Have visited this restaurant several times in the last couple of years and it never disappoints, tonight was THE best ever, fresh and home cooked and very friendly and pleasant service, definitely going again soon!

Chicken pakora 😂😂😂😂 should say soft chicken nuggets, Wrong food delivered, chicken tuff as old boots, flavour 👎🏻

Best Dhansak in town! Sometimes takeaway order not always perfect but quickly put right.

As usual great service with a lovely clean and fresh feel with new layout of white linen cloth on the tables and mirrored lit background decor simply adds to the overall absence and as usual great tasting food and a good selection of drinks with very polite and attentative service. Great value for money, and my guests are amazed when they try the lovely selection of different curries available. A surprise finish and good end to the evening were the free Baileys drink and Brandy with Orange chocolate pieces to finish. A great night out for special occasions. Good to shake hands with everyone, including the chef on departure to say thank you for it all.

On being welcomed to the British Raj by both Ifti and Shab I was seated and made to feel very comfortable and valued as a customer even before I looked at the menu. The customer service and quality of food are absolutely fantastic at the British Raj. I've not enjoyed a Chicken Chat Puri and Chicken Tikka pathia with a Rice as much as I enjoyed the meal here ! The chefs have truly perfected the spices and flavours to create amazing food here. Both Ifti and Shab were genuine friendly and very customer focused. This is what a true established local business should be like without hesitation. I would highly recommend Anyone visit the British Raj for a sit down meal as you will not regret it my visit here was so good I will definitely become a regular customer as I support business like this and the lasting impressions all the staff here left me and the quality of food as well. Thank you to Ifti and Shab and the chefs in the kitchen for making a stranger like me feel so welcome.

We ordered a take away and it was awful. Half of my butter chicken sauce was in the bottom of the bag and covered everything. The potatoes were cold. The chicken was tough and the poppadom *that we didn't order was smashed and stale and inedible. Have had food from here before and no problem but this has put me off ordering again. Wouldn't recommend delivery

For over £30.00 for the food it was totally underwhelming. The chicken tikka main was mostly onion tikka main. The chicken tikka starter should have been renamed ‘hint of chicken tikka starter’, and the sag paneer worked out to be a spoonful each. coupled with the late delivery, food not being anywhere near hot, I’d say never again. Hot n Herbs, 100 times better!

Amazing as always and the waiting staff were exceptional tonight, both Ash and Ifty were both attentive and professional in start to finish. As for the meal, amazing, fresh and flavoursome

Visited in Sunday night. We seem to be lucky in the fact that all of the Indian restaurants in Sittingbourne are all good, apart from one around the corner from the British Raj. We were served by Ash who is a credit to this establishment, always smiling and happy and a credit to the establishment. Prices have gone up slightly but you can tell that the restaurant uses fresh quality products. Whether dealing with the takeaway drivers or Shabs the owner or Ash that is always smiling you always feel like they are happy for your custom. Once again a very enjoyable meal and always nice to catch up with the staff in the restaurant rather than eating in.

Worst ever bengal spice is better then this Delivery takes too long and when call the restaurant they were very rude Even though portion was very less and taste 😞

Had a Christmas dinner with a difference this year,had a wonderful meal here Christmas day, fantastic food,great service, will definitely do it again next year. Thanks to all the staff for making our Christmas meal memorable.

Arrived into the restaurant on a very, very wet early evening. We were greeted by a young Man who couldn't have done any better than he did. He took our umbrellas, and coats and made us welcome. The service was quick and the drinks were brought to our table in a few minutes. Good was good and was impressed by the attention of the member of staff (who greeted us initially). Definitely will pay another visit. This restaurant opens at 3pm on a Sunday (which was the day we visited). That was a bonus as well

Myself and my partner have had this Indian as a takeaway for the last 2 times. It seems to get better everytime we have it. It’s so flavourful and tastes incredible. Has to be the best by far that we have tried in sittingbourne. Top quality for and service

We have visited this Indian regularly of late and the food is very tasty. I have the same dish 75% of the time in all Indian restaurants and The British Raj is my favourite it’s just a shame it’s not got more people here. Please give it a try!

Went with friends for a birthday celebration good food good service

We received a warm welcome when we arrived and was served by a polite and attentive lady. The food was both fabulous and of very generous portions. All washed down with a couple of Cobra lagers, which were on draft. Drinks, poppadoms, starters and mains for 2 with a bill under £50. Excellent value for money and I would highly recommend 👌🏻

We were visiting Sittingbourne for a birthday yesterday. We decided to look for an Indian restaurant before we went to the party. We came across the British Raj and we absolutely loved it. We were greeted by two lovely young ladies who could not do enough to help. I ordered a paneer masala which was out of this world. Being a vegetarian I eat a lot of paneer dishes and this was right up there on the top of my list. My partner had a chicken madras and a Dahl which he loved too. The special rice and Pashwari nan were exceptional too. The chutneys with the popadoms were so tasty the lovely young lady gave us some to take home. I would definitely drive the 1.15 mins to have another one of their beautiful curries. My sincere compliments to the chef, very talented person. Thank you for an exceptional meal and thank you to the young ladies who made us feel so welcome.

First and last time I will ever order from here! Food was bland, chicken jalfrazie was not fresh chicken it taste like it was reheated, lamb sag had two bits of lamb the rest was soggy sauce.. I could go on it was the worst Indian I have ever had. And to top it off the delivery driver didn’t have enough change to give me when they knew I was paying cash. Only ordered from here as I thought I would change it up abit and try somewhere new.. never again stick to what you know.

Family called in for a meal in this nice restaurant very tidy and clean as always. Unfortunately the food didn’t seem as good this time for me at lest I wasn’t overly impressed. Tandoor Duck starter it says succulent but was really tough still lesson learned. We changed our meal time from 19:30 to 18:30 due to circumstances so there weren’t many in the restaurant at this time. On a number of occasions Whilst we were eating for some unknown reason it seemed the entire staff were stood in the bar area staring at us I noticed it a few times and to be honest it made me feel rather uneasy. They forgot to make my garlic keema Nan bread and I was Promised because it took so long to turn up they would take some money off for me which of course they didn’t I never asked for this they offered so I was a bit disappointed don’t like offers you’re not willing to keep. Overall the main meal was nice and yes I will return back things aren’t right it will be the last visit I’m sure there are plenty more places to try. Perhaps it was just an off night due to the weather just to say thank you for all the past service And good meals.

This is the place to share if you want to starve from hunger. If there was a 0 that's what would I rate it. Always promises but always late. Promising one hour but delayed for 1.5 and still no food. Had to cancel at the end and have a sandwich. Very rude customer service.

Had a meal last night and it was the best Indian I’ve had in a very long time. The staff were very friendly, the restaurant was immaculate and the food was perfect. Will definitely be revisiting as soon as possible .

Family of 7 great meal as last time staff were lovely and looked after us. The meal was tasty. Been in a few times before and had no cause for complaint. Hope keep up the good work and we all look forward to our next visit.

Ordered on their app called as was late they said out for delivery... still never came after 3 more phone calls was told order never went through got it nearly 2 hours late ruined our evening certainly dont use app but I will never use again terrible service.

If you are a cultured person who is used to eating food with seasoning, please don't eat here. From the rice to the curries everything was bland and lacked taste and even lacked salt the most basic of seasoning. The only justification I can think of for food being that bland with such good reviews is that the local customers are not used to well-seasoned food beyond salt and pepper and the restaurant is catering to their palettes, which I guess is understandable. They gave us poppadoms with no dips, and all there was little distinction in taste between the 4 different curries we ordered. Unfortunately not a pleasant experience.

This was disappointing. The food lacked seasoning. I ordered a hot curry, but it was VERY mild. I'm actually surprised that they have decent reviews, because the food was not on par with the reviews in my opinion. I went here ages ago when I was younger and I doubt ill be going back.

I have used this place a few times as a takeaway and on all occasions the food has turned up cold or extremely late. When I have call restaurant to complain the is always the answer of sorry. However the manager has no idea how to fix the problems, as they always ask for an extra 15 mins to sort your order but it is never enough. The food is good once you have warmed it up in the oven.

we walked in and there was an obviously nervous waitress which she told us later she had only been there a week and her boss was out on a delivery I ordered a glass of red wine but she didn't know where they were kept. She was missing telephone orders because she was taking our order. Eventually her boss walked in wearing a horrible tracksuit who then got me a wine. After a very long wait we was handed our starter by the way there was one other couple in the restaurant so obviously there was only one chef in the kitchen the starter sheek kebab tasted of a mixture of dog food and turkey twizlers and the tandoori prawn looked like road kill the whole visit was terrible and we wont be going back

Decided to treat our boys to a curry after a good yer at school, we have visited previously but du to time we decided to have a delivery. It was hot, tasty and plentiful.

Have eaten in the restaurant lots of times over the years and enjoyed it, so thought I’d try a takeaway rather than the usual go to restaurants. Food arrived in around 20 mins after order via just eat. What can I say. Absolutely fantastic food. . Packed full of flavour and nice and hot. I was also greeted with a smile when I opened the front door 😀 Will definitely order a takeaway from here again One happy customer. Well done British Raj!

Absolutely shocking service. After my 2nd call after waiting 2 hrs 10 mins I asked for a good will gesture of some sort to make up for the wait. Phone guy relayed that to his manager who didn't want to speak directly to me and instead started shouting rudely. If that was in person there would be big trouble. Rubbish service. Plenty of good Indian takeaways in sittingbourne who would treat there customers with respect. Its a no from me

Just had my first and last delivery from here.....Where do I start? Popadom's without lime pickle or salad, onion bhaji's were bitesize, missed dishes, no seasoning, small portions but more importantly, cold!!!!! Soggy naan.....Yuk!

My wife and I regularly order from the British Raj and have really enjoyed the food. Unfortunately the same cant be said for the service. Despite being quoted an hour for delivery we had to wait 2.5 hours on the last order. We were told that this was due to an exceptionally busy period and an issue with the online ordering system. We decided to take them at their word and order again tonight. 2 hours later we are still waiting. Phoned to ask what is going on and no one seems to know but it apparently left the kitchen at some point. They are unable to tell us when the food will arrive and just seem to laugh it off. No offer of discount or any apologies on either occasion. They have lost our custom which is a shame as the food is so good.

Came here for a work getting together and one of the staff members was very rude and was having a go at us because some of us didn't turn up and there was black hairs in my food !

We ate here on New Years Eve, food was good as usual, my favourite is chicken chat followed by chicken malaber. Staff are always efficient and friendly.

The British Raj (at the time of writing) accepts Meerkat Meals 2-for1 on main dishes. Having not been to this curry house in a while we thought we'd give it a go. The noises of appreciation from around the table were confirmation of how I felt, that the food was really good. I decided I would try a selection of their vegetable dishes and these were all full of flavour and - in the case of the vegetable pathia - excellently spiced. As well, they even have non-alcoholic beer available. The average price (using the Meerkat offer) was £20 per head including drinks. Card payments are accepted here, and the staff were very friendly - we even got to shake the hand of the head chef! I will definitely be going again.

Visited Monday just gone with a friend and the meal was excellent and then visited tonight with my other half, again the meal was really good and good value and will use again in the near future.

Very hospitable.....good menu and good food.....plenty of space......modern......still prefer Darjeling Heights in Rainham but it is worth a second visit.

We have used these for a few years now. Never had any problems until the last few months. Delivery is becoming a joke. We placed an order about 5:30 last Saturday. The delivery time was estimated at 6:55. Ok for a busy Saturday. It got to 7:20 and I rung to chase. They advised that they were busy and that our order had left. (I did hear in the background that our box was sitting there!) I finished the call and another half an hour later our order turned up!!!! We live about 15 minutes away so what happened within the 2 hours!!! It arrived cold too so I had to reheat it. Not happy and won't use them again. Sort yourselves out British Raj!! Grrr.....

Do not use these . I ordered a take away and was told the curry’s come complete with rice only to find they didn’t when I looked in the bag . I rung to complain and was told they would call back but after 20mins of waiting I re rung to be told they don’t and therefore had a wasted cold curry . Absolutely disgusted especially as of Christmas Eve . I will not be using these ever again

Ordered online and had a meal delivered and it was on time and very tasty. Will definitely use The British Raj again.

We have been to the British raj before and it was lovely, however for my birthday celebration I decided to go to the British raj rather than going to spoons world buffet. When we arrived it was quiet,which was fine but considering it was quiet the service was very very slow. Took 5 minutes just to order our drinks and usually by the time we had our poppadoms we would have been asked to order our mains but this time we had finished our popadums before the guy had came over.. Drinks were slow too. Everything was slow, there was more sauce than meat. our bill had a mistake made on it. Very disappointed considering I chose to come to this restaurant rather than going elsewhere and I wish I hadn't of gone here. It was not worth the time or money. Even family members had said the same and that made feel embarrassed.

I am very disappointed with this restaurant. I have used them a lot in the past and used to be very good. The last few times I have used them the food was very bland and not the spice strength I ordered. I decided to give it one last try last Saturday and had to wait 2 hours for the food. When I called the restaurant; instead of an apology all I got was “well we are a restaurant you know and we can’t keep up with our orders” I understand if they are under pressure but if that is the case then they should have said the order would take longer than expected at the time of ordering. I would then have thought twice about ordering there. The man I spoke to on the phone was not at all apologetic and considering how much I have spent at this restaurant it is extremely bad customer service for such a loyal customer. I will not be returning. The food again was not only bland but was cold! AVOID!

Initially impressed when I popped in to pick up a menu. Rang for a delivery and was told up to an hour, not a problem I thought, until waiting 1:45 minutes. Food arrived reasonably warm but lacked the flavour we anticipated with both dishes tasting the same. The mixed starter was extremely below par and somewhat on the small side. The search for a decent curry In Sittingbourne continues to become elusive!

Me & my partner visited last night (23rd Oct 19) for dinner and must admit we had horrible experience. Stale chicken, only one waiter serving and food quality was worst. We have been to Empress, Lateef & Maharani and other Indian restaurants nearby but this one is worst in Sittingbourne, No wonder why it’s up for sale !!

Not the best curry house waited over 2hrs for our food and still got it wrong! .small portions. And too little staff.!

We had a table booked for a birthday meal for 11 people, our booking was for 7.30 and we never got our first course until nearly an hour later with a further long wait for our main course. The food was a little bland and very dry. I understand and appreciate that at times you have to wait when a restaurant is busy but it was too long a wait for us really and without so much as a comment about it from the staff. Service with a smile wasn't exactly a phrase you could use either, the male staff were very neutral with their attitude and the female staff member made us feel as though we were inconveniencing them by being there. We will not be returning.

Superb food and service would highly recommend

Best curry house in Sittingbourne. For excellent food, service, friendly polite staff and comfort. The curry here is packed with flavour but not overdone. The staff are lovely always make us feel nothing is too much trouble. The only thing I would change to make this a 5* rating is the window. I would put a curtain or board up as the drinkers hanging around in the grave yard opposite and the street outside can be a bit distracting.

Atmosphere: was great until stag party came in, but no deduction for something that was not the restaurant's fault.

Pre booked a week ago for sat 24th August 6 people for 7-30 arrived on time, restaurant busy, told them we had booked a table for 6 they showed us to a table that was for 4 people not even made up right in the corner. Not happy at all the waiter then said oh their was a mix up , course their wasn’t the majority of people sitting down eating had not booked and were sitting in nice tables. Thanks for ruining my birthday.

I've visited this restaurant last month and the food was very good except that the paratha that I had was very thin and I did mention that to them. Last week I visited the restaurant again and the manager remembered straightaway that I'd mention the paratha before and he cooked me an excellent one. I would recommend this restaurant and the food is always good and the service exceptional .

Where do i begin... I thought i would try British Raj for a change and a treat for my father I booked for a table of 4 and stated ill be using a tastecard on a Tuesday which also states on the tastecard website i can use it. We had our meal which was average we discussed it wasn't great and proberly wouldn't rush back. The bill came and the discount wasn't applied so I approached the bar and explained to be branded basically a liar I did not ask the staff if i could use it. On principle I explained I asked twice if i could. So the lady sent out the manager who came out in an aggressive manner still wearing his chefs outfit! before i was given the chance to explain. He explained to me he had only opened on a Tuesday ( usually closed) because it was one of his " good customers" birthday! How i was meant to know that i have no idea. He said he was sorry i was uninformed but the staff member had only started there that day and she's 16! again not my problem but was made to feel it was me in the wrong and I had inconvienced his " Good customers" birthday. This conversation proceeded to go round in circles with him raising his voice so the whole restaurant was aware he said pay all the money or dont pay anything which i found very odd. I was sticking to my guns and said i will pay the 2 for 1 ( that was all the food was worth in my opinion) he told us to just leave and dont bother paying. I explained I wouldn't be doing that i will pay for what we have had. As he proceeded to raise his voice and tell me how much he earns a week which is no interest to me. I had to basically beg him to take some money as I'm not the kind of person that would just leave after much persuasion he accepted. I have never been soo embarrassed in front of people I booked here to take my father for a good evening which ended up in us all humiliated in front of a whole restaurant. Needless to say I will not return to be treated like that. We will stick to our usuall indian restaurant which treats their customers with respect and the food is much better!

This wasn’t the most authentic Indian restaurant I’ve ever been to! An English waiter! Non Indian music and not your typical Indian decor. Nevertheless I loved my meal there which was of course the main reason for going. I had the South Indian chicken dish cooked to madras hotness I loved it. Full of flavour with a really nice Peshawar naan and mushroom rice. Good service overall. Good value too.

Lovely food & very friendly staff good service

Went with a group and was waiting a long time for drinks, starters took hour and half to arrive then waited another hour for mains. When mains did arrive they were luke warm but after waiting so long we didn’t want to wait another hour or have them nuked in microwave.

Despite a large hen do making alot of noise, we had a good experience at the restaurant. Food was lovely & definitely better then the other curry houses in town.

I’ve been to the British Raj quite a few times in the past and really enjoyed the food which was fantastic value for money as they used to offer a starter, main dish, side dish and a rice dish for £11.99. Having not been for a few years it now costs £18 and the food wasn’t as good as previously and came out luke warm. On top of all that the waitress had shocking customer service skills and was downright grumpy and rude. Fortunately my company for the evening saved the night and the male waiters were very nice and friendly. Not sure I’d go back now.
