This is now "The Cobbles" - a little wine bar with great decor and cocktails - but sadly also a really pretentious and unwelcoming "maitre d" who doesn't smile, speaks to you like you are beneath him and rather than just graciously top up a cocktail when we felt the measure was a cm too low (not accounting for the cognac in the glass) chooses to go and get a measure, pour it of water and then wave it in your face. Unbelievable service - in stark stark contrast to the wonderful and welcoming Shambles in the Crooked House nearby, and the incredible A la Russe we had just come from (my birthday dinner - I had reserved a table at The Cobbles for cocktails after and they even knew it was a birthday). The worst service I have encountered in Windsor by a country mile. Such a shame.

Mala forma.

The only positive about our experience was that our waitress was pleasant and apologetic at the end. Other than that, it was a fiasco. The primary thing I will remember is our food getting delivered to another table (after a long wait) and then, after the food sat at the other table for a while, their trying to pass it off to us, lukewarm, afterwards. We ended up reordering everything and waiting a long time - again. They ended up offering us free beverages and ultimately didn't charge us for one of the dishes we ordered. The food overall was mediocre.

Murphy's law says if something can go wrong it will. We spent a wonderful day in Windsor visiting the castle and later tea on a river cruise. All lovely. This however was the fly in the ointment. Situated in a pretty old building opposite the entrance the Castle we always knew this was likely to be a bit of a tourist trap. But the weather was sunny and warm and there was a table outside. All good do far. We ordered a pot of tea for two. The water was cold so we had to ask for a fresh pot. My wife ordered a salmon and avocado salad. She had to search for the avocado amongst a huge bowl of uncut lettuce. No tomatoes or cucumber or anything other than lettuce. So really dull and tasteless. I ordered a club sandwich with chicken and bacon. That was perfectly fine. It came with chips which were stone cold as soon as they hit the table. They were changed at once for fresh hot ones so quite why I was served cold ones is anyone's guess. To cap it off we had to fight off wasps all the time which made for a really unpleasant experience. Such a shame as the location was pretty and simple basic things let this place down. Maybe we were unlucky....

We came here after visiting Windsor Castle. It was cool because you could eat outside and still see part of the castle. We each had pies. We had the Shepard’s pie and the chicken and mushroom pie. Both equally delicious. Also the pork scratching with applesauce. I’m not sure if they were short staffed because the service was a little slow, but the food was delicious and I would recommend this place!

You’re pounced upon in the street, when you sit down, you’re given a menu. It took the chap an age to take the order. A cup of tea, a smoothie, hot chocolate and a coke. Took ages to have them served. The red tea pot was rusty on the inside. Didn’t like that a service charge is added on without asking. Won’t be returning!

A cute cafe, loved the antiquated staircase. But quite cramped inside and the food quality is not great. The prices are inflated (inevitably as in Windsor) and a portions were a bit small for the price. Also a pet hate of mine, they add a service charge automatically for a group of just two! I wouldn’t personally go there again.

Paramos para un bocado rápido. Pedí té y bollos con crema y mermelada. Gran error. !

We were looking for a quick bite after our tour of the castle. Pleasantly surprised by the warm greeting and looks as though we are walking into someone’s home. And we felt as though we were being welcomed into and served by a welcoming family with friends around. This would not be your typical “restaurant” but a bit of historical meal that you can obviously tell is prepared and served with care by the staff or “family” and chef. It wasn’t perfect by all means but very lovely to say the least. The meal I would have to say was by far my best on my trip to UK for the week! The Shepard’s pie and fish and ships! I would highly recommend stopping in for lunch or tea, it’s served with a smile and they obviously take pride in the establishment being over 400 years old. Attended with my wife, father in law, son and daughter whilst visiting our son in Windsor. All our meals were ordered with me ordering a house special made chicken pasty meal. When the meals arrived four were excellent. My meal consisted of an extremely small flat pasty, literally a spoonful of mushy peas and a small gravy boat at a cost of £12.95. I had no quibbles about the price but what was served was certainly not value for money. However our host asked how our meals were and I explained I was unhappy. Despite my saying no he insisted that he bring me an alternative meal which was excellent. He also insisted that I pay for only one of my meals. Could not recommend the food and service highly enough.

Lovely little historic place. My husband and I chose to have pies. They came and we were so disappointed, talk about portion control taken to the extreme. Of course everywhere these days are cutting back but it was ridiculous! Literally 1 tablespoon of mushy peas (no exaggeration, and we are not greedy people) and no mash?? Isnt this standard with pies especially in London. And about three tablespoons of gravy. THE PIES THEMSELVES WERE HOMEMADE AND DELICIOUS I MUST SAY.

My wife and I visited Windsor for the day and looked for somewhere to have lunch. We chanced upon Drury House and decided to at there. It is in an excellent location and we sat outside, where we had a good view of one of the entrances to Windsor Castle. We were made to feel very welcome and our drinks and meal orders were taken quickly. My wife had fish pie, which she enjoyed, and I had fish and chips. I find that fish and chips can be very variable in quality - overcooked, too much batter, poor quality of fish being the main problems. On this occasion Drury House got it spot on and I didn't feel that rather sickly feeling when you've eaten something with too much batter and fat. We both had pudding - my wife had knickerblocker glory and I had sticky toffee pudding - and enjoyed our choices. The service throughout was prompt and friendly. We would definitely eat there again.

Having read glowing reviews we expected at least standard quality pub fare if not better - but the food was much worse, and very expensive considering what was served. The previously prepared hamburgers and fish were just barely store bought quality, cooked dry and flavourless, with a pitiful but fresh side salad and very poor quality chips. The Drury House has been operating as a wonderfully cosy restaurant for more than 65 years to my certain knowledge. In all that time it has never failed to provide excellent fare in a captivating historic environment. The 17th-century panelled walls and original timber staircase up through three floors perfectly complement the good traditional English food which is most reasonably priced too. A generous basket of perfectly toasted teacakes, butter and jam, served with friendly efficiency, gave us an ideal afternoon tea on a wet November afternoon. We will definitely continue to go there for other meals too whenever visiting Windsor.

As probably everyone else did, we came here after exiting the castle. The building was built in 1645 and the inside appears that way as it’s stacked vertically over three floors with small eating rooms on each. The interior was typical pub and cozy.I had their Baby Back Ribs, full slab, which came with chips and coleslaw, and it was excellent. My wife had a burger and it was large, also with chips. Definitely a great lunch stop.

After visiting Windsor Castle, we were famished and found this delightful restaurant just across the road from the castle. We enjoyed a delicious dinner with excellent friendly service. The setting was lovely sitting outside with views of the castle. Our server could not have been more kind and efficient. After enjoying a great dessert, we celebrated the Queen's longest reign with a complimentary glass of port! Highly recommended.

Came here for lunch after a visit to windsor castle.the guy on the door (Steve?)was very welcoming and funny.we even heard him ask the lads serving why we hadn't had our food yet but to be fair I had ordered the mixed grill so expected a slight wait anyway but to be honest I never once thought it was taking too long. The hand cut chips were superb and the meat done just right. The traditional building is also to be admired.my kids were fascinated seeing the old style food lift bringing the food up from the kitchen.overall great food and well priced.

The Drury House is beautifully located in Church Street which is immediately opposite the exit from Windsor Castle. The property was built in 1645 and is famous for becoming part of the abode of Nell Gwyn, Charles II favourite mistress. We were looking for a light bite following a visit to the castle and were viewing the menus in a number of restaurants/cafes in Church Street when we were 'ambushed' by a cheerful and bubbly 'barrow boy' type character (could it have been the proprietor Mr.Turner) who with his enthusiasm persuaded us to have our lunch at the Drury House. We dined outside, so I am unable to review the interior. We had an excellent light meal with very good service. This venue is very convenient for a bite to eat after your visit to the castle. Recommended

Lovely setting and good service from staff but food failed to deliver. We ordered the steak and Guinness pie which we told was "sort of open" but came out as a reheated slice of beef pie with dried out pastry. The mash was a sweet potato mash which, while tasty, is not what you would expect in a traditional pie and mash lunch. The 'breadcrumb' mushrooms were deep fried, oily, tasteless and served with a cheap sweet chilli sauce. On a positive note the young man who served us was lovely and very helpful with the wine selection. The manager however hung around in the doorway which made dining uncomfortable.

We were on an 11 hour layover at Heathrow and decided to visit Windsor for a tour and lunch. The food here was fine, the service was excellent and the atmosphere was just what a bunch of Americans needed before flying back to the states. There were six of us and they redesigned the seating in the bar foe us, got us seated, ordered some local beer and had our fish and chips in no time. The two men who handled us told our 2 teenagers about the place and its history. The toilets are on the top floor, not an easy stair but we all made it.

We went to visit Windsor as our friends visited UK. The restaurant just few steps away from the Windsor castle and the host of the restaurant was very welcoming! The food was very good and the view was fantastic. The host knew the menu very well and recommended local drinks which was very nice. Definitely recommending it! If we will visit Windsor again we definitely will come back.

We stopped in to this charming little place with a very friendly server and had their special of the day--beef stew. Sounds ordinary, right? Except, it was delicious. Usually, my wife and I always order two different things and share, just to experience variety. This day we both had the beef stew, which is good, because I would not have wanted to share mine.

This tea room/restaurant is positioned ideally next to the Castle. We went in for tea and cake. Despite it's 17th Century Claim, it looks like it hasn't been decorated since then! Teacakes came cut in half in a bread basket with a pot of jam where the jam had dripped over the side. No Butter and the Tea was served in one of those delightful motorway cafe stainless steel pots. My Chocolate Cake had obviously been left out for a while as it had a nice hardness about the sponge. Watching a waiter clean the next table...to use a famous ladies phrase, he was economical with the cloth...I mean why wipe under the table mats? The bill came to about £1 short of £15 and when I went up to pay, suddenly a policy of £15 minimum on cards was introduced. So I rounded it up with a tip. I would like to offer here another tip to the owners, sell up and find a business you understand.P.S. my partner runs restaurants, so we were looking with a slightly expert eye!

Was looking for a place to eat in Windsor on a Sunday afternoon and stumbled upon the Drury House. It was a very enchanting place; an old beautiful building which made it feel more special than going to a chain. Me and my girlfriend had the roast dinner- the portion size was really good and the roast was delicious. The service added to a great experience here, as the young waiter was helpful and efficient. I will definitely revisit when next in Windsor.

Stopped by for lunch in this lovely old building- full of history. The food was very good, we had the home cooked pies, good sized portions and great value for the quality. The staff were very friendly and attentive, the whole place had a lovely relaxed feel and I will definitely be back, the afternoon tea looked very appealing! Would recommend.

Creaky old building in the shadows of the Palace.Stopped in today mid-afternoon when the place was half-full. Staff were friendly and effective.Great Ploughmans - really nice ham, bread, pickled onions. Big slab of ok-not-great cheese, and a little side salad.Tea was very good made from boiling water (US establishments take note..)Apple crumble made a la mode upon request.Restroom up two more flights of narrow stairs.Very good value.

The team on the floor were very chirpy and polite. The humour is of an aquired taste but i found them to be great hosts. Unfortunatly the food was average/poor. I am sure the standard of food could be improved with little effort, maybe a new chef? We are famous as a country for a 'banging roast' but when Toby carvery are doing a better job, you really must review your position and standards. My son had a childrens fish fingers. He received 3 fish fingers and a rocket salad. Not in anyway appropriate for a 4 year old lol. Reasonable price for the area, but the quality and portion size make it a poor choice. Please improve as we would re visit just to see steve again. Joker! Try some new chefs, good oppourtunity for newish owners. Stay happy

Visited on the 5th of February 2015, I regret walking passed the Drury House the first time. We was looking for food and wanted to show my friends from Brazil home made English food, the sign out side saying Homemade Stew made the winning choice for me with all the other pubs and restaurants dotted around Windsor. As soon as we walked in we was greeted with smiles and a hot fire. Stew, hot fire and a friendly service was ideal for the 3°c weather. Definitely coming back!

Came in to enjoy some afternoon tea and escape the cold. Was charmed by the cute little tea room and got a seat right next to the cosy fire. My friend and I ordered the 'Cream Tea' which was listed as two scones and a pot of tea, planning to share this as neither of us were very hungry. The server asked if we wanted two servings, but we said no. We were brought two scones and a large pot of tea, I merely thought this was a generous serving and was feeling very pleased with the value- that is, until we received the bill. We had been charged for the cream tea as ordered, but also for an extra serving of tea at an extra 2.25. When we reminded the server we had only ordered one serving, he told us, very snappishly, that he had given us a large pot of tea for two and that we would be required to pay for it. A 10% service charge had also been added, not merely suggested. I found his manner and attitude very rude as we had made it very clear we only wanted one serving. I feel that if you are going to serve a party more than what they order and intend to charge them for it, you should at least do them the courtesy of saying that they will be charged more and give them the option to decline. Even though the restaurant was very cosy with a nice atmosphere, unfortunately the server's dishonesty and attitude left me with a very poor taste in my mouth, and I would not recommend to anyone that they should go there.

Great stop for lunch after a walk around the local area. We just had the open sandwiches which were delicious especially accompanied with some mayo and truffle fries. Hope to come back soon. Thanks for being so welcoming.

La Croisette situated within Daniel's department store. Family run restaurant serving great food all day, whether it's a fulfilling breakfast, scrummy lunch or just a coffee or tea break, call in & have a relaxing meal in a lovely store, you won't be disappointed!
