I had been wanting to visit this place for a long time, but the min a went in a got horrible attention. The front of house (blond lady tacking the orders) was so rude, that I didn’t even bother stay. I’m not going to sit and eat in a place with incredible rude staff.

Initially looking for a quiet thinking &study spot .......food and atmosphere changed my mind 😜..will be going back

I like it here, it's not flash and has a variety of snacks and light meals as well as coffees. I've been coming here for 30 years and it's the original coffee house in Newcastle (as far as I'm aware). It predates the chain places and it's rustic theming isn't all show, if you're near by it's worth a look 👍

had my first stottie here and it was delicious. place was packed to the brim but was a lovely place to just sit and relax before the day. staff were lovely and food and pricing was bang on.

A great place for breakfast and brunch. Eat in or take away. Large selection of dishes to choose from. Sandwiches, salads, wraps, cakes, scones, full breakfast, coffees teas juices etc etc. Industrial decoration and open kitchen. Very central location and a really nice change from national chains.

Such a great hidden gem! Having walked past this many times we went in and were very pleased with how it turned out. We got two breakfast sandwiches both were made efficiently and also tastily. Their drinks are also great. Will definitely come back here again.

Talk about hiding in plain sight! What a gem! Fab breakfast. It was busy, and you end up sharing tables, which was great because people are chatty! Great service. Staff are lovely. Highly recommended! Take your tribe!

it was a pleasant place to dine. tables and chairs are a bit crowded but it's nothing too overwhelming. we we're positioned in front of a booth so the problem was noticeable when the diners seated there needed to get up. the food was fine. plenty enough to get me full and the staff was pleasant. i'd probably just say it's more of a breakfast or lunch place. try em out if you're a bit early.

Went here after reading the great reviews and wasn't disappointed. Friendly and polite staff and was pretty full in there mid-morning, but they had it all under control. Excellent quality food and portions for the price and will return.

Heerlijk echt Engels ontbijt en daarbijhorend restaurant. Toen wij er waren was het helemaal vol. Serveerster zei ons nog even te wachten. Toen er een tafel voor 6 vrijkwam konden we plaatsnemen. Beginnen met een goede mok koffie. Ontbijt was heerlijk!

Blake's never disappoints, always fast fresh and tasty. Staff always on it too, good stuff.

What an amazing cafè/restaurant. Visited Blakes on the 26th of December. The place was buzzing, full of customers enjoying true home cooked food. My wife ordered the full monty breakfast, and I ordered the breakfast bap. OMG, both looked amazing, I enjoyed what I ordered so much, I could've ordered a second one. The food was cooked to perfection. Anyone passing through and feeling a bit hungry, then Blakes is the place. As we left, we thanked the gentleman behind the counter. Very nice cafe in the city centre. Been a good couple of times and it’s always given me sweet little diner vibes. Pretty standard cafe scran (can recommend the pancakes and the soup of the day) but all done to a consistent standard, decent coffee and good vibes overall though I was not blown away by the stottie bread

I’ll precursor this by saying I live in Spain. Although it was good to see they served my favourite coffee (Cortado) it was poor in comparison to a ANY Cortado I can get back home. Why is this, why can’t the Brits do a decent coffee? Also, it was £2,90 (€3,40) in comparison to a €1,60 drink in Spain.

Terrible breakfast served very quickly so clearly all kept in bain maries or warming drawers including the eggs which were overcooked with rock hard yolks. Soggy toast, slimey sausages, chewy bacon. Coffee and as luke warm and weak.

No communication about what to do when you get in. Stood waiting for ten minutes not knowing what to do. Went and sat at a free table then we were told off and told to queue which again was not communicated to us. A very confusing experience and very poor customer service.

Amazing little find for breakfast. Staff very pleasant and accommodating as there was a large group of us. Environment was very clean and comfortable, with a friendly atmosphere. Service was fast and efficient, food excellent. Well worth a visit and will definitely return to try more of the extensive menu.

I've been going to Blakes for over 30 years. I always visit when visiting Newcastle. People reading this may recollect what Blakes was like. Well, aside from the music, it has deteriorated badly in service and food. I ordered hot chocolate and scrambled eggs on toast. You'd think you couldn't go wrong with such, as I've been ordering that for years. Hot chocolate was luke warm and bland - nothing like it used to be - so asked to them to warm it up. They made me a fresh on and brought it to my table. Unfortunately, he couldn't resist a dig - "Here's your super hot hot chocolate". I pointed out it was simply the right temperature. Now I wished I'd taken a picture of the scrambled egg. I was a peculiar stringy consistency, lacking in usual richness. I suspect they've bought it dried and you just mix it with water. Either way, very disappointing. I mentioned my disappointment to the gentlemen who'd brought me hot chocolate. He replied: "Sorry that you were not happy". Now you know when somebody is having a dig? He wasn't sorry at all; he was irritated that I had the cheek to complain. You would never have had that attitude from the lovely staff in the past. Basically, Blakes is trading on memories. Problem is that people remember how good Blakes was

As a solo lady traveller with her own very similar business, I felt very at home in Blakes - excellent front of house staff, aware of where I sat when i came in; friendly service; and the coffee and Cobb salad bowl I ordered were excellent. As a regular visitor to Newcastle,I will definitely come again!

Been three times, each time never had anything because they can’t serve porridge as they’re too busy. If this is the case. Remove it from the menu, don’t offer something you can never do. It’s pointless.

Went to Blake’s with my 5 kids 4 of them came out being sick ordered a full English breakfast and got got chicken and chips with beans and it was pink

Our first time in Newcastle so after a bit of research on the train we decided on Blake's. A good decision, all was good. The biggest shock came when we left Blake's. Newcastle, what have you done to yourself. Sadly, we will never return.

Service very good I ordered halloumi breakfast, egge salmon and pancakes unfortunately aren’t good.

The staff here is wonderful, the coffee is delightful, and they serve decent food. It's a classic spot in Newcastle. However, the place could use a makeover. The men's restroom is outdated, very small, and in need of renovation to meet modern standards. The lack of proper ventilation leaves the place smelling like a chip pan, and the interior tends to be uncomfortably warm and stuffy. Left smelling of grease 🤢

Food was poor, asked for bacon and sausage and got an egg with it! Yuk Hot chocolate was luke warm so basically a warm chocolate. Receipt machine in store broke Store looks nice but not worth the price

We had a breakfast stotty and pancakes with a coffee. Quick service and very reasonable price. Plenty on offer for selection. Bit of a squeeze on the seating. Toilets a bit outdated and grubby.

Grey street Blake's is super! We entered as we were hungry and we couldn't do it any better. We ordered at the counter given a table number and we were served first coffee and after that, the breakfast which was really nice. The restaurant was full and everyone looked happy. We paid £22.60 for a full English breakfast with one bacon, one sausage, fried egg, mushroom, baked beans, tomato and bread with an oat milk cappuccino.

Lovely cup of tea and great selection of buns and cakes definitely worth a visit for a nice stop off after looking round the city

Had scrambled eggs with toast, bacon and grilled tomato. Eggs were tasteless and possibly very watered down with milk, overall quality very poor. The 1 half of a tomato was the nicest thing on the plate.

Food was good but it Took all most an hour to get to us , now it was Sunday but we all had our food at different times so we all dident eat together , place was busy so I get it but that's a serious wait for 7 fry s some beans and eggs and some pancakes, also what's the story with the toilet s ?? There like something from trainspotting doesn't match the rest of the place at all

Visited here today with friends for a late breakfast, ordered stottie sandwich’s or so we though, we where given just bread buns? & a full Monty breakfast with brown bread for toast but it doesn’t state this on the menu, coffee was alright though! Overall very disappointed as I’ve heard good things about the place!

Had a lovely bacon & mushroom stottie here, the bacon was generous and high quality. Serving staff were friendly and the cafe itself is quirky. Coffee was good too and I am picky about coffee.

Been looking for a place that does salmon eggs Benedict and this place popped up in my search, so I thought I'd give it a try; the staff were friendly, the food was great (poached eggs were perfect - beautiful and runny) - only thing was that the place was pretty busy and the level of noise was a tad overwhelming. Obviously, I wouldn't say that this is the place's fault and it definately won't stop me from coming back!

Very reasonable prices for brunch and breakfast food. Good service and very busy. Bathroom is incredibly small. The eggs Benedict could have done with a little bit more flair but overall it was fine.

All day breakfast is good, but not as good as Sainsburies (which is much better value). The staff a great and the location is superb.

Visited here for lunch as we had read such good reviews , but we were sadly disappointed. Had a toasted sandwich & avocado & poached eggs on toast. Wasn't anything special , & teapot was chipped. Before leaving I witnessed a member of staff, behind the counter, blow his nose into a tissue, observe the contents before disposing it in the bin, then without washing his hands, continued to serve customers!! Never will I eat here again.

Had the egg benedict and an Americano. Delicious food and a chilled environment. The Barista with the beard was consistently polite to all customers. I love coming here for breakfast.

2nd visit of weekend. Great food, salmon egges, avocado , poached eggs toast , husband had a stottie, all delicious. Went away with sandwiches, for our journey back home. Definitely recommend a visit

Dear me. Smashed avocado on toast with eggs turned out to be totally smooth avocado blended to within an inch of its life. Smashed avocado is meant to be chunky. No seasoning, no lemon, no chilli, no salt or pepper. Bland and goopy. The scrambled egg was likewise bland and unseasoned. The Americano coffee was disgusting, tasteless and watery. Should have just gone to Spoons! The food is way nicer.

Food was meh. Dry and not very exciting. Customer service was good and good atmosphere. Not the comfiest seating and the toilets were horrible! Don’t recommend!!!!

We visited Blake's whilst on holiday and came back for a second go. The breakfast on both occasions was fantastic and the coffee was excellent too. Service was prompt and friendly and the place had a nice atmosphere. Prices were reasonable for the quality.

Bustling cafe/bar with great food at great prices. I popped in for a quick lunchbreak, read two chapters of a book while I ate a delicious toasted bagel. Definitely worth a visit if you need lunch while you’re at work. The staff were lovely too.

Following a discussion between the counter and kitchen staff, suggestions were made and the food was ordered. While I enjoyed the food at the time, a few hours later I started experiencing symptoms of being glutened; this would happen due to cross-contamination (shared appliances or utensils, hands not being washed) or a misreading of ingredients during the food prep. I was extremely ill, which led to plans being cancelled due to needing time to recover. I contacted Blake's the next day regarding this experience and received a response stating they would reply as soon as possible. A week has since passed with no further update. Due to this experience, I cannot recommend Blake's to anyone with coeliac disease or on a gluten-free diet, nor will I be returning in the future.

Just a bloody lovely independent place, Staff are immense. Food is also wonderful. Worth the walk up the hill. Thanks for such a fantastic experience. 🙏🏼

It has been a long time since I've been to Blakes and they continue to deliver. Breakfast and service was great. I won't leave it as long next time!

We visited Newcastle for the first time and was not sure where to go for breakfast. We found Blake’s online and decided to try it. Both our breakfasts arrived really quick and the setting was lovely. It felt really homely and relaxed to enjoy your breakfast. Thank you- we will be back soon :)

Visited this cafe yesterday and it has gone down in my estimation (last visited several years ago). Music was at a suitable level, coffee was decent but the scones were stale and definitely not made that morning. I suppise I should have realised when the staff offered to warm them through. It was a big disappointment but there are lots more independent coffee shops we can visit when next in Newcastle.

Always love visiting. Nice staff, nice food, also good for a fresh roll or sandwich to eat there or takeaway. My go-to when I'm in Newcastle.

Spot of Brunch to pick us up after a heavy night. Lovely breakfast Bap, soft bun, well cooked Sausage, Bacon and Egg. Nice Mocha as well. Place was heaving, but always seems to be.

A bit average, really. The attitude of the staff wasn't great; they didn't clean table properly & the absence of polite courtesy. Food ok ish, average.
