Crown Cafe, The British Flavour in Windsor and Maidenhead

Staff are friendly and cake selection is good. However, the cafe isn’t clean and the teapot and cups had seen better days. The ladies toilet is awful!

This cafe has to be one of the worst I’ve ever visited. Great location and no queues but that’s where the positives stop! We ordered two sausage rolls and lattes for £12.50. The lattes were bland, the sausage rolls were the worst we’ve ever tasted..dry and tasteless and hard to digest! Staff not welcoming and anppear d like they didn’t want to be there, slamming plates onto the table. Overpriced food and substandard service! Should have read the reviews first!

While nearby eateries were busy, this place was nice and quiet, although I can't think why. I had a very tasty lasagne, followed by delicious cake and coffee. Reasonable prices and good service.

Awful! Walk past do not enter? Group of 8 hungry and enticed by window display of fresh cakes (mass produced and clearly not made on site) General appearance inside: tired, unkept and lacking atmosphere. Repeat requests for cutlery eventually arrived dirty. Jacket potato obviously chucked in microwave. Frozen in middle. Inedible! Refund provided on exit. Food was not even average certainly not worth the price. The best part of the experience was leaving the premises.

Obviously the people going into this cafe you would not want to be around my daughter left her build a bear stitch that meant a lot to her in here today and as soon as we realised we went back and it had gone and ofcourse a child may have wanted it but as a parent or an adult you would say no it’s somebody else’s and hand it in but obviously there is dishonest people in the nicest of places

Popped into this little cafe after touring around Windsor Castle. We didn't fancy anything from the chain fast food shops and this looked ideal. Lovely display of cakes in the window and a few savouries inside. The filling in the panini and rolls looked sparse and didn't look fresh (although this was at about 3pm) and we thought overpriced at £7 each. However the sausage rolls and pasties did look nice and fresh. We bought a pasty and sausage roll, a latte and expresso and one of the cakes. Everything was very tasty especially the coffee. The best take away coffee I've had in a very long time. What we had filled a deep hole as we hadn't eaten all day. The staff were extremely pleasant and service was quick. I would recommend the Crown Cafe but I would hope they would read the constructive criticism of the reviews and adjust the fillings on the paninis and rolls to justify the price they charge. I would rate the 7/10

I came in here with my family on a busy bank holiday Monday. If this review was just on my food experience it would have been a 1 star but in the interests of fairness I will push it to a 2 as some members of the group said their food was ok. I had eggs royale which really wasn’t good. I had to leave half of it as it was inedible. Remarkable they managed a rock hard yolk with a snotty white on the poached eggs. The hygiene didn’t appear great as I watched a member of staff carry a bag of waste with a plate o food. All this coupled with Windsor prices (they initially overcharged by £10 until it was pointed out and was rectified promptly). All in all a bad experience.

This is literally one of the worst places we have ever visited! Please don't go there. The cakes in the window look nice although we were after breakfast. We ordered 2 rolls with sausage and egg. You had to order and pay at the takeaway counter even if eating in. We sat down at a table, and then the person we ordered from walked through the cafe carrying a plate with 2 ciabatas and went through a door to upstairs. Alarm bells in my head, but we had paid. A few minutes later, the ciabatas were brought back downstairs through the door and put on our table. They had been microwaved. Microwaved ciabata, rubbery and hard to chew, with microwaved cheap sausage and truly the most rubbery precooked egg that had been microwaved too. It was revolting. After we got home I read the reviews, dreadful place and a seriously bad hygiene rating too. Avoid!

We stopped in here twice while going to Windsor Castle. The first was for a take-away coffee while browsing the area, and it was very good. After touring the castle we sat inside and had tea, a Cornish pasty and cheese and onion pasty. It was all delicious. Now it is a bit of a small hole-in-the-wall type place but we don’t mind that at all. Prices were fair, service pleasant and fast.

The window full of cakes looked so appealing we decided to take some home . They looked home baked but looks can be deceiving ! 3 slices of cake were bland and the donuts were stale avoid this overpriced cafe !! I wish we had read the reviews before venturing in as there seems to be much better cake shops !

Well needed nice breakfast after a poor stay the Mercure Heathrow. Breakfast was lovely, eggs runny and tea in a pot, happy!

Called in here last sat for cake, looked so good in the window, have to strongly agree with the disapointing reviews, for the price, both pieces of cake were very dry. Lesson learned.

Very disappointing doughnuts. They looked so nice but were hugely overpriced and tasteless. I’m all for supporting a local business but don’t waste your money here.

Went to buy a strawberry fruit tart for takeaway. Found the quality very mediocre and the price was £4.50 (in summer 2022). There are much better fruit tarts elsewhere.

I don't like to leave bad reviews but felt I needed to comment today. Stale bread, poor quality sandwich fillings, Stale and flavourless biscuits. Over priced and very disappointing and no where near a good representation of the 'British Flavour'

I have never known a place to go so downhill, the staff were so rude, ignorant, the coffee was undrinkable food was served separately, and luke warm, will NEVER be returning to this place, seems I am not the only one!!

We had breakfast here, a bacon roll each and a pot of tea. The bacon roll was delicious, tea was good and the service was efficient. This cafe exceeded our expectations!

This used to be favourite place for us to stop for lunch, obviously it's now changed hands and the character, atmosphere and style have gone. We arrived with our 18 month old grandson, sat and waited to be served. A staff member walked over and without even a hint of an apology said 'kitchen's closed'. We left and suggested it would be wise to put a sign outside if food is no longer available. This was met with a dismissive look and silence! Awful place, will ensure family and friends stay well clear of this 'establishment' when visiting Windsor.

Bought a coffee there. It tasted very bitter, when telling them it was the worst tasting coffee I have ever been sold, they shrugged their shoulder and told me no one had complained to them before. They told me that whatever coffee they made it would be made the same and offered nothing else. I left the coffee, it tasted so bad. The staff was unfriendly and obviously not caring about selling bitter bad tasting coffee.
