Fantastic live group on , amazing atmosphere and welcoming staff. A place to come and chill with your family dog or a place to let your hair in this first class pub.

Brilliant night out at the Hussars in Heaton. The band was fantastic 'Dog in a box' and the atmosphere was buzzing.

Visited with my son for a Sunday lunch - a very friendly welcome, football on the tv and very efficient and friendly service. Most of all the Sunday lunches were excellent - I have the gamma (3 huge pieces, more than most places for sure), roast pots, veg, gravy and Yorkshire pud. My son have the brisket beef, equally large and all cooked well. He also had the sticky toffee pudding a major amount of custard! Thanks to all for a great Sunday lunch and for being such a friendly place to visit.

Great old school boozer with an alternative feel inside. Food was decent though not the best. Excellent selection of keg and cask beers as well as wines and spirits.

Just popped in for lunch after coffee on chillingham road. My wife got the beef brisket toastie and I got the Hot Honey pepperoni pizza. Food was really great, large selection of beers on tap and in the fridge and the man serving behind the bar was absolutely lovely. looking forward to coming back with our dog on Sunday to try out their Sunday lunch!

This has without a doubt become our favourite pub to drink in in Heaton. We’ve been coming here regularly most Fridays now for a while, and we have recently started coming to do the quiz on a Thursday, hosted very enthusiastically by Craig. Beth and her team work exceptionally hard to make you feel welcome whilst serving a wide range of ales, spirits and wines. The food has never failed to satisfy me and also my family, that have also become fond of the pub. Thanks to all of the wonderful staff!

One of the best pubs in this part of Newcastle, great selection of beers, brilliant food, friendly staff. If I could design a pub, it would be this one.

August 2024. A bit of stability and consistency for months now. Beer is generally spot on although six cask lines means that some get tired before they're finished. Some awful staff who seem to wear bar blinkers as they only serve the first person they see, but they're outweighed by the other, excellent staff. Food generally fine. Overall, improved on what it's been over the last few years.

Had Camden lager and it was A1. Service was very friendly and quick.

Great pub, good food and selection of drinks. Went for the Thursday pub quiz which was fun, though it was sometimes hard to hear the quiz master.

We love coming here. Food is always amazing! Staff are great and the chips are the best chips I’ve ever had! Would definitely recommend!

Highly recommend. We've been numerous times for lunch and never dissappinted. Foods really good and the staff are very attentive and pleasant. I've been a few times in the evening for quiz night which is great fun.

Was a pretty good night but someone I saw there who I heard being called "Will Hall" stole my wallet I'm pretty sure, lovely food but that soured the experience

Food is really great and such high quality, but it does take a very long time for any of the food to come out. Bear this in mind if you're I'm any kind of hurry.

Absolutely terrible in every way very unorganised booked for 8 people never had table ready then gave me a table for 4 eventually got a table for 6 as 2 of our party were ill. Went to order food i am gluten free so ordered gluten free bun for burger no buns so said what could I have to be told nothing at all gluten free nothing omg we had already got drinks so we decided just to stay i went to shop and had to buy food to eat with my family will never returned absolutely foaming

Great pub, great food and nice clientele. The only thing that let's it down is the miserable bar staff. Fair play they're probably on minimum wage, but why so salty? Honestly man, crack a smile.

This is the second time I have been to the bar. My reason for writing review which I do rarely is because a few things stuck out for me. 1. The service from staff was exceptional: friendly and polite. 2. (Actually 1 really). The music playlist was exceptional by Beth. (29/5/24 c18:00-19:00). I don’t think I’ve ever heard such an amazing playlist in a bar. It was varied yet classic and relaxing- awesome choices. Even the songs I didn’t like fit. 3) the atmosphere in the pub is - well, like a pub. A proper pub before corporation took over. This visit was on a night in a difficult time for us and was uplifting. My previous visit was with a friend I hadn’t seen in a couple years. We had a great night where we could chat easily and was a fab atmosphere. Well done and please don’t change.

This is my local .The owner should consider himself lucky that he has such tremendous staff who always greet you with a warm smile,nothing is a problem to them to meet your needs they are all young & very efficient. Downside is that they seem reluctant to put the heating on when questioned why this is .Because it gets too warm thro the day for the evening session ha. So why can't they put the heating on thro the day tobwarm the place up then turn it off for the evening session .You just need too look round at how many people are sitting with there coats on .

I ca only comment on the food I had, it was a Burns night supper of Haggis, needs and tattie. Well presented and tasty enough, but not very much and not very hot. I've heard the food is generally very good but I have to go with what I experienced. There was a quiz on which was very popular and the bar was busy. Atmosphere was great and the beer selection is extensive.

Most of the staff are lovely, very odd that during the quiz the quizmaster always cuts off music by young women saying ‘that’s enough of that’ or flat out not even saying a female artist’s name saying ‘Camilla whatever’ (only the artist that actually sings the majority of the song) to credit them in an answer for the music round, what audience are you pandering to being sexist in an area that’s predominantly students and younger people? Heard another team mention this last week. What kind of message are you sending to a good half of your customers? Also disappointing that you’re now made to book for the quiz over an hour and a half before it starts.

Pub was nice but me and my wife noticed one staff member (woman with ginger hair) thought it was appropriate to drink alcohol and keep going onto the bar to do stuff!! I dont want to be served by someone under the influence.. dont think we be back…

Everythings great.. except the food. What a shame. The amount of people that have warned me about it, I've just had my 2nd meal here and honestly it's absolutely beyond average. Whoever wrote the menu was obviously not the chef. Stick to the bar.

Friendly neighbourhood pub, nice beers including some of their own brews, at fair prices. Old style interior but I like that. Lots of students, young people and alternative types. Dog friendly. They also serve food.

Christmas themed pizzas, burgers, etc., to eat. Last food orders were 2045hrs. Great friendly atmosphere. Dogs welcome. Plenty of parking.

Sunday Lunch was one of the worst we've had in a long time. The Yorkshire pudding was literally like a pancake! I wish I'd took a picture to prove how flat and bad it was! The beef was chewy and fatty and the gravy was like water. It was like a child's portion size and certainly not worth £12.95. The food used to be really good at the Hussar's so I don't know what's happened but we will not be returning and would not recommend.

Me and my partner stopped in for food last night and we had the festive turkey burger which was lovely. Everything was freshly made, the roast potatoes and gravy were beautifully cooked. Staff were welcoming and food came quickly we will definitely be back again.

Haven't been in for Year's, but it was great, lovely & warm as it was freezing outside, fantastic Pint of Guinness & Blackcurrant..

Just been for Sunday lunch here with my family. We didn't book, but there were plenty of tables. We ordered from the special 2 course menu. Starters were decent, especially the chicken tenders which were really good quality, but the hummus was flavourless and really disappointing. We then had a very long wait for our mains. Not sure how long we waited, but we must have been there for about 90 minutes before the main came out, but they apologised when they brought out the food. We hadn't complained at all, but had definitely noticed the lengthy wait. The dinners were nice, but not nice enough to bring us back. My husband thought that the portion size could have been much better, but I was definitely satisfied. Once finished, we ordered a dessert for our son. I think it was £5.95 for a brownie and ice cream. It was about a quarter of a scoop of ice cream and a very small brownie. As we left, we I noticed another table getting the same dessert. They had a few berries on their plate, which made it look a little more substantial than ours, although still poor. Just seemed like a rip off to me. And because we were in a bit of a rush to leave at the point of ordering dessert, we specifically asked how long it would take to get the dessert and she asked the chef who advised 5-10 minutes. 25 minutes later it arrived. So it's a very mixed review from me. Some positives, but a lot of work to do. We also ordered 2 teas and got a single pot with only 1 tea bag. Pretty expensive teabag, if you ask me. The cups were fairly large, but I filled the first cup and then the second cup was left half empty for myself. Paying for 2 teas and getting one teabag isn't good enough. I wouldn't recommend this place. Seems a bit unorganised and we weren't impressed with the girl behind the counter who served us. We weren't sure if she was being rude, or just miserable. Service needs a lot of work all round.

The Hussar is a fine pub for a drink but not much else. The staff were great, friendly and quick, but the food was not good at all. Ordered a cheeseburger and it was criminally under seasoned, as was the poutine (which was actually cheesy chips and gravy), it was followed out the kitchen by the chef in their whites which is pet peeve of mine. The atmosphere was quiet which is fine for 1:30 on a Saturday but was ruined by thumping dance music that was being drowned out by a premier league game. A couple of small changes and it could be a great pub, as it is it's just adequate.

Lovely Sunday lunches here, we love the food, atmosphere, and service, the manageress is great and Beth is always friendly and super efficient, highly recommend!

I used to live on the same street as this pub and it was my local. Always had a lovely atmosphere and lush food. Not any more… I went with a friend for a nice pub lunch and the food was overpriced and average as anything. We both had burgers which tasted like the beef had never even been in the same room as salt or pepper. We also shared a poutine which was again bland and unseasoned. Also, they had a premier league match on which from the look of the picture quality may well have been an illegal stream. Lastly, it’s music OR match commentary, not both!

Been a couple of times as we love dogs and always get a warm welcome from them; not so much the staff. Wine very expensive and served in a glass beaker: apparently the pub only has 10 wine glasses and although we saw others with appropriate vessels, and some on the bar waiting to be washed, we weren't allowed to have any. Toilets unpleasant. Given the cost of very average wine and attitude of staff, will not return. A shame, this could be a cracking place if service matched the warmth of the canine clientele.

Often, use the Hussars staff are ok some more friendly than others Don't think we will be going back in a hurry It's like a dog walkers paradise they walk around with there long leads the dog taking them for a walk it's a pub for god sake sit down get a beer The barmaid nearly fell over the extension, lead with food in her hand Time before a couple throwing a ball for their dog And staff don't say a word it's unbelievable To top it all, they got a sign saying civil servants get 20% off Why are they special ?? Nope, sorry, that's enough The business should be for everyone, not a select few

Went in for a few light ales and a bite to eat but sadly this place is lacking in atmosphere and the food was poor from when I lasted visited a year ago. Waited over 20 mins for food and wasn't even that busy and when it did come it was plain and bland. Beer was OK but won't be going back.

My partner had the burger which he said was lovely. I had beef dinner , loved everything except the garlic. And thyme mash. The thyme overpowered any taste on the plate. Lovely looking bar nice comfortable atmosphere. Hasn't put me off returning

Very good pub just off Chillingham Road. Good selection of ales, lagers, and ciders. Looking at the menu, there are a few dishes I haven't seen anywhere else, so it's worth a visit for a few reasons. Staff are very friendly and helpful and, lots of space inside. Very very popular Thursday nights for the quiz.

I'd give it a miss. There's much nicer places to drink and eat in Heaton. The landlord seems to resent everybody and they go through staff at a phenomenal rate, which is always a worrying sign. It's also expensive and it's not child friendly (despite what they think). Toilets stink and I'd urge you not to let your children touch ANYTHING if they go in. If you go, you'll likely think it's ok at first. Then you'll start to pick up on the atmosphere being off after a few minutes. It's like they've just given up. Loads of parking though. That's a plus (if you like car parks).

Top notch! Will be back soon. I think the word I used to describe the food was "phenomenal". Fresh, delicious and perfectly cooked, well presented and in a timely manner, what more could you ask for!

Nice beer good food, pints are a bit pricey but in line with this bit of Heaton. Great atmosphere and pub quiz!

No idea what changed here but the food has gone massively downhill. Pizza used to be class, now it's like a cheap supermarket one.

As someone who very rarely leaves any form of reviews. It’s about time I gave credit to the kitchen. Fantastic pizza’s, but get the flat bread and kebabs, they are fantastic. The bread is stunning.

It's okay. Service good. Beer garden is nice enough. Drink selection has changed and was surprisingly quiet for a weekend. Can't comment on the food as just had drinks but doesn't seem to be what it once was which is a shame as used to love this place!

Great atmosphere, lovely staff behind the bar. Had a great pint of guiness and even better pizza absolutely belta. Generous portion and don't forget to add a garlic sauce. Authentic delicious pizza and sauce and the chef was polite and courteous, offered me extra garlic and talked me through his recipe when he finished his shift. Seriously don't miss out and try Nas' food you will not be disappointed. 5 stars.

Great beer garden which gets the late sun. Quirky attractive interior. We are veggie so on Sunday evening could only get the poutine. This was quite nice but with veggie pork it was quite expensive for the size of it. Much more choice for veggies at other times, though.

After writing a great review in Jan, we return to find this place has gone down hill fast. The food has gone back to the usual stuff with no pride, it wasn't great at all and I'm trying to be nice. It was looking great back in Jan, but I do hear the last owners have gone and so has everything else. Service, wasn't friendly and they don't have a clue about the drinks when asked. wouldn't recommend food.

Cant believe they got rid of moreti and inches cider 😆 And the empanadas we used to go much more than we do now staff changed every time we go

My meal consisted of chicken that I wouldn’t feed to the dogs. Mostly skin and a couple of bits of bone. Distugusting.

Visited for food and drinks on the bank holiday weekend. One of the staff were dressed up as a Kings Guard which really lifted the atmosphere. Food was delicious and came out quickly despite it being busy. The service was perfect and food just as good. Would definitely recommend

This bar was very friendly all the staff had a smile on their faces, they were also very polite at serving. My time at the Northumberland Hussar I felt comfortable and had affordable drinks.

This pub is amazing. Lovely staff always very happy to make excellent recommendations. Pints from here are so crisp and fresh, they must take good care of their lines.

Terrible pub now it has been taken over. The food used to be a solid 10/10 for pub grub and now it is mediocre at best. Their pizzas and burgers used to be to lovely and now you can tell not as much passion or quality ingredients go into their food. Used to go at least every month and now I avoid it and go elsewhere

This was the third post funeral do we have had there in the last 3 years. Food was spot on excellent sandwiches a delicious mushroom curry Cakes were great and lots of salad and nan breads. Best one so far...and the food kept on coming. Well done excellent

Terrible Sunday lunch. Soggy Yorkshire pudding. Burnt beef. Cabbage stalks and undercooked sugar snap peas. Watery gravy covering whole meal. Sticky table. Beef tough and stringy. Rude service from one member of staff who did reduce the bill but threw the bill on the table. Did not apologise and was rude and offhand when we paid. Had to send meal back once because it was cold. Almost inedible except for roast potatoes which were good. Have been before it was taken over and it was nice but won’t be back for food. Shame

Took the family for food as this used to be a decent shout for scran. My son went for a pizza and to be fair he said it was good. The wife went so Persian chicken & rice while I went for the Persian kebab with flatbread. Both dishes came with salad. My "kebabs" were just dense lumps of beef mince. Absolutely no spice or flavour. I honestly had to cover it in pepper just to raise the flavour level from zero. The wife's chicken looked disappointed, it was a scrawny chicken leg covered in burnt skin. We both left the majority of our meals and said we'd never come back. We were the only customers in there so I'm struggling to find an excuse for the poor food. Normally, when eating out we get asked how the meal is/was. It didn't happen here, probably too embarrassed to ask. Not sure what has changed but the drop in quality since our last visit was massive. The "good" pizza does nothing to convince me to return. AVOID!

We visited as a family for Sunday lunch and had the roast beef and roast chicken. The food was excellent, perfect portion size and delicious. Desserts were very good too! It’s a lovely friendly pub and the service is excellent too- I highly recommend

We went for Sunday lunch, the veg is gorgeous, my husband loved the beef and the gravy was to die for ( it’s so refreshing to have tasty gravy). Service was spot on for us - and our dog. Will be returning soon.
