Boys Hall in Ashford

Waited over an hour for food to be served. Yorkshire puddings were like pancakes. Complained but was told there was nothing could be done about it. Overall very disappointing meal

Very nice place. Excellent food. But (!!), we are in 2024 (!) Why are there no Alcohol-free wines and sparkling on the menu?? Seriously!! You just get a choice of five very sweet no/low alcohol cocktails. It is truly disappointing to be resorted to drinking just water when all my friends could drink wine for their meals. There are so many restaurants that are offering excellent alcohol-free wines for a few years. It is a great experience for ppl who cannot drink alcohol (for health reasons or driving!!) and want to avoid resorting to drinking overly sweet fruit cocktails!!  Boys Hall, I believe you can do better than that!!

Without doubt the best restaurant I have ever had the pleasure of being too, the food had surface was 2nd to none completely perfect in every way the place itself is simply amazing if you are looking for perfection and you have found it. I would like to thank all the staff Especially Jacqueline reception manager Emilia I’ll waitress for the evening and the bar manager. Without question I hope to become a regular thank you for the amazing experience.

In the past, I’ve been to Boys Hall for their set lunch menu and have also sampled their delicious rare beef sandwich in the bar. But on this occasion, we were going to Boys Hall to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We arrived a little early so had a pre-dinner drink in front of the beautiful inglenook fireplace in the period lounge. All the staff were very attentive and friendly and enquired as to whether we were at Boys Hall for a special occasion. We were seated in the restaurant at a table overlooking the terrace and lovely gardens. Our servers were very friendly, efficient and knowledgeable about the food and drink, much of which is locally sourced. For my main course, the Romney Marsh lamb was excellent and cooked to perfection. My husband chose the local short rib of beef and was also not disappointed. At the end of our meal, we were presented with brownies on a plate with “Happy Anniversary” piped in chocolate. A lovely final touch to a wonderful evening. Thank you Boys Hall.

Champagne delivery totally delayed for a birthday lunch. We asked as soon as we entered the restaurant unfortunately we had to ask again twice, far too much of a delay as not chilled transparency of the situation would have been far more important, we then decide.

My wife and I ate here again as our last experience was just too good to be true! But once again they smashed out of the park! We both had different dishes in each course and every one was just sublime, we could not fault anything we had including wine by the glass just brilliant! All this would not be as good if you didn’t have excellent waiting staff to add to the occasion and boy they did! All very professional but relaxed and a special shout out to Amelia who was absolutely charming. My only issue is trying to get in now as it’s so popular but what a nice problem to have for Boys Hall. Every other restaurant in the area must look in ore to see how busy they are on a Saturday lunch time! No it's not cheap but if you want exceptional food and service go to Boys Hall you won't be disappointed! see you again soon. Phil & Angela x

All round excellent experience. All the staff very welcoming and engaging. We had Ellie serving us and she was really lovely taking time to explain everything to us and ensuring we were happy with everything. Food was amazing. We will be back soon

We had three rooms for two nights as my daughter was getting married locally. A beautiful building with stunning rooms. Wow the bath in "Margaret". We had Margaret, Knatchbull and Romney, all wonderful. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. It helped to make the wedding very special.

The Boys Hall has such great reviews and responses, I had to check it out for myself. Although my visit left me wondering what the hype is.. this is not a negative review.. The venue is stunning inside and out. A beautiful ambiance. Greeted with an offering to take our coats, buy a very friendly waitress. We skipped the starters and went for mains & desserts. I had the beef short rib. Arrived beautifully presented; I had ordered a side of potatoes as the dish didn’t come with any carbs. The beef was cooked well with the accompanying vegetables seasoned well. It was all very tasty; I was expecting a bone in the beef, it was just a slab. My friend had the soup for a main, which was served with a tiny cheese toasty. It looked nice. For dessert I opted for the soufflé; blackberry crumble, if I remember correctly. It was very nice; the nutmeg custard was nice, just very sweet for me with the soufflé. The cost of the meal was around £50 each with a drink. I enjoyed the experience, and would recommend anyone to visit. I’m just left unsure if I would visit again; maybe during the summer months to take advantage of the outside seating area.

Positives first.. beautiful old building set in stunning grounds. The restaurant wraps around the courtyard garden with big windows . The staff are delightful, young but very attentive without being intrusive. There seem to be a lot of staff , especially in the kitchen as you can see them going back and forth in the garden gathering ingredients. They offer a 2 course menu for £25 or 3 courses for £35 which the majority of the elderly clientele seemed to be opting for. We decided on the a la carte mainly because it had a “from the fire” option and I love grilled food. My husband started with the bone marrow which he said was very tasty, he then had the stone bass with roast potatoes whilst I opted for the steak rare from the fire with roasted vegetables. He said the stone bass was nice but the potatoes were not crispy in fact they were a bit soggy. When my steak arrived I looked at it and thought oh oh. It was very thin and had no real colour on the outside, grilled meat should be beautifully caramelised on the outside. I cut into it and it was grey. Our lovely waitress had obviously seen my disappointment and came right over agreed it wasn’t rare and took it away. I’ve never sent anything back before in my life! I eventually got a new steak which was definitely not overdone in fact at one end it was raw with a lump of un rendered fat, there was no caramelisation on the outside but I’d sooner eat it raw than overcooked! My guess is that they are geared up for the set menu crowd and maybe the grill hadn’t been fired up and wasn’t hot enough? In any case cooking a steak is a basic skill and any decent chef should have known just by looking at it that it wasn’t right. The lovely waitress was very apologetic and offered us complementary desserts which we accepted and they were ok. Such a shame as the venue has a lot of potential and I know there are a lot of glowing reviews so maybe I was just unlucky, we’ll give it another chance and see but I think they need to look at the chefs abilities.

We had a stunning meal this weekend, and can't recommend highly enough. The restaurant is stunning, and cosy. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The food is beautiful, and generous in portion size. Whilst not cheap, we felt we got what we paid for. Following our delicious meal, we moved to the rustic pub, and had a few more drinks to finish off the evening. The bartender recommended a cocktail he created and won awards for. It was delicious. I recommend you try the Simon Limoncello Sour when you visit!! We will definitely be back in the summer.

We stayed here overnight and had dinner and breakfast. We arrived before check-in time and were treated to complimentary tea, coffee and a delicious chocolate layer cake. Dinner was wonderful. We started with cocktails in the lounge and I had the Mulberry Lady. Then we went into the restaurant for a sumptuous meal. I started with the white crab with devilled egg crumpet with Thermidor sauce and my partner had beetroot tart with white onion cream, fennel and apple relish. For the main course We had lamb cutlets and butterflied sea bream and for dessert I had apple and pear crumble. There is a very extensive wine list and I finished with a Brandy Alexander and a hazelnut whip cocktail. Our room was huge and very comfortable. There is plenty of space in the car park and the staff were all wonderful and couldn't do enough for us. Boys Hall was not cheap, but was worth the money. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Booked for lunch with my friend and had never been there before. The venue has the wow factor, the weather was glorious so we were given the open of sitting outside. The staff could not have been any more professional and welcoming, Vivian was so lovely. The food was great and we will definitely be back, maybe with the additional hotel rooms next time! Ps the bar area looks stunning, we had a quick look on our way out. 👌

OMG! The BEST time with you. Everything was just PERFECTION! Big shout out to Vivienne (apologies if incorrectly spelt), she's an asset to Boys Hall, we loved her. Every other staff member, a dream! From check in, the most gorgeous room, dinner, lounge drinks, breakfast to check out. Faultless and genuinely spot on. Can't wait to come back. You are what Kent has needed in like forever. Special occasion Sunday lunch with a group of friends. Pre lunch drinks in the lounge then to our table as per our booking time. As a group with hearing not at its best the acoustics were very good much better than many restaurants. Most of the starters were excellent though the beetroot tart perhaps a little modest for the price. Main roasts excellent and we left full. My only gripe were that the roast potatoes were I think perhaps 'triple roasted' with lots of lovely crunchy fat but very little potato. I think the waitress may have been encouraged to get us to order extra sides (cauliflower cheese). Watch out though for the mark up on the wine and check prices before ordering if offered an alternative by the servers

We stayed here for our first wedding anniversary and we have to say we cannot fault Boys Hall! The rooms were immaculate and the decor was stunning! The service throughout our stay was top notch, we were always greeted with a happy face. The food was fabulous and again we cannot fault it. I will definitely be recommending Boys Hall to anyone that will listen! Thank you again for a lovely stay!

Absolutely faultless. Our room was absolutely stunning, as were the communal areas of the hotel, the bed was luxurious and the food was fantastic. All topped off with brilliant service from staff who really care and are proud of what they have created. Can't wait to go back.

Fantastic stay celebrating a birthday and anniversary. Room and food were both spectacular. We've just got home and are already working out when we can come back!

This is a review about the restaurant only, not the rooms.

We had a really wonderful one night stay this weekend and plan to come back later this year. This hotel is very easily accessible from Ashford International making it a prime weekend getaway location for those living in London. The common areas are super comfortable and stylishly decorated - perfect for relaxing with a drink or the complimentary tea/coffee/cake which is provided in the afternoons. There are various tables and benches available outside to take advantage of in the warmer months. We stayed in Banks which was beautiful and up on its own on the 2nd floor - the bathtub with the view is definitely a highlight! Lovely products for use - we ended up buying a hand cleanser to take home. Overall the hotel has quite a limited number of rooms which makes for a very personal experience with staff recognising and checking in with the hotel guests regularly (even for a one night stay). We also really enjoyed our dinner in the restaurant. Have to admit we felt a little fussy but the service in the restaurant was top tier, handled all of our requests etc. as if they were no bother at all. Extremely accommodating service. Food / wine were delicious as well. Same goes with breakfast! Only thing we will note is that hot breakfast is not included in your stay - these must be ordered and paid for separately. Continental breakfast items (fruit, yogurt, toast, croissants) + coffee/tea are included per note on the booking page.

The setting is perfect the garden is immaculate and the outside space will be perfect in the summer. First impressions are important and we were greeted with a very warm welcome. All the staff were amazing and attentive but not over the top. We were shown to our table and the interior is beautifully set up and the wood burner was perfect. We went with another couple and we all ordered different food which was all faultless. The wine we had was one of the best reds I've had in a long time. The setting was perfect, the food incredible and the staff were exceptional. We had a fantastic evening and will return soon. Thank you to all the staff for a perfect evening.

On arrival I was impressed with the main building . We were logged in and invited to relax in the lounge,which was very pleasant if a little dark. We ordered drinks which took 20 minutes to arrive! Fifteen minutes after our booked time in the restaurant we were taken to our table. The restaurant is a moden extension well presented but no thought has been given to the acoustics, the atmosphere was most disagreeable with the noise level though the roof. I was not able to hear anybody in my party across the table! The starters to 30 minutes to arrive with only three out of four arriving together and the forth did not arrive until the others had finished theirs. Another long wait ensured before our mains arrived with staff apologising at intervals calling us GUYS before making the excuses for poor service . The whole meal experience took Two and a half hours without coffee. VERY DISAPOINTING as the quality of the food was excellent.

Fabulous food and a lovely atmosphere and friendly people. Highly recommend for couples, family, friends or business.

Had a great lunch in the private dining room on 24 February to celebrate a special birthday. Food and service lovely as ever. Special thanks to Sophie for looking after us so well, Jacqui for helping organise and lovely to see Vivian again.

Fantastic. Best meal I’ve had in ages. Fantastic service from everyone. Came for Sunday lunch and it was absolutely delicious. Saw another person said it was pricey, perhaps it is but it is worth it for the quality. Go elsewhere if you want a cheap meal. Dessert out of this world, and great coffee. Beautiful place with beautiful food. One of the nicest roast dinners we have eastern in a long time. The cocktails were delicious as were the starters. What an enjoyable experience. Will definitely visit again.

Wow!!!! Seriously wow! We came tonight for the first time! I have missed out for so long!!!! We went for our 18th anniversary and to celebrating having enough money to go out for a slap up meal! This did not disappoint! From the second we arrived we were met by what felt like life long friends. Instantly felt at home and I was so excited for every second! We had the most beautiful local pink champagne! From Canterbury! Simpsons! Stunning! Then sat in the restaurant to again be greeted by instant comfort! We had the blended mozzarella, pesto and walnut! Sensational! Also the croquettes! Totally recommend these nibbles to start. Then to the porterhouse steak!!!!!!!!!!!! No words can describe this taste sensation!! The meat just melted in your mouth, the potatoes were out of this world, the root veg was stunning! We couldn’t eat another thing - yet we had the souffle and the espresso martini! Huge shout out to Lily, Nina and Vivi! You made our evening and we are so grateful! I cannot recommend this place enough for ticking every single box! I left making friends and a new home!

My first visit since the conversion by the new owners. The extension has been sympathetically done and the dining area is bright, airy and spacious. A very nice lunch with a good range of choices. Driving prevented me from sampling the wine list but it looks extensive with good Kent/Sussex examples, and there is also an interesting range of cocktails. My stone bass was very nicely cooked and there is a good choice of vegetables. Excellent service from Tom, and thanks to Natasha for her help/attention and for giving us a tour of the older part of the building. I'm told sunday lunch is very good - we will certainly put it to the test.

Cannot recommend Boys Hall enough! we came back in December for a little treat for ourselves and went with a couple of friends. From the moment we arrived, we loved it. Beautifully decorated, really cosy and welcoming. Staff were amazing, so friendly and couldn't do more for you. We had lunch with you and also stayed overnight, staying in Banks and De Bois. Rooms were beautiful, really comfortable bed. Breakfast the next day was lovely, we've stayed at another place not too far away from Boys Hall which is ALOT more expensive and the breakfast there was honestly shocking whereas at Boys Hall it's all homemade produce, as much as you like of it all and was delicious. We will definitely be back and I can't wait!!

Stunning venue! We didn't stay as we live local but went to the restaurant. Lovely food and atmosphere. We were a bit sceptical of the hype regarding Boys Hall, so we had put off going here but figured we'd treat ourselves to a nice lunch, and we were very pleasantly surprised. It's definitely worth asking about the set menu though as it's basically the same as the regular menu, but it works out a lot cheaper. But overall, it certainly lives up to it's reputation. It easilly beats other local places like Stubbs for quality. We will definitely be returning!

I am 60 years old and think I have just had the best meal of my life? Well apart from barbs roast dinners but it was absolutely spot on, bone morrow starter then porterhouse steak, bottle of red wine, then Irish coffee, I think I’m going back tomorrow 😎😂

Been here now several times, and every time it’s better and better and better. From the moment we arrived we were warmly greeted. Our waitress was so delightful and simply great (huge asset to boys hall) The food was impeccable and so tasty. Keep up the amazing work you have put in. This place is one of my favourite restaurants in Ashford.

Was treated to a meal here and what a lovely experience it was. The food was delicious leaving us both satisfied and wanting more. It was quite expensive compared to some other fine dining experiences but some of that can be offset by how beautiful the venue is and the experience that brings. Will earn any one brownie points with their partner for any special occasion.

My wife and I visited Boys Hall on Saturday the 27th for the first time, we were pleased to see no dogs here which seems to be the “ in thing” at the moment? I hope that is the rules here well at least in the restaurant as we do love dogs but not at a quality food establishment like this! Anyway I’m going to keep this short, everything we ate on Saturday was just amazing, we cannot praise the food any higher and when we were told the head chef Charlie was only 27 years old we were even more impressed he well deserved the Michelin recognition and so soon! As I said all dishes we ate were amazing but I must pick out personally the Venison it was sublime! Later Charlie came out and had a quick chat with us and he is also a fantastic approachable man who will be a name of note for the future! Thank you all at Boys Hall as the chef said it a brilliant team that makes it all work and Boy; did it work for us! See you soon. Phil & Angela

Note to management: It would've been perfect if the fire had been lit in the sitting room on a frosty January day - We had to keep our coats on in there!

We booked one of the private rooms for my partner's 60th birthday dinner celebrations and could not have been happier with the evening. There were 17 of us and everyone were so happy with their menu choices. The staff worked particular hard and nothing was too much trouble. Fantastic venue, stunning food and 1st class staff, can't recommend Boys Hall highly enough

Can’t recommend this place highly enough. Definitely doesn’t feel like you’re in Ashford! The full English breakfast is worth the trip alone.

Best restaurant to eat in Ashford by far. Everyone in my party said the Sunday Roast was the best they have had. Also really nice that they use locally sourced food. The staff do an excellent job making you feel welcome and look after you. Special mention to Chef Charlie who is incredibly talented and makes every dish unique.

What a find! Super super place beautifully decorated and with a really wonderful team across all areas. We stayed for my Husband’s 50th. Nothing was too much trouble and we look forward to returning. Have recommended to all our friends

Everything about this hotel is perfect! We had the most amazing night here. From sitting by the wood fire with drinks and delicious snacks in the lounge, to the enormous bedroom with roll top bath, and an unbelievable dinner in the restaurant, this place has it all! The restaurant is perfection and one of the best meals we have had all year, if not ever! It is the perfect getaway for a cosy night away. The staff are all lovely and knowledgeable and go above and beyond to make your stay special. We will certainly be returning asap.

Wonderful New Years Eve party. Champagne on arrival followed by 6 course fine dining experience. Amazing food, cooked to perfection. Fabulous jazz singer who entertained all evening. Danced the night away and more champagne at midnight. Beautiful hotel. Lovely staff. 💚

We enjoy many meals out and exploring new restaurants near us. This was absolute top drawer. The whole experience from the minute you arrive till the minute you leave feeling you have just had a fantastic eating experience. The food, service and venue are top drawer

A Fantastic experience and one of the best hotels we've stayed in. Great communication with staff from the second I booked and continued to be great throughout our stay. The room was amazing, the lounge with a fireplace making a cosy space, and the fantastic food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Thankyou Boys Hall for an amazing stay.

Lovely 400 years old building and really friendly staff, the pub and restaurant were great But if you get the Margaret room asked to be moved.... unless you love noise 😔. With an early start, we needed a good night and we were far from it. We waited quite a long time before asking the staff to ask them to go to the pub area and after it was much quieter. Until the party came to the room next door. With a bit of music, and drunk, one of them was shouting my name and my wife nationality. It is difficult for me to comprehend how they got hold of our personal information. Despite the stunning environment, I would never stay again save your money and stay in premier Inn for a better night sleep.

Loved staying here. The rooms are each so unique, spacious and beautiful. The food is all delicious, fresh and locally sourced. The owners are at hand making sure everything is taken care of in a warm and friendly manner and the Staff were so attentive. Can’t recommend enough.

I haven't given a star rating for rooms because I was there for a meal only. But, as to the other two criteria, the location is stunning and the service was excellent. The building, which dates from the early 17th Century, has been restored very sympathetically, as have the gardens. The staff were all friendly, helpful and attentive. The food was excellent. Lovely break for my 50th birthday. Fabulous old hotel with lovely sprawling lounge area and bar. Food in the restaurant was top notch. We stayed in the Margaret room which was a lovely suite - shower was amazing. Best part of the stay was the staff - all really attentive and friendly, nothing was a problem for them

I parked up for drinks today, and was greeted by a laundry lady asking 'do I have to park there?', which was a legitimate parking space right next to the main house. Taken aback I asked her what the problem was, and she said she'd have to walk around my car to carry her laundry to the laundry room. Haven't stayed in the hotel, so can't comment on that other than to say it is a beautiful old English country house. Had lunch in the restaurant, which was very lovely. A large warm room with lovely open views of gardens and courtyards. Great food, super service from Sophie. The only negative was the Ribeye steak. For £34, which did include one side dish. The steak itself was less than amazing. Quite thin and small. Was expecting a little more for the price. The rest of our food was superb. Will return.

2nd visit here, this time Sunday lunch. The main building is a beautiful old property, which we walked through as we left and it would be a perfect place for a chilled stay over , and the little pub has a great "snug" feel about it. The main restaurant is more open with lots of natural light and a spacious feel, this has nothing to do with food of course but a cocktail at "The Shard" is probably a better experience than in your local boozer. The food was excellent and is still the best we've experienced for this kind of restaurant you would like to expect. Not always the case in some expensive restaurants. The staff were very attentive and all of them were able to answer questions about the food. I'm not a food buff and if it tastes good I'm happy with that, but my wife and friends are, and they thought it was excellent. Yes it's pricey but it is actually worth it. We will be back.
