Golden Grill Fish Bar in Dover

A year ago portions and quality was good. Now, pies are soggy as they microwave them in front of you. Chip portion sizes have shrunk massively. Lost alot of love for this place. So sad. They took advantage of a couple who have had a drink. Poor. Castle Street fish bar in future

Food isn't to bad tasting, when it's the lady working doesn't seem very happy not a pleasant service she offers asks what you want then off you go, battered sausage today was awful, when the guy is serving alot better service he provides, chip portions aren't very big compared to other chip shops either

I got 3 fish and chips. It was amazing one. All very delicious. My family enjoyed 3 meals from our local traditional one. Thank you 😁

do not go, waste of money. miserable worker, heated up saveloy in microwave. large portion of chips for £3.20 and you get a handful. put chips in with all the meat, didnt ask if needed separate and too late to ask for them separately. No food hygiene sticker. Told me it was £7 then i pulled out 2 £10 notes and they then raised the price to £10.70. Food not even worth all the fuss and bad pricing.

Such a shame. Did not use a quality potato for the chips, half of them were bruised or old. The rest was brilliant but the chips let the treat down. I would expect more on a Friday night.

3 cod all soggy, could not even get it off the paper left half the batter behind. Chip portions very small. Shame it used to be a good shop, will just take the extra time to walk into town from now on.

The best fish&chips in Dover, high quality food, potatoes always fresh, kindest staff and a detailed menu to pick from. Perfect take away service at the best prices. More than satisfied, i advice to try it if you're thinking of visiting Dover.

Food is good but the chip portion sizes are not up to much large chips are smaller than other chip shop medium chips and for few potatoes you think they would give decent portion sizes as you can buy a bag of potatoes for less than £3 that they charge for a so called large

Looked for chippy to eat before we got the ferry to Calais. Due to reviews thought this was the best one .... portions are oke but for £8,40 a bit steap, fish was big but not alot of chips. Salt & vinegar taste was not on there. All in all ... alot of money and not the best meal. Plus plus was that it was freshly made whilst we waited.

I used to go there in 2021. Good Food.

I buy a burger from the shop on Tuesday which has made me sick throwing up all the burger and made me miss work, the customer service is terrible and uncomfortable, they handle your food with there bear hands and give you food poisoning

Car broke down around the corner and whilst waiting I went and got some food. Very pleased with my food and they even offered to get a relative of theirs to look at my car. Nice to know there are still decent human beings around. Will definitely visit again next time I am near.

Perfect chips and dead good value for money. The mushy pea fritter is my new favourite, so glad to have this as our local chippy.

We experienced take away cod and chips from here today. The service was friendly and the fish and chips were freshly cooked. They were very tasty what more could you ask for.

Battered sausage was rock hard. Chip portions are on the small side. Wasnt impressed

Bisher habe ich gute Erfahrungen mit diesen kleinen Läden gemacht, heute leider nicht. Der Fisch war akzeptabel, gehörte aber zu den schlechtesten die ich bisher in England hatte. Die Chips waren teilweise roh und kaum genießbar. Vielleicht lag es daran, daß ich eine Stunde vor Feierabend Essen geholt habe. Es wird aber keinen zweiten Versuch zu einer früheren Zeit geben.

Popped in on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Just two portions of chips. You can eat inside but we took ours away. What a gorgeous chip. Don’t know if it’s the potatoes or the oil. But we both agreed what a lovely chip and will certainly remember and be back.

Went for our first visit to this chip shop. On entering the lady behind the counter did not smile, look at me or even say hello and in fact barely said a word other than yes and the price. When we got home the chips were not even that warm anymore and a lot of them had black bruised bits. The taste was not that nice compared to other chip shops we have frequented and all in all we were quite disappointed and would not try this one again. Sorry for the bad review but have to be honest.

Vintage place with a soul (retro cash register was my favourite!) Quite a few nice fish to catch there (eg. plaice). Staff is genuinely friendly and so are the served portions! Truly recommend having a go everyone around it!

Visited today, not the normal owners, a gentleman and lady on the counter. Served a raw and cold pie definitely not to the EHO required standard temperature . "raw pastry" x2 plus half cooked chips. This place was un the up. What has happened, has the local gone AGAIN. I feel the owners should get a grip and concern themselves with consistency and quality. I have tried so hard to love this place.

Have food from here 3-4 times a year, and very rarely do they let you down. Sometimes the batter isn't as crispy as you would like, or it might need a minute in a microwave when we get home (2 minute drive), but very tasty fish, and the chips are always great. Recommended.

Since my last visit almost a year ago, I decided to give this Fish and Chip Shop another try. Although nothing special "portions a bit small" the quality has improved so we will return to see if this shop has got its act together again.

Visited Golden Grill Fish Bar three or four times now. The food is always good quality, but the staff don't really seem interested in customers, can sometimes appear rude (although I don't think this is intentional), and the portion sizes aren't anything to jump for joy about either. A large chips from any other takeaway in Dover can fill me right up, a large chips here barely seems like a small portion anywhere else. I'll reiterate - good food; but not good portions.

Siamo rimasti molto soddisfatti della qualità del servizio e della bontà della consumazione, abbiamo trovato grande disponibilità di scelta anche nelle bibite. Abbiamo scelto una consumazione tipica locale Fish and Chips e ci sono state servite nei giusti tempi e con grande cortesia. Consigliato a chiunque voglia assaggiare il vero Fish and Chips Inglese!

Moved to Dover 6 months ago, i love fish and chips and found this little gem of a chippy, one of the best takeaway foods i've ever had! nice freindly service quality food and reasonably priced + 5 star food higiene rating. Have tried other local chippies but they are not as good as this one. Worth travaling to this one 4 fish and chips, well recommended you wont b dissapointed

This used to be my local for fish and chips. But on my last two visits the quality has deteriorated beyond belief. My first poor visit I just put down to one of those things, returning a week or so later even the chips were poor quality, soggy, greasy and inedible. A great shame as only a two minute walk from home. Now I drive to Castle Street for quality.
