Unfortunately ive had to change my below review since a change in management. Everything is not quite as it was and its genuinely disappointing. Used to visit multiple times a week, now i just dont bother :( I go here regularly and love it. The breakfasts are mega and even a salad leaves me stuffed! I also always get a slice of cake to take home :)

We have loved cafe One20 for a long time. My children have worked their way through the entire cake selection on offer and declared every one to be a triumph! But what has happened recently? Today I visited with my son and found a tiny selection of cakes and none of our old favourites! No peanut butter and raspberry slice! No chocolate mint traybake! The bounty bar slice which I settled for was poor to say the least, sludgy and soft and cheap tasting. The sponge cake which my son went for was dry and tasteless. I'd love to ask the owner if she's changed suppliers as the quality and selection of cakes today was a world away from what we've grown to expect.

First and last visit to this cafe. Called in for full English breakfast and left food and cups of tea on table barely touched. We could see on the menu that the full English breakfast included scrambled eggs but as I don't like it and eggs are my favourite part of the breakfast, i asked when ordering at the counter if they could be cooked a different way. The female serving us abruptly told us that it's scrambled egg only. I have always found most cafes and restaurants would try to accommodate their customers preferences so I found her inflexible attitude quite rude and off putting . I decided to opt for having just a cup of tea. My partner ordered the full breakfast as he was really hungry at the time. He started eating this when it arrived but left the whole lot after a couple of mouthfuls. He said the sausages were cooked but cold, the mushrooms were not fresh and were like the tinned variety, the bacon was also light pink and appeared undercooked. I have just read the managers response to one of the other negative reviews below and in the comments she's explained they don't have a frying pan and the sausages are microwaved! A cafe that serves full English breakfasts but doesn't possess a frying pan?? Very odd. I'd love to say that at least the cup of tea was nice but we left that too, it wasn't hot and was completely tasteless like they'd used very cheap tea bags. Although it's good to try somewhere new, I would not go here again, there are some great places nearby to have a hot breakfast cooked really well with all varieties of eggs, so we will be returning to one of them instead and did do after we abandoned our food here.

After coming here previously and receiving excellent customer service and food, me and a friend decided to pop in for some breakfast. I asked if they could make the bacon and sausages well done - practically cremated were the words i used, knowing that some places cook them in a way that makes it diffcult to make it crispy. I was told that would be fine by the lovely woman on the till and so ordered a full english (if they had said no i would have picked something else). After leaving a tip for how understanding she was about my fussy order, i was extremely disappointed by what was placed in front of me. Me and my friend got the same breakfast - it was practically identical, bacon and sausages included. I sent it back with an apology thinking there must have been a mistake - reminding them that it needed to be extra well done. The guy that brought the food agreed with me that it wasnt at all well done and took it back to be followed back out 2 minutes later with what looked like the exact same plate of food that hadnt been touched. I do not like complaining about food but when i specifically asked if it was possible i wasnt sure where the mix up was this time. I personally felt too embarrassed to go back up but my friend did and was unfortunately greeted by a stubborn woman in the food prep area who was argumentative about taking it back - saying that it would just go hard (im aware of what i was asking for, well done bacon is hard not soft which was the point i was making). The other staff seemed embarrassed and questioned why it couldnt be done - including the poor woman who had originally served me and was now being shown up by another member of staff. She eventually took back the plate and my friend was followed back to the table no later than 1 minute afterwards, with the same plate of food claiming that was the best she could do. Absolutely not good enough. Will not be returning to this cafe, and i advise if there is anyone with special dietary requests that they give this place a miss. A real shame to have one member of staff let the rest of the business down.

I only had a cappuccino but it tasted very gritty. A bit less beans and it wouldve been nice. The toilets are clean but the lock in the gents is held shut by a single Philips head screw. Also, there's a window crossing from the females to the males bathroom and you can hear the other person. Pros, the atmosphere is nice and it's quiet. A little out of the way but otherwise nice. I can't speak for the food as I haven't tried any but it seems priced about the same as everywhere else.

This had been recommended as a better spot for coffee than the very good Wild Trapeze over the road. Sadly, it wasn't. My flat white wasn't a flat white at all, lucky the wonderful texture of the real thing. Not bad, by any means, and better than a chain, but way short of Wild Trapeze or the excellent Pink Lane Coffee in town, for coffee at least. Café One20 is literally just down the end of our street, and is a lovely establishment. All the staff are uniformly friendly and welcoming. Although we normally only have coffee or soft drinks with cakes, on the occasions we have something more substantial it is always very tasty and they are generous portions. The one minor criticism I have is of the new metal seats following the recent revamp, which we find rather unyielding and uncomfortable. Not conducive to a lengthy stay! However there is more comfortable seating available (when it hasn't already been nabbed!).

i used to love this place, great portions and quality until the last few months. not sure why or if is coincides with the new cook? the last 3 or four times i've been, I've waited a long time for food, and when it arrived it has been cold. this was unheard of before! i used to have work meetings here, met up with friends and encouraged other to go. now i hardly go at all, as asking them to heat up my food several times is just too much!breakfast was served cold on one occasion, I've had panninis - chicken - cold, and Bacon brie and cranberry which used to be my favourite, now comes with cold and fatty bacon!it's a shame, as this is a nice setting, great location and a family run place. How anyone could diss this place. Where café's are concerned in Newcastle, there are some real gems and Café One20 is easily one of them. Our experience here is always a shining example of how a café (or any hospitality business) should be ran, a friendly welcome, prompt and efficient service and consistently great products. Ask for a Chi Latté, it'll make your taste buds melt. The traditional breakfasts are fit for a god and the coffee is for real coffee lovers, a robustly dark roast with a nutty highlight. Panini's are always a favourite of mine, packed full of Italian flavours like mozzarella, pesto and sun dried tomato to name a few. My wife loves the salmon and cream cheese bagel, tasty and filling. We never find the price to be anything other than reasonable, it's not a "value" café offering a cheap eat and a cup of mud like some I can think of, the prices here accurately reflect the quality of the food/coffee and the standard of service. For a spot of lunch and coffee, our bill doesn't usually amount to anything over £12, spot on.

Come here on a regular basis and forever recommending to friends and family. My only criticism could be that there is too much choice! (Not that it's a bad thing) I always end up sat looking through the menu for the first five minutes and end up with the same thing, a spicy bbq tuna panini (which tastes amazing) and a latte. If you like good coffee then I recommend trying one from cafe one20, often end up getting a coffee with my food and then another to take away with me. Staff have always been welcoming and friendly. The venue itself is cozy, clean and newly refurbished. Depending when you go it can have that hipster buzz that several places in Heaton do and which I personally love. A lot of people mentioning that the food is not cheap I would urge you not to let this put you off as the portion sizes and quality make it worth paying what is only marginally extra and still cheaper when compared to other local venues and it tastes better than some places that charge more! Although there are a few negative reviews on here, I've probably been on at least 10 or more occasions, at both busy and quiet times and have personally, been yet to have a poor experience. Definitely one of those don't knock it until you've tried it venues.

We ordered a sandwich and panini, both of which were large and incredibly tasty, and came with side salad. Sadly we didn't have room for one of the enormous scones from the cabinet!I ordered a cherry flavoured latte and jokingly said to my other half I wanted marshmallows on the side - when my drink arrived it was very yummy and with marshmallows! :)There's a lot of seating which is great for groups, but I felt I had to swap seats because I was in a narrow walkway - that said it didn'T feel like you were sat too close to other people. I was surprised to find that there were so many nice places to eat in this area of Newcastle, but there is no shortage around here apparently. The café One20 was a great place, but the quality of the food is let down by the restricted cooking facilities. It seems to be all done by microwave and this does make the quality and taste somewhat inferior. Enjoyed the atmosphere, tray bakes are great, to make it excellent they need to scrap the microwaves and have proper cooking facilities installed.

Came here for a breakfast, I had the bagel which was nice with plenty of filling and at a decent price. My husband had a full English, the portion was plenty however we noticed there was no frying pan sizzling or smell of bacon in the air. When the breakfast arrived the bacon was very soft and so was the sausage and almost looked undercooked. We noticed the 4 microwaves and realised that everything on the menu must be cooked in these microwaves. Considering this street has a few good cafes I won't be coming back here as I cant see how anything can taste nice when it is just warmed up in a microwave.

A great little cafe that offers something a little different to Heaton Road's other breakfast places. It's reasonably priced, the staff are lovely, the sandwiches are fab and there's a wonderful selection of home-made cakes and sundries. The breakfasts could be better - they're mostly pre-cooked, with powdered eggs and tinned mushrooms etc - but hey, they're edible and again reasonably priced. The interior decor is modern and pleasant, with Sky News on flat screen TVs and magazine racks on the walls. Strongly recommended.

Up-raw, I arrived for one of cafe one twentys all day breakfast to be Rudely informed that had "ran out of eggs".... So they may have ran out of eggs however they could have offered a suitable alternative?I settled for a chi-latte... It was nothing special, staff seemed friendly with the acceptation of a rude lady on the till.

After having driven past for over a year we decided to pop in for a coffee and cake. Not disappointed. Lovely cream scone and cinnamon cheesecake. Breakfasts looked lovely and will be back again soon to try one! Quick service and very helpful.

When we entered it felt lovely and friendly, there was so much choice I wanted to try everything. Service was with a smile and very quick. the hazelnut latte was delicious and the food was spot on, lovely big portions I didn't finish my meal completely but left feeling full and happy. I don't really like pickled red cabbage but there's was lovely and really surprised me. The facilities were clean and my sister really complimented the place and I'm really glad she brought me to such a lovely place for breakfast wish I lived closer so I could try more meals

Cafe One 20 looks quite inconspicuous from the road, and it seems that people opt for the expensive, more quirkier rival, The Butterfly Cabinet. However, if you're focused on quality and service, Cafe One 20 is by far superior. I attend every fortnight for my classic Pancakes and a scone, and the staff are always incredibly friendly and food of excellent quality. My friends often get a Full English, and this is also excellent - all the classic ingredients and a large portion size. The milkshakes (go for luxury with ice cream!) are to die for. Food is served within 5 minutes, so its also perfect if you're in a hurry!

Some aspects of this cafe are excellent, thespace tslef is comfortable and pleasant, the staff are very nice, they serve Beckleberry's ice cream. I had home made parsnip soup and the panini is very good too. Really there were only two drawbacks, the coffee is made with boiled milk which isn't good enough these days, and the cakes although they look great are a little industrial, although still reasonable.Have soup, a panini and and an ice cream, pretty much perfect I would suggest

Just back from having lunch at this lovely little cafe and now enjoying some take away cake at home.1st visit here and it won't be our last. Stopped in with my sister for a spot of lunch and a catch up, the menu had so much to choose from it was hard to decide. I had the bacon, brie and cranberry panini which was delicious and my sister had the bacon & cream cheese bagel, both were bigger than expected and came with a side salad & coleslaw and both were delicious. The choice of teas & coffees are vast, we had a latte & a mocha and both were very nice. We then decided to order cake to go and again the choice was massive and again it was hard to decide. The staff could see we were struggling to decide so gave us some recommendations, I am currently eating the pecan & caramel slice and it is yummy. My sister ordered extra for our mum and as we had so much to carry the staff member also helped us to the car with them, it's little things like this that make such a difference.Yes we will be returning after all we have to work our way through the massive menu!!

Visited for lunch with my son who is at uni there, we ordered sandwiches and a cold drink each for our lunch...when mine arrived..a ham, Brie and red onion relish the bread cake was HUGE all very nicely presented with coleslaw and a small salad. I knew there was no way I could eat all of this sandwich and I asked the pleasant guy serving if it could be halved and I could take it away with me,,,not a problem, and the other half was brought back all wrapped up for me. My son had a toasted panini and we both enjoyed our lunch. Service was quick and the staff nice and friendly. When we visit our son again would certainly visit. My son has also had breakfast here...a 'full English' and said it was really tasty.

We've visited this cafe a few times, menu is great, lots of choice, tons of sweet treats. I particularly enjoy the salads, they're huge, great value for money and really delicious, the soups are always tasty too! Young staff are helpful and friendly, some of the staff could do with some training in customer service. Not much atmosphere and not crazy about the decor but worth a visit for the large menu and tasty grub.

This was, until today, a regular haunt for my friends and I. We have a 'Breakfast Club' usually first Sunday after payday we all meet up. Have breakfast together and do something fun afterwards. Well we will be looking for somewhere else.I have been here about 4 or 5 times and I will say that the food is bland and mediocre at best. It's not the cheapest either. Today has sealed it's fate with the worst customer service I have received in a very long time. We had two tables totaling 9 of us. We usually order their Canadian, Full English or Continental Breakfasts. Sadly apart from one of us who religiously orders a bacon sandwich. (Sadly there is no convincing this lad to expand his horizons) Today we ordered 5 different cheques. We understand Sunday is a busy day for them. The table of 4 got their food no problems. My table of 5 not so much. 4 breakfasts were delivered correctly (They even had amendments) but then the waiter turns up with a Canadian breakfast we simply had not ordered. We were challenged by the waiter who walked back to the kitchen and then back to the table again with the same food asking if we had made a mistake. No definitely not. So he returned to the kitchen. I have direct view of a very disgruntled manager making a b-line with the same food and the snatched cheque from another member of staff. We were then challenged by a clearly angered woman who informed us that WE had made the error and not themselves. Our party member would not have ordered a Canadian breakfast as she doesn't like eggs nor does she like Maple syrup. So basically. No. Not our error. She then informs us again that it was ordered incorrectly by us and that it would have to be re-made. My friend asked if there were a difference in price that he would need to make up and she just walked off mumbling. Well at this point we all discussed leaving. Our poor party member was left waiting for her food till most of us had finished and then felt obliged to wolf it down as to not cause delay to the rest of us.We saw friends having a similar issue there as we left informing the waiter they were waiting for food and it turned out they had delivered his meal to another diner and they had eaten it. Only to be then told he hadn't ordered a meal himself.Utter shambles. I think I'll take my business elsewhere.Other than that. It's a nice place. Clean. Great vibe and very swanky looking and very comfortable. Toilets are always spotless and the other staff are nice people. When you make a mistake you admit it. You don't challenge paying patrons. You don't down right call people liars!

Great cakes and coffee in a comfortable, contemporary surrounding. It's a great place to go when you want to read the paper with a decent coffee and a bit of peace and quiet.

I have been to this cafe many times for breakfast and every time it has served both me and my family exceptionally well. Along with the great service the food us always delicious. If I had one critisism (and it is very hard to find) the scrambled eggs are quite rubbery.

The cakes looked good and Bristot is my favourite brand of coffee. Service was really good. Breakfast was very large indeed but I did not enjoy a single item on it. Ingredients all quite cheap, left half of mine - not something I do often! Wish I had queued for 20 minutes in the wind and rain for a table at the Butterfly Cabinet. I was delighted they do breakfast all day but they should scrap the bank of microwaves and do smaller better quality breakfasts Back the Cabinet for us - if you want cheap and cheerful this is a nice venue with good service, would recommend trying the cakes thought they did look very good.

I have visited here a couple of times with friends when other places such as The Butterfly Cabinet or The Wild Trapeze have had a queue too big that I don't want to wait in. It is an adequate alternative for food on the weekend when one wishes to have a strong cup of coffee and is too lazy to cook. The portion sizes of food are good and I enjoy the coffee and tea here. I'm a fan of their paninis and ice cream as well. I've ordered the breakfast and Canadian breakfast before and what lets this place down is their scrambled eggs and their sausages. The scrambled eggs are diabolical, I'm a firm believer that scrambled eggs should be runny but they always seem to keep very dry here. Not sure if that's because their worried about undercooking it and it might be a personal thing, but that then doesn't excuse the lack of flavour. The sausages are also your standard catering sausages that you see on a cheap buffet. Otherwise I really liked the pancake and the bacon :) Must also mention that the ice cream here is delicious. I approve of their brand they chose and love an ice cream cone from here in the summer. Some of the staff are friendlier than others, but all acceptably polite and the service is quick. Worth a try, just avoid the scrambled eggs.

I have just started coming here since I moved, it's a great place to come to meet with friends or relax with a coffee and use my laptop. The staff are so attentive and incredibly polite, they are there promptly if you need anything but not too much as to be overbearing (which is a HUGE fail in 'service' terms). Prices are VERY reasonable, and I'd highly recommend the caffeine free Canadian strawberry/mint tea. Keep returning as it is such a nice place :)

I came her with a group of friends on a Saturday morning for full english breakfasts. The breakfast was very bland, bacon tasted funny. We leftist of the food. We also had milkshakes that looked promising but they too were not good and had no flavour to them at all. Will not be back, which is a shame as it is very close and the service was good.

Our absolute favourite cheeky treat. Whenever we are in the area I can’t help but grab a croissant or two on my way through. You can tell they are made with love! Best to get there early though if you want a wide range to choose from as they are very popular and the best ones sell out fast in the mornings from my experience. My favourite is the chocolate croissant and my partner’s is the pistachio one.
