Had takeaway fish and chips today,probably the worst I've ever had.

What an amazing lunch; worth every minute of the drive from London. I'm glad we booked in advance, as the place did get busy in the afternoon. Service was impeccable and friendly; the kitchen was spotless; and the food was scrumptious. As Arnold Schwarzenegger once famously said, "I'll be back". 😄☀️

Decided to have dinner at Chipwicks Award Winning fish and chips. Food was fantastic and the staff looked after us superbly. My large cod and chips were superb, as was my wife's grilled cod and chips. Definitely recommend, and we will definitely be returning ☺️

Hands down the best fish and chips in the area. Recently redecorated, looks like a lot spent on new cooking equipment. The cod and chips could not be improved. Nice tables and chairs, bar available for those dining. Service always excellent and friendly servers. Recommend booking, Fridays are especially busy.

We had family down from Cornwall and decided to have fish and chips to save cooking. We have used Chipwicks in the past and always been very satisfied. Unfortunately this time the batter was soggy and greasy and the chips were not much better. After spending over £50 it was very disappointing to have to waste so much.

Decided to have dinner at the refurbished Chipwicks. Booked a table for 2 easily. All the staff were great and looked after us superbly. I had a large line caught cod and chips with mushy peas, and my wife had regular grilled cod and chips with tartar sauce. We had a drink each. My fish was to die for, and the chips were so scrummy. The batter was so tasty. To be honest, my large meal was too big for me. My only grumble is, I'd like a choice of bread as I prefer brown. Otherwise, I can't recommend highly enough and will definitely be going back. It wasn't cheap, but we felt it was totally worth it .

Had a beautiful meal here. Traditional cod and chips which were generous in size and a special from the menu, bouillabaisse, which was spurs, full of seafood in a rich tomato and rustic vegetable sauce. Again really generous in portion size.

On a mission to pick up a birthday present for my partner I decided to make the most of a winter day by the seaside. I had a perch seat facing the road and as a first time visitor I'm not sure if you can get a sea view but the welcome was warm, the beer was local, the food was great so it was a good place to be that day.

This is hands down my favourite chip shop in the UK. Service is incredible, food is delicious. I absolutely recommend visiting.

We eat out a lot, but both agreed this was the best food we had eaten for as long as we could remember (including a couple of very expensive recent meals). One of us had traditional cod, chips and mushy peas while the other had the special that was baked cod, coconut potatoes and chorizo with broccoli. The first you might expect to be perfect, but the special consisted of soft flakey cod, new potatoes that tasted as if they were fresh from the ground, cooked to perfection, and broccoli that was equally perfectly prepared and melted in the mouth. Great Picpoul too from the wine list. Superb friendly service and the bill was less than we thought it would be. A good reason to go back to Worthing soon!

The chips were not crispy enough! Battered sausage was nice, I love a battered sausage!

Visited here this week and asked for a smaller portion. I was informed by a female waitress that I could have the OAP lunch special even though I wasn't an OAP. I thought this sounded perfect. I was informed that it would be a smaller portion (and it was). I think it was £12.95. I was then charged for mushy peas and a cup of tea on top of that which brought my total lunch to a cost of more than the normal (big)lunch special which is £15.95 and includes the mushy peas and tea. So for having a much smaller portion of fish and chips, I ended up paying more than had I just ordered the normal lunch special. This seemed completely wrong and I think that the OAPs around me probably got their fish and chips, mushy peas and tea for £12.95 all in. So I wasn't happy at all and should have said something at the time - I think the waitress knew what she had done. So yes, the food was tasty - its certainly not a cheap lunch and I do think the portions could be better sized for those that don't want a colossal amount.

Well I was very disappointed this evening. First time back after your refit which does look good. However, being a fan of your fish and chips originally, not this time unfortunately. The cod was greasy and had way too much batter. The chips were old and didn't taste fresh at all. Not the chipwick quality I am used to. Very disappointed indeed 😞

One of the best Fish and Chip have had in years. We had Calamari as a starter and Fish an Chips. It was coated in a very light batter and could feel was fried in a fresh oil. Strongly recommend, although not local but definitely would drive extra miles if we want to have Fish and Chips. Very clean and lovely and helpful staff

Five of us enjoyed some excellent food, the fish and chips were very good. Not greasy, and freshly cooked so very appetising and a pleasure to eat. Portion sizes were generous. We were well looked after by the staff, so overall an excellent experience.

Been here many times and every time the service and food has been brilliant. When we've eaten at the restaurant they're be wonderful making room for my mums wheelchair. Staff are always friendly and polite. The best chippy in worthing.

Outstanding, great value for money. Considering The Original Chipwick is best known for there award winning fish and chips the friendly polite staff there burgers are top class to. I highly recommend them for the quality and taste, you can just tell the ingredients are fresh the preparation and presentation are second to none. Great food great restaurant throughly enjoyably.

Takeaway acquired. Had looked forward to this meal as recommended a few times by friends. Ordered a mixture of chips, fish, scampi, tartar sauce, and cheesy loaded chips. Service was slow, and when we got home, we were unfortunately missing the fish. Called and spoke to the team, who sorted out a replacement meal to be collected another day (we live a fair drive away and didn't notice the missing item until we got home, so unfortunately couldn't return) So great customer service by the staff. The food was good. I wouldn't go to say it's the best fish and chips we had, but maybe just a bad night we went on. Will definitely give the benefit of doubt and visit again.

This is what a Fish & Chip shop should be. Excellent fresh fish and chips, chips are crispy as good chips should be. Fish is offered battered and deep fried or grilled. Homemade coleslaw. This is all served by friendly knowledgeable staff who only serve to enhance the dining experience. Probably the best chips I have had in years as were the chicken nuggets. PS. Toilets were clean and serviceable. Highly recommended

Lovely fish & chips restaurant, friendly staff, and competitive prices. I had the regular cod and chips and a (smallish) pot of tea. For dessert I had the apple & blackberry crumble with custard. Every item was delicious and a good size. The room was well lit, clean with some booths and some regular tables. I was playing a gig in town and when I asked the guys at the venue for the best fish & chips in town they unanimously agreed. The gig was a total success and we've been re-booked back so I'll be coming back here in the Spring. Edit - we've now been back another three times and I visit this place every time!

Two of the three specials on the menu were not available when we visited early evening so we went for cod, which was really tasty in a light batter, and chips, made with proper Maris Piper potatoes. Well looked after by the team and a very enjoyable supper.

Chipwick is one of the VERY BEST fish & chip takeaways/restaurants you will find anywhere, and I mean ANYWHERE. We love going. The fried fish is consistently superb, as it was today. The batter has a lightness that is superb and the fish is always very fresh. I only wish they had an area in the restaurant that was dog friendly. They say they can’t because it’s an “open kitchen” but all fish & chips shops have open kitchens and yet I know several that accept dogs in the sit down area.

This is our favourite place to eat fish and chips ... it has such a lovely feel to it. It's a cross between a cafe and a restaurant so feels a little more special than just a caf It's always busy which is a good thing, the food is delicious, I always have scampi and it's perfect, licensed so love a glass of wine, the whitebait's good too and amazing onion rings The staff are lovely very attentive and we never miss popping in here when visiting family

I’ve always loved this place but the last few times I’ve visited the food has not been good and tonight’s was extra awful. Fish was super dry, sausage burnt and batter so dry and the chips just do not taste hot and fresh, even the curry sauce doesn’t taste like it used to.

Superb! 5 of us dropped in whilst training for a charity walk. All chose the cod burger - every element was delicious from the stacked burger to the best chips & the yummiest tartare sauce! Young staff were attentive & showed interest in what we were doing. Other food being served looked just as fresh & tasty. Would drive the 2 hours to Worthing just for Chipwicks! Would highly recommend.

Had the best fish and chip dinner here, proper chips - hand cut, not been frozen, what a delight to have real fresh chips as its so rare these days and makes a huge difference, we can totally get why they have an array of awards to their credit. Working away from home was looking on good old reliable TA for some inspiration and must say we wasn’t let down, the restaurant is a must visit if in Worthing. From start to finish the experience was fantastic, Great tasting food, fresh, well cooked, really nice friendly staff and very reasonably priced. Two very happy customers from a genuine reviewer, we never take notice of 1 random bad review as there are people who have no idea what good food is! Thanks Chipwick, if we are ever in Worthing again we will definitely be back

Been here for the second time recently after a lovely experience last year. The items are more pricey than most fish and chips shops, but this is very reasonable for the quality of food you are given. It feels very gourmet. The chips are perfectly cooked and in a good portion. The burgers there are amazing and extremely high quality- most burgers from chip/kebab shops are really dry and basic, but this is on par with high quality burger restaurants. I strongly recommend the Chipwick special. Staff are very efficient. Will return.

Having recently moved to Worthing, we explored where to go for the best Fish & Chips, Chipwick was recommended and we have now visited 3 times and loved the quality and freshness. Visit 28/07 and it was totally different, greasy, not crispy chips or batter but pale and appeared pappy, not up to the usual standard and now deters us visiting in the future. Was it a different fat or that they had someone less experienced doing the frying? Will never know. Will try again when we fancy fish & chips again..

Very poor food, fish batter was very pale in colour, chips were so dry and stale The chips tasted like they had been re heated Of course you don't realise this until you get them home. All this for £11.10 for reg cod and chips!! Disgusting

Great fish and chip shop! It was packed on a Saturday lunchtime despite the terrible weather! The cod was huge and crispy, and the curry sauce was lovely! Will be back.

Very friendly service in the takeaway section. Just got 3 portions of chips for myself and the boys after a swim. After hearing great things about the place I was very disappointed with the chips !!

Very very disappointed. Been many times over the years. The portions have got smaller as the price has got higher. Feel a bit ripped off. Even the children said there were not many chips. Shame as quality of food is good. Just not enough. 😕

We’ve had several takeaways here since we were first recommended a few years ago. They’ve all been superb. Deserves its reputation as the best chippy in Sussex. Expect to queue, which is a good endorsement as it’s worth the wait.

Update 2023: Clearly a change in management, as this place is now excellent. Chips are always great, and the fish is wonderful, with lovely crispy bater. Difficult to fault, other than the price, but not being a regular take-away fan, perhaps I'm out of touch! Highly recommended. ------ previous review ------- I'm not quite sure what has happened to The Original Chipwick, but I'd hazard a guess that they have had a change of owner. To us, the place feels like it is living on it's excellent reputation, but the quality has definitely gone downhill. Twice in a row now, the chips taste like they are old and reheated, and the fish has been terribly overcooked (which makes it all rubbery). Chipwicks was our go-to takeaway choice in the past, and we regarded it as the best fish and chips in Worthing. Easily. Now, however, this has changed, and to be honest, I'm not sure whether we'll go back again. A real shame. I note the reviews here are nearly all positive, and that would most definitely have been justified once upon a time. Now though? Hmm.. I think not. Perhaps we've just been unlucky. But that was what we said to ourselves after the first disappointment. Two weeks later, and we return to exactly the same low-quality, badly cooked food. Will we try again? Probably - in the hopes that we really were just unlucky. Twice. But four times? No way, Sad.

Pretty good food, would like to have eaten in but despite a number of tables being free and us just literally wanting to eat and go weren't able to. Good fish, chips could have been bigger cut and in portion size. For a takeaway more salt and vinegar needs to be applied. Decent, not great.

Probably the very very best fish an chips I've ever had; friendly smile on arrival that continued throughout the meal with all the staff; speedy service and a good atmosphere; beware! the portions are huge! good cup of coffee to end with; will go back; highly recommended

Well guys it's rare this happens but this place just took the top spot for me on Fish and Chips. Omg they were amazing and to top it off they even cooled a sausage fory dog to have lunch with us. Missed a meal out of our takeaway order, which I waited 15mins for despite ordering for collection at a specific time. Called for refund on the missing meal and told I’d have to come in (45 min round trip with today’s traffic), or they could put my name in ‘the book’ and have a free (not sure they’ve grasped that concept) cod another day. when we’ve only ever ordered from them once before and aren’t likely to again any time soon. I’m told the food we got was very nice, just a shame the customer service is so bad.

The food was well cooked but the size of the fish was very small and expensive for what it cost.

Had scallops with fries and salad. Scallops were flavourless. Tasted like i was eating cotton. Chips were fried on re-used oil (not fresh), chips were soft, not crispy. Waiter suggested to take off payment for my drink but still pay the full price for the dish. I feel like now i should have insisted on partial payment as it does not feel fair for me to pay for something that was awful.

When we visit Worthing this is how we end it sitting down having the best fish and Chips I have ever tasted,I travel the uk and it really is better than a anywhere including the famous Seashell in Lisson Grove London , Skipjacks queensbury nw London ,that one in Golders Green, Staff always lovely. Ok with wine etc you cant believe the bill but that is 2023 for you supplies gone through the roof.Lovely business wish them well.

We had this place recommended on the list of restaurants to visit while in Worthing. It is definitely worth the recommendation, possibly the best fish and chips I have had. The food was excellent and freshly cooked, and being a Yorkshire lad, they were proper Mushy peas! My wife had scampi which was also very good, the beer and wine similar. Plenty of choice on the menu. The staff were excellent and attentive but not overly so. All in all, highly recommended.

Excellent night celebrating a birthday party. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and we will be heading back soon. Food was good, excellent portion size, and packed full of flavour. We struggled to find somewhere to park, eventually found a spot just a 5 min walk from the restaurant. My only concern was the size of the toilets, with small children in tow, they are too small to accommodate an adult and child comfortably.
