Food was awesome , I ordered a chicken biryani and the vegetable soup it came with it was also lovely. The spicy squid was delicious. I tried a bit of my mates chicken bhoona and it was also very good. Staff were very friendly and attentive.

Mmmm! Great takeaway again. We are never disappointed. Since reopening we have started to use Golden Bengal again and we are so glad we did. Looking forward to the next one.

We had a really fabulous meal here. We’ve been a couple of times recently and the food is getting better and better. Since it reopened to sit in it is so much nicer. The staff were attentive and the cost reasonable.

Ordered a takeaway for collection. Unfortunately, there were many issues: 1. Arrived at requested time. Had to wait 25 minutes further before the order was ready, and the food was still only luke warm. 2. The biryani was missing its associated vegetable curry. 3. The birayni tasted of washing up liquid/ chemicals. It was inedible. 4. A raita was a lumpy watery substance with sad bits of cucumber at the bottom 5. A chicken tikka masala was OK but relatively poor quality. Overall, a rather negative experience and we sadly won't be ordering again.

I have tried and tried but last night's £47 take away was cold and disappointing. Oxted is crying out for a decent Indian Restaurant unfortunately there is no competition hence poor quality.

The only option is for dining in we had a takeaway… The food was outstanding we had a starter and main the prawns were delicious the meat tender as for the sauce Mmm, The smell of the food made my mouth water I would 100% recommend a visit.

I ate at the Golden Bengal yesterday. I have had the symptoms of food poisoning from a couple of hours after I ate. I have suffered from extreme diarrhoea, with yellow liquid faeces and almost constant stomach cramps. I have not been able to eat since and I'm really dehydrated. I have had to miss work because I need constant access to the toilet. Symptoms started several hours after eating. It is a good job I didn't eat a lot; I ate a tiny amount but had extreme symptoms. I had stomach discomfort and painful wind, after eating there before Christmas, but not bad enough to make me write a review. However, having become unwell both times after eating there and, with this time being so extreme, I feel duty bound to write a review to warn people about this issue. Had I eaten more, I fear I would have required hospitalisation. There must be an issue with the meat or the food hygiene to cause symptoms this extreme. I've reported them to the council because I have never felt like this before and would not wish this on my worst enemy.

Had first delivery from the Golden Bengal for a while and it was excellent. Chicken Shashlik and Paneer Tikka Jalfrezi were among the highlights.

We pre ordered a takeaway at 6 for 7.15 delivery. Called at 7.30 to see if it was on its way - got told it would be 15 minutes. Called again at 8.15 and told it was on the way. Many phone calls later, it finally arrives at 9.45 and was cold! Awful service, rude staff - didn’t once apologise and also missed off some of the order. When we asked to cancel the order at 9pm and get a refund, they refused to refund us.

Appears to have gone downhill recently, waited over an hour for food after being told ‘only ten more minutes’ multiple times. Although unable to cater to customers both in the restaurant and to take away they continued to take orders over the phone promising a thirty minute wait? Food was fine but lukewarm. Won’t be bothering to come again.

Delivery only 3mins up the road but food arrived cold! Curries had nice flavours but the sauces were very runny. Ignored email feedback.

Not a patch on what it used to be. Portion sizes have shrunk especially on the Kebabs. But yet they charge more!

Had a really lovely takeaway this week on what was a very quiet Tuesday. Hadn't phoned our order through and was told it would be ready in 20 mins, which it was. Food was really tasty - the tandoori chicken biryani had some heat to it and was delicious. Good sized portions. Well pleasantly impressed.

Absolutely delicious food. Delivered promptly. All the dishes were enjoyable and it exceeded our expectations.

Dreadful chicken tikka masala . Threw it away after one mouthful . Chicken dry and tough.

Have been coming here for 8 years. The food is absolutely delicious and I could not recommended more.

Food was truly POOR, the spices in each dish had been burnt to within an inch of their lives, service was very bad and we were the only table in their on a Wed night at 7pm, go to the one in Westerham!! I am married to an indian and don't generally like indian restaurant food but this was really delicious, each dish was extreemly good. Very suprised given the write ups on trip advisor - a good chef is working there at the moment. My guest asked for a more spicy version of a dish and was very pleased.

A truly disappointing experience. I am lactose intolerant and explained that to the waiter. He was completely unable to provide any meat dish that was dairy free. This is the first time I have ever experienced such a response in any restaurant. Bottom line ..... they just didn’t seem that bothered. The place was pretty empty on a Friday evening which should have been an obvious red flag.

Can't fault the food at all, but the constant hovering to see weather we have finished or not, I went in here with my boss just me and him for a end of year dinner and drink and all the time I was in here I felt like I was being watched

Have been here a few times, mainly because it is local. Service, food, atmosphere can at best be descried as only average. After a couple couple of pints I will eat almost anything without complaint, but the last time, the onion bhaji's got the better of us. They looked like, and had the texture of hessian table mats. Only one other table was occupied, but service was slow and they didn't try very had to please me, I felt they were taking the Mick. This could be the last time... I don't know.

Excellent food and wide range of vegetarian options

Another lovely meal here at the Golden Bengal, this time for the husband's birthday. The staff are really helpful and kind to our children, and I was pleased to be able to bring them with us on a Saturday evening. All dishes were delicious and the food arrived promptly even though it was reasonably busy. Will definitely return - probably quite soon!

Rarely have I felt the need to write a review on any restaurant I have visited however last September i wrote a short review following a visit to this one. Although the food was really good the staff were unwelcoming and bordering on rude. Last week my group thought we would try this restaurant again to see if our last experience was a one off. What a shame, despite an online booking and receiving confirmation the unfriendly guy on the front desk felt the need to interrogate the 6.15 booking and then just pointed to one of the empty tables. The food service was also poor and we constantly had to ask for our drinks despite the restaurant being half full. Clearly things haven’t improved although I will say the food is still good. How important are front of house staff? - Very important as my group won’t be going back for more.

We went into the restaurant just before 9pm on a typically quiet Sunday night in Oxted. Straight away we felt a little intrusive as all of the staff were sat around one table chatting. There were no other customers there. We were taken to a table though and menus given to us and a drinks order taken. Our food and drinks arrived in reasonably good time although the waiter did not appear to be happy in his work. The food tasted nothing more than average but it was satisfactory. We finished our main course and politely declined to offer of the dessert menu. A few minutes passed and as we were talking the waiter asked us to finish our drinks and leave because they wanted to finish for the night! I looked at my watch and it was 10.22. We did finish and I paid exactly the amount on the bill and told the waiter that if he wanted a tip he shouldn't ask customers to get out before they are ready. As it was so quiet one would think that they would be glad of the business. Clearly they were not.

Visited last night. Staff not friendly, food very dry and not enough sauce. Had vegetable naan but couldn’t see any vegetables inside. Not much flavour. Wish we had gone somewhere else. Very disappointed. Expensive.

I had the Chicken korai and my friend had a vegetable curry both were extremely dry which was disappointing after the long wait for the food when others who arrived after us were served before us! The service was poor with staff not helpfully explaining the food options and also not asking how the food was during the meal! It was my first time back here after a few years and it has definitely deteriorated from how I remember the old Golden Bengal!

I ordered chicken Kashmiri... Barely enough (thin watery )sauce to cover the chicken so I asked for a little more sauce. They obviously were running very low because what came back was even more watery than the first lot... Yuk!

Sorry but I need to get this off my chest.. I've often wondered why Golden Bengal in Oxted is always empty. Well tonight I found out why. I thought I'd give it a try and it was dreadful. The curry was served in the small container the same size as the rice so there wasn't enough sauce. The Keema Naan tasted of detergent they used to wipe their preperation services and was heavy and stodgy. The food was luke warm too I had to heat it in the microwave. I called to complain and wasn't offered any refund. Please don't waste your money at Golden Bengal.

I ordered a takeaway last Saturday evening. It consisted of 5 dishes: Onion Bhaji - they seemed microwave and were awful. Pilau Rice - fine Saag Aloo - the highlight of the meal and very good Ceylon Chicken - hardly any coconut noticed and not particularly enjoyable Garlic Naan - more like cardboard I will give this place a miss in future

Eight of us arrived,to be greeted cordially and in a cheerful fashion. Throughout our time at this high street venue,the service we received was,contrary to other reviews,prompt and efficient.Unfortunately,it was the food that was the letdown for us.We ordered a variety of dishes,and without exception,each dish was bland and virtually tasteless.Some dishes were even served cold.We deduced that the Golden Bengal's apparent complacency towards their food has been triggered by the lack of local competition in this particular cuisine.When recounting our experience to friends,without exception,they told us that we should have visited the Gurkha Kitchen.That will obviously be our next stop when in Oxted again.

I've been in and around Oxted for around 45 years and rarely eat at the Golden Bengal, but do so maybe a few times a year due convenience and to the food being quite reasonable in my opinion. There are far better Indian food restaurants a little further away that I tend to make the effort to travel to. There has been a long standing reputation amongst people that I know that the staff at this restaurant are rude. I have tended to ignore their behaviour and to some degree have tended to laugh this off in the more recent past as generally I have liked the food. However, on a recent visit their rudeness has sunk to a level that is totally unacceptable, this was by all the numerous staff that tended to us on this occasion. It was noted by the people that I was with that the food took a long time to arrive and even I was getting aggravated by this, particularly as it wasn't very busy, it was also noted that the food not very hot. Given the recent raids on this establishment I would like to have sympathised and support a local restaurant, however enough is enough.

We decided to eat here as the two other places we had been too were full.

Food was good, no complaints but all staff looked as miserable as sin and didn’t make you feel welcome. Two women were talking at the top of their voices and swearing with the f... word whilst children were in there and should have been told to keep their. Life’s down as not everyone wanted to hear about their sexual experiences. Won’t go there again I am afraid. It is a shame as the food was good. Not sure whether my lamb madras was actually lamb either, although they assured me it was. Disappointed.

This place is my favourite takeaway in Oxted really tasty food the chicken is tender and free of fat or anything you don’t need this place goes from strength to strength

I have eaten at countless Indian restaurants and I have to say the food here is amongst the best if not the best I have had. The chefs must be top notch as the flavours and presentation were superb on all dishes my party had. The only disappointment was with the rather unfriendly welcome and service. I am hoping this was an off night for the front of house as I would love to go back and try some more dishes.

I started coming back here after a break of a couple of years because my last takeaway was Luke warm and nothing to write home about.

I have eaten in this wonderful restaurant for many years and can 100% reccomend it. The food is fresh, well prepared and VERY tasty ! Well worth a visit as the staff are fun, friendly and knowledgable.

Slow service, as if they did not want to be there. The curry itself was very average (a low average) but with better naan and papadums. Coarsely chopped meat and vegetables with spice over that had little preparation. All fresh so no complaints on that side. I have had much better elsewhere (IMHO - eating curry for ~40 years) but if you like your curry basic it would be OK, but not for me. I will not make an effort to go back.

Over the years I've seen this place go from 70's flock wallpaper to modern chic, but I can pretty much say the food has remained at high level throughout. Various owners, managers and staff have come and gone, but you experience a warm welcome on every visit. Food is consistently good (but try and not go there at busy takeaway times as the takeaway orders seem to take precedence). My last visit was for my birthday with a small family group, but fine for couples, adult groups etc. Good traditional English curry house, if you know what I mean...

When it's good it's very good. Comfortable restaurant to eat and relax in. The clientele is generally not disgustingly drunk and obnoxious as I have found can be a problem with some other curry restaurants. The quality consistency can vary a little though, sometimes the food is really, really good, sometimes it's just good. My favourite curry restaurant at this time.

I think it is the only Indian restaurant in Oxted, thus they have a captive audience, but believe be, this is a wonderful restaurant, great food, great service, great prices and a wonderful atmosphere. I cant praise them enough.

Unfortunately it was busy when we went and they had large group. This meant that there was wait for food. When the food arrived though it was delicious. Service was prompt and courteous. Would definitely go again.

I'd give lower if I could. The food was mediocre but the service was simply awful. I've never been to a restaurant and treated like I'm a bother. Waiter threw the cutlery down in front of us, had to wait ages just to be offered a drink and a menu and just generally spoken down to.

Been here with my wife and kids. They love their food specially my young kid love Chicken Korma and my wife loved spicy Chicken Tikka Naga. Attentive and very helpful staff😀 Will visit very soon.

We have our Indian fix at least twice a month from the Golden Bengal. Very easy for a restaurant to lose the quality of food with their takeaway service .. but not here. Top quality... Chicken Shaslik is sublime and for a bit of spice Naga Lamb gets the vote. Really don't understand why so many people from Oxted ask where they can get a good Indian takeaway.. its on your doorstep.. try it... like me you wont be disappointed.Don't be fooled by anything you might have heard... yeah it can appear quiet at times in the restaurant, but I can assure you that's because your all missing out.Great friendly service... support your locals.

We often get takeaways from here. The food is consistently good and we always get accurate estimates for when our food is ready for collection. Restaurant is very clean and we feel extremely comfortable in the surroundings. Keep up the good work gents

The food was very good - we had a keema rice with of chicken tikka Naga which was particularly tasty. We also ordered a Cheese nan with a lamb curry - again very good. The staff were knowledgable about the food they were serving. Service was very quick. We enjoyed the ambience etc. The price was OK and we left feeling full.....Will definitely return.

This is definitely in my top 3 Indian restaurants. Prawn puri was to die for. Nice too as it was beyond. Very friendly staff.

We have been going to the Golden Bengal and having takeaways from there for years. Consistently good, and will remain our goto Indian in Oxted

I have been getting mainly takeaways from here for years. Me and family used to eat in but haven't for a while, as found the service too quick at one point. However would definitely give it a go again when we have time. The food is always spot on and really good value. We have tried other Indians but it's never quite the same, so we always go here now, as it's always tasty and consistent.

We've always had a quality meal either in the restaurant or a take away. The restaurant is fairly small, but pleasant atmosphere with polite, friendly staff. Consistent standard of food for the many years that we've been going there.

Been there few times. Food and service always good. Chicken Tikka Massalla is best here. will be back very soon.

We started enjoying the Golden Bengal from the day it opened many years ago. Both eating in the restaurant and, latterly, more often as a take-away service. The high quality of tasty food has been maintained over the years and we thoroughly enjoy it.We have enjoyed variations in the menu, but particularly like the Golden Bengal chicken biriani and meat madras.

I've been going to the Golden Bengal in Oxted for about 15 years and I have ALWAYS had a great meal with fabulous service. I was recommended this place when we first moved into the area and I can only say 10/10.I'm a veggie and hubby is a carnivore so we have a varied menu. Furthermore my friend from Wales insists on going there every time she visits as she loves it as much as we do.

I use the golden Bengal on a weekly basis and have never been disappointed. Would definitely recommend the saag bhaji, the best I've ever eaten!
