Having visited twice for two family birthday celebrations I wanted to just thank the staff for there hospitality and friendliness along with the excellent meals we all had and enjoyed. Excellent service nice the landlord takes time for a chat also. Portion sizes really generous so can’t wait to try Sunday roasts

How lucky are we to have this pub on the doorstep. We came for Sunday lunch and even though the pub was really busy we were seated on time and the service was really good. When the food came out, it was cooked perfectly and piping hot. The beef just melted in your mouth. The veg was exactly to my liking, and the cauliflower cheese was divine, not forgetting the awesome homemade gravy. We have already booked our next visit. Best roast dinner in Berkshire.

Decided to book and try the food offer that is currently advertised. We both had the pie, mash and vegetables (just the one veg, green beans!) with gravy. It was lovely. However ... the drinks seemed extortionate - had a small lemonade and a small soda water and got charged £6.45, so beware. A few people were eating in there, but not many. Girl behind the bar looked totally bored and was scanning her phone as no customers to serve - I had to chase up our (extortionate) drinks. Paid the landlord when we left - no pleasantries. Shame, as food was good, but for drinks prices, service and atmosphere, will think again.

Unfortunately had the worst experience here! Was away for our anniversary and this experience partly ruined our evening. The reception when walking in was hostile, no smile, no greeting. Then the food - WOW! What was served up was burnt (3x chicken wings and 3x garlic bread) when we asked about it the kitchen had no more to replace what can only be described as a pile of charcoal. So they offered onion rings and chips in replacement - 1 onion ring was again burnt and the chips were also horrible. We had nacho’s with the above sharer - when asked where the sour cream was the last came back and said we’d run out of that also! Absolute shambles to be honest. We was offered 20% off the food which we reluctantly paid.

We've been going to the Castle Inn for nearly 20 years now. Through thick and thin, we've always loved the place and much of that comes down to the staff. Their latest addition, Katie is absolutely fab - she always greats us with a warm friendly welcome and seems to find the perfect balance between working hard / keeping on top of everything whilst being warm, friendly and welcoming. Keep up the great work Katie - the customers love you 👍

Although this restaurant may have more than one microwave in their kitchen they certainly dish up a plate "very" full of good quality food and their frozen desserts are a delight. At £18 a head for a Sunday lunch with dessert, drinks (including a brandy/port) and coffees, you cannot go wrong. Fish and chips I was looking forward to nice chunky crispy battered fish....it was out of a freezer box and greyish colour fish inside and I honestly would say Iceland. It was ok tasting but wanted good pub grub at a good price. Sausage and chips...deep fried and again just supermarket cheap quality sausages. This is a very good pub that basically gets almost everything right. It's not trying to be anything other than a pub. The food is good pub grub and the prices are very sensible indeed for both food and drink (food £5-10 per main, wine £12-£15/bottle, etc.) which is really refreshing to see in West Berkshire. Six well-kept ales. Dog- and child-friendly but you don't feel you're in a children's playground either (quite right, too). Watch out for the Old Bill and their scamera van just down the road...

A choice of roast meat served with roast potatoes and yorkshire pudding supplemented by a bowl of four or five vegetables and the piece de resistance, a separate serving of mashed turnip. The people next to us at first fed their dog under the table , then the dog sat up between them and ate off their plate. Absolutely disgusting, also as it had been raining the wet dog smell was overwhelming , the whole thing made me feel quite ill. The female staff seemed quite friendly , but the landlord didn't acknowledge us at all when we arrived, just stared at us. There is a wide range of food available from bar snacks to full menu with an excellent and varied specials board. We have yet to have anything like a bad meal there and food is always excellent and great value for money. We are always warmly greeted by the staff and we were remembered after our first visit(mind you, Jazzi, my Saluki does stand out from your average dog), I would highly recommend a visit and being about 10 minutes off the M4 it's always the option to stop at to break any journey.

Visited recently for the first time and was impressed, no long queues after placing your order like in Costa etc, all staff are young and very helpful & pleasant. This is how a cafe should be run, Yesterday visited the Reading Cafe, same level of service received, we had to amend our order after sitting down, it was no problem for them at all and we were made to feel again nothing is too much trouble. Got home and looked into the Company, they focus on employing the right people & training them. Well done for doing this, your doing the right thing from the top down to the shop floor, If there’s a Boswells near me wherever I am that’s where I will be spending my money. 🙏😁

Excellent service from a very enthusiastic young man. Unfortunately several dishes were not up to the usual standard. The pork rib eye and beef feather were very good and presented well. The tandoori prawns on Naan bread were a poor substitute for the old garlic prawns and more reminiscent of a TV dinner. The chicken schnitzel presentation was poor. It came without the coronation mayonnaise and there could be more imagination with the salad which was just little gem cut up. Flavour, however, was good. The hot drink with small pudding was a winner as usual and delicious.

Have been a few times and it’s been nice but today it seems the owner was around for the first time that I’ve seen him. His attitude was something I can’t explain, rude to say the least! Comes across very intimidating and only seems to favour his regulars… after speaking to other regulars they all said he’s not been around for a while and that he likes to push his weight around when he’s on site. Definitely will not be going again. Shame really….. typical Irish

Worst hotel experience I have ever had. After checking in and dropping our bags in our room we returned to the property after-hours and followed the instructions to enter via back of the building. We only had a key for the room but the back door had been locked and we were unable to enter. After ringing the doorbell non stop, phoning and banging on the door for 1 hour in the freezing cold we gave up and paid for a taxi to sleep on a friend’s sofa. Returned in the morning (after paying for a second taxi) to staff who were not apologetic or empathic to our awful experience. They said we would get a refund but it has been 3 weeks and they are avoiding our calls and we are having to resolve this via booking.com. I feel the hotel should have given us a full refund AND paid for our taxis! Avoid avoid avoid.
