Fah Thai in Portsmouth

We had a very pleasant meal. Very nice service. Not too expensive. Started with mixed starter for 2, which was chicken satay, butterfly King prawns, sesame toast, vegetable tempura. We had a chicken massaman, prawn pad Thai, some mushroom rice, mixed stir fried vegetables and some more spring rolls. All dishes were perfect. We would thoroughly recommend. Perfect evening meal.

We celebrated a family birthday here and it was absolutely beautiful. Fantastic staff who went out of their way to make it special for us. They even went to the trouble of setting up balloons and banners for us. The food was simply outstanding- we would highly recommend.

What can I say. I found Thai restaurants to be inconsistent in recent years but this place was lovely. Service was super friendly and the food was very good. Fish cake starters were great and the spicy fish for mains was suitably fiery and tasty. Definitely recommend

12 of us from near and far managed to get a last minute table and were not disappointed. From the friendly and professional welcome to the delicious food and tasty cocktails, we had a great time and would come again!

We booked late and got a table. We went for the set menu for a taste of Thai food. The mixed starters were nice and enough, we had a side order of crackers, good amount. The mains choice was very nice a taste of different food, then had ice cream was nice. Beer and glass of wine, found it was a good price and the staff very attentive and always had a smile, would use again.

A warm welcome and attentive to our needs. Lovely restaurant, clean, friendly and nice decor. Catered for vegan needs and able to alter the menu to satisfy dietary requirements. The food was well presented and so delicious. Thank you very much.

Sorry but I have to start with the negative as this was at the end of our meal and tainted the good time we had there. You cannot add a COMPULSORY service charge of 10% onto the bill, and STILL demand that I pay the service charge after I said that I wanted to pay less. I'm pretty sure it is illegal to do this - and I only paid it because I didn't want to make a scene out of it, and the waitress clearly wasn't going to back down.If I say that I would like to pay less service charge, you have to adhere to it (unless stated this to me before we made our orders, which didn't happen). I would like to have the choice of how much of a tip I leave.Furthermore, it says at the bottom of the receipt "tables of 4 or more will have a 10% charge on the bill". - This wasn't told to us before hand so we weren't to know and therefore SHOULD NOT have to pay the amount that YOU tell us to!On top of that, its usually a table of 6 or more in other places!!To be honest, I found the food portions very small for the prices and not as good as other Thai food, certainly less authentic.

We said we would return here in a previous review, shame it took so long for that to materialise. Happy to say it was a good as before, food delicious, lovely service and a very nice evening. We will be visiting any time we return to the area.

I recently visited Fah Thai with my family and mother. The food was amazing, so fresh and tasty, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting a real taste of Thailand.

Loved this restaurant. Cocktails were tasty and great value. I wasn't super hungry so I had a delicious fragrant soup that was filled with really meaty pieces of chicken. Also had the soft shell crab which was divine. Would definitely return to try more dishes.

Amazing food and service. Nount and his Team were very helpful as we did not booked and they’ve organised a table for my partner and 5 children on a Saturday evening. Passion fruit, ginger margarita was exceptional and the food even better, the portion were all reasonable served. We live in reading but next time come to Portsmouth we will definitely be back Thank you for this amazing experience, you made our day memorable

Absolutely crap. Says they are open when they aren’t! Even the sign outside says we are open, but they don’t even open the door

Popped in past for take away lunch as not a lot of options with Covid and fast food outlets are not my thing. Ordered Tom Yum chicken soup for starters ... not great at all .. a boiled kettle with some mushrooms a few bits of boiled chicken and bone dry lemon grass and a sprig of coriander. 2 out of 10 Main was green Thai curry and Jasmin rice. I kid you not .. when I opened it up it was the same consistency as the soup and I first thought it was the wrong order. It was green soup with what looked like big chunks of aubergine in it .. I honestly couldn’t see the prawns anywhere but after splashing my way through the carton I found two small prawns ... yes two ‍♂️ In a starter it would have been laughable but in a main it was a rip off and there is no other way to describe it. I had driven back to my hotel to eat and really couldn’t be bothered with hassle of driving back. This is the best way to address these types of practices and establishments. I understand people are not so busy due to the ongoing pandemic but if people pay £17 for a takeaway lunch for 1 person at least have the decency to give them what’s asked for ... failing that they might give you what you never asked for. Not a great experience overall and I would not recommend based on what was served to me.

We went to the Thai restaurant for an early dinner before the theatre. Excellent, tasty fresh food. One of the best Thai meals I’ve eaten. Great service and a clean tidy environment. Impeccably kept restrooms too!! A really Lovely dinner.

Este pequeño restaurante tailandés es modesto y sencillo; podría pasar junto a él sin siquiera darse cuenta. Pero a menudo aquellos que gritan menos tienen más que decir. Este es el caso aquí y la calidad de la comida es muy superior a la decoración. Eso sí, con las nuevas reglas de Covid, no es de extrañar que los menús sean desechables y las mesas queden desnudas.Comenzamos con cócteles (ver foto) que estaban deliciosos y prepararon la noche a la perfección. Pedimos tantos entrantes como fuera posible, muchos de los cuales terminaron en una bolsa para perros, ya que estaban tan llenos. Las costillas eran excelentes al igual que los pasteles de pescado. La masa de tempura era un poco pesada y prefiero los calamares cortados en tiras finas con chiles frescos. Los platos principales nuevamente fueron excelentes. . . la lubina era suficiente para dos personas y el curry panang tenía una hermosa salsa cremosa pero picante.El personal era encantador y hospitalario y definitivamente un viaje que valió la pena. ¡Una verdadera ventaja para la comida asiática en Portsmouth y muy recomendable!

Compartimos el Fah Roll, realmente encantador, limpio y fresco. Luego habíamos pedido dos platos principales diferentes y el equipo se esforzó por hacerlos saludables y cambiarlos a nuestro gusto, muy, muy apreciado.¡El sábado llevé a mi familia y no estaba tan quisquilloso! !Compartimos varios entrantes: la sopa tom yum estaba muy caliente y deliciosa, el satay de pollo era genial y las costillas también eran deliciosas, la carne se estaba derritiendo del hueso.Luego compartimos varios platos principales y, como a mi familia le gustaba la comida caliente, les pedimos que los condimentaran, lo que hicieron muy bien. El curry verde tailandés fue el mejor que mi madre y mi suegra han tenido y todos disfrutamos el resto de lo que pedimos. Mi suegro comentó que sus fideos borrachos eran deliciosos y generosos con la cantidad de langostinos.Llegó a 35 por cabeza, ¡y teníamos 3 botellas de vino y 6 cervezas con mucha comida en la mesa! We have just visited for dinner in Sunday evening. We ordered prawn crackers to start (£2.99) and found ants in te basket in which they aq served. We spoke to the waitress who just tipped the same crackers onto a plate! No wonder this place only has 4 star food hygiene rating. We mentioned the ants to another member of staff too , who was also unconcerned. NOT a good experience especially as we visited just as they had reopened following Covid closure

This was our second visit to Fah Thai (both for birthday celebrations). The food is delicious and of excellent quality. Service is very attentive, professional and can't be faulted. Drinks and food came quickly. Amazing cocktails and good quality wine at a reasonable price. Will definitely return. If you enjoy Thai food, Fah Thai is a must!

We went on valentine's night and I had the special valentine's menu. As a vegetarian there was plenty of choice. The tofu massaman was lovely, flavours were great in everything. Service was excellent, when the tofu had been missed, a replacement was brought swiftlyWe will return!

Worst birthday ever!!!! 45 mins for a drink, a waiter that could not understand English. Starters came 90 mins later and where stone cold. Waited for a drinks again then the mains came out. Took one night in to my dinner and found a black curly hair so was not happy at all it’s was my wife’s birthday and it was a complete night mare ended up going home dry and hungry. Don’t no recommend and I do not understand the way these people have got the reviews they have. Worst place I have ever been

Been twice this month. First time in house was great. Second time (delivery) was very poor with very dry chicken and egg fried rice which frankly smelt gone off and was inedible. Very disappointing after a great first visit.

We ate here on Valentine’s night before going to the King’s Theatre. The food was superb ..... one of the best Thai meals we’ve had in the UK. Cost was about £65 for two courses each with drinks (aperitif and wine with the meal). We’ll definitely come back ..... highly recommended !

Found this gem of a restaurant by chance before going to the theatre. What a fab place just sad that we didn’t have more time to enjoy it. Food was delicious. We had Penang Curry and Chicken with cashew nuts. Very flavoursome. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Very good value for money. Will make sure we go back and spend more time there next time.

I read the reviews here and decided to go. I was NOT disappointed. A nice welcome, pleasant decor and...well...the important stuff: I ordered water prawn Tom Kha soup, described as "2 chilli" heat level on the menu. OK, if you're squeamish about removing a shell from a prawn, then ask them to do it for you - I'm sure they would. If you're OK with doing so yourself (which I am), this dish is pure heaven: perfect weighting of spices and flavours! The chicken green curry came next - standard, I know, but this one? Oh so tasty...give this place a try!

My partner is not a fan of Thai food and so a rare evening out for her gave me a chance to come here.

After walking past this restaurant many times, we decided to try it out on a Sunday night. The place warm and welcoming with very polite staff. The menu seemed to represent most of the popular Thai dishes, so no shortage of choices. The food was well cooked and very well presented. Definitely going back again. Well worth a visit and not too expensive.

My husband and I had 6 friends round for my birthday and decided to have Thai as it’s one of my favourite meals. We went to fah thai’s website and selected to order through just eat. We ordered a substantial amount of food £101 worth and it never arrived. We called the restaurant multiple times and where informed not their fault and to contact just eat. I tried to get through to just eat for over 30 mins and still told I was in a que. I also tried to use the instant chat but alas I was number 99 for a hour and a half. The restaurant felt they were being helpful by calling me back and telling me to re order and pay again for the food and to also come and collect it. I refused as we where already £101 down and we had been drinking so couldn’t collect. I don’t no whether it was nervous laughter but the man I spoke to the last time was laughing about it and I didn’t find it funny, It ruined our evening and at midnight (after ordering our Thai food at 8pm) we all ordered a kebab

Popped in to the Fah Thai restaurant on a Sunday evening (first time there since it changed from The Bangkok) on my way to a gig at The Wedgewood Rooms.

So glad we stumbled in here, had amazing fresh food and beautiful Thai wine which I was really surprised about. I had some spicy noodles that were so tasty. Will definitely return.

We had recently visited Fah Thai and went back as we were very impressed with the service, food and atmosphere of the restaurant. The staff welcome you and make you feel valued. The food is fresh and flavoursome. We had salt and pepper squid and pork dumplings for starters, freshly cooked. Mains were slow cooked belly pork and Chicken Massaman. The portions were good and the flavours were wonderful. No room for pudding, sadly.

We’ve visited FahThai on a number of occasions in the last year; it’s an unpretentious restaurant selling excellent Thai food which is very well presented and served by courteous, highly professional staff. It’s always a great evening there - very highly recommended!

The flavours were amazing, tasted fresh and not at all greasy. Brilliant service. The smells from everyone’s food was amazing and everything looked delicious, would have been happy with anything from the menu. We ordered starters (fish cakes & duck spring rolls) & mains (coconut rice, choo chee curry & pad Thai chicken) and couldn’t manage it all so they packaged it up for us to take home. Perfect passion fruit martini cocktails as well.

After a great day out sampling the pubs of Southsea we decided to try Thai instead of the usual curry house. All three of us were very impressed with the food, the service, and the value for money. The food is as good as any Thai food I have had, we all had the mixed starter which gives you a little taste of a variety of starters. I had the Masaman curry and coconut rice, absolutely have it again. My two friends both had the drunken noodles.and said they liked it spicey. I did watch as they both had a little bit of a sweat on, but both said it was very tasty and would definitely have it again.we also sampled some cocktails which were also excellent.

We went to Kings theatre to see ABBA and found this restaurant nearby and were really impressed by the foods and service here. Waiting staff was really friendly and helpful with recommendations for good dishes. The papaya salad was so tasty and actually much bigger portion than anywhere else. Chicken satay was very moist and well marinated. Really good food and definitely come back!

A very good Thai restaurant. Good value and authentic. Not over priced. The Tom Yam soup was very spicy and just what we wanted. The Green Thai curry was really tasty.

We went here for a meal after reading the tripadvisor reviews while on holiday in Portsmouth, visited Thursday 29th August, the reviews are accurate, the food was delicious and plenty of it, the taste was very authentic with Singha or Chang to drink just like being in Thailand

My wife, baby daughter and myself visited Fah Thai on a Saturday evening. We had a very warm welcome by the 2 young peopl in front of house, and another young lady behind the bar.

My wife and I decided to try Fah Thai for lunch today.

I had a good experience here for dinner- nice dinner ( I had the tamarind duck, a little sweet) and even better service.

Our first visit and was amazed by quality and the portion size on the starter, mains were good size too, couldn't do desert as a result. Everything was super tasty, timely arrival and good service level. I had a few virgin mojito which were really well made too. Everyone in our party of 4 enjoyed their food and 2 couldn't finish their mains so got them to go.

Nice place with good and friendly service. Excellent food. Go there if you want a great Thai-food experience

Spotlessly clean and really lovely and helpful service. Prawn crackers are the best I’ve ever eaten . Red Thai chicken curry totally delicious and my OH’s drunken noodles were spicy and fresh! Accompanied by a reasonably priced yummy Merlot... if I lived closer I would be a regular.... go try it

Being a sucker for Green Curry, I'd already tried a lot of delicious variants in the UK and over in Dublin. At Fah Thai the blend of flavours was so exquisite that it was simply on another level than anything I'd tried before - I was literally smiling with every mouthful! The restaurant is lovely and relaxing and the waitress smiling and friendly; such a welcoming experience and I will definitely be returning for more of that outstanding Green Curry!

Found this restaurant by chance on my solo trip to Portsmouth. I got in because the menu looked very attractive! And boy was I right! I had three meals (the amazing papaya salad, saucy black pepper beef and lovely noodles) and each exceeded expectations! The staff were very friendly and put up with every time I changed my order (it was so hard to choose!). Overall, a very good experience, I highly reccomend this place!

By far the best Thai restaurant in Portsmouth - way better than Koh Thai! The food is always freshly prepared and cooked to perfection. The service is brilliant, so friendly. There’s a lovely calm atmosphere and it’s excellent value for money. On this occasion, it was my birthday and the staff went out of their way to accommodate this. Thank you, Fah Thai. Best Thai food in the whole of Portsmouth by Fah!! We visit Thailand regularly so can easily compRe the authenticity. Amazing food every time

We had a lovely meal here. We had the softshell crab and tempura prawns to start, the batter was especially light and crispy and food very well presented. Flavours were delicious. For main we shared the slow roast duck which is a huge meal in its own right, duck was soft and full of flavour with a crispy skin and the Thai red curry was rich and velvety, really delicious! Espresso martinis for dessert were very well done as well. To really top it off however is how wonderful the service is, the people really are so genuinely lovely and you can really sense they want you to be happy. Highly recommended!

Looking for an evening Thai meal and we visited another on Albert Road and one in Elm Grove before making a decision. This looked the more appealing from outside and certainly lived up to expectations inside. A family run business with excellent, friendly service, very good quality food, and for a change, good quality Thai wine from Hua Hin.

Visited 23 May 19 for a colleagues leaving party and the service and food was absolutely superb. The food was hot, tasty and of excellent quality and drink price was very reasonable. I've been to Fah Thai three times now and it is hands down my favourite thai place. The food is amazingly good and the service is always excellent. I usually leave the place stuffed to my gills and yet still reluctant to leave any food on the plate.

Came here on a date to impress a young lady who really likes Thai food. Having sampled the Thai food in other places in Portsmouth, I can say that Fah Thai is easily the best of the bunch. Once you get over the all pervading smell...and the 4 hygiene rating you are subjected to the kindest hospitality ever....cant fault the ever so sincere staff.

We went last night to eat before visiting the Kings Theatre. First class service with first class food. The chocolate pudding was out of this world. I believe there’s been a comparatively recent change of ownership and the new people are certainly making an impression.

The best Thai meal we have had in years, we ordered the set meal for 2 and the food was so fresh, hot, delicious and cooked to perfection. All presented perfectly and it was the best Thai green curry I’ve ever had in my life. Just divine! Thank you!

Nothing to criticise here, fresh ingredients freshly prepared excellent service and the desert, seriously! How do they make it so delicious. Anyone who enjoys good food will not be disappointed with this restaurant. Definitely coming back for more. Over and out.
