Fox & Rabbit in Ryedale

Not bad but prefer sister pub in Levisham, The Horseshoe Inn. The only issue today with the Fox and Rabbit was annoying flies, not many but enough to pee me off

We went for a Sunday lunch. The pub was very busy but the food was excellent the service was second to none and the atmosphere was relaxed. We had roast beef and I had creme brulee my favourite dessert and my hubby had banana bread with toffee and ice cream. I can honestly say it was the best Sunday lunch I have had in a pub or a restaurant for a long time. Despite being busy the service was excellent

Saturday night meal in this classic old school pub. We thought ahead and booked as we didn’t want to be turned away and it was a good sign to see plenty of other reserved signs on the tables as we walked in. We had food to eat back at our accommodation for the weekend so stuck to just having a main. Been a long time since I’ve had a steak and ale pie and this was a great one to have as it was packed with steak and gravy. The chips were also top notch and there was a bowl of veg to be healthy with. Girlfriend went for the risotto as she’s a vegetarian so it was the one dish she could have. Said it was a banger of a risotto.

Awesome beef Sunday dinner at this cute country pub. Food was excellent, service was friendly & it was busy but food still arrived in under 5 mins! Highly recommend.

Stopped off here for lunch/ main meal and was not disappointed, staff friendly and efficient, food was lovely, massive portions, great place full of character, next time we visit the area we'll certainly return..

Four plus a dog enjoyed an evening meal from a good choice with excellent service. This was the fourth time we have visited over a period of six years and the standard remains very high.

I would have said that this is a typical North Yorkshire pub. Good beer and food. I did comment to the landlady that there was no 5 pointed star on the wall of the pub, when she asked why I said it was to keep werewolves at bay. Anyone who reads this must have watched an American werewolf in London to get that joke! 😉

Tuesday 20th Feb 2024 Excellent food, Great premises, atmosphere and staff. Will call in again

We stopped here for an evening meal and it was fabulous. I had the lambs liver with mash and vegetables, and my partner had the lamb shank. Both were absolutely delicious. We would also recommend the Pork Belly, the Scampi and the fish and chips. It was so good we have booked to go back again! You won't be disappointed here but remember to bring your appetite, you'll need it!

On our way to Whitby with 7good mates for a day out called in for a drink and toilet break nice friendly welcome lots of people in waiting for a meal so the food must be good

Nice atmosphere , food a bit plane , were waiting for the food on Sunday for 45 min…, nobody told us that we have to wait more then 15 min, nice people around, if you are not in rush , that will be fine

We took the family and had some delicious food. Especially the chocolate cake. They even turned down the music so we could speak without shouting. Very good value for money too. Parking available. And has a children's menu. Large dinner portions. Even filled my 1p year old son!

We had fish n chips and venison burger. The foods tasted great, absolutely delicious. Will comeback again. Keep up the good work!

Called here on a busy friday evening. Accommodated us even though we hadn't booked.Excellent, generously served food & great friendly service. We both Had the steak& ale pie with home cooked chips.. Very Highly recommended pub food

This was a chance finding as we had been out for a drive. We weren't sure we would be able to get in as it was Valentine's Day but it was only 1700 so they were able to fit us in. We both had the Steak and Ale Pie and both agreed it was the best we had ever tasted. There were big chunks of tender meat in a dark, thick, delicious gravy. It came with lovely chips and a separate bowl of veg. We were looked after by several staff members all of whom were really friendly, and helpful. If I were to say anything other than superlatives here, it would be to say, "Please serve some decent coffee other than basic machine made coffee which wasn't very nice. However, I'm still giving five stars because the rest of the experience was so great. I highly recommend it and thank you to all the staff involved.

Everything on the menu todate has been excellent

Welcoming and friendly staff. We had booked and were seated immediately. All tables seemed to be reserved. My soup was tasty and the croutons a welcome addition, along with a warm bread roll. My husband enjoyed his haggis bonbons but found there was too much salad with it for a starter. Our roast meals were ok but we were surprised there wasn’t any mash or the chance to order extra sides eg cauliflower cheese. I didn’t care for my turkey or stuffing ball. Veg was served separately and there was plenty of it, we were able to swap the red cabbage for peas. We would come again if in the area but not for Sunday lunch. Dog friendly.

An old favourite of mine. Stopped just for a drink to break up a long drive. Service is still very good and a welcoming inn. Didn't eat but previously the food has been top notch.

We have been before but just for drinks. On this trip, we decided to book for Sunday lunch. Nice old country pub with very polite and friendly staff. Good selection of traditional Sunday fare with vegetarian option plus fish and chips and Scampi. Starters are worth a look. Some are traditional with a couple of others thrown in. Portion sizes are good with plenty of meat on the traditional options. If you want a nice relaxed Sunday lunch you can't go wrong at the Fox and Rabbit.

Cant beat it for price and the food is always spot on and service very good with friendly staff

Attended here several times and it never disappoint’s. Well worth the ride out, but it may be wise to book if your more than two because it's always busy.

Brilliant dog friendly massive and I mean massive portions takes time to get your food but mostly everything is homemade and fresh just brilliant definitely come again

Absolutely incredible service, great tasting food. We don't usually go out to eat but we were very impressed with the whole atmosphere. High quality food and amazing service from the very friendly staff. My 6 year old even ate all the yummy vegetables!

Friendly and efficient restaurant pub just outside Thornton le Dale.

We went for traditional English Sunday lunch and was not disappointed. Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding delicious. My wife had lamb shank and it just fell off the bone. First class

Absolutely brilliant inn my wife and I first came across this inn in May 2023 whilst holidaying in Whitby and during that break away we visited twice we have just returned home from another two weeks vacation and have again visited this time four times and again the food was fantastic the choices on the menu’s are really good and the food is cooked absolutely perfectly and presentation is really good the chef is obviously at the top of their game plus all the staff are great each time we have been we received a warm welcome and the service is of a high standard we have been there at lunchtimes and evening and the atmosphere is fantastic we can’t recommend the Fox and Rabbit enough to everyone and are really looking forward to being back in the area early December when we will certainly be visiting again Martin & Sue Galloway

Selected 4 Sunday lunches and was very disappointed that the meat was extremely fatty on 3 of the meals. In addition the atmosphere of dogs continually barking inside the eating area and a owner letting her dog licking her face whilst on her lap was very inconsiderate to diners. We will not be returning.

We stopped off here for food and drink on the way to Whitby would highly recommend it the food was lovely well presented and very friendly staff busy pub with a good atmosphere .

Went on a Sunday. As soon as we had sat down the person looking after us asked for our order. The food came out straight away, we ate and left. Fastest meal ever and cost me a small fortune. They were definitely going for a new record of people served that day! Not a cosy, relaxed pub feeling.

Called in for lunch on route to Goathland after reading some reviews, lovely cosy old fashioned pub with welcoming staff, unfortunately found the food to be no better than any run of the mill normal pub food with frozen chips and dry drab chicken and salad, certainly overpriced, sadly we won't be rushing back.

Lovely place to eat, visited twice while on holiday. The staff were very friendly even other customers were, food was good, very friendly atmosphere, it's also pet friendly which was great as we had our dog with us. Would definitely recommend if you ever get chance.

Lovely pub with very good quality food and decent portion sizes. The menu consists of good favourites, supplemented by a specials board. Venison burger was amazing as was Steak and ale pie.

Great place, food was amazing, the service was exceptional, everyone was especially friendly and the food came out quick and delicious.

It was OK, but don't think I will be rushing back. Food was average pub grub. The experience could have been better if 1. We weren't seated in a family room with screaming kids, we are a couple who have done that and got the t shirt so now want a grown up experience 2. We didn't have to wait an age at the bar to pay the bill while staff rushed around looking a bit frazzled. It was always going to be busy on a bank holiday weekend, but got the feeling it was understaffed. The pressure could have been reduced by stopping table service for drinks, that way they long queue of restless customers at the bar might have been sorted quicker. It didn't appear to me to be managed efficiently.

The food was nice, although service was a little slow but was a busy evening. Was a bit disappointed that where we were seated for our meal you kept getting a smell of the toilets when someone went in or out, quite off putting.

Went for the roast beef and we were not disappointed- good meat, gravy, potatoes, carrots, broccoli, and red cabbage. It is also served with a Yorkshire pudding, while this was my first and I have no complaints I have it on good authority the it was indeed a very good Yorkshire pudding. Our table also had the chicken liver pate, which I was told was very good as well. Servers were polite and knowledgeable. Restaurant and restrooms were clean.

Lovely country pub with very good food, good service and a warm, cozy atmosphere. We have come across it by chance, and it was well worth it.

What a fabulous place! Old style pub with lots of character and an amazing chef! I've eaten in some very fancy places, but this was the best so far, the food was bursting with flavour, I'm not a fan of risotto, but I tried my friends starter, wow! I can't praise this place enough, the staff are friendly and informative, and it's not over priced. When we are in the area again, we will definitely be calling for a meal.

Actually the place was still closed when we were there so didn't get the chance to try. But place looks lovely and smell from the kitchen was heavenly. Definitely will give it a try when visiting the area.

A fantastic pub that is open on a Monday evening which is very hard to find here. The food and staff were fantastic.

Lovely bright day. Fancied a drink ended up with a soup, beautiful. Thoroughly enjoyed the rest and we'll definitely have to come back for a longer visit.

Only wanted a sandwich which was great but turned up with chips and salad so got really filled up ,if passing stop and fill up meals looked good on passing our table, staff friendly and helpful

Smelt like blokes toilets as walked in. Food was bad, complained and got 1 mains free. We won't be going back.... Always thought it was amazing as carpark is always full - very Disappointed.

Visited for lunch and had very tasty fish and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce. Fabulous meal with friendly service. They were very busy on a sunny hot day but soon got a table and had a thoroughly excellent meal. Highly recommended.

For a Free House especially there was a poor selection of beers. Would have expected them to be promoting more local and independent brewers. We were told we could only have a table at 5pm - while we were there they were fitting other people in for later that evening. Food selection is small and predominantly English based. Nobody checked if everything was OK with the meals. Dog friendly was a bonus, although no water was offered for our pooches.

Visiting the area.. came across this pub restaurant on the A169 just outside Pickering...Great meal(pork belly on the specials board 31st July nice atmosphere and outstanding service....highly recommended

The food was excellent. Service was slow due to the large number of visitors ordering meals. This is a very busy pub/restaurant so I recommend reserving a table.

Lovely country Inn. Lots of seating indoor and out. Nice Theakston’s Old Peculiar! The service was just lovely - our waitress was chatty and attentive to our needs as she found an accessible table for my disabled mum and looked after us perfectly.

Travelled to this pub today from West Yorkshire. Took us 90 mins to drive there after booking by phone for 1.45pm. When we arrived, we were told that there was a kitchen problem, and there was only cold food available. When I booked, the lady took my phone no, but never had the thought of ringing us to tell us of the kitchen issue. So, we travelled over for nothing, were never informed of the problem, and then received no apology whatsoever. We've been to this establishment before, and used recommend it. However, after today, they've seen us for the last time. Incidently, we rang their "sister" pub nearby at Levisham, told them the situation, and they couldn't help us either...... Absolutely shocking customer service, and thankfully, not something I'll be experiencing again, ever.

Great service with a smile. Everyone seemed content, especially with the fantastic music that was playing at the time. Didn't eat today, but the restaurant was full of diners with the good choice of food on the menu!
