Was so happy to be able to go to out favourite sandwich place, so pleased it's back open and even though we are all under restrictions it was lovely to go inside and nothing was to much for the ladies , Marie was our server and she was so friendly and happy that it put us to ease as soon as we walked in ... can't wait to get back to have our favourite sandwich

I considered whether or not to write this review, and concluded thst the service was so bad it was worth sharing.Where to begin? I had to clear the table from the previous customers as the staff didn't have any interest in doing it. I was at Mark Toney with my partner and her parents. Ordering was a chore. It took several attempts to get our order taken. The food came in stages. Two of us were given our drinks and the others weren't. Had to go back to the counter twice to enquire and chase. When a milkshake was brought over it was with a definite attitude... probably because we had asked why we hadn't been given it.I only ordered a sundae as I'd just had an endoscopy at the hospital. We chased several times as we waited for it. It finally arrived after 45 minutes - no exaggeration - after everyone else had finished their food and drinks. The breakfast and cheeseburger we ordered were good. The panini was OK. The sundae, when it arrived, was nice but not worth the price. The ordering system does jot help the staff and when asking if a milkshake was coming being told "I haven't been trained to do that" doesn't help either. After the terrible service it would take a lot for us to return.

It looks somewhat dated, but perhaps that's part of its charm. Good home cooked food and friendly service. Haven't tried the ice creams but they look good. It's obviously popular with older customers who seem to be regulars. One criticism - a lick of paint in the gent's toilets wouldn't go amiss.

Visited last week with my partner, well what can I say that's not completely shocking about the place. The women who work there are so lovely and hardworking and always up for a giggle! Shame the same can't be said for the manageress (lady in black) which I've also noticed a few other people on here agreeing with me when I say she hasn't got a managerial bone in her body. Letting her staff run ragged, plates stacked up on tables, queue out the door and she's sat chatting with her friends! Then after socialising she proceeded to walk around behind the till eating, while leaving one girl to serve everyone by herself. 5* to the staff who were actually working hard to accommodate everyone. Disgraceful service by a supposed 'manager'. A team can only be as good as their leader. Take my advice and split her wage between the staff who do something! Used to love coming here but it seriously needs a change of face for that woman!

I came here twice over the course of the day with mam. On both occasions we had tea but in the morning we had a bacon roll each and the second time my mam had apple pie with cream and I had possibly the world's crumbliest sausage rolls - it was nice but it was the sausage roll equivalent of a Cadbury's Flake! It is a very spacious diner, with some comfortable seats, disabled entry to the place, ketchup sachets that are easy to open, customer toilets at the back and everything else you need, e.g. cutlery, napkins, etc next to the till. The only niggles I had - the toilets had a step up which is tricky for wheelchair users, the hand dryer in the gents toilet didn't work and according to my mam the toilet roll in the ladies is too far back from the toilet seat. But on the whole it was a good experience, the staff were friendly and efficient, very handy for the bus station and we will be back.

Had some food here today and the manager who was dressed in black was very rude and very dismissive with me and not polite. Asked about student discount and just ignored me the first time. So I asked about it again and she said yes it has been taken off. When I checked afterwards. It looked like she didn't take it off. It was only 10% I think but that's not the point. The food was ok, nothing special. It wasn't cheap. No atmosphere. I have also been to the other one on Grainger street and that has always been disappointing too. Customer service is always poor. Higher up management if you see this, please sack the rude manager in your Haymarket cafe. Or retrain her on her poor customer service skills.

I visited on a Saturday for lunch recently and had a terrible experience. The utter disorganisation of the staff was apparent almost immediately. One in particular, who actually appeared to be in charge, was completely incompetent, ignorant, and rude. When taking our order she was quite unpleasant, not at all welcoming. I ordered a breakfast, and my brother a panini. A few minutes after sitting down, a different waitress brought what she thought was my brother's order and set it down in front of him. It was a slightly different panini than he had ordered but we decided not to make a fuss. He was politely waiting for my food to be served before starting when the first waitress abruptly snatched the plate away from him, rudely snapping "that's not yours!". So instead of apologising for her mistake, we were treated as if we were naughty school children. An interesting way to treat customers I thought. Following this we witnessed her snap impatiently at an elderly woman for no apparent reason, and the chaos of forgotten orders continued as her and the other waitress shouted at each other across the room. The food was very average and the coffee cold and generally unpleasant. The website says "we guarantee service with a smile", but sadly that was far from what we experienced.

I visited this coffee shop on Percy Street on 18 July 2017. I had been to the RVI for an appointment. My sister and i always go to the Grainger Street branch when we are in Newcastle. Basically we asked for cheese toasties, and we don't now what it was inside them, but it was like no cheese we had ever had. it had the texture of scrambled eggs, maybe the colour of red cheese, and no taste.I seen a girl going in and out of the kitchen and i called her over and asked her about it. She said ask her and she nodded over to the counter to another person. She said "she ordered it". Our cake seemed as if it had seen better days once we had cut into it. But our coffee was lovely. We wont go into that branch again, but we will try Grainger Street next time were in Newcastle. (were from Cumbria).

Had a tea and a coffee. Scone and hot apple pie with ice cream. Coffee OK. Tea weak and tasteless. Scone had hardly any fruit and was the type that sticks to the roof of your mouth. Hot apple pie was cold very cold with barely cooked apple and tasteless pastry. For a city centre it was very poor quality.

Staff didn't seem interested in serving us. Three of them stood at the till and completely ignored me until another lady came along and served me. Had ice creams, really disappointing. For somewhere known for ice creams, they were really not nice.

After my regular hairdressing appointment in Newcastle I always head for Mark Toney's in Percy Street. I find the staff there are very pleasant and helpful. I use a walking stick and there is always one of them who offers to carry my tray to a table for me. They have a great variety of sandwiches etc. to choose from, but I usually opt for one of their paninis with salad and coleslaw. A cup of cafe latte and a delicious apple or fruit slice with ice cream to follow and I am ready for a bit of shopping in M&S; before getting the bus back to Ryton.

Visited here whilst Christmas shopping and had a bacon roll and some homemade fruit pie with ice cream - it was great! A welcome break from shopping.

Visiting my mother in Newcastle and was looking to find somewhere local, so as to not lose time with my mother before travelling back down south. Got recommended Willis cafe and what an amazing cafe!
