We have given this coffee shop enough chances now. Having been in the hospitality trade we appreciate the difficulties with staff and keeping customers happy but we have run out of patience. The last couple of times we have been in people have been waiting a long time for everything and staff don't seem to have the correct skills for the job. Today we waited 30 mins for 2 coffees and when the next order that was made wasn't ours we left. A young couple left as our order was taken as they had obviously not had theirs taken. It was not overly busy but seemed in chaos. We are now in Costa and got served within 5 minutes with conversation.marmalade do make good coffee but make sure you have a lot of tolerance if you go here

Went for coffee, toasted sandwich and cake with someone else today. The coffee came out but had to ask twice where the food was. They said we’ve been busy, I said you serve takeaways first and yet we pay more to sit at a table. When the food eventually came, my coffee was cold, they offered to heat it up which I had BUT if they would only bring out the food with the drink, there’s plenty of staff on.

Have a couple of takeaway coffees here every week when working nearby. Good ambience, friendly staff, efficient service and good value coffee. Would like to see more cakes and pastries on display but understand this is not a patisserie or baker's

We’ve been to Marmalade a few times, we really like the coffee and the atmosphere. Unfortunately though today we had to wait 20 mins for two coffees after ordering. They weren’t particularly busy and there were several staff working so there really was no need for a 20 minute wait. Our coffee was brought to us (and it was lovely) but the staff didn’t acknowledge the wait at all. I would have written a much more positive review had the staff just apologised. Marmalade your cafe is lovely but today it was let down by your customer service.

A regular cycling stop off - Marmalade can get quite busy when a whole bunch of us turn up and the staff cope very well. Always clean and a friendly welcoming atmosphere.

Reviewed this when it opened originally and loved it then. I continue to come in very regularly and it’s absolutely my first port of call for coffee and cake (and sausage roll .. of which more later)Bit annoyed to see its service has been considered lax. It’s not the fastest, but it’s laid back, chilled-out style really is part of its charm, and it’s also part of the Wantage ambiance. Costa here isn’t super fast either. Although I watch my diet, one of their home made sausage rolls is a monthly treat for me. Absolutely delicious. I will continue to support this lovely, Oxford-vibe coffee shop above all the others in Wantage! (And there’s nought wrong with them either tbh!)

I always judge a place by how well it does the simple things... simple food can be notoriously difficult to do, viz Chefs when interviewing for a new job are often asked to make a simple omelette. We visited Marmalade for breakfast, fantastic coffee and I have to say the most perfect cheese and ham sourdough toastie! It was huge, fragrant and absolutely sublime. Well done Marmalade- simplicity rules!

Used to think this place was alright, despite the overpriced food and very slow service time. Today though the manager was extremely rude and created a hostile environment whilst I was waiting after lunch to decide on a cake and drink. Such a shame as I usually like to support local businesses but I would not recommend this spot to anyone now unless they want to be sneered at. Sort out your attitude as you’re chasing away customers!

Excellent coffee, excellent atmosphere and layout, and excellent toasted sandwiches although you need a big appetite to finish them. A terrific addition to Wantage since it’s opening.

This place has such great potential with lovely food and the coffee is excellent. However there seem to be loads of staff there who just spend their time chatting to their friends and don’t provide an efficient service. It’s so slow !

Probably the best coffee shop in Wantage. Friendly, efficient staff, good coffee. I've been disappointed by the limited selection of cakes and biscuits (for example - no biscotti or cantuccini), but otherwise very pleasant place to meet friends or pass the time

If you want to taste a really good cup of coffee, this is the place to go. Unlike the tasteless froth in a lot of coffee shop chains, this little independent produces an excellent coffee which you can enjoy with a choice of fresh cakes/pastries or freshly made snacks.

Great coffee, staff are nice, bloke who looks like he could be the manager/owner isn't very personable but is professional. Not the sort of thing that bothers me but the other staff make up for it. More importantly coffee is fantastic. Food is typically priced for Oxfordshire and made well. For those of you who think this place is "hipster" you're in for a shock when you do come across a hip place. If having a well finished/designed shop with quality products offends you stick to industry stifling blood suckers like Costa and greggs.

I’ve had coffee here before. Very good. But I thought I’d do iced tea today. It was hot. The cafe not the tea - though it would have been far more authentic with a heap more ice. But never mind. The spinach and lentil pastry was tasty and the atmosphere much nice than Costa. So if you’re visiting try here. They won’t win prizes for an extensive menu but what they do they do nicely. And it is .. a bit hip .. for Wantage anyway!

There are now lots of coffee shops in town. This one I feel is mediocre. The coffee is very nice, but it's really loud in there and you can hardly hear yourself think! Reasonable selection of cakes.

Had spotted this new coffee shop last time I was in Wantage but it was too busy to get a seat however today I got lucky for a lunchtime break. I really like the independent coffee-shop vibe Marmalade gives which is SO refreshing for Wantage. Whilst their food menu is a little small, (understandably with the size of the kitchen), the taste and the service absolutely make up for it. Their Chai latte is really delicious, I didn't want it to end and I really enjoyed my smashed avo + feta cheese on bread combo. They also offer dairy alternatives as well as gluten free without any hassle. Keep up the great work, hope to pop in next time I'm in Wantage!

Popped in today with my mum for a cuppa for a change from costa. This place is amazing the food and drink never seem to disappoint and the added bonus of happy staff is welcoming and refreshing. Nice veggie option in the form of a homemade sausage roll was definitely welcomed by the mothership. The cakes are all homemade too and although I didn’t sample one they did look tempting

Popped in for coffee and snack on way through Wantage... service friendly and efficient and food very good... we had the sausage roll which is unlike the catfood in pastry which normally masquerades as such... this is a big slice of delicious meaty goodness in flaky pastry... superb... the place had a slightly hipster vibe which we don't generally like but would definitely return.

Have been here a few times since moving into the area so felt it appropriate to leave a review. Staff are typically friendly and welcoming, and service prompt. Menu may be limited but the toasties are delicious, very reasonably priced and always leave you full! Hot drinks are well made, albeit sometimes a little cool to my liking. My partner and I often find ourselves returning here for lunch or a hot drink due to the consistency in their offer.

Popped in here for a hot drink on a cold afternoon. The interior is light and bright with mismatched vintage chairs and tables. The mood is relaxed and friendly. We had good coffee and tea, the latter brought in a good-sized pot, with plenty of milk. Cakes and toasties on offer looked good and smelled delicious, though we weren't in the market for food this time.

Re tried this place as an alternative to the local Costa. It's nice place and the coffee and chocolates that we had were fine if, if cool. Prices not cheap. Danish warmed in a microwave i think. Warm but all floppy. Attention to detail lacking: drinks served, Danish served some time later; I cleared the table as we left, no thanks, no 'Goodbye', completely blanked. I'll be going back to Costa, which is scruffier but there is 'attention to detail'.

We called in here as I’d never been and thought we’d try it out. We ordered two cheese scones with butter and two coffees and sat in the garden. Our very small scones arrived before the coffees, We thought as we buttered our not very cheesy cheese scones that the butter had a strange texture, the coffees were very small and not that hot. As we sat chattering I noticed on the butter wrapper, ‘use by 6/6/23’ The date of our visit being Monday 19th June!! My friend caught the attention of the waitress and told her we’d just eaten two weeks out of date butter, she just said ‘Oh sorry, I’ll tell the kitchen’ We sat for another 15 minutes half expecting maybe a further apology from the kitchen but nobody came near us, so we left having spent £12.30 on two small un-cheesy scones, stale butter and two small warm coffees. Obviously there won’t be a return visit.

Good to see the Fox back open, New manager/Chef is very welcoming. Food was really good, tasty hot and large portions. We had burgers and steak. Pub is kept much cleaner than previously, tables wipes and cleared quickly. We'll be back. We could see more staff were required before they really market the place again. It would benefit from a few smaller tables in the restaurant area.
