We had a lovely peaceful meal as we were the only customers for most of the time we were there. The food was very tasty but my lamb was tough and chewy. The bill was not itemised and a 10% service charge is added automatically. There were no napkins on our table or brought with the food. The decor and furnishings were somewhat shabby.

What a find -- Fabulous food! We had not made plans for dinner during our Saturday overnight stop in Dover, however we arrived without reservation at Calcutta Port and were warmly welcomed. The restaurant has a simple Asian style behind an unimposing facade, hiding the dining delights inside. Everyone of our party thoroughly enjoyed all the courses served to us, each one distinctive and individually prepared from the very impressive range of Asian styles offered. All was freshly served with clean crockery and cutlery, and generous portions at that. Wholehearted recommendation from me and would be sure to return should I be in the area again.

Excellent food, loads of flavour and good spice levels, lovely rice and bread. We've been away and this was exactly the curry we needed on our return to the UK! The reviews were helpful as it was empty in the restaurant when we got there. But we weren't put off and there was pleasant background music and the atmosphere picked up as a few other tables came in.

I first called into the Calcutta Port on my one night stay in Dover. The restaurant was very quiet so I thought it was a risk but I needn't have ben concerned. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent at a reasonable price. I ordered a Jalfrezi which was very tasty and although hot (as it should be) it was not too hot to overcome the taste with crispy onions and green peppers. Because I enjoyed my first visit so much I called in again on my return from Europe. The food was equally good but this time there were a lot more people in the restaurant creating a very nice atmosphere

Excellent Indian cuisine. I recommend the chicken korma or chicken tika masala if you like mild spices. I recommend that you accompany it with garlic nan. If you like spicy food, it will be chicken madras.

We have been here on two occasions and find the restaurant interior a little bit tired and faded and nearly always empty but to be fair, we visited early in the week - 3 stars average. They do a very busy takeaway trade and the door is always opening and closing so this will disturb the diners but they have to make a living. I have never seen a menu like this before. it has Indian, probably Bangladeshi, Thai Malaysian and Chinese etc I will give the food a 4 star rating because the standard is above average and the chefs are good. The Madras and the daal are really good. The first time we went, we had a lamb Karahi and chicken madras and it was good but slightly over salted . The second time we went, we had a lamb madras which was nice and again slightly over salted but the Balti too much sugar and salt, why on earth would they do that as you can always add salt and it did not resemble an authentic Balti in any way and I think they used a paste. I know the English like sweet things but that was over-sweet. The chutney tray is not very exciting there are no onions and everything is too sweet. I think this restaurant needs a makeover with the interior but overall food is pretty good but it is not cheap. In my opinion it is 10 to 20% overpriced. The owners and staff are polite. We will come back again if we are in Dover

Superb evening at Calcutta Port for my wife and I 19th wedding anniversary. Food was delicious, service was brilliant and the kids loved the waiters. And very reasonably priced I thought for the 4 of us. Thank you to everyone there this evening for making our dining experience superb!

I can reccomend this place highly for authentic Indian cuisine. All cooked fresh an the staff were lovely. Great food! So much better than Cinnamon Island by far.

I ordered from here because I thought they must be extra special because of the high prices. It was supposed to have been a rare Mother’s Day treat paid for by my hard working daughter. £3.95 for a peshwari naan?? £3.95 for a bland pilau rice? £5.95 for 2 x tiny meat samosas with a weird looking mint chutney that was giving Asda cheap vinegary mint sauce vibes. The chicken bhuna had a very runny consistency which tasted like a shop bought sauce with almost raw onions thrown in with small chicken pieces which lacked any depth of flavour. (£10.95!!) The aloo Gobi had rock hard cauliflower and was lacking in flavour although the pieces of potato were ok. Considering it all cost £30 it was very disappointing! The delivery person lacked any personality and was grumpy, acting like I had just inconvenienced her even though I had included a tip! I was truly expecting a higher standard of food considering the high price tag! Honestly I have been eating curry for 40 years so I should know what I am talking about!! I give up! I’ll be cooking it myself in future to avoid disappointment. Avoid if you enjoy a decent curry!

Had a great meal at Calcutta port today. My brother had an off menu Phall which he loved. My madras was great too. No problems good ambiences.

The wife and I went for a dinner date here and were pleasantly impressed. The lamb bhuna’s were very nice and tasty, also as I don’t really like tomatoes that much they tweaked the dish slightly for a more gravy tasting dish. The nasi goreng rice I chose was ok however the chicken was a little dry, starter was onion bhajis which I liked. The red chutney a little ketchupy for me but on the whole a good experience. Good decor, tasty food, friendly staff.

I would recommend this place if you are looking for authentic, delicious indian food. Staff was very good and service was also quick. We completely enjoyed our dinner.

Great team in house and kitchen. Been using this place for only a few months and never had a bad meal. Happy to tailor your dish to your liking and always happy to recommend dishes. Reasonably priced and the free popadoms a d drinks are always appreciated. Keep up the good work guys!!

I didn't eat in, does anyone ever these days? It's always empty...sad because the food I took away was amazing! Chicken Dhansak with saag aloo. The portions are bug, enough for 2 persons. I have half fresh and the other half the next day. I also got a garlic naan but they're half the size they used to be, so no naan on day 2! 😔

Had a lovely dinner at Calcutta port, the staff were friendly. The food was tasty, the only downfall was the fizzy drinks as they tasted a bit flat. We shared poppadoms, chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, pilau rice and onion bhaji. It all tasted fresh and was served hot.

Wow. Staying in Dover for work and called in for tea. The restaurant was service was excellent from the moment we walked in. The food was amazing. The chicken was tender and tasty and it was the best tikka masala I’ve ever had. I just wish I didn’t live 266 miles away or I would be back in a heartbeat.

First return visit since Covid to our favourite restaurant for final Indian meal before we return to France. Still tip-top in all respects. Couple of pints of Abbot in Wetherspoons followed by curry in Calcutta Port is a great way to round off a week in the UK.... Highly recommended.... 😊👍

I went with my husband and friends on 17th October 2023. I am following swaminarayan religion. I don’t eat onion and garlic. I talked to chef. He cooked for me veg biryani. It was really delicious. He met us personally about we like food or not. We loved it. Thank you so much.

Celebrated our 30 year wedding anniversary with a takeaway. I had king prawn Dhansak he had chicken madras and various side dishes - flavours were incredible. I would definitely recommend for an unforgettable meal.

just bought “sea food grill” for collection. got it home and there’s one cube of fish, 1 prawn and a few other chewy things but mainly burnt vegetables. £16!!!!! so upset

I am very disappointed with the service, food quality and quantity and the attitude of the staff. I haven't had this much worst food ever from UK. We can understand the culture difference and things, but they made such a third rated food even without any taste of the flavour or aroma. My friends and family is totally disappointed with their food and service. When we asked for the receipt, the staff bought the bill and put it on the corner of the table. They don't even know anything about customer service. I have paid 50GBP for the food for nothing even the price of the food is much higher compared to some other restaurants nearby. We couldn't Even eat all of them and we left the leftovers. Half of the food is not even cooked well to eat. I never recommend this place ever in my life to anyone. Worst thing happened to me in 2023.

Slecht! Ik had weg moeten gaan op het moment dat ik een grote kakkerlak in het toilet zag drijven. Ik heb het gemeld aan de ober, hij ging kijken en kwam vertellen dat het zo warm was geweest dat ze een raam in de wc hadden open gezet en dat daar de kakkerlak naar binnen was gekomen. Ook vertelde hij dat ze alles doen om ongedierte te weten. Honger en niet weten waar we anders snel iets te eten konden vinden zijn we gebleven en wilden de over geloven dat hij de waarheid sprak. Ondanks de honger, kon ik niet meer eten, bang voor slecht hygiëne in de keuken. Er waren geen andere gasten in het restaurant , 7 pm. We 3 x iemand wie kwam afhalen. Helaas werd mijn zoon direct bij aankomst bij ons hotel ziek, diarree. Je weet nooit zeker waar dat vandaan komt maar hij had in de ochtend enkel een stuk toast gegeten.

First and last , ordered delivery, chicken tikka masala and mushroom rice ,nann and portion meat samosa, chicken was dry and the tikka sauce was so sweet I had to throw away , the rice was greasy. Went there as it was our homeland namesake and we were not disappointed . Flavour full and delicious food , lovely owner and staff . It was my husband's birthday and they gave us drinks on the house . Definitely visit if in Dover .

Brilliant. Can honestly say the best food I've had from any Indian restaurant. The dishes have a real depth of flavour, and the dishes we have were really distinctive recipes, that's hard to find nowadays. The Chicken Muglai is a great example. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Will only be going here in future :)

food was very nice indeed. but when it came to asking for the bill we were astonished to find extras added that we did not order. so be very careful. shame really as left a sour taste after a really good evening and splendid meal.

Food was hot when it arrived. Chicken tikka was delicious, chakka dhal was a little runny. I enjoyed my meal, the coconut rice was very nice and fluffy. Crispy beef was OK.

Food was simply outstanding however our bill was £12 higher than it should have been. Questioned it and it was soon sorted. So be careful everyone.

Super meal for 7 friends, eat in at high Street Dover. All dishes served were of excellent quality and having real flavour. Highly recommended resturant. Compliments to chef Bodroll. Look forward to eating here again soon. To note we all had a great meal.

We went this week to the Calcutta for the first time and had a startling experience. The food was out of this world so well presented and with attentive staff. The starter of lamb was as good as we have ever had with excellent sauce...

Service was very slow and whilst the food was nice it was very expensive for the portion size. The waiting staff were hit and miss. When we had the guy with the tats he was very charming and funny but the owner guy was clearly very stressed perhaps due to them being busy which it seems they were not prepared for even though it was a Saturday night

Lovely dining experience and fantastic service, despite it being a very busy evening. Called up beforehand with queries about the food and were served by the same friendly staff, who gave recommendations and answered all of our questions. Special thanks to Anik, who made us feel completely at home. The biryani and butter naan were delicious.

Possibly the worst Indian I’ve ever had, Tikka masala sauce was super runny, saag paneer tasted of absolutely nothing, mushroom bahjee was pretty much just fried mushroom with no spices and possibly the smallest naan bread I’ve ever seen. First and last time user, extremely disappointed. Not too sure how legit these positive reviews are tbh.

Just had a lovely meal here. Poppadoms and dips for starters. Mains, chicken tikka masala and lamb nihari, rice and garlic naans. There was plenty of food, made fresh and really filling. The service was great and Anik was especially helpful and accomodating. Would highly recommend.

Short break in Kent. First meal out for a long time. Pre-pandemic my wife and I would go for a curry monthly. Have been in many curry houses around the country. Our meal there was lovely. Chicken shashlik and Lamb madras. Excellent quality of food and fantastic flavours. Rates among our best ever Indian meals. Overheard some other very complementary comments at other tables. Very highly recommended.
