Myself and husband have been meaning to go for a while so glad we did excellent second to none food fantastic, staff brilliant definitely be going back SOON

We have been to this restaurant numerous times and cannot fault it. Friendly and efficient service and the food is good too! The garlic mushrooms are delicious and the fillet steak is perfectly pink. We always leave space for a pudding. Highly recommended.

Full pub on a Wednesday night. Starter of pate was excellent but main courses were poor. Two ham main courses were rather skimpy. Chicken main course was tuff and inedible , whilst scampi were almost non existent within a big batter case. The land lady appeared and failed to apologise, indeed spoke down to us and was almost rude. Probably a bad night but it was the rude landlady that will mean that we won’t be going their again.

In the past we have had a lovey Sunday lunch at the Boars Head. We decided to have dinner with friends during the week. Bad idea. I had the chicken Piri Piri which was like rubber, my sister had deep fried prawns which were mostly batter. I spoke to the manager who said “Everyone else liked the chicken “. Service recovery nil. On reflection we won’t be back.

Tucked away in the charming village of Ardington, in the beautiful Vale of the White Horse, and with my wife and two eldest granddaughters, we enjoyed a lovely lunch. Pleasantly greeted, and courteously served, we received generous portions of beautifully prepared and cooked dishes, at very reasonable prices. The restaurant has a wonderful ambience, and I can thoroughly recommend it.

Food and Service is Excellent. Lovely pub in a lovely village. We visited as a family of 7 and really enjoyed are meals. The landlady made us feel so welcome as did her staff. We will definitely be returning

Lovely pub in the pretty village of Ardington. Small car park, but room to park on roads nearby. (Listed in Wantage, which it isn’t!). Excellent service, extensive menu with delicious food nicely presented - a most enjoyable experience. It was extremely busy, but the service was excellent.

We went to the Boar's Head to celebrate my mother's 96th birthday, 3 things to say: The staff went to great to great lengths to help my mother in look aw in her wheel chair, The food was very well cooked and served and My mother wants go again very soon....what more cud you ask! Ok h and the beer is excellent!

The setting is in a lovely village and has a car park .The lunch was of a high quality. There is an option to dine outside in better weather. I have dined here with my family on several occasions as it is convenient to meet up there.

Six of us had drinks and an evening meal on a Saturday night. Everything was perfect. The staff were welcoming, attentive, helpful, and actually remembered who was having what without having to ask "who is having the steak & ale pie". Everyone enjoyed their meals and the vegetables were properly cooked, not half raw as is often the trend. It was warm, comfortable and clean. There was no automatic service charge and the final bill was good value. Even the coffee was extraordinarily good, not bitter like in places where they do not bother to clean their filters. Altogether a wholly pleasurable experience.

We had a lovely meal here yesterday everything was delicious and the staff were lovely too! I started with the salmon which was very tasty but could’ve done with a few more slices of bread to compensate for how much salmon there was. I also had the fillet steak done medium but was more medium rare this didn’t bother me and it was delicious. Definitely not chewy at all well done to the chef 👩‍🍳 Great service. It definitely is your local village pub lots of what seemed to be locals crowding the bar space but they didn’t get in the way of us. Lastly we finished with 2 coffees and a brownie very very good, definitely seemed homemade!

This is the best food around. ....fresh .....and large portions. Fairly priced ...cosy place to be ...helpful and friendly staff all the time....this is British ...through and through...5 star service....what a great place

The meal was good with an extensive menu although it is a bit of a punt as there is no menu available on the website. The pub is an old building but it seems to have lost its charm with the feel of a modern restaurant rather than a country pub.. The staff were pleasant but not experienced and there was no real warmth coming from any of them.

My husband and I had an extremely good lunch here and the service was excellent. The garlic mushrooms were the best I've ever had and my salmon roulade was so delicious. I thought it was very reasonably priced too.

Always a good welcome, the pub/restaurant always looks clean and tidy. This was the first time our friends had been for a meal and were impressed. My wife and I have never had a bad meal and the quality is always consistent

What a find, definitely one for the Telegraph review. Arrived with our black lab. I had the boar home made Pate to start, fabulous, followed by the most tender lamb I’ve ever had. My wife had cold water prawns to start gorgeous then the lamb. Loads of home grown veg. This is home made food made with care at very reasonable prices. It’s our go to pub now. Don’t ever go to the Beatle and Wedge, biggest rip off you’ll ever experience.

We visited The Boar's Head at lunchtime on a Saturday. The interior of the pub was tastefully decorated, warm and inviting, the service was excellent and the food fabulous. We would highly recommend.

I came in for Sunday lunch with my father. Perfect pint of Guinness and a good Sunday roast, which for the price point was perfectly tasty. I’d definitely try this lovely country pub out again and found it to be good value for money.

A simple, fairly restricted menu, but all dishes well judged and beautifully cooked. A robust pate, and a goat's cheese wrapped in filo, followed by a flavoursome and generous portion of Steak and Ale pie- piping hot with al dente vegetables, all served by bright, cheerful young staff, presided over by a very welcoming Manageress and her husband. The place was buzzing - hardly surprising, given the welcoming atmosphere. Wantage is lucky to have this place.

Located in an attractive Oxfordshire village, the interior has been quite heavily modernised and as such it lacks the quaint rustic charm that the outside of the building might suggest. It is very much a dining pub and whilst they will no doubt happily serve drinkers, this isn't the sort of place to go if you are hoping for a game of darts. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the food from a regularly changing menu is top quality and quite reasonably priced given the high standards. Only one ale was available at the time of my visit, locally brewed Loose Canon's Abingdon Bridge, which was in excellent condition; I believe normally a larger range of ales would be available. The pub also boasts a pleasant garden.

We had the most amazing food ever! The Atmosphere in the pub was very homely and welcoming, the staff are all smiley and friendly. My boyfriend was happy as they do Corona on tap! I would recommend the fillet steak and the chicken dish which is wrapped in pancetta. If anyone is looking for a High quality dinner and service, definitely consider booking a table here. Fairly pricey but worth it! We will definitely be returning soon.

Once again a very nice meal nothing fancy just great English food well cooked and presented, never had any reason to complain. In my opinion the best restaurant in the near wantage area, you must try this one out

This is the third time we have eaten here, the pub takes their COVID measures seriously which makes you feel very safe. The staff are great just the right mixture of friendliness and professionalism. My wife opted for smoked Salmon and Prawns, which she enjoyed, I went for the pie of the day which was beef and mushroom with salad and chips, this was disappointing nothing wrong with it but the last time I had the Shepard’s pie the filling was the same, small chunks of beef not very tender beef with a gravy and puff pastry placed on top of the beef, the Shepards pie was exactly the same but with mash. The salad was fresh and tasty.We will happily eat there again but I will change my choice of menu. I haven’t marked it down as average because overall the establishment deserved higher.

Can’t think there’s a more dependable pub for a meal in the White Horse area than the Boars Head. Excellent comprehensive menu, reasonably priced, and always a good welcome.

We have been to The Boars Head a number of times since it reopened. Each time the food and service was outstanding. The staff are always friendly, helpful, and had done everything possible to ensure all customers felt safe also. I would highly recommend to everyone.

Used to work near here 20 years ago and was often in the BH. It was good then - but blimey, it's better now. By a LONG way. It was a central point between where we live and friends from Marlborough.The covid safety etc was exemplary, the menu varied and excellent - the food backed this up - starters, mains and a pudding choice that was almost impossible to decide on, it was so good - raspberry panacotta in my case. The menu isn't on the web site as it keeps changing; if today was normal - and I suspect it was - then it's going to be good whenever.One of the party booked for lunch next week to meet others - and I'm looking for an excuse to return asap.The service was excellent too - professional and friendly.Well done and thank you.

We were over the moon to find this wonderful country pub. Inside was very clean, fresh and smart looking and the food was great. Staff were very attentive, everyone wore masks and tables very well spaced, so no Covid concerns. The menu was extensive with so many options to choose from. I chose a very healthy option of steamed fish which was well presented and delicious. My husband enjoyed the sweet menu too which had some great choices. I would highly recommend trying it out.

Our first meal out since March I am glad we chose the Boars Head. We pre booked a table for lunch time, when we arrive we had our temperature taken and contact details entered onto an info sheet. The staff were super friendly and made us feel safe and welcome. We opted for main courses only, it arrive well presented and cooked. The whole experience was great we will certainly go back.

Pleased to be able to dine at the Boars Head again. Excellent measures to keep their clientele safe in these unprecedented times, so felt safe and secure during our visit. As always the food and hospitality were excellent. Such a treat to visit a pub that serves genuine home cooked food rather than freezer to fryer or ping and ding food served in so many pubs these days. I would recommend this eatery very highly and would defy anyone that doesn’t enjoy it and return again and again.

Glad to be back to the pub and The Boar’s Head is the place to be. They’ve made some great changes for social distancing so not to worry. I’ve missed this and after enjoying ham,egg and chips I followed it up with their new Black Forest Sundae! Absolutely beautiful and I’ve already rebooked for the family next week.

It's great to see TBH open again with some really nice changes to accommodate the current social distancing measures. An excellent selection with something for everyone. The food lived up to its description especially the red Thai spiced soup and the Camembert cooked in the box with a selection of vegetables and chutneys. Well worth diverting off the main road.

First time ever in this pub, or even this village, but not the last. Good simple cooking, from a good choice menu that was tasty, wholesome and hot! Shows what can be done with good ingredients and not trying to over complicate the dishes.

Have always had exceptional service and staff are always very obliging regarding any changes to the menu - it does say very clearly on the menu to discuss any dietary requirements when placing your order. I’m sure if you had done this you would have received an acceptable meal.

Visited with my family for my mother’s birthday, venue was nice and had a good starter. (Garlic mushrooms)We went on a Sunday, I’m vegetarian and asked for the ‘vegetarian’ roast, I was not informed when I ordered that there would be no veggie gravy on the plate, nor that the potatoes on the plate had been cooked in goose fat.I was only informed of this when I asked for veggie gravy and would have unknowingly eaten them otherwise. I was offered a new potatoes alternative but this would not have solved the plate being dry with no form of gravy.The lady (I assume to be the manager) said that it says on the menu to inform them of any dietary requirements or allergy’s, but I would have thought that if someone orders a vegetarian main to at least inform them that the gravy and potatoes have been made from meat stock, more to the point- if the meal wasn’t to be served with meat gravy then why were meat potatoes put on the plate?As it turned out most of the meal was left uneaten.A real shame as everyone else had a good meal and I’d heard good things about this place.

This was our first visit to the Boar’s Head, we went with friends who regularly go for dinner. We were welcomed by very pleasant staff, it was 7pm on a Friday evening and the restaurant was busy, so booking is essential. Our drinks were served quickly followed by our starters, I had Hot Pot Prawns which were excellent and very hot. My main corse was Salmon with a chilly sauce a voice of fresh vegetables or a salad was offered, I had the vegetables with very good chunky fries. This is a location we will definitely be going back too very soon.

6 of us dined and all had 3 courses. The food was delicious, good size portion and came out hot. I would come again. What I would say is although the staff were friendly and helpful we were always in search of them. Wether it was for butter, more drinks, the bill and then paying for the bill! I know it’s a fine line and the experience was fine and chilled. what I would say is you could have got more drinks out of us if you only came and asked. Also a check back would help if your guest needed something else?? Just a thought? Thanks again, I would recommend to friends, actually I already have!

A village pub which most people need to travel to, serving quality fresh cooked food with a good selection of drinks. The guest ales change on a very regular basis giving a good variety. The service has always been very good nothing being too much trouble. Alway have a very enjoyable evening every time I visit.

I have been a fairly regular visitor here for lunch and dinners over 30 years and although I find the current management friendly enough I no longer find myself drawn there. The food is mediocre and the service slightly over-controlling. I find myself choosing to go elsewhere. Lots of people seem to be happy with the place so good luck to them.

Freshly make, home cooked food - consistently good whatever day or time you visit, with daily specials menu. Never had a poor meal there.Pub/restaurant is buzzing even on week day evenings and has its own car park.A wide range of different gins are on offer and there is a sunny garden for use in the summer.You do need to book a table, especially at weekends.

The menu here is what you might expect in a retirement home, bland, unimaginative. However the service given was good.

On visiting The Boars head , I wasn’t very happy with the welcome I received, politely asked if there was a table available for two people I was told straight away that there was no tables available, so my husband and I said we would just have a drink , but the gentleman behind the bar was not forthcoming in serving us also , there was a two seater settee witch would have been most suitable for us to sit down on, we will never waste are time in ever going there again exceptionally rude staff .

Popped in a little early and the owners were very accommodating and processed our orders before the kitchen was open. We would of happily waited though as the standard of food and service was first class. An excellent experience and would certainly revisit.

Fabulous place to have a meal. Set in a beautiful Oxfordshire village. Staff Very friendly,did everything possible to make us all comfortable and welcome. The cleanest pub I think we have ever visited.

My first and last visit to this pub. Lovely pub, good food and pleasant service. However, there was a rude person behind the bar who did nothing to assist our visit. Pity as everything else was good. I will not come again.

Called for a drink before a wedding last Saturday. There was a vacant table for us to sit at but it needed glasses moving so we began to move them, when a lady with greyish tinted hair rushed out and shouted at us “that’s not how we do things around here, you lot have taken over my pub”. When we suggested she was being rude she told us to get out of her pub! Very upsetting and never experienced anything like this in our lives before. We would never go there again.

We visited the Boars Head for the 1st time to celebrate our anniversary and wanted to try somewhere new. Wow what a fabulous gem of a pub. We were made to feel very welcome, the pub was fresh, beautifully decorated with excellent layout as well as spotless. We had booked for dinner and decided to treat ourselves to the full works and were not disappointed, started with Camembert to share which was demolished, followed by homemade chicken, leek and ham pie with chunky chips and veg and sea bass fillets with veg and dauphinoise potatoes, again polished off and finally pudding of apple upside down tart with ice cream and an Eaton mess. To make evening complete we were treated to the ladies Morris dancers outside who were a delight to watch. This is a village owned pub and the couple who run and manage the pub were just superb along with the very polite and efficient waitresses. We will definitely be returning as it is so rare to find a comfortable pub, with excellent fresh homemade food that was well priced.

Had a fabulous meal here this evening. Everything was amazing. All the food was fresh and tasted divine. I had a steak with dauphinois potatoes and vegetables with pepper sauce. This was all cooked to perfection! Service was amazing, lovely, friendly staff. I will 100% be going back here. How lovely to go out for a meal and not be disappointed! FANTASTIC!

Once again we had a wonderful evening here.The food as usual was excellent, as was the service. I can't praise this establishment enough. I thoroughly recommend it.

I came for Sunday lunch. It was my first visit and I am afraid will be my last. I am astonished by the other reviews. The pub is very clean and quite pleasant inside with attentive staff but lacking any character. That would have been fine but the food....! I felt like I was eating food from a mass catering institution. Overcooked and under seasoned (if at all) vegetables and quite honestly food that my children still in their teens could have cooked better. The kitchen seems to have little idea of flavours and ingredients! Sorry.

This is my all time favourite place to eat the food is amazing the staff go that extra mile and we are always made very welcome and feel very privileged that the manager always goes out of her way to come over for a chat this is by far one of the best restaurants around.

We had the most fabulous evening after arriving late on a busy Friday, the staff were excellent... helpful but not pushy; the food was quite delicious and of course the extensive gin menu was a sight for sore eyes!! We cannot recommend this pub enough - they looked after us perfectly and were so generous with their hospitality - we only wish we lived nearer to visit more often.

We dropped into this village pub after visiting the local big house. The decor is modern clean and light. We were greeted warmly by the staff and directed to a table. The rich tomato soup was very tasty, prawn baked in a light sauce was delicious. Well served local beer. A full menu was on offer. Thus, strongly recommended.

A friend of ours who finds around the world recommended this charming establishment to us. We managed to squeeze into a time frame and had an early Sunday lunch. I should say that it's off the beaten track but always busy, so booking is advisable.

Spotlessly clean, with a magnificent menu, without reservation, we were greeted by the friendly landlord, who made us a space for lunch, even though the establishment was full, and mid-week too.

Superb Saturday night. The food was excellent, great quality, great range, I am gluten free and was well catered for. The service was brilliant, warm and friendly.Going again in a couple of weeks. A big thank you.
