , HOW IS THIS STILL OPEN .. it is absolutely terrible and this is coming from a guy who never writes reviews for anything but i had to for this

Cada vez que he estado en su muerto, tranquila, no hay ambiente, 4 personas sentadas en el bar (probablemente el mismo 4 como mis anteriores visitas 10). Se ve un pedido una copa y en la parte de atrás de la cabeza su forma de pensar es que vale la pena gastar dinero en efectivo aquí? ¿Dónde están todas las personas derrame la hora del almuerzo o no, teniendo en cuenta que se encuentra el único boozer en el Black dam/viables/ ( +afueras de Brighton Hill)Ish, muy cerca de muchos de los negocios en la carretera y un lugar perfecto para una parada de una pinta es mucho más bajo utilizado. Caro para una pinta, pero era una fresca. (no aguadas o nada) tiene un montón de anuncios para grub típica dentro, nunca había probado, aunque. Necesita un poco de vida añade, conseguir fútbol en directo en la televisión, dejar los precios y puede ver mi regreso. También tienes algún tipo de música de fondo jugando constantemente. Nadie le gusta caminar en un pub donde se puede oír una mosca. Pubs deberá estar llena de vida, ambiente y donde se puede disfrutar de una pinta ... por el momento este lugar no tiene nada de eso.

Simplemente no hay palabras suficientes para describir cómo horrible es este lugar! Es simplemente terrible! Mi consejo es que conseguir un buen director de allí para ordenar todo!

I have quite often popped in for a few drinks whilst passing through to town and over the past couple of years the management seems to have changed quite frequently. Although 90% of that time one thing has stayed the same.... bad attitude!!!! The pub could be a brilliant venue for not only Food, Drink and Entertainment, if only they would put it in the hands of the right people. They have saved the WORST until last. The woman in there at present has no idea. The reputation of the pub has definitely gone down hill. As an overall rating if i could leave it 'Nil' I would have. Me and my mother visited this pub hopefully wishing that it would have improved from our last experience...how wrong we were. A man who seemed to be a regular was heard making sexist comments, the management really need to get a grip on this. This pub should be closed as soon as possible, I will be advising everyone to avoid this pub.

First of, I very rarely put any review for anything, but today I really had to.Just went there to have a work lunch with team mates. Tried to order a burger the answer I got "Sorry, we don't have burgers anymore, the landord is on holliday in Spain and didn't bother ordering". What sort of answer is that? so unprofessional.We ordered something else then, it took a while to come and the food was just sloppy.I don't know what's going on here, probably a combination of careless owner and demoralized staff. I'f you're just going there for a pint should be ok, but if you want some lunch, forget it.

I visted the golden lion to have a dinner with my family, as the pub is a short distance from my house. When we entered the pub there were a few guys that were obviously locals to the pub, they were very loud and continually swore which made it not a very nice environment. The staff didn't mention anything to the men about the swearing and it continued throughout our meal. The meal itself was mediocre with a very overcooked steak and bland boiled mushrooms and drinks quite pricey. The only plus point about our visit was the brilliant service of the chap behind the bar, made it a bit more bearable. Me or my family will definitely not be returning to the golden lion, the atmosphere and food wasn't as good as it could be even though it's in a good location.

We used to regularly go down to this pub on a Friday and still do occasionally because it is convenient. I am really surprised it hasn't closed down. Over the last couple of years it feels like there has been someone new running it every few weeks. People come in, full of enthusiasm but within no time they have left. With some money spent on it, it could be a great place to go. I don't suppose this will happen though. I can't say I would recommend it for a night out, there are far nicer pubs in the local area, who also serve good food.

Previous reviews surely relate to a long time ago as presently hot food/sandwiches are not served. Unfortunately we had a negative experience as we were harassed aggressively by a 'regular' whilst playing a game of pool so much so that we found it necessary to move to another area of the pub. We were disappointed that the management failed to recognise the situation to enable us to enjoy our evening out.

Popped in with a group of friends for a quiet drink & game of pool, thuggish locals were extremely rude, gobby & aggressive and made it clear it was their local , they obviously resented us daring to step inside their hovel, their behaviour wasn't challenged by the staff, in fact the bar staff just disappeared to the other bar, how this pub keeps its licence is beyond me, last visited this pub in the 80's and it hasn't changed!

Lovely Thai curry served. Made a change from pub grub. Authentic and tasty. Lovely service and good atmosphere. Excellent real ales and a good choice of lagers. Overall well worth a visit

Very warm welcome by the new manageress, tried the homemade chilli and WOW what a dish, my cousin had the homemade pie and his comments where that the meat was succulent and juicy. Traditional pub grub served, well presented, couldn't fault the service. Wasn't badgered repeatedly throughout the meal like some places I've been.

Went for a Sunday roast with the extended family and the roast was excellent with a choice of meats and plenty of vegetables, all hand done(not frozen). The surroundings are O.K. but not brilliant but the wonderful service makes up for this. They were extra attentive to the kids and even decorated their great ice cream sundaes with funny faces and personalised them to what toppings and syrups the kids wanted. Only just got around to leaving the review and thinking we must go back! We went for a Sunday dinner at tea time and it was quiet.
