Our son's 40th birthday in Covid times. What to do when eating outdoors and only two households??? Booked in advance a gazebo which had a heater. Safe bet if cold or even rainy. It proved a showery day but it didn't spoil the day when we walked from Grassington to Hebden via the river. The staff had put out a welcoming balloon and in addition to the consistent excellent quality of the food, the birthday cake was brought out by the staff singing "Happy Birthday". Great service. Thank you.

What a beautiful place. Such a charming village, a lovely tea room with amazing cakes and pots of tea to die for!We arrived within 15 minutes of closing time, having galloped the last mile of our walk. This was not a problem, we weren't rushed, there was still plenty of choice. In fact someone came even later and was welcomed just as nicely.I'd drive up there just to eat there!

lovely conversion from school to a very nice cafe. Went based on reviews and did not disappoint. Had a most tasty ciabatta of tuna melt and my wife had a very good bacon an avocado bap. Served with the best coffee i have had in ages. Love the outside eating area which includes kiosks with great views of the hills. Well worth visiting

By JOVE’S BEARD it’s SO SO SO SO LOVELY to be back at the Old Schoolhouse in Hebden today. What. A. Treat! We sat outside, in glorious sunshine admiring all the new Covid secure dining pods. The food was delicious (as ever), the guinea pigs, chickens and Peter the Pygmy goat were on form and.... well.... I can’t think of a nicer more splendid spot to dine. Thank you!!! (:

Lovely homecooked food. Yummy sausage sandwiches and quiche with salad. Catered well for gluten and dairy intolerance. In an idyllic setting with beautiful views of the valley and situated in a quite pleasant dales village. Added fun and interest for children and animal lovers alike with the chickens meandering and pecking around the outdoor picnic benches in good weather.

After a long walk the sight of the village school cafe was a relief. Then to enjoy a delicious vegan festive sandwich was even more of a delight. I really enjoyed it. The dairy free orange carrot and walnut cake finished a wonderful meal. I struggled to finish our walk after that but it was worth it. Don't miss out. Rhis place is a real treat.

We dropped in on a soggy Saturday it was very busy , but they found us a table outside in one of the huts . Very cosy and lit with fairy lights . Lovely view of the garden with the sparrows visiting the door step. The doors can be shut if it’s cold but we found it cosy . Our table and seats were disinfected before we sat down and hand sanitiser was in the table .The staff were friendly and very efficient . The food was homemade and cooked to perfection , fabulous chips ! I had homemade Quiche with a lovely salad . My husband had Ham eggs and chips . Equally impressed !Great pot of tea with extra hot water ,( not everywhere does a good pot of tea now !)to die for hot chocolate . We live locally but don’t go enough . Would highly recommend on all fronts . The cake looked amazing today but didn’t have room . Should have gone in and got a takeaway !

We have just returned from enjoying an amazing afternoon tea at the Old Tea Room. We had a stunning view from the window, excellent service and a delicious vegetarian afternoon tea. We’ll also be having it for tea as we brought some home as we couldn’t finish! We regularly visit this quirky little cafe on walks around the area but this treat was well worth booking in advance. The selection of treats, beautifully presented with pretty old china and cutlery was great value for money. We even bought 4 Gisela Graham cups to bring home- cheaper than on Amazon!

Our second visit, after having a great experience in 2019, headed there with great expectations. It was a very hot day, it was very busy and seemed rather disorganised, could just have been the customers in at that time but everyone just seemed to be milling around trying to get served. We managed to get an inside table rather close to the counter with the drinks, takeaway chill cabinet directly behind my chair. We had bacon buns which were very nice and my husband added chips also good. Two tables were not cleared before new customers had come in sat down and ordered their food not a problem to us but some people are concerned about such things

This tea room looks lovely - the old school building and gardens are delightful and very well kept. Unusually for the area, there is virtually nothing on offer for those who need to avoid gluten - and also the menu has one of those catch-all disclaimers that's designed to discourage anyone with any food issues from eating there. I find these universal "we can't guarantee that ANY food is free of ANY allergens" warnings quite bemusing - any professional caterer would know that if you take reasonable precautions (eg. wiping down surfaces, cleaning utensils between uses - in other words, the sort of things you should be doing as a matter of course, to earn a good hygiene rating) - there is vanishingly little chance of cross-contamination of allergens in a well-organised kitchen. The Coeliac Society offers lots of information (and training) to those establishments who would like to welcome coeliacs, rather than warn them off. The non-coeliac in our pairing enjoyed their slice of cake, and the coffees were good, although the service was really slow. They had nice little sheds in the garden that were bookable in advance - a great idea for staying socially distanced in the outdoors, but dry and cosy, in the unpredictable Dales weather.

I guess I was a little sceptical at first sight of the lunch menu for The Old School Tea Room. Here we were in a village in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, and I for one was expecting something good, but basically, well… old school? So the quantity of items with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern leanings and ingredients, not to mention vegan options, fashionably super-healthy salads, and tarts with assemblies of fillings that at first sight you’d not expect within the same pastry enclosure, came as a bit of a surprise. Ploughman’s Lunch? Nowhere to be found. Instead, how about, say, the platter of houmous, vegetables crudités, falafels, wholemeal pitta, and couscous? Actually, none of us had that, but without exception what we did have was plentiful, tasty, and unmistakeably made with love and skill on the premises. Scepticism was banished in particular by the signature “Tart of the Day”, ingredients including sun-dried tomatoes and olives among other things, of which such a large slice arrived and with such a copious fresh salad and mound of delicious chips (chunky, well-seasoned and well-done, cut from small potatoes with the skins left on), that there was no room left to sample the array of fabulous-looking home-made cakes. Clearly another visit is called for.

We had a lovely family lunch at the Old School Tearoom today. It was busy so I was glad that I booked! We had tart of the day with chips and salad, veggie chilli with avacado, cheese and sour cream and ham, egg and chips. All of these dishes were absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. We finished off with Victoria sponge and a Raspberry Macaroon. This place comes highly recommended by us and is a lovely location for a lazy lunch. In the summer we walk to Hebden from Burnsall along the river which is a very pretty walk with a suspension bridge and stepping stones. You can also sit outside the cafe and there’s a park next door for little ones.

As always the food was amazing , but as a couple we were shown to a table and asked if we would share, which wasn't a problem. as the table was close to the one behind it and lady was already eating i took the seat that was already at the end as i could not have it into the available gap ..i am am 6 foot tall and had a winter coat on as the table was next to the door. The chair i was at was in front of the toilet door a very busy toilet , the door banged into me or i was asked to stand up every time someone went in. When the lady moved from the table next to me i moved opposite my partner, unfortunately i was then asked to pull my chair in as they wanted to seat a new customer behind me, the gap as not wide enough fro 2 dinners, i suggest i just leave and the waiter stormed off and we heard a tray been thrown. Other dinners commented to me that the request was unreasonable and that i dad already been very patient with the toilet door. The waiter asked we if i was okay and i explained how i felt and i was given a free drink for my next visit.

We walked to the Old School Tea Room from Grassington and, following rave reviews from friends, placed our order for 8 drinks, one slice of cake and 2 toasted teacakes. The cafe was busy, but eventually some of our drinks were served, the cake arrived eventually but as for the teacakes they seemed to have disappeared into oblivion. We were a not happy as customers who had arrived way after us were being served with their bacon sandwiches etc. . After about 30 minutes we asked about our food and the waitress did infer that she had seen them in the kitchen, but after another 10 minutes we decided enough was enough and went to ask for our money back. Then teacakes miraculously appeared - obviously the same teacakes that had been sitting in the kitchen - toasted - for the last thirty minutes. They had been re-toasted and served to us. They were inedible!! The manageress returned our money and was apologetic, but no way should that food have been served. What was wrong with toasting fresh 'cakes?. We were obviously just unlucky, but certainly will not return, nor will we enthuse about the good service or the wonderful food.

I can honestly say it was the loveliest afternoon tea ... little homemade sandwiches, mini pulled pork sausage roll, savouries and of course a scone with jam and clotted cream and 4 different sweet desserts (mini meringue being one ... all delicious) and a little lemon posset too. It was nicely presented on a stand, served with lashings of tea and lovingly prepared and served by friendly staff. This place is family run and we’ve visited on many occasions for lunch and have enjoyed their food on every occasion. All the food (sandwiches, salads, toasties, homemade soup, scones and gorgeous desserts. They do a raspberry sundae which is literally to die for and they also do a chocolate one which is equally lovely. All in all well worth the hour’s drive from our home. It’s always a pleasure to see the Family who run this little gem of a cafe ... and there is seating outside too which is great for hot days. Can’t wait to come back!

We visited the Tea Rooms as a family quite late on a Sunday 4pm ish hoping we could all get fed and we weren't disappointed! The kids had bangers and mash and wolfed it down, highchairs were provided which was a relief. Adults had the Old school platter with the tart of the day (bacon and leek, delicious!), Ham, egg and chips and Steak and Ale pie. The old school platter was a really generous portion and very filling. Lovely cheeses and attention to detail - it's clear the owners really care about what they're serving. Ham egg and chips was proper quality ham, proper runny/dippy egg with chunky chips to dip into the egg - exactly like ham, egg and chips should be but so often other places get wrong - not here though, spot on! Pie was very filling and great gravy and taste and the mushy peas were great. Even though we turned up requesting a large food order late in the day the staff were welcoming and couldn't do enough for us, endless requests for kids drinks etc, extra chutneys, nothing was too much trouble. The owners are clearly visible and heavily involved in the day to day running which makes this place have that special touch of owner motivation and care with a lovely Dales and local touch. We will definitely be visiting again and family members we told about it and queueing up to join us, couldn't recommend enough.

Am a regular here, stopped by the other day and had an Earl Grey and lemon cake. It was great, loved it! Weather was miserable but the view is always amazing, on the way here as well as once you're there.

Fantastic food and fantastic service, my children have multiple allergies and it’s so nice to be able to go to a family friendly cafe that not only takes allergens seriously but also offers an amazing range of foods that suit all different diets. My only complaint would be that there are so many delicious choices of cake that it’s pretty much impossible to just choose one. The kids also love the animals outside in the garden and the access to a little play area next door. I have been many times now, the vintage afternoon tea is not to be missed, delicious range of options that come with it. So all in all delicious food, very friendly staff and a great family atmosphere with stunning views. Would definitely recommend.

We absolutely love this place and are regular visitors whenever we ate up this way. There are some beautiful walks from here down an old track over a pedestrian suspension bridge to burnsall which is well worth doing before or after a delicious spot of lunch. I would recommend the ham egg and salad. The side salad is lovely and fresh.

We love this place and our most recent visit was the best yet. Staff are lovely and went out of their way for us. We are all veggie and their veggie/vegan food is superb. This time we had delicious veggie breakfast. Huge range of cakes - fab vegan cake. Nice crafts in the gift shop and playground next door goes down well with our kids. Outside seating area and cute goats too.

This is a fabulous cafe in Hebden. We ate outside in the sun in their pretty garden but it was great to hear we could take our dog inside if we’d needed to. We had breakfast (and cake!) along with coffee and it was all very good. Everyone was very friendly and the cafe and facilities were spotlessly clean.

Wherever we go for a walk in the Dales we contrive to go via Hebden, near Grassington, so we can call in at the Old School Tea Room. Carnivores, herbivores, kids, all are catered for. Food, atmosphere, prices - all are a treat!.

Popped in for a quick coffee and slice of cake. Place was busy even on a cloudy day but we found a seat easy enough. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Coffee was nice but the homemade looking cakes and scones were amazing. Food on other tables looked very good too and smelled delicious. Lovely little stop off.

We were looking for somewhere to have a late lunch after a walk nearby and drove past this so pulled in quickly and walked back to it. Lovely setting in a quaint village. We sat outside. Busy inside. Lots of seating outside too. Home made food and lovely choice on menu. Staff really friendly and helpful. I had soup which was very tasty and hubby had sandwiches which he said were good. We shared a scone after. The best scone I’ve had in a long time!! Lots of choice for drinks. Would like to go back and do the menu justice by having a proper meal as I bet they’re fab - certainly looked it! Good value for money.

We visit The Old School Tea Room 3-4 times per year. Today was excellent as always. A lovely warm vibrant friendly atmosphere. Local kids were having what seemed to be an amazing afternoon tea birthday party whilst a small team of cyclists and a few groups of elderly ladies all seemed to be enjoying themselves without any apparently disturbing the other. Cakes, coffee and especially hot chocolate were excellent as usual. Will be returning!

After a walk we visited the tearoom for lunch. We were amazed at the number of vegan options on the menu - my daughter had the beanburger and I had the curry. Both were really tasty. The setting is lovely and we managed to find a table outside which was perfect. Staff are friendly and the selection of cakes is great too.
