Staff standing around talking, especially when so busy. Yes, people due to lack of space leaning on bar, but staff should be attentive to who is waiting to be served and those that are there already. Also, staff should look around the corner towards the piano, people were waiting there too.... 😁

Situated on Pink Lane, this pub can easily be passed. Selling local beer and a good selection of drinks. Very friendly staff. We visited at lunchtime so no performance happening. Enjoyed a light lunch as a break from the shopping. Good food; very tasty and well presented. Reasonable prices alongside quality mean the Jazz Cafe gets full marks. Very clean and tidy with a contemporary feel to the deco. Fits in well with the theme they're trying to portray.

I came back here after a long time of not calling in and was not disappointed. It is ideal for anyone wanting food or drink whilst waiting for a train as it is only three minutes walk up Pink Lane from Central station. It has a very pleasant atmosphere and serves a good range of casual food. I was here for a drink on this occasion but have eaten here in the past and the food was good. Service on this trip was very friendly and i felt welcome in the place. I would definitely come back here.

I visited here with my husband hoping for some food tonight. I was rudely told food finishes at 6pm. Online it states cafe service 11am till 7pm. We were there at 6.30pm, A bit pointless when you are open late to finish food at 6 and put another time on your website? But that's fine no problem We mentioned we were visiting from Edinburgh and this was our first time in the cafe......no response at all. I said we would eat elsewhere and maybe return for drinks and music later.....again no response. Scruffy looking staff that looked very annoyed we had interrupted their cigarette break outside. Felt very unwelcome no way would we order a drink in there. Had a lovely meal in Taste of Persia instead and ended up in Central a drag bar I believe. What a lovely welcome in there compared to the Jazz Cafe. Danced all night....fab.

So apparently if you are not vegan, in a couple, Greek or happy you are not welcome here. Came in with four of my friends after drinking in the next door Forth Bar and were told that the bar was closing in half an hour. OK, we will have one drink and leave. Obviously a massive inconvenience. Slam slam slam. Can we have a shot? No. All talking in Greek about how pissed off they are (my friend is Greek so it's quite hilarious but scary for whoever might own this bar). Now the 'chef' comes out the kitchen to remind us it's last orders in one hour... OK. Can we finish the pints we've paid a fiver for? It's weird as I've walked past that joint for years and always wondered why it was empty. First time I've ever gone in. It all becomes clear. Wow. What a laugh.

Niche venue which has a jazz cafe on the first floor. Small is size and very intimate but really nice. Not personally my cup of tea but can certainly see why people enjoy it. The drink isn't the cheapest but isn't the most expensive. If you like jazz, pop you're head in and find out when the next performance/show is. Quite unique to Newcastle actually.

Used to go to the Jazz Cafe when the old owner ran it. It had charm and allowed for intimate concerts, but it was in dire need of an update in order to survive. It's been in new hands a long time but never had chance to visit. Went today and loved it. Had a Brie and bacon sandwich which was excellent, friend has scone with coffee. There's a good range of food at a reasonable price. Food is excellent, brilliant art-deco furnishings, its brighter, more modern then it used to be. Comfy and cosy, when we went (Thursday lunchtime) there wasn't anybody else there but I'd fully recommend it. It's still very much suited as a music venue, the piano is still there, and it very much keeps the atmosphere of the 'old' jazz cafe.

Really poor service. I booked tickets for my fiancé and I to see a band there for his birthday. We went in and where struck by the off-hand service at the bar. After watching half of the set, which was great, we came back downstairs for a drink and I ordered a gin and tonic. It was served without lemon and after a minute, my partner asked the bar staff to add lemon "to make it more fruity". We started to go back upstairs for the second part of the gig and as we left, the bar tender said to her colleague: 'there's only one word for him'. We heard and went back to ask what she meant and she denied having said anything. She then said she meant the two words were 'thank you' and proceeded to be sarcastic and rude to us. She changed our words and accused us of asking for lemon 'to make the drink less sh*t'. We were made to feel totally unwelcome despite having done nothing wrong, and we left without seeing the second part of the gig. Needless to say, the awful service completely spoiled our evening, not to mention the money we wasted on tickets and drinks. We were offended and deeply upset by the rude service we received and in no way deserved; I would not recommend going here!

Genuinely, I am truly heart broken. This place used to be my favourite bar in the world, I'd come here a few nights a week for almost two years, and loved Keith who used to own it, and has sadly passed away. His place was a safe haven for jazz and blues lovers, eccentricly decorated and piled up with decades of newspapers and rare records. There was great live music from talented musicians and poetry readings upstairs, it was perfect. Now it's been refurbished and the life and soul of the place has been destroyed. No character, just another modern, run of the mill cafe with lack lustre produce. A true shame.

Was there on a Thursday night recently. Great music, fab atmosphere. Really good choice of drinks (e.g. lots of different gins, which I love)However, I ordered two dry martinis (recipe: vermouth over ice, poured away so only a hint is left, then add double measure gin; shake/stir, pour, add lemon twist or olive, etc), and it became clear too late that the lady serving didn't know how to make one. I only spotted this when it was too late for the first martini: she put a double gin into the shaker then added a full measure of vermouth (the 'Martini' branded one) to the gin. When she began the second, I politely reaffirmed that I wanted dry martinis, to which she pointed to the vermouth bottle and said "This is the dry Martini". Realising that she didn't know that a dry martini had nothing to do with the brand of vermouth or what they called it ('Dry'), I said that the vermouth was put in first then poured away, then the gin was added. I hope I wasn't rude about this, because she was quite disgruntled and said "Well this is how we make them here". To be fair to her she did try and remedy the second one, and did offer to make the first one again. I didn't want to embarrass her by pressing it, and knew my friend wouldn't actually mind too much, so said no thanks. What compounded it was that she neither added nor mentioned lemon peel or olive, so I asked if I could have a bit of lemon in each. She didn't quite understand, as she just dropped a lemon wedge into each one.I'm aware that to some readers this may sound like a small thing. However, it's not a cheap drink(!), and besides, I had this strange feeling that surely the one place you'd reckon to guarantee getting a dry martini would be a jazz club...? :) Still had a good night, recommend it.
