As the “costa training centre” if this one ain’t good then you ain’t going to get any better. It was a massive building with beautiful views of the canal in the back areas. Two outdoor seating areas on the main town road and down in the water side. Very busy but helpful and efficient staff with lots of space inside.

Nice bright Costa with very attentive staff who were bright and cheery - a welcome experience for an early morning start .

Went to the newly reopened Costa on Northbrook Street today for a first proper coffee in months. My latte was perfect! Congratulations to Costa and staff in these difficult times, and I look forwards to my next visit.

Always chose flat white. Very good on this occasion. Hot and strong. My friend tried a flat white with coconut milk. I may give it a whirl next time.

It was a blustery Sunday morning and we needed somewhere to grab a coffee and a sandwich. Nowhere was open except MacDonalds and Costa, so it was an easy choice. The coffee was great, the sandwich so-so, but it filled a gap. The servers were great though.

I visited this Costa with my wife as we are fans of the chain and this coffee shop was ideally situated in the retail shopping area with nice views alongside the river and was very spacious. However, the place was incredibly grubby and not normally what you would expect from this coffee chain. We have visited many Costa's across the country and this was by far the worst. The staff were friendly and efficient but everything and everywhere you looked was dirty and dusty. This shop needs some TLC as it clearly had not been cleaned properly for some time, and other customers were writing comments in the dust on the display counter glass, it was so thick. We only hope that this is not a sign of things to come. Senior management and Coke Cola needs to wake up or they are going to loose out to competition just along the street.

We always go here as lots of space for families, great coffee and eats, wonderful service, thank you Annette its like a family.

Fine service, didn’t have to wait long and there seating available. Received a very beaten up espresso mug with a number of chips around the rim

This is by far one of the worst coffee shops I’ve ever been too and judging by other reviews others seem to agree!! The staff are obnoxious, rude and Unapologetic for the poor running of the store and the fact it can take 20 min to get a coffee. The store is dated and very dirty, tables are never cleared or cleaned, usually only one person actually making drinks so the queues are awful. The people running this place clearly have new clue how to manage a business as you don’t heat food knowing drinks will take at least 15 min then moan that the customer wants food re-heating or fresh food. Simply worst place in Newbury... cheap for a reason! Go to coffee #1, Pret or Cafe Nero much better service and at least they are clean!

never enough staff here and will not be returning, the shop is badly managed in terms of staffing and operationally.... this just increases the wait time for customers. When made a cold coffee or you when you wait so long for your food that it goes cold, asking them to re-heat it or make your drink again the staff are extremely rude and unhelpful. AVOID this place at all costs it is simply for people as a last resort or have no idea what good service or coffee is! The management should be ashamed of this store are service offered ( as almost every other review confirms). Shame Starbucks has closed as the service there was exceptional....

We don't usually patronise chain coffee shops but new to area and pavements were icy from recent snow, so it was the first cafe came to. Massive queues, staff couldn't keep up (maybe weather caused staff shortage ??) and the whole place felt unclean. Tables hadn't been cleaned with rubbish on floor but the furniture had also seen better days (not acceptable Costa). The toilet was pretty disgusting. I felt sorry for the young staff who were rushed off their feet but kept smiling.

We stopped for hot chocolates at this quaint waterside Costa. Service was a little slow and some of the tables had not been cleared although they were vacant. When I asked for help to clear the tables this was attended to promptly and without question

Dirty shop, there were more tables littered with empty cups and plates than there were available to sit at firstly. Simply ordered 2 toasted sandwiches and tea for a quick nibble with my partner. £4 for a small greasy little sandwich, asked for some ketchup, and was told I had to pay for the sachets? Really?? No thanks, not for me again

Coffee house was OK. Had to use the wheelchair accessible toilet. Wheelchair should fit between toilet and the wall for transfer. Baby changing table and 3, Yes THREE huge nappy bins make it inaccessible. Nappy changing should not be in wheelchair accessible toilets for this very reason.

Title says it all really. Its an ideal location at the end of the high street & over looking part of the canal. However, the service here is shocking. Its not that anyone is particularly rude or anything. Its that the service is very slow & disorganised. I understand this is a training academy for Costa. Unfortunately that is not an excuse to give poor service to paying customers. I am happy to report that generally the Costa brand & standards are pretty good &, as such, there is a degree of expectation to maintain or exceed those standards. This is not the case here. I have visited this store a few times & sadly each time the service was poor. To be honest I will not be visiting it a fourth time. If you are in the area, there are quite a few other coffee shops to choose from &, if you simply must have your Costa 'fix' then I highly recommend taking the 10 minute walk to the shop at Parkway shopping centre. The service there is exceptional. I don't like to give this low a rating but, serious improvements need to be made here!

As a frequent customer of Costa, I know what to expect from their coffee shops and from outside, this Costa looked very inviting. It has large comfy chairs positioned by windows that either overlooked the high street or the canal. The choice of food here was good too - it had the usual array of sandwiches, panini and toasties as well as a plentiful selection of cakes and sweet treats! Service was a little on the slow side but the staff were working as quickly as they could considering the amount of orders they were taking within a short space of time. The service could have been slightly more efficient and well managed (I.e once the toasties were ready they were just plonked on the side with no note or number to say whose they were!) Luckily we were on the ball and had stayed by the service counter whilst we waited. Food quality itself was very good and my ham and cheese toastie was lovely and hot. The atmosphere inside was relaxed which made for a pleasurable lunch in town. Overall a comfortable Costa, but service could be more organised and tables could be cleaner.

Cappuccino delivered without chocolate and staff too busy chatting to indicate that it was ready for collection. Lemon drizzle served with a knife, rather than the more traditional and useful fork. Someone else had the same problem with a hot panini.

Sunday morning coffee should be a pleasure but with the poor cleaning standard that seems to prevail in this establishment, it is anything but. Dirty seats, tables, carpet and hard floors. This coupled with the underlying smell of grime, it is anything but. Coffee shops should smell of coffee. Not at the top of my list by a long shot.

No debería de tarifa diferente de cualquier otro Costa, pero me inclino a estar de acuerdo con todas las críticas que se siente cansada y descuidada. Comimos allí y cuando tuvimos un problema con la cantidad de fruta de la pasión y Mango nuestro enfriador acabamos de hombros y el servidor dijo que seguido la receta. No hay mucho en el departamento de servicio y no había gerente en vista. Decepcionado y mejor para dar una pierda esta costa. Una pena, ya que ir a la costa todo el tiempo y quizás es una señal de cosas por venir.

Un montón de ventanas. a diferencia de la mayoría de cafeterías, que son oscuras newburys. . . Habitual. café y una selección de bebidas, un montón de comida. . Y mesas fuera hacia el Kennett Canal. . Completamente Encantador..

Went to this Costa for the first time yesterday. Coffee and food OK but toilets disgusting. Hand basin hadn't been cleaned in weeks and door was filthy. Husband said same about the gents.

Telarañas sobre la zona de preparación de la comida, el personal usando los mismos de la cuchilla para cortar la comida. Debe utilizar d10 para 'Limpiar' utensilios?

Costa is usually very busy on Saturdays and even with plenty of staff to accommodate, it feels like cleanliness is being overlooked as there are so many flies buzzing around the dessert display. I decided the last time I was there that I would go somewhere else the next time- with plenty of coffee shops in Newbury, I'm sure there are other places that are cleaner.

Visited early on a Sunday. Found it ironic that there is a Costa training academy in the adjacent building. Some tips for the trainees: Wear hair nets or tie your hair back, there were 2 gents serving with hair that 1) was of such a style that it was in his line of vision so had to keep tossing his head to see what he was doing, 2) simply greasy (yuk). Serve hot coffee as opposed to luke warm. Clean cups work wonders, I actually thought it was cracked but the barista told me it was marked where another had been stacked on top of it so that was ok (the mark was a coffee stain upon further inspection and rubbed off on my finger so a thorough clean would had resolved that issue).Clean the grill as spill ages occur rather than when they are caked on 24 hours later.Customers tend to prefer to read that day's newspapers rather than yesterday's.Apart from that standard Costa!

The view over the canal and general location is excellent, it was spoiled on this visit by the number of dirty tables, food on chairs and floor.The staff were obviously overworked as they were trying to catch up on clearing the debris and still stayed cheerful and polite to the customers. Coffee and food was the usual that one always gets in Costas

I ordered a tea which I got but minus milk and spoon so had to ask for those items. The tables were dirty and the toilet has to be seen to be believed. It's a hygiene risk to all clientele and has clearly never seen any cleaning products on the walls, in the basin, on and in the loo, floor, etc. Paper was strewn everywhere and the waste bin was full - at 11am. The staff were scruffy in appearance and the 'manager' looked as if he needed a shower and hairwash. Really, what a dump and Costa ought to be ashamed of itself. Staff training is clearly needed in all aspects of personal presentation, restaurant cleanliness and hygiene risks when a toilet is filthy. Potential customers - avoid this place if you want to stay safe.

Always nice to Visit Costa for occasional weekend Coffee. Offer good ambiance, nice staff always welcoming.

This is really busy cafe sometimes cannot get a table.it always have loads of staff coffee is nice and there hot chocolate is scrumy.nice to sit outside and watch the boats go by

Amazing location of this costa coffee makes the add on stars for this place. Cleanliness is a bit problem but the tables near riverside are amazing location for spending sunny mornings.

Costas always offer a good coffee, and this branch has a very pleasant location beside the bridge overlooking the canal. Friendly staff. Very conveniently located right in the heart of the town centre. A good place to relax and meet friends. And Newbury is a very pleasant little town, with lots of places to eat. Worth having a wander rather than just passing through on the A34!

Visited today at lunch time. Relatively quiet with plenty of spare tables. The wait was rather long. Three members of staff at the counter, including the Manager. The queue just seemed to build up, the staff weren't in any rush. The staff's appearance and personal hygiene seemed were a concern. The 'Manager' in particular looked unwashed, with greasy hair. On a side note, as I waited for my drink, one of the team members remarked to the Manager that you could tell it was "busy when the machines are really filthy." Wow. Clean them up then? Didn't inspire confidence. Judging by their own personal standards, I can't imagine they put much effort into cleaning the equipment. We were there for well over an hour and a quarter, in which time the tables around me were never cleared, cleaned or wiped. The toilet areas also disgusting. Myself and my colleague, on the basis of everything noted above, decided not to eat here. Plenty of options on the high street, we won't be back.

I love the views from this place. I like the drinks , cakes etc. I've always found the staff pleasant, but the toilets awful!Sadly, this is not what I'd expect from this chain. Someone please sort this out.....Yes I have written to point this out to the company a while back, a few months ago, but it's not made any difference.Just be aware.......

Can't fault Costa, everyhting as you would expect from this quality outlet. Mind, it was very quiet today.

On our order for two hot chocolates one tea & a Bakewell tart first given a cup for tea with a large unclean crack on rim when I asked for another one assistant put her fingers inside replacement cup & handed it to me, I looked in horror at inside of said cup to see brown coffee stains at bottom.Hot chocolate wasn't hot & was only just tinted off white due to lack of chocolate ! This experience cost £9.55

Good views from cafe, hot chocolate needs to be hotter, prices always amaze me as its expensive for a drink. Staff are fine.

Don't know why I keep coming back. Always a 15+ minute wait for a coffee. Gone are the days when a coffee was almost instantaneous! Shame.

I am from South Africa and I visited Newbury during September 2015, and Costa Coffee shop near the Parkway Shopping Centre specifically on September 9, with my two sons, the younger one residing in Newbury. It was a wondrous experience. The ambiance certainly captured my attention: the most beautiful personalized lounge area upstairs, the service excellent and the coffee simply the most aromatic experience I even had! It is very important to relax in an attractively decorated coffee shop, with clean and spacious and private areas. Although there are enough outside tables, I preferred to simply rest my tourist's feet in the lovely interior lounge. Thank you, Costa, for the sweet treats and magnificent coffee, so well presented!

Costa is one of our favourite places for a Sunday afternoon tea if we are in Newbury town centre. It's quite spacious so never had a problem where to sit, staff is always polite and serve fast. The best thing about that place is it's location - lovely canal views in every time of the year.

Nice friendly Costa. Fairly long queues at 10.30am but understandable. Usual standard of coffee. Ok toilets.

Huge cafe, lots of seating and also a lovely area outside facing the canal for fine days. Lovely place to meet friends and ok to bring your children. Good coffee and other drinks, nice eats, friendly staff. I use this cafe at least twice a week if not more often.

Queued for nearly 20 mins just to order 3 coffees with a further 5 minute wait for them to be made, very frusterating that service was so slow and such a popular time of day to have coffee. Only one member of staff making coffees, surely this could be sped up by having a few members of staff making coffees at once whilst others took the orders, very inefficient for a large coffee chain such as Costa.Coffee was also too weak, virtually a cup of warm milk!One positive was the outside seating area alongside the canal, warm and sunny around mid-morning and is a nice place to enjoy a coffee once you've finally made it through the queue!

Sadly my last few visits have not been great. Short staffed, long queues and having to clear tables yourself. That said the coffee was good if surged by a grumpy Barista!

Nicer hot chocolate but the greatest is the river view. Polite personel and big space without many tables.

This is part of a chain ( so don't expect prices to be too cheap) but what you get in this little gem is more than a cup of coffee. it is situated on the Bridge with HUGE glass windows, overlooking the canal. Probably THE most spacious Coffee shop in town. Always cool to be in, spacious, light and airy.The menu has lots of choice: coffee, cold drinks, cakes and sandwiches etc with a variety of size and choice for all ages. There are lots of comfy places to sit- including a terrace on the canal-side. The staff are very pleasant and always flexible with requests ( extra milk, less ice etc) . I have literally sat her for hours, drinking, eating, chatting and just generally enjoying watching the world go by on the street and canal. I have never felt rushed or annoying to staff.There are 2 other Costas in Newbury, but this is the only one I would recommend. They have a loyalty card system too. if you are in the town, I would highly recommend it for a coffee break- I don't think you'd be disappointed.

First try of new coffee blend - OK. All the normal and expected pastries and sandwiches. Costa tends to be my coffee bar of choice when in the UK. It's reliable and the toilets are usually clean.

Costa offers the same experience every time. The food is good - for lunch, the sandwiches always taste the same and they are tasty but how many times can you eat the same thing and drink the same tasting weak coffee. It tends to get very busy at lunchtimes and at the weekends, but the seating area outside next to the canal is a bonus.

I would say the staff need re-training but my experience with most Costa staff is that they are just simply rude and don't really care about their level of service or customer experience. The queues are horrific and not because they are so good that people queue for miles just that it takes them so long to make a very average coffee, i would avoid all of the Costas in Newbury and try Nero or Starbucks instead, the local cafes cant make good coffee either

Great for coffee, Tea , hot chocolate Fantastic cakes . I cant go to Costa and not have a cake . I have tried but impossible ! We sat outside in the sunshine at Newbury Retail Park . Will we go again.. Oh yes . Try the chocolate and caramel cake. Or just chocolate or Victoria sponge . Or Cappachino with marshmallows .. Ok not for those on a diet but too tempting...

Such a friendly atmosphere and staff always welcoming. Seems to be used by casual visitors, business people, family groups plus friends meet up. There is plenty of seating inside plus more tables outside by the canal - a popular area in the summer. The used crockery is not allowed to sit for long, even the Manager lends a hand. My favourite drink - mocha cortado - is made to perfection and the cinnamon sprinkles, well what can one say!

My husband and I often pop in for a coffee in Newbury, anything up to 4 times a week. Enjoy their coffee hugely and in the summer loved their mint and lime iced drinks. The Costa in Northbrooke Street in Newbury overlooks the canal at the back and its a lovely cafe...lots of comfy chairs and sofa's. Lovely place to while away half an hour with a book and a really tasty cup of coffee. Good service also.

Nice staff, great seating, comfortable, fresh pastries...stopped in every day. In a good central location. Large amount of seating on 2 levels and some outside seating in the shopping areas

We went on a busy Saturday afternoon to find just 2 staff serving and the queue right back by the door. We wanted a sandwich but wasn't a lot of offer as hadn't had time to restock. Even when busy a hello would be nice. Tables were very dirty. Won't be hurrying back anytime soon
