You cannot find a better place for cakes, pastries, and quiches. Silvana makes everything fresh each day and provides service with a welcoming smile. A small but fantastic independent cafe or take away with a loyal local following. In the summer you can also sit in the lush garden. Definitely one of our favourites in Southsea.

The second time I have been, and the quality is every bit as high as I remember! The only reason I do not go more often is that it closes on days I tend to be in Southsea. The pastries here are firm and delicious - baked to perfection! The pastel de nata also look tempting, and will be my next request when I drop by. The layout is pleasant, with a charming garden area to the rear. The welcome is very charming, and the coffee superb. All in all a winning formula!

My first visit today with my wife. Now lovely to a small independent coffee shop with lots of homemade cakes & snacks. A very warm welcome, and lovely fresh coffee. Small inside, but cosy and very comfortable . Out back is a small pretty garden,a great place to enjoy a fine cigar. And even when it rains, they have some dry outside seating. Look forward to visiting again soon. Today I enjoyed coffee cake & cream with a strong black coffee.

Didn't know this cafe existed...my friend just googled cafes in Portsmouth. So glad we found it. Lovely cakes, lovely tea/coffee and such a friendly lady. The lady said she was closing at 3pm but welcomed more customers. One couple had quiches and salad, which looked amazing...we've promised ourselves a return visit.

Just love this little cafe for freshly made quiches and cakes and lavazza coffees. Portuguese custard tarts are just the best. An outdoor area is available on sunny days and you might be lucky to see the resident blackbirds. Silvana has a loyal following because once you’ve tasted her cakes, you can’t stay away.

One of the rare businesses that does not need to heavily advertise :-). The homemade quiche is the best I have had in the area and the pastries and cakes are beautiful! The service is friendly and professional and it is has a different feel to anywhere else in Southsea. Came in out of the cold wind and rain, to be sadly disappointed with this place. The ambience was very nice, warm and calm, but unfortunately we were disappointed with both the food and drink. Sadly the Belgium hot chocolate really did taste like instant hot chocolate from the supermarket, and luke warm too. The pear tart was very plain and the lemon drizzle cake was dry and almost developing a crust around the edge. The Danish pastry was very nice and fresh, but at £14 for two hot chocolates and three cakes, two not so good! I was quite unimpressed. The place does however have a lot of very good reviews, so I will give it another try in a couple of months.

Situated right on the Albert Rd, Casa is a real gem of a place for pastries, cakes, savoury snacks, and coffee. As a result it can get a little crowded at peak times but if you time it right you can avoid the bustle of the day and enjoy some excellent food in a calm spot.

Beautiful understated cafe with a huge appeal to all coffee, cake and patisserie lovers. Our visit was on a Saturday morning after running the Southsea park run. What Quentin and his wife have achieved in seven years is testament to their quiet determination to bring their passion to the table in style. There aren't many local places that bake in-house with as wide a repertoire of good fresh food at real world prices. It's a cafe with a homely European restaurant feel to it. Go sit in the garden, it's a little gem. From the street you wouldn't imagine the serenity of it, but a pleasant hour was spent in the sun drinking coffee and scoffing Portuguese custard cakes before we headed back out to Albert Road, last bastion of independent traders in Sarffsee. Recommended.

I met a friend at Castro for a mid-week catch up and as it was noon we decided to have lunch instead of the usual coffee and cake. The cafe is perhaps better known for its delicious sweet treats but while the lunch menu isn’t extensive what they have is very well done. We had two types of veggie quiche both highly recommended. A generous slice comes with some potato and coleslaw and was just right. The cafe is small but has a lovely feel to it. Squeeze in a pastel de nata if you can or take one away, you won’t regret it.

On a damp December day it hardly looked inviting. On entering, I heard the lively Charlie Parker, thankfully not too loud. I was trying to picture New York caked in snow and early Ella Fitzgerald numbers...The famous Ibrahim Ferrer and Omara Portuondo and the legendary Buena Vista Social Club sprang to mind, whom I had the honour of meeting decades ago,but this was no steaming hot Havana cafe accompanied by The Sierra Maestra banging out Dundunbanza, luckily, the latte was, (which after a disappointing one up the road, incidentally not made by the usual staff member),left me..well...muy bueno. The music was now smooth and matched my latte. I thought I better opt for a Portuguese nata although all the cakes looked..to quote an Apprentice winner 'Ridiculously Rich'. The nata was packed full of custard? Which simply proved the quality was far superior than many poor cafe chains that sell things they sadly call natas. The guy should be on Bake Off. The garden out the back would be great in the summer with say Oscar Peterson or Rubén Gonzalez, Cubas' best pianist turned down low. The jazz music made the whole experience very relaxed and as I left Stan Getz was going on about some chica desde Ipanema....hmmmmmm....it doesn't get cooler than that. Paolo Conte's Tournee two would complement this establishment perfectly.

One of my favourite escape places in Portsmouth, lovely to visit both in good or bad weather. Cosy and warm inside, on a sunny day - fantastic secret garden at the back!Visited on multiple occasions for a hot drink and pastries. Lovely hot drinks of a good value, stunning pastries (if not the best out of those I tried in Portsmouth!). Service - always friendly and so welcoming!

I popped in to Casa De Castro at 96a Albert Road (PO5 2SN) for a coffee and 'bun' and had the most delicious custard tart I have ever had. Their cakes are sublime - thoroughly recommended! All their cakes are made by the Brazilian owner on the premises. An experience not to be missed.

Run by a delightful Frenchman and his Brazilian wife - a pastry cook. Good coffee and excellent pastries.

We went here after reading fab trip advisor reviews. The food was amazing and very reasonably priced. The cakes are to die for. Especially the custard tart! Quiches and toasted sandwiches were delicious and portion size brilliant. We definitely recommend a visit to Casa de Castro and will be back again with more friends.

My mum and I regularly go here for a cheeky little Portuguese tart - a must try!! It's an incredibly charming little place with a beautiful French/Portuguese feel. Reasonably priced with a lovely variety of sweet pastries and cakes & savoury bites. The staff are adorable and the little seating area outside is so cute! I would just be aware of the fact that it is pretty small inside so may be difficult for pram/wheelchair access. However, I'm sure the staff would do their upmost to accommodate for this.

Picturesque little cafe with a beautiful garden out the back. The staff are friendly. The coffee is top notch and the home made cakes are out of this world. I love this place and often go for a coffee and a pastel de nata (the best I've found in England!) I definitely recommend this place for a coffee and a snack.

Is a little coffe shop with portuguese and french character, very pleasent. They don't serve meal per say, but whatever you eat there is good.Staff (owners) are very nice and likeable. The only drawback I could find was the lack of fresh squeezed juices.I am going back for sure

Second oldest pub in Portsmouth and it is the highlight of the place. Breakfast was good and plentiful. The room is small with wonky electricity and plumbing, but I guess one must expect that in a 300 year old building. The wifi works well. Staff are businesslike. I wouldnt stay here again, but I'm glad I had the experience.

Never been met by people in a small business so annoyed to receive custom, tutted and huffed as I entered the shop, yes it was 14:45 and the shop closed at 15:00 but that’s no excuse. I ordered 2 rolls, once the filling was in the roll I stated which salad I would like in each and was told there was no salad left?? No discount offered and to make matters worse when opening the rolls outside the shop the fillings were incorrect. Another customer entered the shop behind me the staff members both rolled their eyes and gave him a dirty look, if you don’t want to be selling products until you close maybe worth advising a cut off time for rolls and food to be made. The filling in the rolls was a good portion and tasted good but wasn’t what I ordered. I won’t be returning
