Food very good, service absolutely abysmal. We were not made welcome. Would not recommend. When I asked for two glasses of wine after the meal I was told to go to the bar.

Avoid - go to the Thai restaurant 100 down the road. It's not their fault - they're understaffed and can't keep up with the orders. Mine never came so I picked up and just went to the Thai place which I highly recommend.

Today lunch time was an impromptu visit to our routine point. The new decors is definitely sumptuous. So, covid-19, Ukraine-Russia war, flooding, etc., etc., just nice to know the Blue River Cafe is very much still here and standing. I had a Talisker and 'Ms Moneypenny' had a coke (she is driving). The young staff were very efficient. Can't wait to return to sample the cooking as I recall it has always been very high.

This restaurant at Thames Riviera Hotel is an absolute disaster! Booked for 16:30, but apparently, the kitchen's still hitting the snooze button until 17:00. Straight off the bat, misled and tossed into the bar instead of the restaurant – a rookie move. Ordered the carrot and coriander soup, expecting bread, but got a sad excuse for toast. It's mediocre at best, but where's the seasoning? Main course – lasagne. Sweet sauce, no mince meat – it's like a culinary crime scene. Now, the pricing – they're charging a premium for this rubbish! And don't even get me started on the menu; it's a disgrace. No options for those with dietary needs – intolerances, vegetarians, or vegans. Thames Riviera's restaurant is a kitchen nightmare that needs a rescue mission, ASAP!

I am a Coeliac - Gluten free food needed. If you or any of your party are as well, simply Don't go, there is no choice. My birthday meal with family. I am amazed that in this day & age this restaurant had only 1 single item that I could eat for dinner - SALAD.(tuna) I asked the waitress to check with the Chef if there were any dishes that could have the gluten omitted, she came back 10 mins later to ask if we were ready to order, She had completely forgotten that she had gone to ask the Chef the question and its not like it was remotely busy in the restaurant. She also couldn't tell me what part of the meal had the gluten in, no clue about the meal or no clue what Gluten was - not sure which, perhaps both. So after having wasted almost half an hour we finished our drinks and left to go to another restaurant. Normally I check the menu out before booking but in general there are always choices, here however I couldn't actually find the menu on the website. Perhaps that should have been a sign DONT GO, NOTHING FOR YOU. I will not be returning or recommending,

Great menu but could be better managed operationally. Despite booking a breakfast and meal inclusive for hotel stay, the restaurant appears to be a separate business from the hotel/ maybe same owner. The back and forth to confirm from hotel if you were to be served breakfast or or meals is totally what you don’t want your customers to know or see. You are practically kept waiting while they go and check what breakfast or what dinner you can have.

if you want to spend £13 on a gin&tonic, this is the place to go! waste your well-earned money in a musty smelling restaurant that was supposed to be referbished, closed for 3 years yet looks exactly the same as it was before. the menu consists of basic pub food that had no appeal whatsoever. no atmosphere and no life, what a disappointment after a loyal customer from the previous years of this restaurant.

We live locally and always used to go to the Blue River cafe. In the past it has been a great place to go although it has seen some low times. We eagerly awaited the reopening but as a local it has been hugely underwhelming. In the lead-up to Christmas there was a chalk board outside on the side of the path saying 'We are Open'. It seems a great shame after a full refurb not to have repaired the lower half of the wall at the front entrance to the hotel. There were no leaflets through local's doors offering discounts to residents, no big splash outside. Several people we know, including our son, have visited and been one of two tables taken in the restaurant. My husband and I popped in to take a look this evening at about 7.45 and there was no one in the restaurant. The bar staff showed little initiative. They asked 'can I help you', when wouldn't 'what can I get you' be a more normal question in a bar? We will try it because it's local but we'll need to get up a big party because there was no atmosphere at all, the vibe was odd and there was a vacuum cleaner propped up behind the reception desk. A very unwelcoming welcome awaits those who enter. I wanted to email but no website STILL, four months after opening.

We had heard that the hotel and bar had re-opened. It's in a great position next to Maidenhead Bridge overlooking the Thames. Just moved to Maidenhead, very near to the Blue River Cafe. My girlfriend and I went there on a Friday evening and had the most fab fish and chip meal, one of the BEST I have ever had. Alex was working by himself and attended to the drinkers in the side area, dealt with the bar and those of us in the restaurant area. He was rushing around the whole time and was very friendly. The next evening we decided to go there again and really enjoyed a burger and salmon meals (she took half of my Salmon as she liked it so much!). The crushed herb potato was really nice as well. Again, really great food and all credit to the chef as we were very impressed. Shame that the Covid issue has affected places like this and it has been packed in the past on the same days of the week and times we visited. It is quite a big place with a good vibe and deserves more people to visit it but they are lacking staff now due to Covid and may not be able to cope if a sudden rush of people suddenly turn up so, bear that in mind people and book in advance to give them a chance to give you the meal options and service you require. We will certainly be going there again and it is only 5 minutes walk away which is very handy. The website menu needs to be updated though as some of the options may not be available in these troubled times with less people turning up and they can't stock everything as a result just in case. Maybe they can just put the paper menu options on there for now which are available at the place. I wish I had taken some pictures of our meals as they looked great. Will do so next time!

I came down late in the afternoon to have a drink with the hubby. Had not been in since the reopen and thought wow they have taken a lot of care making it covid secure. That is the only positive thing I can say. There was no track and trace sign in There was no one to explain the procedure Tables had not been cleared for a while, to her credit we did get sat at a table which she did wipe down Drinks arrived, but the crips did not, ordered another drink these did not arrive. Hard to track down any staff. Seems there was no manager on Saturday and only two staff who could not cope. They need to not sit people if they can't serve people. That is not for the customer to judge. It is a shame as we live just down the street but never ever again. And we encouraged another table to leave who had been sat in the next cubicle to go and they had not been served at all after 20 mins

Having spent the evening in Windsor for my sons 10th birthday we rushed back early for our reservation. The restaurant was closed, the bar staff informed us unapologetically that the chef had gone home 3 hours before as he hadn't had anyone in. Looking at the "restaurant" I should have been relieved, it was old, tired and dirty" It gave me no confidence that the food would have been prepared under any standards of hygiene. Luckily we found a jewel in Maidenhead "The Emporer of India where we had the best meal of our lives. Would not recommend this restaurant. Definitely would not reserve again!

It took 20 minutes from being seated before somebody came to take our order (and even then we had to call himover), then another 40 minutes for our drinks to be brought over. 2/4 of the drinks were incorrect - white wine instead of red, and a lemonade instead of an IPA. We took the two drinks that we had ordered and asked for the other two to be amended. The waiter came back and showed us the order he had written down, which was incorrect. We argued this but in the end gave up and accepted the incorrect drinks. In fairness to the waiter he seemed to be the only member of staff around. Perhaps in future the restaurant should consider limiting the number of people they allow in if they are understaffed. We saw three groups walk out because they were similarly fed up.

Had a lunch in the garden next to the Thames. We were seated in the no smoking area, but the staff took a blind eye to those in the same area smoking. The waiter was friendly enough, but the waitress couldn’t have been contemptuous of us, no mask was worn and her gloves were broken. Had to wait ages for the bill to be brought over, and we didn’t even get a thank you. Service was slow despite not many diners, but the food was of a good quality, albeit within a very very limited choice. Perhaps a bit on the pricy side.

My wife and I visited The Blue River Cafe on 19th July - our first meal out since the beginning of lockdown.I gave a very negative review of this place in 2017 (3BC). Yes, the menu was pretty restricted and not exactly gourmet, partly because of Covid but it was fine. We had some kind of very exotic mixed grill and it was absolutely delicious. What's more, they are doing everything they can to keep their customers safe. All the staff have masks and the cutlery is all sanitised and comes wrapped individually. They have a lovely veranda overlooking The Thames and have separated the tables using clear plastic panels and it actually make it better - because you can't hear the other diners so much!I have given this place good reviews and bad reviews. I just hope they keep up the good work this time and I wish them all well.

I personally had the Lamb Shoulder which was cooked to perfection and others on the table has Chicken Fajita which was full of flavour and looked really nice, and good presentation. The only thing that I would say we were let down by was the lack of service by the waiting staff who didn't really look after us as we would have liked. It is a shame that the good food is let down by the staff who all looked like they would rather be somewhere else. Let me start by saying that I moved to mAidenhead in December 2003 and the BRC was one of the main reasons for choosing where in the town to live. So loved it, we would go almost weekly. In 2006 we had the family there for dinner the night before our wedding- they catered for 12 allowing us to choose our own dishes and everyone loved it.It used to be decorated every year and I had no hesitation suggesting it as a place to stay for visitors. Now it is a slum. At best, it’s a place to watch football. It has gone to rack and ruin. The food is terrible, the staff are sullen and it is so sad that this prime spot on the river is now somewhere I don’t even want to have a glass of wine on a summer day let alone a meal. Management, you have destroyed a gem over years of neglect.

More time wasting as the waiter went to check if the full menu would be available. We all decided enough was enough and booked another restaurant. We decided to visit the Blue River Cafe during a cold winter walk along the Jubilee River at Dorney and Maidenhead. The hotel building from the front is not much to entice you in but once inside, the welcome was warm as we made our way to the bar, initially to order a warm drink. However, with the bar being just a few paces from the restaurant area where there was a fine Sunday roast buffet being served, the temptation was too much. Wonderfully cooked food, moist and tasty, all served with a smile and pleasant chat from the staff. Hospitality wonderful too from the restaurant manager, an oriental lady called One, who ensured we were comfortable and satisfied. Great carvery of Turkey or Beef for just £12.95. Puddings were delicious at about £6. Casually dressed diners welcome. Great attentive staff. I fully recommend a visit.

I went to get the number and left my mother in law to keep the turn. The number on table was cut off and it was hand written. So when I came back to her she said we have to wait in the que as this is the “English Way”!! She was extremely rude and disrespectful. We went back to the table. My husband went to place the order and gave the table number 309-as shown below- the same lady disrespectfully claimed there is no table with that number!! I would expect the “English Way” of staff members is, at least, to know their business well and their table’s number!! She shouldnt be dealing with customers, or perhaps she should be sent to the USA to learn business management and customer service in order to be able to represent the “English Way” of service way much better. It’s a real shame to see somewhere with great potential be run so poorly. The interior is very dated and not at all cosy or welcoming. The staff and service are awful, seemingly oblivious to the queue of 10 people while they prioritise cleaning glasses. The bar also enforces a single file queue system while waiting which felt a little strange. The food was fine for what it was, burger and chips is hard to do too wrong. Thought we would give this place another go, but we should have looked at the recent reviews. The place should be booming in the location it is in but unfortunately it is soulless and unwelcoming. The food is basic and 3 of the main meals were just passable. The fourth however was not, the duck came virtually uncooked so we sent it back and it was returned charred to a solid lump. I am afraid this place is consistently poor and needs a complete revamp, the neighbouring restaurants on the river, whilst more expensive are an order of magnitude better.

Popped in on Sunday as passing. We hadn't booked (they had 150 booked in for carvery) but we ate in the bar. The manager welcomed us in such a friendly and welcoming manner that to be honest I was a little shocked. The amount of bars/restaurants I have visited and been completely ignored in are countless. He seemed genuinely pleased to see us. He took time to explain the Sunday menu and offer advice on wine. We didn't have the carvery but what we did have (2 mains and a good bottle of wine) for £40 was very good. Will definitely be back.

Went for lunch and was shown straight to our table. However, we then waited 15 minutes for someone to take our order. Our drinks arrived shortly after but then another long wait for our food, which was quite tasty. The restaurant was quite chilly which really spoilt our visit. Not sure if I would eat there again.

At £9.95 for 2 courses and £12.95 for 3 courses this represented a great value lunch. 14 friends met and everyone enjoyed all the dishes. A good Carvery and lovely fresh vegetables to go with the turkey pork or beef. Service was friendly and efficient for a large group. A nice setting overlooking the river. The live piano added an extra touch. Highly recommended.

Went here with a group of friends for a Christmas meal and needless to say, i was disappointed. The meal was £35 a head, excluding drinks and I was presented with lukewarm, hardly tasty food which I could’ve had at another place for a lot less money. The mini beef wellington I had was dry and cold, the bacon wrapped turkey was lukewarm and was accompanied by crunchy spouts and tasteless gravy. I rate the place average because I did leave feeling full, and the almond cake I had for desert was pleasant, the staff were also very accommodating and helpful, so I can’t fault them there.

Not been in the cafe for years and was pleasantly surprised. Food was good, tribute act was excellent, and all in all a very good evening. Well worth a visit.

Good location, average service, poor quality of food: real pity given the potential. Nice terrace for drinks.

Never been disappointed with the excellent service by the staff of this restaurant/pub especially from the manager Carl everytime we go. The food at the carvery was excellent served with a smile by Konrad. Food fresh, plentiful and such good value for money.

Have been supporting this venue for years but they continue to provide poor service...just this week (Thursday) ordered 2 Burgers and was told it was £20...when I said it was Burger Club night and was buy 1 get one free...bar staff and manager said that was only a Friday night...so I pointed to the big poster on the wall which clearly advertises it is both Thursday and Friday...having eventually accepted that - they then stated the cost would be £12 - when I challenged why £12 and not £10 they did not know but that is what the till was showing - even though the Menu was showing both burgers at £10 each. They eventually (from behind the bar) produced a seperate Burger Club menu which showed different prices to the main menu...more expensive...Now if that is not poor! I cancelled my order and went to another bar down the road and ate there. We normally go into the Blue at least a couple of times a week...however they cannot expect support if they keep letting customers down.

Our first impressions were that the place was large and empty, then we had sat down in the wonderfully comfortable chairs. We were not initially impressed with the menu, but the food, what it arrived, was delicious. We will definitely revisit and can definitely recommend it.

The location was great with lovely views of the river Thames. There was plenty of seating inside including near the windows and lots of outdoor seating with great views too. The menu had a good choice and was reasonably priced and the food was tasty. Would definitely recommend.

Sunday Carvery. We had calamari for starter which was lovely. But the carvery was excellent. We were served by Chef Konnor who was very friendly and beef and vegetable were fresh. All tasted great and hugh yorkshire pud. Gavvy was tasty.

Considering we were there on a Saturday and it wasn't massively busy, the service was awful. It felt like there weren't enough staff, but there did seem to be a number of them around at various points. There was a problem with the printer between the bar and kitchen, but they just seemed to be clueless of an efficient way to get round this - at one point all the bar staff just disappeared for about 5 minutes, regardless of the fact that there were around six people waiting. It took some of us so long to order that others already had their food, but then the rest took a very long time to come out. The bloomer bread seemed more like a loaf of Hovis to be honest -definitely not what I was expecting. Bit of a shame as it seemed quite nice, just totally disorganised!

this place when it first opened was brilliant. it has gone down hill rapidly. the owner have been trying to develop it for flats for years and consequently have invested nothing in the restaurant. the food tries to be upmarket but the ingredients are so cheap and bland. the place feels dirty inside and the staff are slow and seem highly demotivated. all round depressing and very average experience. the one good thing I can say is the garden is very nice and being on the river it's a great place to have a drink in the summer. avoid the rest of the time and definitely don't eat there. oh and don't get me started on the hotel above

Very nice hotel restaurant and bar, we ate on the river side terrace, the food was good, not fancy but well cooked and well presented. The service was friendly and and nothing was rushed, also the prices were reasonable. There is also a large riverside garden where you can relax and enjoy a drink. We have eaten the Sunday lunch buffet and this was also very good...Recommended..

I was surprised when I called sheepishly at 12 wanting a table at 1.30. I remember this place from about 10 years ago when it would have been too busy. No problem they could fit us in. Again when we came to park I thought... this will be tricky as always used to be heaving on a nice day... no problem, strait in. We wanted to sit on the little balcony overlooking the river and were told we could sit there but there would be no table service. I think there may have been 3 other tables in the restaurant. Bank holiday Monday I was very surprised. The food was distinctly average and aspects of it that made me question how freshly everything had been cooked... or perhaps re-heated?

Sitting right on the River Thames, this venue should have been a beautiful setting for a lovely meal. Unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. We have been here several times previously and enjoyed it, but quite a while ago. The arms of chairs in the bar were filthy dirty and there was chewing gum stuck to the bar. There was also gum on the floor, which my wife was unfortunate enough to step in and it took an age to remove it. Moving outside, the tables could do with a good clean and there was broken glass in the seating area. With a young toddler we had to be extra vigilant to avoid a nasty accident. The food was ok, but was served intermittently and parts were cold, except for a ramekin of baked beans in the toddler meal that was red hot and nearly burnt his mouth. The one saving grace was that they accepted the taste card, which saved 50% on the cost of the meals. I don’t think we will use this venue again in a hurry. Sad, as the setting is beautiful

well having read some of the more negative reviews for the hotel, i wasn’t sure what to expect .. however, the negative reviews are just nothing we experienced, to the contrary - all the staff were absolutely brilliant. on hand to attend to matters, Anneleise worked tirelessly and ensured our 2 night stay was totally spot. the rooms are warm and cost, clean -serviced in the day there’s a cosy feel and whilst we only had the breakfast as we were in windsor to visits friends, the food was plentiful it is a great position for anywhere you need to be in than that area, not far from the motorway and not on busy roads would we go back - yes, for the value for money and staff friendless it’s 5/5 from us 👍

This is more of a heads up for people, friends of ours are getting married there this week, we booked a room with some wedding code rubbish they told us to use. If you’re getting married here don’t give your guests the code! It’s a complete joke we’re unable to attend due to the children being ill, the code is basically a way for them to make money as it’s a non refundable rate! 1: it makes the rooms cost more then normal 2: if you book normally you can cancel up to 4pm the day before! As I’ve just found out they’ve took £162 out of my account for a room I’m not even going to stay in nor am I able to attend! Steer clear of this place, their customer service team couldn’t give a toss they just take your money!

“Fish” is mainly batter. The fish that is provided has seen better days although I have had worse. The carbonated drinks are coloured water, although they did rectify this when asked.
