My husband and I had a fantastic meal at Le Caveau whilst holidaying in Skipton. The setting of the old jail makes for a quirky atmosphere with fantastic architecture accentuated with soft lighting. I had the scallops with black pudding for starter followed by salmon in a mozarella cream sauce for main. The menu had a fantastic selection and staff were friendly and attentive. We will definitely be coming back for our next Skipton trip.

We were warmly welcomed and taken to our table. The service throughout was really good and efficient. The food was amazing. We both chose lamb rump for our main courses and it was cooked to perfection. Served pink along with a dish of interesting vegetables. We would have loved to eat there again but they were fully booked for the rest of the week which I guess says something about the standard of their food. If we are in the area again we will definitely back. (and we will double tip as we forgot on the night. Apologies for that)

What a find, one of those best kept secret type of places that really deserve shouting about!Great menu with daily specials, the king scallop with ‘proper’ black pudding was amazing and the beef bourgeon on horseradish mash was melt in the mouth sensational. The place has a unique and intimate feel as it was a basement prison hundreds of years ago. This makes for a fabulous all round experience, be prepared for great food, friendly service and a special evening. My advice…. Go to jail, Go directly to jail….ENJOY!!

This Chef really knows how to Cook the food is fantastic and also great value .The ambience is cosy and comfortable .What let it down slightly for us was the service.Got off to a bad start by being told us being 5 mins early for our table didn’t help !! After that it was all a bit rushed “ bish bash bosh “ front of house very brusque felt as if the sooner we ate and left the better , we were made to feel very uncomfortable like we were doing them a favour being there .They were obviously very tired , had enough and in need of a break that was very obvious but that’s the game you chose to be in I’m afraid and what could be your 100th night of service is still our special night out .Asked if they could set tables for their opening on tuesday next to us which we agreed to but you really don’t do that or start rattling wine bottles next to us stocktaking , this was still only 9.30 so all could have easily have been done after we left shortly after 10 .It was such a shame because everything else was spot on and we travelled from Bingley and Wilsden especially. They are closing later in the month for a couple of weeks so hopefully they will come back renewed , it’s such a nice restaurant with great food that it would be a shame to let the service ruin it all tired or not .

Just knew we'd made the right choice here when asked if I wanted chilled or room temperature ale. The theme continued with excellent unhurried efficient service of superbly cooked and presented food. The icing on the cake definitely the desserts. One of the best Creme Brulee's in years and a Mango and Passion Fruit Semi Freddo to die for. Thank you for a lovely evening.

What a lovely setting for a meal, an old jail house for sheep rustlers etc, some of the fittings still exist which added to the lovely feel. The service was excellent with the wife out front doing a sterling job and the hubby cooking serving some amazing food. We ate at The Angel on Monday and enjoyed this meal as much for a third of the price. Scallop and belly pork starter was wonderful, followed by lamb and Choc truffle. Every cause stunning, we also had a glass of wine with each course and the bill was under £100. Amazing, it should be in the Michelin guide.

Let’s start with the downside, the entrance is narrow and steep, but that's expected for a medieval prison. Inside its lovely with a unique ambience, excellent service and exceptional food, in another location they could charge far more and would have a long waiting list. If I lived closer this would be my regular.

If your staying in Skipton please put this restaurant on your must visit list. It is one of the best meals we have ever had. A lovely, quaint fairy lit cellar, from outside you wouldn't expect it. The food is devine, the service immpecalble, we both had lamb served with black pudding, seeded mustard mash and vegetables, wow it was to die for. The puddings just finished off a perfect night. 10 out of 10 from us. Thanks again for a wonderful night.

Le Caveau doesn't have the most attractive of entrances, as it's down some iron steps on the corner of the High Street and the sign looked like something from the 80s - but once you're inside it's a little gem. The cellar is small but not cramped, and it's nicely decorated with fairy lights to give it a cosy feel. The staff were all very friendly and attentive, even advising us on a break in the rain to get back to our car (it turned stormy while we were inside, with thunder rumbling overhead!)The menu was quite small, but none of us struggled to find something we wanted. We were provided with some lovely tomato and herb bread rolls to begin, which was nice as my soup starter didn't come with its own bread. The arancini I had for main was absolutely delicious. The potatoes and vegetables came separately for us all to share, and they were lovely too. The white chocolate and cranberry creme brulee dessert was very tasty. We couldn't fault the food at all - it all came out quickly and was served nice and hot. They even had Campari to drink, which my husband bet my father-in-law they wouldn't have! So he was very pleased. He requested it with crushed ice and they were happy to oblige.I would definitely recommend Le Caveau if you're in Skipton, and I can't wait to go back!

Celebrating my wife’s birthday our family stayed at the wonderful Woolly Sheep inn and knowing Le Caveau was nearby and had good reviews on trip advisor I had pre booked a table for 4. Firstly all the covid rules were adhered to , the restaurant had its plan and staff members followed it and so did we , so as we all got seated and took off our masks and settled down we noticed how nice the restaurant is, I would say it has a very cosy feel to it , somewhere you could take someone for an intimate meal. The place was full ( Saturday night) but it didn’t feel crowded and we had plenty of space. The 2 ladies serving worked extremely hard to ensure everyone was attended to and very pleasant and friendly too. We ordered starters , mains , desserts , wine etc all of which we devoured with gusto, I personally had the pate starter, pork and black pudding main ( amazing) and panna cotta for dessert (divine). This restaurant is quality, they are a small team but they all work perfectly together to deliver a sumptuous meal ( must compliment the chef he clearly knows his craft) . If I’m staying in skipton again I won’t hesitate to use this restaurant again. I hope and pray that all the staff keep their jobs after this lock down because it would be a crime for this restaurant to close.

An evening trip, to celebrate visit by family and a birthday. Had wanted to try for ages and this provided the excuse, having seen Proprietor Mark regularly buying interesting fresh fish from the excellent George Wilson in the market. No disappointment! A delightfully small and friendly restaurant, with a commendably short but interesting and original menu. Chef Mark is very much in evidence, circulating and chatting in between cooking creatively original dishes that both look and taste fabulous. Excellent, friendly service. Fairly priced. Our daughter, who lives in the South East and works in London said it was the best meal out she had eaten this year!

OMG, first and certainly not the last visit to this wonderful find. We visit Skipton once a year and I had noticed the restaurant previously but hadn’t thought it looked that promising from the outside but booked on the strength of the feedback. So glad I did, we were warmly welcomed in the cosy bar then taken through to dine.I wasn’t overly hungry so just had lamb stew with mash which was on the specials board, calling it lamb stew doesn’t do it justice, it was incredibly tasty. Hubby had a starter of salmon which he said was the best salmon he had ever tasted. He then had the pork on the specials board which he also enjoyed. I then had the cheesecake which again was very tasty. There was a good choice on the normal menu along with additional specials available, all sounded a bit more interesting than your average fayre. This is a very small restaurant with few tables so recommend booking. We had a chat to the chef afterward who also seemed lovely, he certainly knows his stuff. Will definitely be coming back here again, now our favourite place to dine in Skipton.

Me and my partner had a fabulous meal here. Tucked away down the stairs your wondering what you may find. But isn't that the case always when your digging for diamonds. We certainly found one here. Situated in an old rustlers prison it has kept its original features (including a waist shackle) however it is refurbished with a carpet now and not a stone floor with unspeakable dirt lol.The atmosphere and food where spot on for the price in fact I would have paid a lot more for the experience. 3 courses of the most fantastic food for less than £30. The chef was eager to tell us about his produce and where he got it from (even giving us a leaflet for the shop). The front of house lady was really accommodating and friendly. You got the impression nothing was too much bother. All in all a must to have evening meal while in Skipton. Please don't miss it :)

Visited here for the first time with friends for my birthday. I had been set a fairly high expectation and Mark and the team did not disappoint. The date happened top coincide with Burns night so haggis was on the menu - in various guises. We had a variety of dishes between us and they were all delightfully cooked, presented and served. The little attention to details by the staff, including preparing the table with our chosen wine (uncorked and breathing), water etc just added to the experience. The menu is fixed price and the charge is extremely reasonable for the value/experience you receive. The wine menu is consistent with the overall quality of the restaurant and of equally good value. In summary, couldn't fault it. Will be back soon hopefully. Keep it up guys.

Some parts of the meal were delicious - the goat's cheese in the starter and the forced rhubarb and horseradish sauce were truly excellent. The pork had very little flavour. The service is loud - you sit and without much ado you get a menu shoved at you and in very loud tones asked if you are going to have wine. "How was that for you?" is routinely asked with no suggestion that an answer is wanted. The decor is varied and does nothing to enhance the naturally good looking cellar. Disappointed. PS don't think pea shoot garnish is necessary on every dish (or preferably any)

Two lunch courses each and one drink each shouldn’t have been expensive but when you are charged £3.00 for a can (yes a ring pull can put on our table!) of Old Jamaica ginger beer the bill is bound to be high. I had no idea how much the drink cost until I looked at the drinks menu while my husband was paying the bill. I was shocked to say the least. Tesco charge only 30p. for Old Jamaica ginger beer and that’s their retail price. We enjoyed our food but on principle I won’t be going back to this restaurant because I don’t like being ripped off. We are regular visitors to this restaurant and are always delighted. Mark is an inspirational chef. We went for our wedding anniversary on 10th January and had an amzing meal, beautiful and very reasonably priced wines and the most fantastic service. We have also taken our daughter who is vegan here and Mark could not have made more effort to give her a superb menu. It is the best restaurant in Skipton.

My family and I were looking for a good restaurant for Christmas Eve during our stay in Skipton and Le Caveau did not disappoint! Located right on the High Street, the friendly and efficient staff, charming decor and top notch food all made for a fantastic evening. It's also great value for money with 3 courses plus a complimentary welcome drink for only £30. The lamb was particularly good and most of the ingredients are sourced locally. The restaurant is relatively small so best to book in advance. We would definitely visit again next time we are in Skipton.

I visited as one of a social group of 28 and absolutely loved the whole experience. Despite expecting 20 and 28 actually attending they couldn't have been more accommodating. Nothing was to much trouble, the chef and owner, and all the staff were fabulous. The food was absolutely delicious and plentiful with more vegetables being produced when requested - even though they were already feeding 8 more than expected! I was so impressed that the delay in getting the main course to the table was minimal. It was a Christmas get together but also happened to be my birthday and on realising this I was presented with the most perfect piece of homemade brownie with a candle in - what a lovely touch and completely unprompted

We've visited here on numerous occasions over the past few years and have also been treated to excellent quality food at good prices! How Mark & the team haven't yet got a Michelin Star is baffling as it has everything to do so! If you're looking for an extra special place to eat, which is usually reserved for City Center's or Countryside Hotels, then this is definitely the place! It's fantastic!!

On our recent wedding anniversary, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed an evening meal at Le Caveau. If you like white linen tablecloths, with cosy candlelight glinting off the sparkling glass- and silver-ware, service that is efficient without being starchy and food that manages to be comforting while still “singing” with fresh, local and seasonal produce and the chef’s great skills, look no further.

A huge thank you to the team at Le Caveau for giving us such a special evening for a member of our families 21st birthday celebrations - the food was excellent - the service was also very good and the restaurant has a lovely ambience and atmosphere - we ate from a set menu with around six choices for starters and mains and there was something on there that we all liked - the food tasted really fresh and was presented lovely and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it! we would highly recommend this to anyone wanting a lovely meal on a special occasion

It's not often that you find a restaurant that is literally underground! The low vaulted ceilings are part of Skipton's wonderful historical tapestry and it's worthy of a visit just to experience it's cosy ambience. More importantly, the food is fantastic and the service is personal and unhurried.

Lovely food eaten in a restaurant with a very pleasant ambience. All the meals in our party were enjoyed and the service was very friendly. Small is beautiful; there is a pleasant feeling of intimacy at the table and although the menu selection is not vast, it seems that this is to the advantage of them preparing and presenting each meal to a very high standard. I would not hesitate to recommend this place, we will certainly be going again. It seems to be very popular in the evenings, so I think that booking would be a good idea, if not a necessity, to avoid being turned away.

What a find.. We booked a table for our wedding anniversary on Friday afternoon. Such a lovely atmosphere and surroundings. The owners were so accommodating and friendly. The food was as good as we have had anywhere. Menu brilliant, service great. They even made a happy anniversary plate with chocolates. Will definitely be going back. We don't normally do reviews but this place is an exception. Thanks sooo much..

My partner and I came to Skipton last month and I called and booked the last table at le Caveau. I am so glad I did. Everything from the moment we walked in was superb. The lovely lady welcomed us to a warm and cosy bar area where we had a drink and looked at the menu. We had a delicious appetiser and ordered our meals. We each had a three course meal, which we both said was some of the best food we’ve had for a very long time, and the service was impeccable. Very friendly and attentive. The price was also very reasonable for such a lovely evening.

We visited with friends who are regulars and received a warm welcome from the host and the chef. The choice was just enough and there were extras on the specials board. I had the beef which was so tender and delicious. No one left a thing on their plates. The service was excellent and friendly. I think it was excellent value at 26 a head. The setting is quaint and cost but despite being in a basement felt airily, light and fresh. Would definitely return.

This is a favourite of ours when we have a holiday in Yorkshire. Last time we visited was 6 years ago ! This is a small, quirky and unpretentious restaurant, it has a real French feel to it. Price range is between £21/ £26 depending whether you opt for 2 or 3 courses, very much like in a French restaurant in France. The introduction of the board with its Daily Specials is a good idea as the standard menu is more meat based and we tend to order fish in restaurants. We chose the hake on a bed of ratatouille - fish was beautiful, all cooked to perfection. Our table was close to the kitchen, it is rather small and just amazing to see only one person producing such great dishes.

Enjoyed a meal at le caveau tonight with my mum. We booked for 7pm, we arrived a bit early- they don’t open until 7 but they let us in to shelter from the wind and rain! The service was great, I was driving so I ordered a Diet Coke but the staff were able to offer some more exciting soft drinks- alcohol free rum and cokes or g&t;! It was a set menu, 2 courses for around £21 or 3 courses for £26. There were about five options for starter and main on the menu, and then more choice on the specials board. I had goats cheese, then the lamb. Mum had the salmon then the beef. We finished with coffees. Everything from the food to the service was excellent, we will definitely return.

Not being local to Skipton I booked a table for two on the strength of the description on the restaurants web site, I have to say the restaurant exceeded our expectations, Quirky and cosy surrounding with a nice atmosphere, the owners and staff and friendly and attentive, they also catered for my guests Gluten intolerance without prior notice.

I last had lunch at Le Caveau in Skipton 2 years ago. We went to Skipton today and I booked a lunch table there yesterday. We were warmly greeted and our order quickly taken. Plenty of choice - either a la carte, 2/3 courses for £21/25 or a more restrictive lunchtime menu with just 3 choices for each course (but only £12.95 for 2 courses). We chose the latter and were not disappointed, in fact my wife said that her lambs liver was the best she'd ever had. Highly recommended!!
