Called in here today for lunch. Very good choice on menu. Generous portions served. Staff courteous and service good considering it was quite busy. Prices very reasonable.

Advertised as a vegetarian restaurant but all that was available was a jacket potato or a vegetarian breakfast which my friend had. It smelt greasy and was served with fried bread that made me feel sick because of the smell of it. I was expecting a full vegetarian menu like a pre-Christmas dinner as it was so near to Christmas. Very disappointing. Stuck with coffee and cake in the end that tasted okay. Very difficult to get into as I had to go up the street and turn on a narrow path so not wheelchair friendly. Hythe is not wheelchair friendly in general as although there is a sealed off pedestrian area, there are high pavements on each side, so I couldn't get into any of the shops.

Had lunch in here over the weekend with my partner and two teenage sons. Was overcharged by over £6.00 for food that was very disappointing and expensive for what it was in the first place. Won't be going back.

We called in for a late lunch because soup was advertised outside. The waitress was very friendly and promptly came to take our order. On ordering we were told no soup or jacket potatoes were available. We opted for a chicken and bacon sandwich, a Brie and bacon panini, a portion of chips, a banana milkshake and a cappuccino. The drinks arrived quickly. However the cappuccino was very watery and not pleasant to drink and was left. The food arrived a little afterwards. The sandwich and chips were fine. The panini filling consisted of an average amount of Brie and one rasher of bacon but tasted okay. When it came to settling the bill I queried the bill which wasn’t the total we had calculated from the prices on the blackboard next to us. I was told I was charged extra for the rasher of bacon because I had two fillings. The waitress did not state the extra charge at point of ordering and it was not stated on the blackboard either.I feel the food was very over priced and wish we had left before dining.

We decided to visit the cafe after having a walk along the front and canal. Simple menu displayed on the blackboard with a drinks menu on the table. My wife chose a jacket potato only to be told they had just sold the last one, a bit disappointed as it was only 13:30. Food order taken, drinks promptly served a little wait for food but freshly made and good value for money. Friendly staff.

A family run restaurant serving great food at an affordable price! There are many tea rooms in Hythe and for us this was the best. Had a lovely cream tea with home made scones, clotted cream and strawberry jam for under £5 !! There is also a garden at the back. We looked at the prices of mains etc which were equally affordable. We'll be back!!

Been here a few times always feel relaxed and friendly staff. Gets busy on Saturday as do all in Hythe mainly day trippers and tourists not locals like me. Prices have gone up so not budget prices but always assured of quality cooked food. Coffee and cake is a favourite with me and a good fry up on Saturday if I visit. Its also got a good range of goods for sale mostly second hand but mint condition like arts and crafts stuff. Not as big a menu as previously but good choices as I see they stop cooking at 3pm now. Hours are9.30-4pmish used to be 9.30-5pm

Sad to say we have ate here a few times and found it pleasant however 4 if us came today looking for a table and while we know it was a Saturday and appreciate it being busy but the lady owner was rude when saying she had no tables even though there was an empty table in the corner... she was walking away while talking and waving her hands ...Can only guess they don’t like peaks and struggle to manage table space when busy.Sorry to say we won’t be retuning due to the attitude... if she had spoken to us rather than from across the floor with a compassionate, pen attitude then wouldn’t of had the issue as we could of maybe thought of placing the buggy else where

My wife and I along with our daughter and three grandchildren stopped here for lunch after taking the RHDR from Dungeness. As we entered a smiling young waitress enquired if we would like a table for six, and as a party were just leaving she said she would prepare the table for us. As the people vacated an older man (who I subsequently found out was the owner) cleared the table so we could sit down. Our orders were taken and I was so impressed that my young grandchilden were spoken to directly and their orders taken. The food was very nice, the staff friendly and the bill reasonable, I took the opportunity to sign a petition to stop a Starbucks coming to the Town.A lovely independent restaurant and one to be visited again when we next travel to Hythe from Dungeness on the RHDR.

Delicious vegetable soup and excellent toasties. Nice friendly atmosphere, the owner took the time to talk to us even though there were a lot of customers. Used the loo, which wasn't in the slightest bit dirty (see previous review), in fact the whole place was cosy and welcoming. Will most definitely visit again as we fancy the afternoon tea. Warm and pleasant, cosy atmosphere, well thought out menus, owner exceptionally helpful. Afternoon tea of sandwich, scone, jam, double cream , tea and cake was a steal at seven pounds. Soup and toasted sandwich was fresh and excellent flavor. Prices in general are competitive. I can find nothing but praise for this traditional cafe in the center of town. If you want a pretentious patisserie or coffee shop that has lost the ability to use English to describe its product, this place is not for you. I hope this establishment stays part of Hythe for many years to come.

This cafe has had its day. They need to concentrate on being either a antique/bric a brac shop or a cafe.Very expensive in comparison to local competition. Pity because the Brooks cafe has some heritage in the town but I think it will soon be a cafe only remembered in old photos of the high street.

Met friends in Hythe, and as there was access for a wheelchair we choose Brooks. Owner helped us rearrange table to accommodate said chair. Coffee was good, as was service. Would hardly call it a charity shop cum café, more a quirky café which is preferable to the bland over priced offerings of the likes of Costa. My wife actually bought a glass bowl that was for sale. So double bubble for the owner. We chose to return later in our holiday and again found no reason to complain.

Looking for somewhere to indulge in a coffee and slice of cake, should have been warn off by looking in the window. It appeared from the outside to be a charity shop - full of random tatt displayed randomly around the cafe. Going inside to look into the cake display my eye was attracted to the coffee walnut cake. My favourite, so the decision was made to order. Guy who served us was nice and friendly took our order. I guessed was family business husband and wife working together from conversations I overheard around me. There was a younger waitress also serving. Astonished at what I saw the younger waitress do... Walking to the rear of the building within my direct eye shot she blew her nose - turning her back politely away from customers to do so. Shortly afterwards wiping her hands on the same tissue before carrying on her work without washing her hands. Thankfully the guy working there plated up or cakes and prepared the hot drinks before serving. Great coffee but cake was on they dry side. Settled my bill at the counter. This giving me a look at the chaos they were working in. Washing up bowl overflowing with dirty utensils, crockery etc. younger waitress tipping left over beverages on top of the washing up. Stacked on the shelves highly stained jugs and numerous plastic containers and lids. Presuming these were used to store left over food for another sitting. Finally a visit to the ladies before leaving to find a toilet in such an awful filthy state that I refused to use. Seriously off putting, what could be a great establishment with better hygiene, cleanliness and tidiness. Will not visit again.

Considering the very wide menu I do wonder if they can provide all that's offered. Staff friendly enough. Food quick. However it was all rather stodgy. The homemade veg soup clearly was frozen veg and packet. The baguette half hot the tuna mix very cold. The side salad as usual in these places is frankly rubbish has no dressing and if you look around is always left. It lacks charm and was all rather odd. Preferred the previous venue. Would only return if nothing else was on offer.

Breakfast arrived my fried eggs crispy and overdone, husband's scrambled eggs on toast stone cold. My first impression was that it was a bit like a greasy spoon, but clean. I only wanted a cup of tea, but thought I'd treat myself to a fruit scone as it was the weekend. My tea arrived in a pot which contained three tea bags, along with this came additional hot water and milk. Then my fruit scone arrived, it was massive, I mean seriously massive, I had to spread the butter provided very thinly to make it cover the sides after I cut it in two, this process was aided by the butter being served at room temperature. My son would also recommend their raspberry milkshake and chocolate cake. As far as I could tell everyone else appeared to be enjoying their food as much as I was, everything appeared to be home made as too. I short, not the most upmarket venue or prices, but the food certainly is.
