Calcutta Port Pan Asian Restaurant in Dover

Superb evening at Calcutta Port for my wife and I 19th wedding anniversary. Food was delicious, service was brilliant and the kids loved the waiters. And very reasonably priced I thought for the 4 of us. Thank you to everyone there this evening for making our dining experience superb!

I can reccomend this place highly for authentic Indian cuisine. All cooked fresh an the staff were lovely. Great food! So much better than Cinnamon Island by far.

I ordered from here because I thought they must be extra special because of the high prices. It was supposed to have been a rare Mother’s Day treat paid for by my hard working daughter. £3.95 for a peshwari naan?? £3.95 for a bland pilau rice? £5.95 for 2 x tiny meat samosas with a weird looking mint chutney that was giving Asda cheap vinegary mint sauce vibes. The chicken bhuna had a very runny consistency which tasted like a shop bought sauce with almost raw onions thrown in with small chicken pieces which lacked any depth of flavour. (£10.95!!) The aloo Gobi had rock hard cauliflower and was lacking in flavour although the pieces of potato were ok. Considering it all cost £30 it was very disappointing! The delivery person lacked any personality and was grumpy, acting like I had just inconvenienced her even though I had included a tip! I was truly expecting a higher standard of food considering the high price tag! Honestly I have been eating curry for 40 years so I should know what I am talking about!! I give up! I’ll be cooking it myself in future to avoid disappointment. Avoid if you enjoy a decent curry!

I would recommend this place if you are looking for authentic, delicious indian food. Staff was very good and service was also quick. We completely enjoyed our dinner.

Great team in house and kitchen. Been using this place for only a few months and never had a bad meal. Happy to tailor your dish to your liking and always happy to recommend dishes. Reasonably priced and the free popadoms a d drinks are always appreciated. Keep up the good work guys!!

I didn't eat in, does anyone ever these days? It's always empty...sad because the food I took away was amazing! Chicken Dhansak with saag aloo. The portions are bug, enough for 2 persons. I have half fresh and the other half the next day. I also got a garlic naan but they're half the size they used to be, so no naan on day 2! 😔

Excellent Indian restaurant. Lamb dish had great flavour and meat portion was good. All aspects had very good flavours. Staff seem nice.

We had an excellent experience! The staff was nice and hospitable, which made us feel very welcome. Above all, the food was truly delicious! We would absolutely recommend.

Been here with my family for my birthday two years running and faultless food and service. Pity just more people weren't there to create an atmosphere. £144 for five people including drinks this year excellent value.

Had a lovely dinner at Calcutta port, the staff were friendly. The food was tasty, the only downfall was the fizzy drinks as they tasted a bit flat. We shared poppadoms, chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, pilau rice and onion bhaji. It all tasted fresh and was served hot.

Wow. Staying in Dover for work and called in for tea. The restaurant was service was excellent from the moment we walked in. The food was amazing. The chicken was tender and tasty and it was the best tikka masala I’ve ever had. I just wish I didn’t live 266 miles away or I would be back in a heartbeat.

First return visit since Covid to our favourite restaurant for final Indian meal before we return to France. Still tip-top in all respects. Couple of pints of Abbot in Wetherspoons followed by curry in Calcutta Port is a great way to round off a week in the UK.... Highly recommended.... 😊👍

I went with my husband and friends on 17th October 2023. I am following swaminarayan religion. I don’t eat onion and garlic. I talked to chef. He cooked for me veg biryani. It was really delicious. He met us personally about we like food or not. We loved it. Thank you so much.

just bought “sea food grill” for collection. got it home and there’s one cube of fish, 1 prawn and a few other chewy things but mainly burnt vegetables. £16!!!!! so upset

I am very disappointed with the service, food quality and quantity and the attitude of the staff. I haven't had this much worst food ever from UK. We can understand the culture difference and things, but they made such a third rated food even without any taste of the flavour or aroma. My friends and family is totally disappointed with their food and service. When we asked for the receipt, the staff bought the bill and put it on the corner of the table. They don't even know anything about customer service. I have paid 50GBP for the food for nothing even the price of the food is much higher compared to some other restaurants nearby. We couldn't Even eat all of them and we left the leftovers. Half of the food is not even cooked well to eat. I never recommend this place ever in my life to anyone. Worst thing happened to me in 2023.

Great dining experience, friendly staff and lovely food. The restaurant was very clean and the presentation of the food was great; we’d definitely come back.

Service was very slow and whilst the food was nice it was very expensive for the portion size. The waiting staff were hit and miss. When we had the guy with the tats he was very charming and funny but the owner guy was clearly very stressed perhaps due to them being busy which it seems they were not prepared for even though it was a Saturday night

Lovely dining experience and fantastic service, despite it being a very busy evening. Called up beforehand with queries about the food and were served by the same friendly staff, who gave recommendations and answered all of our questions. Special thanks to Anik, who made us feel completely at home. The biryani and butter naan were delicious.

Possibly the worst Indian I’ve ever had, Tikka masala sauce was super runny, saag paneer tasted of absolutely nothing, mushroom bahjee was pretty much just fried mushroom with no spices and possibly the smallest naan bread I’ve ever seen. First and last time user, extremely disappointed. Not too sure how legit these positive reviews are tbh.

Do not order take away from this place. Chips were double cooked and burnt. Nann bread was full of holes and all the coconut had fallen out. Disgusting service at the cost.

Avoid avoid avoid. Prompt delivery. Half food was cold, missing an item that finally turned up cold and burnt (confusing I know). Would not recommend.

Just had a lovely meal here. Poppadoms and dips for starters. Mains, chicken tikka masala and lamb nihari, rice and garlic naans. There was plenty of food, made fresh and really filling. The service was great and Anik was especially helpful and accomodating. Would highly recommend.

Absolutely great restaurant, drove 7 hours back to Kent and this was the first place I called into. The food is simply divine and beautifully presented if eating in. The staff are absolutely fantastic. Looking forward to next visit

Short break in Kent. First meal out for a long time. Pre-pandemic my wife and I would go for a curry monthly. Have been in many curry houses around the country. Our meal there was lovely. Chicken shashlik and Lamb madras. Excellent quality of food and fantastic flavours. Rates among our best ever Indian meals. Overheard some other very complementary comments at other tables. Very highly recommended.

Visited the Calcutta Port as the venue to get back out for a friend's meal. We have been used to visiting other Indian Restaurants in Dover, whilst hearing good things about the Calcutta Port. One of our group had regularly taken out and with other venues closed it was tonight's choice. It was a great choice. The food at the Calcutta Port is beautifully presented and really very tasty. When ordering the red Goan curry I wonder how spicy it might be. I needn't have worried as it was just perfect for my tastes , both extremely tasty and spiced perfectly for my tastes. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their dishes which included vegetarian, Thai and fish curries. Having discovered the venue we will certainly revisit. Many thanks Calcutta Port for a great venue, meal and friendly greeting for our first gathering back out

Recently visited Dover with family & friends. Found this restaurant on google and looking at the reviews decided to give it a visit. Extremely disappointed with the food & service. Food was no where near to Indian cuisine, especially the curries which were too sweet with flavour of any spices. Service was very slow, it took almost 2:45hrs to finish our dinner. Got a feeling that we were not welcomed in the restaurant. On top of this we were charged for extra food which was never ordered. There is no rating below 1 star else would have liked to rate this restaurant below 1 star. Forgot to mention that when I went to use the washroom saw the kitchen which was a mess and the toilet is next to the kitchen. Mr Shahid, We had visited in 29th May Saturday at 6:45pm.

Recently visited Dover with family & friends. Extremely disappointed with the food & service. The starters/mains were too sweet with no flavour of spices. Moreover, the service was very slow, it took more than 2.5 hours to finish the dinner. Things were so slow that a family friend left within 10 mins of sitting down. Not expected from restaurant with great review score on Google 😏

We were welcomed and given time to source menu. One of our party was a child and they very kindly offered her a choice of non menu items. Our meal was superb, service excellent. Extremely clean and pleasant.As we had too much we had left overs to take with us, which was equally good the next day.Definitely visit again and recommend.

The best curry I've ever eaten. Had the Malaysian fish curry. Was superb. The service was fantastic and the food very good price. Will visit again. Highly recommended.

Indians are very particular when it comes to sub continental cuisine. I can state without hesitation that Calcutta Port is exceptional . The food is authentic and of the highest standard, it is the closest to home sub continental cooking that I have experienced .

Super service. Great food. Glad we went. Kids, husband and I loved our food. I can't have gluten as I am coeliac, there was a clearly labelled menu and massive choice of gf food for me. Great place.

The takeaway we ordered for the first time from Calcutta Port last night was superb. The food flavourful, fresh and authentic tasting. One of the best I’ve tasted in a while.

Decent place to have indian food

Okay so delivery was on time and food temperature average, that’s why they get the one star. Order incorrect, called the restaurant and told item was on its way, still waiting. Sat down to a bland boring curry, no taste , no spice, chewy chicken, absolutely not for me thankfully I had ant bottle of to console my disappointment.

I had forgotten how delicious and flavourful a good Indian meal could be. The lamb chop and chicken in my mixed starter were a perfect introduction to the wonderfully succulent red Goan lamb and Goan seafood curry main courses we shared. The chefs toned down the heat a bit as we requested, allowing the more subtle spices to really come through. My tastebuds were delighted. I am looking forward to visiting again. I think I may want to eat my way through the whole menu. The quality of the food was matched with great service delivered with a smile. Well done to all who work there!

I very rarely write a review but tonights meal warrants a mention. This is the first meal ordered from this restaurant so used the previous reviews to make my choice of an Indian takeaway. I can truly say this was the best Indian takeaway I have eaten for some time. Clean hot fast service. The portion size including the meat content was very generous and was all cooked beautifully. Well done guys, I will return soon !!!

Really yum and good value. The people are kind and friendly I love that they don't use much plastic, curry comes in aluminium cases so it stays piping hot and you don't have plastic guilt.

Ordered via Just Eat, very easy. Order arrived early, hot and freshly cooked. Ordered a Lamb and Chicken Dhansak with the normal rice, sides and Nan. Absolutely superb! We ordered a takeaway via Just Eat (first time we had used it) whilst staying at a Premier Inn Hotel at East Dover during lockdown in order to attend a family funeral. The food was delivered within 45 minutes and was excellent. We had ordered a meal for two and there was more than enough for us. The bonus which we didn't realise was as it was a Tuesday night we got a 20% discount so the meals were under £19. Great Service, Great Food. I was so pleased that I rang the restaurant to congratulate them.

We have had a take away from here a few times now, every time the food is amazing, it’s always delivered on time to, highly recommended.

Everything was just really really tasty! The lamb was excellent and the naan was perfect to mop up the delicious sauce.

new nothing about this restaurant as was visiting the town for a few days. just looked your average indian restaurant. how wrong the food was some of the best i have eaten and i have travelled the country and have had some many indian meals. service was good and there were new dishes available which i had never seen before. well recommended. everything was fresh and the spicing 5 star. the presentation of the food was good and the whole place was clean. definitely a place to visit when in dover or nearby

Tried for a birthday treat for my daughter and was not disappointed staff so friendly and the food was amazing and well presented will definitely be going again.

I would like to share my experience about the food and staff. I been to Calcutta port to have dinner on my wife birthday. The food was amazing staff was friendly and the service was fabulous. I would recommend the restaurant and will be visiting soon. What surprise me that the staff had bought the birthday cake as I did not expected. Once again thanks my wife did have a great day.

Don't walk past this restaurant and not go in! Very welcoming staff, covid secure, sanitisation station by door for hands. Paper menus. Staff take contact details. Poppadoms and drinks arrived quickly. Amazing onion chutney. We had lamb dopiaza, chicken tikka masala and mushroom rice with garlic naan. The lamb melted in the mouth, dopiaza was so nice. Chicken tikka was just as good. The food was great value for money too. Couldn't fault the food or the service in any way. Mentioned we had come from Chatham as it was my birthday. Was asked to wait before we left. 3 amazing gentlemen came to the table with a lovely ice cream dessert with a candle and sang happy birthday. That was so amazing. Can't thank staff enough, made my birthday. Next time we're in Dover we WILL be back.

Had a delivery a few weeks ago which was ok to be honest and would order another I said, had a collection last week ,,2 starters were missing,,vindaloo was so mild and spillage in takeaway bag,,wasn't impressed,,when I called about missing dishes was passed on to manager who said was communication issue, nuff said

We ordered from here for the 3rd time (for a big birthday bash with friends). What an absolute delight! We switched to Calcutta Port after a few disappointing efforts from our old place, and we are definitely staying now that we've found it!The food was EXCEPTIONAL - full of flavour, healthy sized portions, a fantastic range on the menu and they're always willing to make little adjustments here and there if you like it a certain way.Delivery took a while (25min over the promised time) but it was worth the wait!

This was our first time trying this restaurant, wish has a pan-Asian menu, which focuses on Indian food but has a number of Thai and Chinese favourites too. There are also some lesser known curries on the menu, and I plumped for the Nehari Lamb, which despite being described as medium hot was served as medium at my request - and was perfectly spiced. I had the house mixed starter - also very good with lamb chump chop, chicken tikka, onion bhaji and lamb samosa. The lamb cutlet was a little too bony for my liking, but very tasty. Main portion sizes weren't huge, but were just right - a reflection of the relatively cheap price that the main courses cost - certainly cheaper than a number of local competitors. My wife had a prawn puri and chicken tikka masala - and enjoyed both dishes. The ambience was relaxed - staff were very friendly, engaged and relaxed - which lead to a very pleasant atmosphere. Toilets were also clean and well decorated. We also asked about the possibility of having meals that weren't on the menu - and were happy to hear that was possible. We will certainly visit again, and might now use this as our main Indian takeaway provider too.

Simply put, this is the best curries in Kent, fresh spices, none of the premixed business. Love it, go once a week now

Lovely little Indian restaurant. It’ll be nice not having to travel out of Dover now. Warm and welcoming. Couldn’t fault them at all. Myself and some friends went Tuesday night. The food was amazing !

Myself and friends tryed this place something different. The service was fabulous staff where very welcoming and friendly. the food was amazing and very well presented. We all enjoyed are meals and we will definitely be back.
